Knight of the yellow castle is interesting. I also like all of the holiday themed figures.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think this is the best non-licensed series so far - every minifigure is a must have. Previous ones I have cherry picked the ones I like but this is the first time I am interested in all of them. In music terms this is equivalent to Bon Jovi's 'Crossroads' album - every song is great!

Looking forward to getting them at work in September! :D

Very cute, Yellow Castle Knight and the Cardboard Robot are my instant likes but overall I think they are all very fun and interesting to look at.

Knight of the Yellow Castle: perfection.

Funny, for me this is one of the worst series ever. There isn't any fig i want to have. Too many costumes which are absolutely useless for my creations. But I bought too many figs from previous 4 series so this is actually good. For my wallet.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like most of these, hope the pop corn piece is printed on both sides. Also lots of great accessories :)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Is that printing on the 4 sides of a 1x1 Plate in the snow globe of the Christmas Elf?

I can only see two sides, and only one is printed? I’m guessing there will be a spare though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The knight's hobbyhorse & the elf's snowglobe are pieces that I'll want. Maybe the fairy's candycane too.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is that a redesign of the Knight's visor piece? It looks a little wider than I remember...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice range of figures.
Hopefully the snowman head will be utilised in future Winter village sets instead of some of the questionable brick built versions that have come before.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

This must be one of the worst series.
I will take one knight and dragon.
The best figure however is LONG OVERDUE snowman.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I sense they're running out of ideas out there at the drawing board, too many costume figures. The snowman and perhaps the knight are the cherry pick for me. Oh, all right, the nutcracker too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is one of the worst series, in my opinion.

The Cardboard Robot is hideous. The teal color doesn’t work for me. A medium nougat would have better reflected the idea of a cardboard costume.

The Ferry Captain is okay

As a non-Christian, the Reindeer Costume and other Christmas-themed minifigures don’t appeal to me. If the Reindeer didn’t have the gift as an accessory, I might see it as more of a general animal costume, but the gift turns it into one of Santa’s trusty steeds.

Green Dragon Costume and Wolf costume are okay.

Popcorn Costume and Turkey Costume are fantastic, but I wonder how much the Turkey—with its association with American Thanksgiving—has international appeal. Of course, I could be reading too much into it. Maybe it’s just a guy in a turkey suit.

Knight of the Yellow Castle is amazing. Such nostalgic appeal and I love that horsey!

The Snowman, while it could be considered part of the Christmas sub-theme, lacks the festive embellishments of the other minifigures, so I see it as just a winter-themed minifigure. I actually quite like it.

Even though I don’t like most if these, I am still going to buy them all

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm wondering if the Christmas Elf's hat/hair piece will be reused in future Christmas sets. Ditto for the Sugar Fairy's candy cane.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Some neat accessories (gingerbread cookie, candy cane, snow globe etc). It’s a shame they focus so much on costume figures, which are fun but mostly usable in a masquerade build and not much else. Then again lego is a toy first and foremost after all

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I need Captain Birdseye (aka the ferry captain) for my 910010 (The Great Fishing Boat).

Your praise for the figures doesn’t reflect your opinion that it’s the worst series, lol.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

I collect only warriors in these series so maybe, just maybe, I'll get the Knight, even though it's supposed to be a kid due to mid legs. All the others doesn't appeal to me, specially because I see no use in costumes.

Funny, most christians I know find the whole Santa/reindeer thing terrible and feel the need to explain every year that they have nothing to do with the birth of their saviour but see it as a late celebration of pagan Solstice.

Brit here, we tend to eat turkey as our Christmas dinners. I suspect they were going for that more than Thanksgiving, especially as we have a slew of other Christmas themed outfits in this. Maybe the theme for this collection is they’re all having a Christmas party

Gravatar

@bmwlego said:

That’s what I counted too, assuming the captain’s hat and the turkey heads are recolours.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like this series. The figures are cute, although mostly not useful for general purposes in a city or with other LEGO themes. The knight is a possible exception though it is kind of costume-y and the ferry captain without the ship costume part could be a normal ship's captain.

I'm not usually into a lot of Christmas themed things but I think these figures would make a great parade (I already collect the other costume figures for that purpose) and their accessories will be good for adding some seasonal decorations.

I think my least favourite is the wolf, because I'm not sure why it's wearing clothes. It doesn't seem to be a werewolf, so it's just a wolf in overalls?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Looking at the picture for the Snowman, his head doesn't look completely round and looks molded to fit into the scarf. The head probably looks strange without the scarf.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Too many "costume" minifigures for my taste, but other ones are great, especially the Knight and the Elf.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ah. That’s why they rigged the vote to push Castle in front of Bionicle. The knight gave them an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’s weird half are holiday themed and the rest are just a mishmash. They should’ve gone all the way like with the monster’s series

100 percent agreed. I'm also not a fan of the popcorn costume. It triggers my "ick" reflex. On the other hand, the Turkey Costume and Ferry Captain are A+ (the Captain's outfit looks to be good for a "normal" city layout, and the ferry itself can be a model/toy). I also appreciate that we are getting a green dragon to complement the red dragon from a few series ago.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The Knight and the Nutcracker are the only two that I find mildly interesting.

Overall one of the most forgettable series, for me. YMMV

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those that say this is the worst series and then say they like 2 or 3 of them. There were series I didnt like or buy a single one of the figures. This series does have a lot going for it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don’t really care for this series. It’s not what most people were hoping for with the 90th anniversary, I expect. It’s a bit of a weird mishmash between holiday costumes and non-holiday costumes, like the wolf.

If you own a winter village-type setup, I can see some of these being useful. But some figs I just see zero utility in them. Popcorn costume? I guess if you own the old modular theater you could put someone in that running around the lobby.

Just feels like a missed opportunity of a wave.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surprised they haven’t raised these to $6…

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm good with one, maybe two animal costumes in a series, but four is really pushing it, and for a 90th anniversary series, it feels more like a Christmas series. There are some really good Minifigures, like the knight, but it doesn't live up to it's hype, in my opinion.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't care what lego calls the Snowman. That is Frosty the snowman.

That would be really sad :-(

LEGO is trying to overcorrect and is now making every knight female lol. That being said, I love the knight minifig in this!

I thought the same thing at first, but then if you consider the release of these in September, then maybe all the costume ones count towards Halloween making the whole thing "holidays". Just a total guess.

Gravatar

Yep. Totally agree. I have no issue with a costume themed CMF wave but having half of them come from the Holidays is sort of half-A. Do it all Holiday or not. Better yet, have each one be from a different holiday throughout the year. Plus this is coming out in September. I would release them in Nov or Dec to coincide with Thanksgiving and Christmas/Winter. These will not last on the pegs until then, so I don't get the thought process of whoever decides the timing on the release date.

I would totally re-use the Ferry Captain as the captain of the Titanic if I had that set. Looking forward to the Green Dragon. It reminds me of the red Heavy Metal Dragon from that Vidiyo box.

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Knight, Nutcracker, Turkey costume; top 3 for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A lot of fun figures! I love the holiday figs, and the green dragon and knight look wonderfully retro (I wonder whether the knight has torso printing under their armor). I do kind of wish the cardboard robot were dark tan or something to look a little more rudimentary (kind of like the memetic "cardboard gundam").

I'm not sure how many of these I'll end up getting... I've sort of fallen off the CMF "wagon" since the pandemic, now that I don't make as many lengthy store visits where I can feel for the figs I want. But it's neat to see Lego continuing to pump out great designs!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This might be my least favorite CMF series in a while. Not because any of the figures were bad per-sey, but because:

A) This series has nothing to do with the other 90th anniversary sets.
B) Despite being a themed series, it lacks a sense of cohesion.

The figures in this series can be divided into three categories.

First up are generic costume figs, in the vein of series 18: Cardboard Robot, Ferry Captain, Green Dragon Costume, Wolf Costume, and Popcorn Costume

Next are various winter holiday themed figs: Reindeer, Turkey Costume, Christmas Elf, Nutcracker, Snowman, and Sugar Fairy

And finally, ONE figure based on legacy products: Knight of the Yellow Castle.

If I was in charge of this series I would have made it all figures based on high ranking themes from the 90th Anniversary vote:

Toa Tahu (Mata)
Johnny Thunder (or maybe Baron Von Baron since we already got an updated Johnny not too long ago)
Knight of the Yellow Castle
Governor Broadside
The Black Knight
Dragon Master Burnabus
Axel (Rock Raiders)
Blacktron (Original Version)
Commander Cold
Aquanaut
M-Tron
Ogel

If they wanted to go all out and make more than 12 minifigs, they could've even made everyone happy by throwing in:

Paradisa Civilian
Tim (Time Cruisers)
Wolfpack
Ann Droid

You may have noticed I skipped Classic Space, Pirates, Forestmen, Space Police, and Black Falcons on that list, despite them being high ranking. That's because in the last two years we either got sets or CMFs for them anyway. I also skipped Trains, Town, Model Team, Studios, Arctic, and Divers, as these are "generic" themes with little or no named characters to make figures out of.

(I'd also personally want to get Takua and Basil the Batlord but that might be overreaching.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never would have thought to costume a minifigure as a box of popcorn, but now I have to have it!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

As a collector of all the costumed minifig's I couldn't be more happier :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This series is totally middle-of-the-road for me. No minifigures that I really dislike and none that I'll be desperate to find. Seems they really nailed the "average" rating for me.

Usually there's at least 1 or 2 minifigs in a range that I really don't want and 1 or 2 that I will keep feeling up bags for until I find them. ...but in this range, I feel like I'd be equally happy with any of these as long as it's not a duplicate. That said, I am leaning toward the knight as the best just as a reference to the original yellow castle...but the short legs on her is a disappointment to me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@GSR_MataNui I'm interested to know who you think the target audience for CMFs is?

I would guess that they target them at kids buying pocket money toys, plus teen and adult collectors but I'm not sure what the split would be on that. If this next series is 'evidence' then I think kids and more casual buyers are the primary targets.

I'm having a hard time imagining how LEGO could make
figures based on older themes appealing to kids who have no idea of the back story: would they be cool in their own right and also sufficiently similar to the originals to satisfy the AFOLs?

https://brickset.com/sets/71008-1/Classic-King

This guy was based on the Yellow Castle too, his official description (not on the LEGO.com website anymore, unfortunately) went like this:

"The Classic King’s kingdom is just getting started. He doesn’t have much land or treasure yet, or even his own little village to rule, but he’s already recruited fourteen brave and loyal knights, and by working together they have constructed a fine golden castle. It has battlements and a flag and a drawbridge and everything!
Creating a brand-new kingdom isn’t easy, but the Classic King is full of big ideas. He imagines that one day, the world will be full of castles and fortresses and inns and forests. There may even be horses for his knights to ride…though for right now, they’ll have to build their own!"

And I realize only now that the Queen is related to this too! https://brickset.com/sets/71011-16/Queen

"The Queen comes from a slightly larger kingdom than the Classic King, and as such she wonders if it wouldn’t be a good idea to be a little less old-fashioned and a little more up-to-date. There are all sorts of modern conveniences that could help to improve their golden castle, like one-piece portcullis gates and base plates with built-in dungeons and walls with lovely stone-and-ivy patterns.
Between the King’s big ideas and the Queen’s grand vision, their united lands are moving swiftly toward the future. New armor! New horses! New taverns and towers! In fact, the kingdom is growing so vast and successful that they’re starting to think about splitting it in two and giving half to each of their royal children. Surely that can’t lead to any trouble, can it?"

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Reckon I can easily skip this one. Not bad if you like Christmas; I don't

Gravatar
By in United States,

There’s almost a perfect ratio of guy and woman Minifigures this time— 8/6 (I’m counting the snowman as a man off of the name, idk what the face print under the mask is). Costumed CMFs don’t interest me for the most part and these don’t break that trend plus I don’t like festive stuff (too joyful -_-) so that doesn’t help with some of them but the wolf costume could work for a werewolf if I swapped out the head and the prevalence of mid-legs is cool.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I agree with the comments that this should have probably been a holiday them one although that could be a challenge with keeping non-religious - not sure how you would do Yom Kippur or Ramadan without it being religious.

For me as a City guy I'll probably get:

Turkey Guy - could also be a mascot

Ship Captain - sans boat - no gentleman of that dignity would be caught dead wearing a boat costume - though said boat could be used in a toy store or a kids remote controlled toy boat.

Popcorn Guy - no bag of popcorn?

Elf - love that snowglobe!

Nutcracker - not really into the Christmas stuff, but...

Knight of the Yellow Castle - of course there will be a run on these for army builders.

I was always taught as a kid that Santa, reindeer, and all that stuff is just good fun. So long as one’s focus isn’t entirely on those and on the arrival of Jesus, it’s fine. Oh, also don’t use “X-Mas” or “Happy Holidays”.

At least Santa was actually based on a Saint. I find the Easter bunny more egregious. What does a bunny leaving chocolate and play six eggs around symbolize? Santa could be argued to be in the spirit of giving. What does the bunny symbolize?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The only one I definitely want is the Knight, as it ties in with the new castle (featuring the same shield inside) and it would feel like the set is missing a minifigure otherwise. I do hate falling for LEGO's games!

I love the contrast of the sand blue arms/torso with the pink and silver. Will just have to get some full size silver legs to turn it into an adult knight. The miniature horse head is fantastic too. Unfortunately it will surely be the one most in demand :-(

Omg, get over it.
They didn't rig anything. The whole castle theme almost doubled the second one. Lego made a mistake of fragment it into sub-themes, which was really bad...

Gravatar
By in United States,

None of these minifigures stand out to me that much but it seems Lego has really leaned into the cutesy-factor with the faces and I think that's a great idea. The minifigure kinda has a bit of a cutesy/chibi nature to it already, so cranking that up with the new face prints is a plus.

@PixelTheDragon said:

Diabetes and sugar addiction. Don't worry about the fact that he's associated with eggs either, because if you think about it, it still doesn't make sense.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

One of the weaker series in a while. I might take a pass on this one, maybe after bricklinking the Snowman and Knight.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Going to be the first wave since the monster wave that I don't intend to collect them all. Too many Christmas and costumes I don't need/use/want.

But that knight? Going to get me a few of those, to be sure.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I love the Ferry Captain! Still waiting to see what his torso print looks like without the ship though...

I really like the Snowman. The Nutcracker would have made a good Imperial soldier but sadly it looks like his hat and exaggerated hair are one piece which sucks. We need printed Shako hats again!

The rest are pretty useless or uninteresting. I wish we had got a more regular knight, this one reminds me of some kids cartoon I think it was called The Little Princess??

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Cardboard Robot and Knight of the Yellow Castle is all I wants.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like these one, I really do; and I want army-build a bunch of Snowmen so I have 'em invade my City-folk with their bon...er 'brick' chilling battlecry: "HAAAAAAPPY BIRTHDAAAAAY"...:)

Gravatar
By in United States,

the knight is kinda neat and nostalgic but other than that this series doesn't really have anything going for it

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Norikins:
No, that would probably have to be part of a licensed product. This could just be a generic wolf based on either Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Little Pigs, but any reference to a Disney production would be a veiled hint at best.

@Trigger_:
You might want to recount the guys. There are only twelve minifigs in this wave, with an even 6:6 split (if you count the Snowman as male).

@Giorgio78:
They’ve been pointedly ignoring Bionicle for years, and certainly wouldn’t have expected it to win. We’ve seen a giant Castle (recalculated to be in first place), and a 3-in-1 Classic Space set (bumped from second to third, I believe), but let me know when they announce a big celebratory set for the theme that saved the company from bankruptcy and _STILL_ beat all the Space votes combined. Oh, wait, we already got Sad Tahu in 11021.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I was hopelessly looking for grey helmet after the Rocket Boy torso, you know, with Classic Space torso. Knight of the Yellow Castle came a bit late but it's fine. Finally my grey space minifiure will be complete.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Always bizarre how everyone sees the CMF´s as (minifig)parts packs. They are ´collectable´ minifigures and are a bunch of figs, themed and linked or not. Sure, some of them could come in handy in this or that MOC or setup but that isn't exactly the point of the series.
I love this series, there are some nice ideas and moulds and they are clearly aimed at the holiday months of the year. I can't wait to get all 12 of them.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I'm not going to get any at all. I'm not very into costumes.
I kinda like the robot and the knight, but not enough to go after them. I would've preferred a cooler knight.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm into CMFs, costumes, and X-mas. So, there's no hope for me. Gotta get 'em all.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Sadly they are not for me. Infantile. Too many costumes. Not a single one minifigure could live in the LEGO CITY I like. There is also no new pet or unique accessory. Boring

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Watsonite:
Regardless of intent by the design team, CMFs have been a source for tons of unique prints, molds, and parts in new colors. Several monochrome minifigs are only possible due to CMFs.

@aarekk:
Ten new costume elements (robot head, ship, reindeer head, wolf head, popcorn hat, turkey head, turkey tail, elf hair, nutcracker hat, snowman head) and two new accessories (hobby horse head, candy cane) is an average of one new element per minifig. It may not suit your tastes, but sometimes themed waves like this use up the new mold budget on stuff that’s not general purpose like new animal molds (skunks, dachshunds, etc).

Look at Series 22. Toucan, Foal or Lute. These are kinds od moulds I like. Costume heads? To many of them, of course it is only my opinion. I am only pointing out that this selection is not universal and suits only part of LEGO community.

Gravatar

@aarekk:
Ever since S2 was announced, I’ve noticed that pretty much every new series announcement is met with “best series ever” and “worst series ever” comments, no matter what it consists of. There appears to be no single universal sense of taste. Mascot-style costumes happen to be incredibly popular, at least with a subset of AFOLs. It might take a few more releases (licensed themes have been outpacing numbered waves 2:1 the last five years), but they’ll get back to releasing more varied numbered waves.

"These figures are tempting, but not buying them with the scummy blind boxes."

Blind boxes will not be introduced until September 2023, so this series will be packaged in the normal bags.

I know what I have to save for now... All of them!

What? This is 2022’s third wave, which should release in September. I (and probably others) read it as taking place this year rather than in 14 months. Here’s hoping the next two batches are DC2 and Muppets2!

@CCC:
When a standard mixed-theme numbered series is announced, I usually see a few people gush over the mascots more than anything else. I like buying them if I can put a certain Atlantis head in them.

Knight of the Yellow Castle is a must have for me.

I think this is going to be a popular one given the release of 10305. Fits in very nicely with the existing 'castle children' sub-theme they have going.

The rest of them are nice to varying degrees, however some are a bit of an overlap with existing CMF releases.

For me the price is getting too expensive for 1 minifigure however at 49 SEK.....

This whole series is amazing. So much better than what they've been putting out the last few years.

But I'll definitely want extras of some, if I can find them. I don't think I've even seen the latest series yet at Walmart/Target yet...good thing I bought a full set online.

Now I can only hope the Brooklyn 99 set comes to be on Ideas, so I can put Boyle in his Tommy Gobbler costume. That's a pretty sweet 'stume he's got there.

I like all of them, even the fairy. Are these coming in the new box packaging? I do like these all but I would like to find certain ones first.

As someone who collect any Christmas related sets/figures for my Winter Village I'll definitely be getting multiples of the Reindeer Costume, Xmas Elf, Nutcracker and Snowman. Putting together the Lego Winter Village is something my family enjoys doing together each year.
