I see a “Monkie Kid Marketplace” in the database, no picture though. Also has a very different number. What’s going on there? That set sounds amazing.

I like these A LOT more than the new Ninjago sets.

Those monkeys mean business tho : 11031: Creative Monkey Fun (also a new set)

By in Greece,

That hideout (and some of the rest of this theme) is epic!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Never bring a knife to a mech fight!

Also, anyone else think it's weird they don't seem to be giving Mei her helmet in these sets?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know quite a few LEGO buyers(young and old) but I dont know anyone that has bought a Monkie Kid set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

80044 might be the first Monkey Kid set I buy. Love the aesthetic

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Monkie Kid set designers are in another league - seriously creative!

With all these mechs coming out across all these different themes, I'm hoping for a Lego computer game where they can all clash!! My kids are already pitting them against each other in our lounge : )

By in United States,

The pricing on these looks better aligned than last time, but LEGO... how do you justify the disparity for 80044? $140 vs €100? and the € price already has VAT included where the USD price will have ~10% more added from sales tax? Literally 50% more expensive at that point.

By in United States,

I look forward to seeing how the Hideout connects to the City of Lanterns. Seems like it would also look nice next to Flower Fruit Mountain.

By in United States,

Monkie Kid with the crazy good large playsets again!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Easy day 1 purchases for me. These are really quite lovely. I think the hideout is my favorite of the bunch second to the ultimate mech set we saw earlier.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

I want that Hideout to continue adding it with sets like the Monkey King Mountain as it is great for environmental scenes.

By in Australia,

Isn't this it's final year? Nexo Knights, Mixels, Hidden Side, Ultra Agents and all of them went for 2-3 years and ninjago was originally going to go for 3 years, so I assumed it was Monkie Kid's last year.

How do you know it combines with City of Lanterns? Are there any photos? Thanks

By in Hungary,

A bit weaker than the previous waves, but that is fine as I will blow my MK budget on 80045 anyhow.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Didn't we just get a dragon-jet for Mei?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I find this theme so interesting--I'm not collecting it, but I do have a few sets from it. I really like how it's both traditional and whimsical at the same time. And that's probably the first Lego rendition of an Erhu we've seen. Is there anything the Kid can't do?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Monkie Kid is so good! We finally have some cheap sets! That new sword piece is really interesting, and I really love how detailed these figures are! Now if only they had a wider retail release...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

SMALLER SETS! My goodness, finally again!
I love that there's two, although I'm not sure about the combining. But thank goodness they're sold seperately for once so you're not forced to buy one large set to get either. I might finally be able to afford one I want (the mech)!

Overal I'm happy! The larger sets look stellar as usual if not overly detailed. My first response to 80044 was that it looks like a LOT of work putting all that together.
I got 71747 vibes from it, which was a set where the sheer amount of detail put into each section had felt overwhelming when I first built it.
(Context: I don't have enough space to display everything so I periodically dismantle and rebuild in rotation.)
It might be for the best I won't be able to afford that large MK set then because it does look beautiful!

Also, those elephant and vulture(?) builds give off major Chima vibes. In a good way!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely getting that mech! Looks like a fun small set.
The rest are beautiful as always with this line, but not sure if I'll be picking any up.

"Didn't we just get a dragon-jet for Mei?"

80020 was the White Dragon Horse Jet; 80041 is just a Dragon Jet, free of Horse-ish elements. Still, it's nice for Monkie Kid to be catching up with Jay from Ninjago in needing subtle distinctions between all the flavours of Mei's jets.

Speaking of the jet, I'd like to echo all those who are happy to see some $20 sets in the range - the mech costs that too (although I'm confused why the lego.com description describes it as having "novelty knee joints"). It's just a shame the Lego stores in the US seem not to be carrying MK sets any more; apparently they just don't sell well enough.

One final part thought: Mei's jet has two of 57906 FLAP 3x12x2/3 W. FORK in white for the first time since 2008, where it was in 7714 Golden Guardian and 10186 General Grievous, so the $5 each cost on Bricklink should come down nicely.

By in Canada,

That elephant is awesome. A deployable mech, 2 huge guns, and a lil jail cart for Pigsy. I love it, Monkie Kid sets are so good

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Hideout looks great, and that elephant looks fun. Not sure I’ll get them though.

It’s an evergreen theme like Ninjago now, so I’m excited to see where it goes. These sets are amazing.

By in United States,

These sets look great!

The team hideout is amazing and has "traditional" variants of all the characters (except Tang, who appears in the large mech that was already revealed). I love that it continues the modularity of previous sets. When I heard there'd be a hideout I was expecting something more high-tech and modern, but I'm delighted by this more traditional, rural-looking mountain hideaway! And the large wing-pack for the Golden Winged Eagle looks great too.

The yellow-tusk elephant also looks great—wonderfully bulky, with some great-looking play features. I also love that the version of Mei in that set matches the MK from the larger mech (though I'm still waiting on Mei getting a mech of her own!).

The two cheaper sets are great-looking too, and I love the combining feature, but as a collector they feel a bit inessential—both MK and Mei from those sets are repeats from this year (good ones, mind you—the mech armor MK from Nezha's Fire Ring has PHENOMENAL printing). I'm not complaining, since it's always nice to not have to get every set from a wave.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love them all. Was really hoping to see an expansion set to City of Lanterns, which is an all-time favorite set of mine. 80044 is amazing but not quite an expansion of it.

Maybe for the summer wave!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've only ever bought one Monkie Kid set, 40472. (I also have 30341, but that was a GWP.) I've got some in my wanted sets, but they just cost more than I'm willing to spend on them. But that jet and mech are tempting, being as cheap as they are.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

I REALLY HOPE that MK gets available in Brazil at last. Buying the sets via importing can be troublesome, not to mention it can be more expensive than if Lego of Brazil made them properly available here.

Now, the sets once again look fantastic, as usual for MK. I want all of them.

There are no photos at the moment, but the set description on LEGO.com mentions it. You can also see how some sections detach in the database images, although they do not show the connections with 80036 The City of Lanterns.

Looking at the back of the box and the “Modular build” panel it appears like it can be in place of instead of combined with. I don’t see how they can actually combine the two sets.

No, the first couple of years did so poorly in Australia that nobody carries MK sets anymore, the remainder were clearanced out at half price to get rid of them, and they've since disappeared.

By in United States,

Still no Minecraft one of these?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Hmmm. I may consider getting the Elephant.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

That elephant has serious Chima vibes, with the added benefit of Monkie Kid's gap-filling and detailing! Would love to see some LOTR oliphants in the same style.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The smaller mech seems like such a good set to kickstart a collection! Give it to a 10 year old, and hopefully see a passion grow. Reminds me of my first Ninjago set, the 2013 Kai Mech!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't do the Mechs or vehicles but the Team Hideout will definitely be going on my wish list. I usually grab the one or two Building or Scenic sets that get released for for this theme which of course are usually the more expensive sets in each wave.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My goodness, this feels like a fantastic start to Lego's 2023. Ninjago, City, Friends, Creator, and Monkie Kid sets have been STELLAR imo.

Even better for me, most of the sets I want to buy are small and cheap!

The modules have the same 8x8 footprint as the City of Lanterns modules, with the connection points for pins in the same place. So you could swap some of the smaller modules with the buildings from City of Lanterns, or potentially attach whole sections to the left and right.

Personally I don't know how well it would work visually—this new set has a much more "rural" vibe than the built-up City of Lanterns. But I like that the modularity is maintained regardless.

By in United States,

For my personal tastes, Monkie Kid is the best line that Lego is making right now. They're very creative, fun, and chaotic (in a good way, like the Ninjago movie sets). I've also been able to pick almost all of the ones I wanted on sale - the only one I paid full price for was the "White Dragon Horse Jet", which I purchased based on this website's glowing review of the build techniques. It was my second Monkie Kid set, after Pigsy's Noodle Tank - a set I couldn't resist because of the absurdity of a ramen bowl tank that comes with a panda robot sporting a hot sauce flame thrower.

Hm…looks like one of the demons that first got teased in the new giant mech set might be exclusive to that one-the lion, if I don’t miss my guess.

So far, yes—but it's not entirely unlikely that some of the same villains from this wave will show up in the summer sets as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Azure Lion show up in another set, and possibly get a mech/vehicle of his own.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As with City of Lanterns, the UK gets a surprisingly good price on 80044 relative to other regions, the US especially. As pointed out, that's a crazy price disparity.

I love the buildings from this theme so at £89.99 will be seriously tempted to buy the Hideout. I'll be curious to see how people integrate it with the City.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The golden winged eagle's side build in 80044 makes me miss legends of chima. I think I'll try to build that in the raven colors once the instructions release.

Perhaps a segue between the two. I want that one and the Oliphant... oops, I mean elephant.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wish Ninjago got better adult sets instead of forced cultural domination of Monkey Kid sets. They dont sell locally i am sure in some markets they do well. I know lego doesnt want to canabalize sales by overlaping markets but just like marvel & dc can coexisit...

I think that the compatibility with the City of Lanterns is that you can use or exchange the individual building parts in the city. The part with the mountain (right half) I will definitely use as a supplement to the flowers fruit mountain.
