I am Groot revealed!
Posted by Huw,
It's going to be a busy news day today because several retailers have revealed most of the June releases, one month ahead of their launch.
The first one I will bring to your attention is 76217 I am Groot which has just been listed at LEGO.com.
The 476-piece model of the likeable character from Guardians of the Galaxy comes with a cassette and nameplate, stands 26cm tall and will cost £44.99 / $54.99 / €49.99.

Man those eyes just stare into your soul….
I like the plaque and the cassette but no minifig is a bad move. The mouth projecting a permanent smile with dead eyes is very creepy
Oh my, that is cute! My wife only owns Wall-E in LEGO form, but this might be a perfect companion! Even though she doesn't know any Marvel lore... Or made it perfectly clear that she doesn't share my enthousiasm for LEGO... Alright, ALRIGHT... I'm buying it for myself!
Excellent piece choice for the mouth! The use of ball joints is also great for posability, I wish Lego could to the same with AT-STs…
I'm drowning trying to cover all these reveals at once, but new sets are so exciting!
The body and head shape on this build are perfect but the eyes and mouth make Groot look so creepy. I know people like to poke fun at the "dead eyes" on sculpture builds like this, but I think this is the worst they've ever been.
Also, how is there no Baby Groot micro-/nanofig included?? Huge missed opportunity there since that piece hasn't been available since 2017. The plaque and cassette tape are pretty awesome, though.
Looks good but would’ve preferred him in a plant pot as a display piece rather than legs
From Lego site: "Pre-order this item today, it will ship from August 1, 2022". Wow a 3 month pre-order period! Has that happened before? Don't think I recall that in 10 years of heavy Lego purchasing

I think the Razor Crest was available for pre-order 6 or 7 months before release.
I have a big Groot moc so this will look cute next to him, will buy of course x
No moaning about stickers until the 8th post. Poor effort.
I have the feeling they tried to avoid the 'dead eyes' effect by adding the lighter piece behind, making the black discs appear like giant 'kittenesque' pupils. Didn't work all that well, as I can gather from the comments here.
Loving that info plaque and the cassette build.
Isn't this like 5 years too late. Looks okay at least

I am Groot.
This looks so cursed.
At first I thought the mouth was one pre-formed piece, but it's just excellent use of the Cars bonnet and a wheel arch.
But still, that mouth reminds me of that square coin bank that creepily eats your coins and maybe your fingers. Or your soul.
Here's hoping it doesn't look nearly as uncanny if it's not a render...
Looking at stills of Baby Groot, I think the eyes and mouth are just too big. Obviously bigger facial features are usually cuter, but Baby Groot actually has a very small mouth especially, along with rather smaller eyes. A larger iris and a light reflection would have helped avoid the creepy soulless look as well, I think.
Sorry, the frozen smile is just too creepy. Grogu looks much better.

Maybe it’s a tie-in with the Disney+ series which is due to air later this year. Also, LEGO have been releasing sets based on earlier MCU movies. Filling in some gaps I guess.
Ugh so many stickers :(
I detect no errors on that info plaque.
@Huw You seem to have metrics on pretty much everything else - are you able to measure the sentiment /negativity and whining and moaning and whinging and complaining since the pandemic hit?
The comments used to be useful, now they pretty much devolve into people whinging about most anything. Stickers, 5 years too late, no microfig.
Same with landspeeder, aunt beru, succulents, blue milk, beskar - you only need to review the comment section from the last 10 news articles to see just how jaded the AFOL community is.
Chin up people.
I know this goes far beyond LEGO, but the debate across social media between whether this build is cute or terrifying is pretty fascinating to me. This isn't even a matter of initial perspective like those illusions or lighting like that one dress many years ago. People are looking at the exact same picture and having significantly different opinions about it. Does it have something to do with age? Personality? A combination of things? I'm intrigued, especially because I can kind of see both sides.
The nameplate, however, is a home run. If you disagree with that then you're just wrong.
Yes! The rumours about Lord of the Rings coming back are true! Treebeard looks very pleased though…
Adorable.
I was really hoping the entire comment section would be in Groot.
The Mini Cooper fender has become very popular recently!
Finally, an accurate information plaque!

I am Groot
Love the cassette
Really loving the spoof information plaque it comes with
I personally think it’s adorable! It will go very nicely next to my Grogu!
Love the cassette... should have come with a Walkman!

1st June in UK, but no pre-order!
I mean, the characters of Grogu and Groot were already kinda creepy from the right angles, yeah? I think it looks pretty great, and probably better in person.

I AM GROOT!
@jokailblinnis:
There’s such a thing as “too possible”. While ball joints would definitely allow for more dynamic posing, there would need to be limits on range for certain axes, or it’ll be like trying to stand wet noodles on end.
@jezeiger:
I don’t recall the exact lead time, but 10179 preorders were open for quite a while before the sets shipped.
@MainBricker:
It was some division of TLG that was based in SE Asia that accidentally posted a few things early, when they’d actually managed to stay off the radar up until that point. It happens.
LOL look at the sign XD
Hopefully this massive leak finally gives me a look at Lego Optimus Prime! I also want to see the Great Pyramids of Egypt Architecture set as well.
*sigh* That should be “too posable”. Does Apple’s auto-incorrect learn over time? Is it possible to port your history from one device to another?
Kill it with fire
I have built the custom MOC from Lego Masters USA season one winner Tyler Clites, which I prefer to this overall. The movable mouth and eyebrows make a huge difference. If the printed eyes become available from Pick A Brick (formerly Bricks & Pieces) I might replace those.

Brickset occasionally promotes Build Better Bricks promotional offers.
It certainly has some positives. But yeah, those eyes and mouth just aren't working for me. Can I design a better version? I doubt it, but I will have to wait and see on this one. I like the idea, but I can't get over those eyes.

You can teach it or add words to it. I can’t recall the exact procedure off the top of my head but I’ve done it before on my iPhone, ironically with posable being one of the words. (Which was entered on this post with no spellcheck override)
Should be easy to find on Google…I’m gonna look myself, just because I ought to remember. If I find anything I’ll post a link.
EDIT:
Setting>General>Keyboards>Text Replacement
Then enter the word you want in there and hit save. Try that.
Looks cool, but I would have included a radio to put that cassette.
That’s looks awful. The build itself is ok but the face - yikes. Also the cassette has the wrong shape, too square
That Cassette plus a Walkman would make a cool set by itself.
@Rare_White_Ape:
How closely did you read it? This is Baby Groot, and some of those responses are clearly from Sullen Teenaged Groot.

Don't put them on. I think it'll look just as good if not better without them. They don't add much.
Haven't seen any of the movies so not really familiar with the character (although I do know its entire vocabulary....), but this is so good! And considering its size (no clue about actual scale) I think it would display pretty well next to my BB-8 and D-O (of which I also haven't seen the movies....). To bad about the stickers but I could live with that. That cassette tape is just brilliant, and this might be the first one I'd actually want to display with the plaque....
That looks like the creature that haunts me in my nightmares.

There's just no pleasing some people
Looks like shit.
Either they should have made Mini Groot in a plant pot like someone else suggested or they should have made it into a more detailed set like 75318
