Those scooters are teal right? To this day I still get jolts of joy whenever purple or teal show up in a set, even though they aren't near as rare as they used to be!

Fewer cars in LEGO cities? Woo hoo!

Now let's do the real world....

By in Netherlands,

It's a pretty cool mini pack, more medium legs are good to see.

It's interesting to note how those type of electric scooters are actually Illegal in some European countries currently, like Netherlands as a whole, and UK unless rented from specific trial companies/areas.

But that doesn't make this a bad set, LEGO is a fantasy world/City anyway in my view.

But then again this could easily serve as Electric Bicycle charging station or as manual step scooters as well.

By in United Kingdom,

We’ve had a massive surge in purchases of electric scooters in the uk.

We’ve also had a massive surge in police confiscation of electric scooters.

Anyone see the connection?

Hulk like pretty color.

Now you too can re-create some of the most obnoxious people in LEGO city! Can’t wait to leave all these scooters lying around all over the place!

I’m joking of course. For a small little set, it looks nice! And glad to see they aren’t giving up on Teal.

As much as I love teal (both the color in general and the LEGO color), I'm actually getting a little sick of seeing it basically everywhere, to what I feel has been the detriment of some sets. R.R. Slugger notes that it took only two years after its reintroduction to overshadow dark purple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ITuz4lQT9Y&t=2m47s which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but it's a bummer to see the purples and lavenders continue to be relegated to Friends, DOTS, Disney Princess and such (not saying they haven't appeared anywhere else, but they're still pretty uncommon). I especially welcome the purple helmet and medium legs for this reason. They couldn't even be bothered to recolor the body of at least one of the scooters so that it doesn't just blend in with the electric charging equipment.

Way too expensive.
Where is the other 1/2 of the budget?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Can't wait for my minifigures to chuck these from the roof of their 3-stories buildings in anger.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Ever since turquoise returned to the Lego palette they are using that color in almost every single set, I see...

AND I LOVE THIS. It is one of my favorite colors. should never have been retired between 2008 and 2017.

Yup. Another excuse for police sets. Chase the bad guy on the electric scooter.
I like the concept but not mad about the execution. Would have preferred studs on the footboard. And wheels with tyres.

Not really no, that's correlation, not causation. We have a really combative culture in the UK - with drivers, cyclists and pedestrians all competing for the space available and seeing each other as the enemy. It's mostly due to insufficient investment in infrastructure, neglect of the regions, privatisation of much-needed public transport networks and poor planning, but it was ever thus.

I love the aspirational quality of this set - inspire the children and they might just succeed where our generation have failed!"

Electric Bicycles- Old People Thing= Good, dignified, environmentally friendly, to be encouraged;
Electric Scooters- Young People Thing= Bad, anarchic, dangerous on the road, to be discouraged.

Unless the batteries and Solar Panels are strong then I would suggest adding a second set of Solar Panels but other than that, this is an amazing concept and a good thing to have in any City.

Yes please! My LEGO city has about 10× as many bikes as cars, which is still too many cars, but a better ratio than in most American cities in particular.

I don't see a way for the scooters connecting to the chargers.

By in Canada,

Surprised it took this long for the scooter piece to show up in the City theme! After all, like most LEGO Friends accessories, it's designed to be just as compatible with traditional minifigures as it is with mini-dolls.
Here's hoping we see it used in even more sets in the future, and of course in more colors! It'd also be neat if LEGO made a new wheel piece for it with an integrated tire, since the wheel wells here are too small for any existing LEGO tires.
The build here is much larger than I'm used to seeing in many of these 4**** minifigure blister packs, which in most cases tend to have multiple smaller side builds instead of a singular structure like this.
Of course, as with other blister packs of this sort, the price per piece is pretty steep compared to boxed sets with a similar minifig count, such as the old City starter sets. But the price here may be easier for some buyers to swallow since these aren't the sort of "army builder" figures that those buyers would prefer being able to obtain in large quantities.

Pretty cool, though would be cooler were the scooters cast in a new color.

I love that a mechanic is included to make sure the scooters are always well-maintained. As ever, the LEGO version of things is so much more Utopian than the real version!

Kinda wanna get this and mod it so it has a diesel generator to power the charging station instead of a wimpy solar panel

I like the set, and its seems about right for the price point with 3 figures and the two scooters, especially with the printed parts and the short bendable legs (in purple no less).. I like the energy logo on the 1x1 round tiles too.

There’s a certain irony in a set about environmentally-friendly transportation being sold in Lego’s least environmentally-friendly packaging: plastic blister packs.

I don't even see why they'd be illegal, the ban on nunchaku despite being mostly nonlethal sounds reasonable in comparison. Not sure if they're electric but I saw Sonic 2 yesterday and the dumb cop had a scooter in one scene, I also saw a man riding one IRL (not sure if this was outside of the theater or not). In any case, scooters are getting bigger in America again, tbh I'm not sure why they'd need electricity unless they're way quicker than the usual ones. Electric cars are awesome, though, we owned one from 2013 to 2015 but we traded it in for another gas one, I assume electric stations weren't as widespread or something.

Well, in comparison 3 collectible minifigs are $15, but I guess that’s kind of crazy too.

Question for anyone who owns one of these scooters already from a Friends set - is there room in the wheel wells to add tires? The wheels look ridiculous without them.

Gravatar

Yeah! I wonder if Lego will create a KFC set so that these Lego scooters can be dumped nearby…

That's a fair question, I guess. R1_Drift linked to a video above that explains quite a lot of it very nicely.

Basically, they take up far too much room, too many people drive dangerously (too fast, too entitled, and too distracted), and too many people treat others with impatience.

I think it mainly has to do with Netherlands being densely populated, and rules for certain vehicles on roads , and bicycle paths.
Motorized scooters already were banned from bicycle paths in Amsterdam.

That said, in 2022 , some specific types of those scooter are becoming legal with certain rules when they get certified.

Oh! You know me from Reddit? Thanks a lot!

Yup, I'm aware they had to make a decision regarding an Exo Force set in 2008. Still with they had found a way to keep both colors back then. Anyways, thankfully Turquoise is back now and Dark Purple still is available as well, good ending.

Nope. The mould dates back to 2012. It first appeared in dark blue, the same colour as this set’s, in 2016. I have a red version with the CS logo on it in my display collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I need at least a dozen of these so I can litter the town sidewalks with discarded scooters just like real life cities are littered with rental scooters.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Haha!

These things are all over Charlotte, NC. They’re ridiculous and can barely get anyone anywhere. They have to bribe people to go collect them and charge them.

I’ll have to buy this just for how silly it is.

@TeriXeri:
Scooter rental company Lime got kicked out of a few cities, including hometown San Francisco, for just depositing their dockless scooters all over large cities without even discussing it with municipal authorities. The cities didn’t like that they were operating without a business license, and Lime’s contention was that there weren’t laws against their business model (which had not previously existed). Residents hated having to step over abandoned scooters so much that they were throwing them in rivers. In the end, San Francisco legislated the matter, and picked two companies to license for operation, which did not include Lime.

One of the crucial matters was the dockless design. Without docks, riders can just leave them anywhere, and it often involves laying them down where pedestrians walk. With docks, they can keep charging you until you insert them into an appropriate docking station. For riders, dockless can be a pain when you have to track one down, but being able to just stop anywhere is convenient. Docked means you can learn the locations of docks near regular haunts, like work, school, or home, but you also have to find an open dock to terminate the ride, while the city won’t have to worry about piles of scooters on sidewalks.

So, there are cities in the US that have banned them, others that have legislated their operation, a few where scooter companies have shut down operations by choice…and most of the US just isn’t urban enough to support this business model.

@Mechalex:
Buy illegal stuff, get contraband confiscated by the police. Seems like causation to me, but even correlation is still a connection.

@Duq:
Scooters were designed for Friends, and the pinch-wall is fairly standard for Friends vehicles. I’m assuming the scooter body was designed for tireless wheels because the whole thing sits lower, plus the scooter can balance on the bare wheels.

@TheOtherMike:
Wow, needs a wind turbine _and_ a solar panel? Also, where are the dead birds?

I saw a blue one listed on Bricklink at one point. My pockets weren’t nearly deep enough to spring for that one. Anyways, as long as medium-azure keeps popping up (second most common color after red, but last seen in 2020), I wouldn’t hold my breath. But that reminds me that I need to grab bright-green and magenta. I like to turn them into food carts, to keep the Flash fed.

I live in the western U.S. Our cities are 'littered' with scooters. Yet, that is not really a problem in my mind. Rather, it is the reckless manner in which they are used. We also have lots of dogs and pedestrians and legal marijuana. It can be a combustible mix. Fast scooters, inebriation, dogs on leashes, little legal certainty whether they can be on sidewalks, bike lanes, or roads... it has resulted in many injuries and deaths. Even famous college athletes have been sdelined. I think they're a decent solution to transportation, but I'll never get on one!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Scooters are stupid in NYC.
Not the kids riding in the neighborhood, but the adults riding them on the sidewalk or the streets, or bike lanes.
They've crashed into folks, people aren't thinking about them to look out for them walking or driving.
It's f-ing stupid.

I dunno, you probably have much more experience than I, but I've had young teens come literally within an inch or two on their electric scooters moving real fast, but I've never encountered that with electric bike users who seem to use them for transport and not fun. I stand to be schooled however...

Also I'm grumpy and don't like kids on my lawn, so maybe there is a bit of bias...
