A German retailer has posted this image of 42151 Bugatti Bolide on Instagram, giving us our first glimpse of a 2023 Technic set.

A number of new styling elements are visible, including the yellow panels on the front.

By in Sweden,

Immediately reminded me of some older technic sets. The black and yellow color scheme and somewhat hollow front end feels nostalgic

The Lego sticker is an interesting touch. Wonder why they decided to add it as no real car (of this model) would have that logo

Also interesting they’ve not only licensed the car, but a mobile game too, “CSR”.

By in Serbia,

Wow, what a blast from the past! Colors, hollowness, niiiice!

Honestly, I thought it was another Random set of the day...

I like it :)

And so the reveal of 2023 sets begins. Excited!

Pity the Bugatti labels are stickers, at the least those should be printed.

It reminds me of the Technic sets of yesteryear, and I love it.

Looks like steering might be the only 'technic' functionality in this one?

... or perhaps +opening door

I’m going to take a bold risk and hazard a guess the wheels turn as well. :p

By in Finland,

Looks nice, although it's gonna be a pain to bend that small soft axle at the front. It looks like it won't stay there!

By in Netherlands,

I absolutely adore this set's box design. Almost thought this post showed an old box!

Which real-life car does this set represent? I didn't even know Bugattis came in colors other than blue.

By in Canada,

Looks fine, BUT this is 'supposed' to be a Technic set. For comparison, it is very likely that 60324 (a city set) has more functions than this set - I will be more than happy to be wrong if anything.

I think it is well known to all by now that you can achieve a better aesthetic result with 'System'. The 'Technic' range is for functions and technicalities/mechanisms (hence the name) - a model with only steering just does not cut it no matter how nice it is (IMO always).

Honestly looks like something out of 2003 Drome Racers

That box looks like its from the 2000s.

By in Brazil,

The yellow and black color scheme definitely gives late 90s / early 00s Technic vibes. The set looks great!

8/15 comments so far (mine included) referencing how old-school the box looks. Statistically that's a certified landslide!

Is it the yellow and black-ness of the build alone? Does this set look like a particular set from a earlier era? I'm not usually so interested in this kind of thing, but for so many of us to have such an immediate strong nostalgic reaction to a set showing a very modern supercar is very unusual, no?

It's even more interesting if the nostalgic vibe was an intentional move by TLG.

Any graphic designers or other experts want to put their finger on why we're feeling what we're feeling?

By in United Kingdom,

Autocar have a photo of the 1825bhp track vehicle showing where compromises were needed to be made at this scale in Lego, but should still have great play-ability with the other similar scaled Technic models when touring around the bedroom.

By in Netherlands,

Aside from the image quality and maybe the color scheme I don't see how people view this as nostalgic. Aside from the split hood there's a bazillion panels as usual and the first thing I noticed (it being licensed) immediately places it in the 'yup, that's current-day technic' category for me.

By in Slovakia,

The color scheme matches some of the PR pictures of the track version, so I guess there was some IP holder input (but also there are other color options)
What is puzzling is the inclusion of CSR Racing logo on box - a app freemium game where this care is a paid top tier purchase. A code for virtual car included ... maybe ?
And the LEGO logo on the side - is LEGO now sponzoring motorsport ? Does it appear as skin in that game with that logo ? Or just so they have put logo on a an IP care (can't remember this in Technic, SC or elsewhere before).

It does look like an older set. I don't even have any interest in Technic so I'm not sure why I feel that. Maybe because it's yellow and black? All previous supercars have been coated in color whereas this one has a lot of black.

By in United Kingdom,

The model looks really good but the box art is dreadful. The car gets lost in the background!

By in Canada,

The image of the back of the box (Shared on Eurobricks this morning) reveals that it does have the micro W16 piston engine as well, so it's probably at least a bit more functional than the previous Sena and Corvette.

My main hope is it fits on the car transporter. If it does, then it'll be the final car to finally fill it out.

Which other cars you have on it?

By in Germany,

They honestly call it "Bolide"?
That's simply the German word for "fast car".

Totally. Maybe someone at Lego decided to go back to old graphic design concepts.

This is not for me. I just built my first ever Technic set 4481. It was fun. But, I like a little more variety. I need more brick and click with my shtick.

"Slick looking Technic car!! I haven't bought a technic set in ages, but if the price is in the $25 - $35 range, I'll be picking one up! The scale is excellent too. "

It’ll be around 49

By in Netherlands,

Considering it has steering (and no mention of it on the front of the box) I assume the pullback motors are gone? I wonder if they managed to include a W16 at this scale, otherwise it would still be pretty disappointing for a Technic model. I do kind of like the looks, although the position of the headlights looks even weirder than on the real thing. And obviously way too many stickers, though I feel it wouldn't look that much worse if you leave most of them off.

By in Australia,

I thought this was an article on vintage Technic sets, particularly from the 80s when I first saw that image.

By in Italy,

We can find the 42151 car in the video game CSR Racing (Custom Street Racing for Android and Apple) from which it is derived and of which it reproduces the graphic elements of the livery itself. In the lower right corner, on the front of the box, is also located the logo of the video game. The digital version of the supercar was usable as in the 2-to-5 slot the Supercar Science: Bugatti event, which was available from Dec. 23, 2020 to Jan. 6, 2021. The Bugatti Bolide was only available as an in-app purchase, on its own or bundled with the Bugatti Divo and Bugatti Centodieci.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that this came straight out of the early 2000s.
