Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 15

Posted by ,

Many microscale scenes in this Advent Calendar have proven quite impressive, although the last pair of creations were less well-received, on the whole.

Hopefully the minifigure expected today will be better...

LEGO Harry Potter was launched in 2001, concluded in 2010 and then returned in 2018. In that time, Nymphadora Tonks never appeared in minifigure form, so her welcome inclusion in three sets within the last few years was a surprise! The new minifigure is similar to that from 76408 12 Grimmauld Place, albeit with her jacket open, rather than closed.

Tonks' attire looks splendid in relation to scenes at Grimmauld Place from Order of the Phoenix and I like the cross insignia on her shirt, matching the film. This lavender hair element also suits the character nicely, but perhaps most appealing is her new alternative face, that denotes Tonks' rare Metamorphmagus ability.

After briefly transforming her nose into a snout, as represented in 76408 12 Grimmauld Place, Tonks then transforms it into a beak! Her standard smiling expression remains unchanged, so introducing a new alternative design was a nice surprise. Tonks also includes a reddish brown wand and stands on a dark tan plate, like other items from Order of the Phoenix.

Overall - This exclusive Tonks minifigure is excellent, especially for the updated double-sided head.

Love the exclusive head.

Without context her head looks very cursed.

But a nice inclusion and a nice level of effort put in to make her distinct ánd more affordable.

If it walks like a duck, and Tonks like a duck…

As much as I love this one, and it's great to get a new Tonks, Luna would have been better for it, she was a new character that year and a bigger part of the story than Tonks

A great little figure! It would be cool if TLG would experiment with color-changing plastic for the hair piece. Imagine the fun if you could heat up or cool down the piece to change its color!

Neat! I heard about the alternate head in the other set, but didn't realize this had one also. Not that I'll likely ever look at them I guess. But still fun to have.

@Bagelwolf:
That’s a cool feature if you want to specifically play with that feature. If you’re doing a public display, it sucks. If you’re just playing with them, and you keep having to apply hot or cold just to keep the right face visible, it sucks. If you’re playing in a setting where the temperature is hot or cold enough that it won’t even stay changed for one second, it really sucks.

True, but we are already getting a couple of luna in the sets recently, so it would probably be a duplicate one, since I don't see them doing another version soon (what scene?) and Tonks is still pretty rare; also, if not included here, we probably would have to wait for a remake of the Grimmauld Place set to get this new alternate face, since it wouldn’t fit any other scene.

That would be sweet!
I keep calling her Nymphadora, but to no avail…

@PurpleDave :
Poster was talking about the hair piece, not the face.
I could imagine it being her ‘normal’ colour at room temperature and changing after slightly warming it up in your hands. It would change back fairly quickly, but in the film it is only a brief moment too, so that would work for play.
While I get your point that this would be inconvenient for display, I take it you could find a more standard hair piece in some other set or bricks and pieces that would give you what you needed for the look you are going for.

I did miss that distinction, but it doesn’t change my opinion. In Grimmauld Place, she comes with alternate red and medium-lavender hair. To date, that set is the only source for her hairstyle in red, and this is the only alternate source for medium-lavender. If they’d gone the color-change route, at least one of these two pieces wouldn’t exist.

Poor Tonks. RIP. That head is awesome! HP is really making a run for Best AC and this year SW has been crazy good. But, HP is barely behind.
