Why only 2 sets? P.S. First comment.
Looks like Monkie Kid is getting a lot more love than Ninjago ...again.
Strange seeing deities from a living religion depicted in Lego.
Nonetheless, WOW. I am LOVING the heaven set. Great successor to Flower Fruit Mountain as "giant set based on the myth that also makes a great display piece with an awe-inspiring presence." Gosh DARN.
Also giant Mo is great

I don't see it? The new Ninjago sets are pretty kick ass with lots of special moulds.
Are the clouds some kind of cardboard/plastic cutouts? I haven't seen that kind of thing except for the recent Chinese new year ice rink set. Are they becoming more common?
THIS IS GREAT FOR NINJAGO FANS AS ITS THE CLOSEST THING WE HAVE TO CLOUD CITY

I was about to moan about them, but if they are replacing the plastic sheets then fair enough. It’s either that or a nostalgic nod to Scala!
Looks great but still missing the dragon of the east set
These sets are nice, but they also kind of embody the biggest reason I don’t look at Monkie Kid sets much. They’re both over $100!

How so? Ninjago has 31 sets for 2022 so far; Monkie Kid is now at 10. On top of that, they simply announced two new sets for the summer release for one theme; more likely than not, more Ninjago sets are probably in the works.
Aside from that, I like both themes, so even if Monkie Kid actually were getting more love than Ninjago, I wouldn't mind.

Probably a plastic cutout, based on previous Monkie Kid sets:
80021: Monkie Kid's Lion Guardian
80016: The Flaming Foundry
80012: Monkey King Warrior Mech
80010: Demon Bull King
Funny I always see the Monkey Kid sets on sale. Dunno why, but they never excited my interest.
I think these sets embody pure fun and wackiness, they're always a burst of colour, include hidden and in your face features, and are designed to let the imagination run wild.
Unfortunately, I limit my genres (space and money) but if I were to expand, the vibrancy and pure joy these sets exude would convert me (although those clouds are another level weird).
80039 would have been good if 'heaven' (rather than being made out of flat card - whether cardboard or plastic) had been made from, Oh, I don't know, lets say some type of plastic, like Lego for example.
Ooh, beautiful sky temple.

Where do you see them on sale? Being exclusive to the LEGO online shop and physical stores, I assumed they never would.

I dont see Monkie Kid sets *at all*. Not since the second wave.
But Lego distribution has been pretty rubbish all around in Australia for the past few... 3ish years.

Amazon has them now too, since they picked up the mini TV series on Amazon Prime Video. I have only seen a few go on sale there (nothing out of the ordinary, compared to other Amazon discounts). I did get some of the first released sets on sale at a LEGO store, but that's probably only because they were clearing inventory for the next iteration.
Don’t sleep on Monkie Kid…Flower Fruit Mountain and City of Lanterns are fantastic.
Odd to see LEGO explore religious themes, but I love the heaven set (even if it's low on the priority list). Goes to show that LEGO's 'Code is more like guidelines, Miss Turner'.
80039 is amazing, a true must have. Of course I said that about 80024 too and still don’t have that one.
Nice parts in the temple.
That van looks like it would seriously result in an enjoyable Saturday afternoon of building. Very unique.
Imagine a Ninjago and Monkey Kid crossover....
"The Monkie Kid" theme, I must admit, is a theme don't need, but I really want yet can't afford to collect because the sets are too expensive. It's so colourful, imaginative, and crazy - the essence of Lego. I have a few which I got on sale, but I wish I could collect them all.
As a kid I would've killed to get these sets.

I don't really care for special moulds, especially since they drive up the price per piece quite substantially. This years Ninjago sets look much rougher to me than the MK sets. Especially those EVO sets never really appealed to me. The ninjago minifigs are really nice though, that i have to admit.
I love Monkie Kid, but im hesitant to buy them right away. I have 3 sets from the line, and got 1 at 25% off, and 2 that were over 40% off. I think i've seen most of the others on sale at some point too.
This makes me wonder if MK is starting to wind down.
Always love the Monkie kid sets! If only there could finally be a French dub so I could watch it with my kids ??

It’s pretty common for people on here to comment that they want LEGO to delve into religious concepts. In any case, I can’t tell what specific faith the heaven set is based on, the names are too hard to read on the box art.
I wish I could watch it in my country...
I love Monkie Kid: I have most of the sets! But the flat clouds in The Heavenly Realms just look cheap. Very disappointing, since they made that new cloud piece, and the brick-built clouds in The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain look great. The flat plastic sheet works fine for banners, flags, etc, but not here.
I love the van, though!
@Trigger_:
The original text is about a Buddhist monk, and (very loosely) based on the historical journey of a real Buddhist monk. The modern quasi-religious qigong movement has sorta glommed onto the text, though I’m not sure how deep that relationship goes.

Journey to the West is based on the then-contemporary sixteenth century syncretic fusion of Taoist, Confucian, and folk Chinese animist beliefs. At the order of the Jade Emperor, who is the supreme ruler of heaven, Lao Tzu (the founder of Taoism), who is in heaven, traps the Monkey King in an enormous crucible and tries to incinerate him. This is provoked by the Monkey King making havoc in heaven and eating all the Jade Emperor’s heavenly peaches, which make the eater immortal. But having already eaten the peaches, the Monkey King outwits Lao Tzu and the Jade Emperor and emerges stronger than ever. Those are the episodes in the novel represented by this set. The Jade Emperor is not in this set, but Lao Tzu is. They are figures rooted in religion, but the novelist who wrote Journey to the West, Wu Cheng’en, treated them mostly as superheroes and supervillains to play with in his sandbox, as has everybody else who’s engaged with the novel and derivative works for centuries. This set is no more religious than any set with Marvel’s Thor or Loki or Asgard. It’s a set with characters and settings from a slam bang pow superpowered beat ‘em up popcorn story, is all.

The first wave of Knights Kingdom II “buildable” figures had the plasticard as shields. And it was stupid. But you were supposed to be able to swap in some specialized (paper card) trading cards that came with them or something. They liked incorporating trading cards in that and the ninjago tops and the chima rev-up bikes play.
It was dumb as hell for knight shields but they sure needed it for 76025 and 76028. The floppy sheet was totally inappropriate for back accessories

Not Christianity, that's for sure. Probably something Chinese. That said...Biblical models when?

I'm moaning. They are lame! Otherwise, the sets seem really cool. Lao Tzu in minifig form- that is really cool. How awesome would it be to have more philosophical minifigs? Socrates, Plato, Decartes, Kant, Camus, Sartre?
