Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 4
Posted by CapnRex101,
I have enjoyed the Star Wars Advent Calendar so far, especially given the focus on Prequel Trilogy subjects, which have been underrepresented in past calendars.
Maybe another Separatist craft will be deployed today...
In fact, an Acclamator-class Republic Assault Ship has dropped out of Hyperspace, leaving the Tri-Fighter hopelessly outgunned! The broad shape of this vessel, unusual among Star Destroyers, is effectively recreated here, particularly through the use of 2x4 wedge plates on either flank. I like the mixture of light and dark bluish grey colours too.
Moreover, a 1x1 tooth plate captures the rounded design of the Acclamator's command tower, with texture provided by the 1x2 grille slope underneath. The bright green 1x1 round plate found inside is interesting and I choose to believe this is a reference to Star Wars: Republic Commando, when an Acclamator-class Assault Ship is overtaken by Trandoshans.
Overall - This model of the Republic's mighty transport improves upon the 2013 design in every respect.

Are you able to provide pictures of the source material in these for comparison? :)
@Mazeboy177 :
Are you able to copy-paste a bit of text into a search engine? :)
Anyone else trying to build their models in the bag?

What is this ‘copy-paste’ of which you speak?

It's a reasonable request to make. The review of the model mentions that it's accurate, but there's nothing to illustrate that whilst it would be just as easy to include a reference image. Now every reader can stay on the page and don't have to leave the site just to find the other half of the argument about its accuracy.
And let's be real, this thing appears in only a few background shots and one prominent backside shot in Attack of the Clones. It's reasonable to assume most people aren't super familiar with its overall shape.
Great model btw. As I'm not super knowledgeable about the types of Star Destroyers, I would have believed it could be one from the First Order as well, but looking at what the Acclamator looks like I think this model is very effective too. I love how they managed to offset the most forward pointing bit. That does wonders for the shape!

You crazy!
There's one of you every year. Either a Jedi or a crazy-ass Sith. May the Force be with You!
Good re-design. SWAC on fire this year.
EDIT: Cap'n Rex is the Best!

I have added a reference image and will do so for future articles too, when the subject is not universally recognisable.
Those green studs need to learn that I’m a lot scarier than they are.

Hello, the reference image is nice and I wonder: maybe the green stud is the power core. I thought I was alone remembering the Republic Commandos game.
*adds a 1x1 round plate under the tooth plate to raise it up a bit* Much better!
You give me too much credit for the green round plate - but I'll take it! ;)
Its reason is simply to pacify the building instruction person - they like colorful pieces.
Or it could be ... Yoda! Yes, Yoda on an undercover mission. Pick your favorite theory :)

I'd like to believe the green piece is LEGO hiding a Christmas micro-tree within the set for the Advent calendar!

Thank you!

I did one year but it quickly lost the challenge and became tedious. Especially with multiple calendars.
For a more fun challenge try building without looking at the picture.
I really must brush up on my Star Wars prequel lore because for the second day running I had no idea what it was.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I’m enjoying your set (did you design all the non-minifigure builds in this one, or just certain days’ ones?).
@BrickCommander:
Or, I don’t know…Christmas?
As a massive Republic Commando fan, I love this build, and the potential nod. Really hope we get a playscale one someday

It wasn't an unreasonable request.
@Binnekamp: I thought it was a First Order Star Destroyer at first, too. Amusingly, I'm much more familiar with Prequel Trilogy ships that Sequel Trilogy ones, but this one just slipped by me.
@Binnekamp:
@TheOtherMike:
They seem to have largely backed off of using sequel craft in the Advent Calendar. I suspect sales took a hit when they released one that featured exclusively post-Lucas models, which I skipped completely after buying two per year going back to the first one.

Indeed it wasn't, but then again: doing some research on your own on a subject matter that supposedly interests you, doesn't hurt either...
Also not sure how the now provided picture helps at all ;-)
