Images of the forthcoming Lord of the Rings BrickHeadz sets have now surfaced on LEGO's pick-a-brick page.

The three sets, which each contain two figures, will most likely be released in January and cost the same as other double packs, which is around £17.99/$19.99.

By in Netherlands,

I WANT THEM ALL!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Hmmmm.... Can't say I'm impressed. Aragorn looks okay and so does Gandalf, but furthermore... Not my cup of tea

Gravatar
By in Australia,

All of them look good, and more LotR is a bonus. Gollum could look less plain though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Feel like Arwen needed SOME kind of basic printing on her dress.

The Balrog is cute. Love that tiny orange whip.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Funko pops changed the world for the worse.

Go back to the shadow, Brickheadz.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The Balrog looks like a mix between a Gremlin and a black elephant to me.
Gollum just looks like a plain block of bricks with eyes. And the others, while at least recognizable, do nothing for me either.
Easy pass.

Now new "proper" LOTR sets with minifigs, that would be something different.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Apart from his outfit there is nothing that really makes Frodo look like Frodo. But the other ones are quickly recognisable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow they really dropped the ball when it came to Frodo's hair. Completely unrecognizable.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not impressed.. Gollum looks reaaaaally dull.

Gandalf is nice but the rest are meh

Gravatar
By in United States,

LOTR fans like me are happy, and take this as a sign of things to come. But let's be honest, this is not what we really wanted. We want minifig sets!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I tried counting but there are people on here a lot better with that than I. Is Frodo the same height as Gandalf and Aragorn?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@WemWem said: "Feel like Arwen needed SOME kind of basic printing on her dress."

I think she needed a different colour on the dress, because at first glance, the pale green looks a lot like the beige of her skin-tone, and she seems naked. I had to look twice before I realised, oh, she's not naked.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Balrog looks like a puppy with big hanging ears... eh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

We finally get a BrickHeadz baby. I don't recall a scene in the movies where is Frodo is with a baby, but it's great for fans of BrickHeadz.

...What do you mean that's supposed to be Gollum?

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Well. I am still not into these BrickHeadz at all. In Fact I do not have a single One in my LEGO Collection. So this is a hard pass for me. BUT I am happy for Everyone here who is already enthusiastic about the Release. Enjoy

Gravatar
By in Germany,

BrickHeadz do nothing for me. But having a BrickHeadz Balrog turned out rather cute, I'd say

I was thinking more of "Run, you fools!".

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

This Balrog is everything.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I hate this line of puppets, but I will get these to keep my LOTR collection complete. They're never going on display tho...

Gravatar
By in United States,

They’re pretty dull, especially Arwen and Gollum.

Gravatar
By in United States,

we need a real set not brickheadz.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Frodo looks a little bland, Gollum looks very bland, the Balrog looks rushed, Gandalf looks simple and so does arwen but Aragorn is chef kiss

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, these are all day 1 buys. But the Balrog, although still cool (hot), is so, I guess, "diminished" (to steal from Galadriel) as a Brickhead.

First time the eye tiles are in yellow though, correct?

Legolas and Gimli is the next obvious set; would Sam + Merry + Pippin be a 3 pack?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Gollum looks like a baby holding a rattle. Otherwise, these look quite decent and will definitely be picking up the Balrog/Gandalf and Arwyn/Aragon sets!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a huge fan of BrickHeadz to begin with, but these really don't do it for me. I'll be curious to see if we ever get any minifigure-scale sets again. Thankfully, I picked up most of the figures I liked before the sets retired.

So good. Your comment, that is.

I don't do BH, but might get Bally. He a mess, but he's a Hot Mess!

Gollum looks like a fresh, naked boy skipping through the woods.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will be getting them all. Balrog seems an odd choice for the scale alone. But I suppose they shared a scene together. If they hadn't made Frodo 4x4, they could have produced a set like the Mcducks with Boromir and the 3 hobbits.... Or maybe Gimli

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Wow, they've managed to design something LotR that I don't want. I'm really impressed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

People seem to hate on Brickheadz, and while I'm normally a fan... these aren't great.

That being said, its Lord of the Rings and I'll be buying them all. The Balrog is neat, and I really like Aragorn. Frodo and Gandalf are an ok design.

Arwen is... green.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There’s only so much you can do to change a skinny malnourished pale creature into a square blocky brick-built figure. I think they look pretty good. Brickheadz don’t do much for me, but I’m glad these exist and the possibility of what can come later.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Some "normal" set would be nice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really hoping this is a precursor to more LotR sets because I've never been a fan of the Brickheadz line and don't want this to be all we get

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hopefully LEGO will make minifigure sets if we buy a bunch of these

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

After years of asking LEGO for a Balrog in a set, they finally delivered. Hey, we never specified.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Little

Greatly
Overpriced

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hopefully this leads to new actual sets.

Gravatar
By in France,

Ugly as usual... still can't believe some people actually collect these...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Balrog is a nice touch. I just hope the brown pieces don't break like before.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@StarWarzFan7777:
You’d think they would have at least used Sting to represent Sting instead of some basic longsword. For that matter, I gave several copies of Sting to Wonder Woman minifigs because it’s much more accurate to the shape of what she had in the Gal Gadot film.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm so sorry to everyone that's excited for these, but I'm super sad if this is all we're getting. I am not a fan of brickheadz at all.

Gravatar
By in Moldova,

As a big LOTR fan I'm disappointed. Aragorn and Arwen are ok, but the rest of them - just a missed opportunity.

Gravatar
By in United States,

We could be getting minifig sets but instead we're getting this Funko-wannabe garbage.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The world has changed indeed. I see it in the promo pics. I feel it in the Brickset comments. I smell it in my empty wallet.

I was a huge fan of the first Lord Of The Rings sets, my brother and I went out of our way to get as many as possible - and even The Hobbit ones for good measure. The rumors of new sets had me nervous that we'd be seeing sets from that abysmal Rings of Power show, but now that I see these BrickHeadz ... to borrow from The Hobbit, we're "out of the frying pan and into the fire."

Hopefully actual playsets based on the movies release soon, but with our luck, it'll be a $420.69 USC-level build of something mundane that no one wants and thus kills the demand.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A bit disappointed. Balrog, Gandalf, and Aragorn look great, Arwen and Gollum look decent, but a bit simple and unpolished, while Frodo is Hideous.
Why did they make him big, why does he have reddish brown hair, and why in the world did they give him a buzz cut. Total waste of opportunity.
Why not have him and the other hobbits small with nice wavy/curly hair?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm a big fan of the Brickheadz series and the Lord of the Rings, but these are ugly. These are the worst Brickheadz Lego has done. Frodo should be tiny just like Gollum. Why did they choose those outfits for Aragorn & Arwen? Gandalf looks fine I guess, but I've seen better customs. The Balrog looks dumb. I'm sure we'll never get a Sauron Brickheadz, just like we never got a Minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bit let down by how they’ve chosen to represent Frodo’s magnificent curls. And why is Arwen’s body a solid block of lime, could they really not put any printing there?

Gravatar
By in United States,

"So it begins."

Gandalf and the Balrog look pretty good! Frodo looks good except for his hair. Although I don't know how they would do his curly hair... Aragorn looks fantastic, but Arwen needed printing. I don't buy brickheadz though so it's kind of irrelevant.

Also, are we going to talk about the pricing? Frodo and Gollum have to be $15, right? Right?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Brickalili said:

Arwen doesn't seem to impressed with her choice of groom. :0

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gollum looks very small

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m not into Brickheadz, but all of these are instant buys. Frodo’s hair is definitely lacking both in color and shape and Aragorn’s hair should also be darker. But aside from that they all look as good as any Brickheadz can. I’ll gladly buy them to send the message that we want more LOTR!!! And hopefully an actual theme could happen after these and the D2C

Gravatar
By in United States,

Still don't get these... that said, Gollum is way off. Shouldn't he be the same size as Frodo? And I know Brickheadz isn't the best format for a character who's habitually hunched over, but surely they could have somehow captured that? Anyway, here's hoping these are just the prelude to a return of the theme for real.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Waited all this time for more LoTR sets and this is what they give us :( All I can hope for is that these sell really well and convince Lego to bring out more minifigure sets

Gravatar
By in Italy,

After this news, I'm starting to feel 2023 are could be a better year than 2022!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just watched Fellowship of the Ring yesterday, so the movie is fresh in my mind. The balrog's horns are way too big.

If they make more LotR Brickheadz pairs, I would like to see Gimli & Legolas, and Saruman & Uruk Hai.

Gravatar

It's been 20 years. Why does Lego still think Gandalf's hat is grey?

Looking at image search results for "Gandalf the Grey", his hat appears to be grey, despite the book saying it's blue; l think we have to concede that here we're dealing with film-Gandalf.

(Gandalf the White doesn't have a hat, so is not a wizard because, as we know, hat = wizard. Or wizzard, if you prefer.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gollum / Smeagol is a hobbit too, he should be the same size as Frodo.

Also need dark tan 1x1 plates behind Gollum's eyes to help give that emaciated sunken socket look.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I wish I was at the meeting when they were deciding which version of Aragorn to feature as a brickhead set. “Guys next up, Aragorn. Should we do the cool and mysterious ranger version of Aragorn or the epic version of Aragorn who after delivering one of the most uplifting war speech decides to storm towards the enemy orc alone?” “Wait I got a better idea. Let’s do the one where he sings in front of everyone after the battle is won.” “Done”

It was blue in the movies, albeit so faded that it could sometimes appear a little grey-ish in poor light. But definitely blue. You could get away with sand blue pieces if the other colours seem too strong.

@imemine98:
Here’s what so came up with. Frodo’s legs are three plates. Torso looks to be seven. Face is four studs, which equals ten plates. Then there are two plates of hair. So, 20 plates shorn, 22 if he’s scared. I’m not even going to try to figure out Gandalf with that hat, and Aragorn’s a bit tricky compared to Frodo. I’m seeing seven plates and two studs (12 plates combined) for legs and torso. Head is 2.5 plates and three studs (10 plates combined) from beard to crown, plus two plates for the hair. So basically two plates taller than Frodo. And the little guy looks to come in at 16.5 plates. Assuming Arwen has feet that are one plate, she’s 14 plates to the neck, and 26 when you add the head and hair (must be wearing heels, since Liv is actually one inch shorter than Viggo). The big guy looks like he’s 14 plates to that red line below his chin, four studs (ten plates) for the face, and seven more for the, uh, Michael Jackson ‘do. I’m not sure if the chin is one plate or half a plate, though, so 32 tops? And okay, fine, I’ll give Gandalf a go (though he’s mounted crooked on his legs, which makes figuring out his dimensions tricky), alright? I’m coming up with 16 plates for the body, and four studs for the face. If we assume two plates as usual for hair, that puts him two plates taller than Arwen. Probably 2.5 plates taller on his left. Is he drunk? He looks like he’s about to fall over.

@Bobsy:
They got the film license, not the book license. Film shows it grey, so that’s what they have to work with. And character likenesses usually need to be approved, so good luck slipping a blue hat through the door.

@bananaworld:
Wizzard? No thanks. I’ve seen the video of their Christmas song, and all I can say is Merry Christmas to all the therapists whose vacation homes and yachts are being funded by the kids who were cast.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Bobsy:
I had to look up pictures after reading your comment. Certainly every toy based on him seems to have used the same shade of grey for hat and robe, and they all cleared whatever approval process was required of them. Film stills do show that it’s a different color, but even sand-blue seems way too strong for how faintly blue it is under the best lighting conditions. A more accurate depiction, although one we’ll never see through official sources, would be dark-grey robes with a dark-bley hat, which might still be more of a difference than we see in the films. The meager difference between light-grey and light-bley might be more accurate, but the shades are much too light for film-Gandalf’s outfit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

BrickHeadz are a neat idea, but give me actual LEGO minifigures and sets of Lord of The Rings or the television series The Rings of Power.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I hope that Funko... I mean BrickHeadz' fans make this product successful, so we can enjoy new regular LotR sets again.

Gravatar

At last we can have the original Lego Dimensions crew as brickheadz together! 41585 41635 and now 40631!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I am so disappointed... hearing about new set, looking forward to them, happy about low set prices and now this. I should have guess it was these indifferent figures.

Now there is one overpriced set left to hope for...

Don’t you mean “Fly, you fools!” Either way, the epic name is probably best saved for a minifigure set depicted their face-off.

@Lego34s Gimli’s got to be paired with Legolas. Boromir with Merry and Pippin might be good. As for Sam, if he’s not with Frodo or Gollum then Ranger Aragorn or Shelob seem like good options. Though the thought of a BrickHeadz Shelob is shudder-worthy…

Funnily enough, you're both correct: the original cinema release was modernised to "run", but they apparently reconsidered things for later releases and changed it to the book's "fly".

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Weird that Gandalf, Aragorn and Frodo all have the same sword. I would have given Frodo Sting, Aragorn the sword he had in the original sets and Gandalf the more recent longsword (as it looks more like his sword in the films than Aragorn's).

LOTR finally back after all these years and this is what we get. Great. Come on Lego give us some real sets. Hopefully these do well enough to get more LOTR sets but not well enough to get anymore stupid BrickHeadz... not entirely logical I know but whatever, Im a bit peeved right now. Im sure most BrickHeadz fans will get these, but not many LOTR fans will buy them. Awesome... just what we want. Rant over, sorry.

Well, a few dozen people may, at least (actually, I will probably be one of them!). Wyldstyle was notoriously rare. I never had a shot at Benny, because you had to register with Target _and_ get their credit card (apparently linking to your debit card caused too long a delay, and once you made that choice there was no going back).

@bananaworld:
I do not remember that at all. But the film is old enough to drink, after all, and I only watched it once in the theater (vs owning three copies on DVD).

@bemahan:
I mean...it had wings in the movie. I'm not sure why. It never used them onscreen, and lived underground.

Gravatar

I like these, for the most part. Yes, there is room for improvement with Frodo’s hair, and Gollum looks like he was designed by a generative AI, but on the whole, I’m happy with them.

Gravatar

Frodo is experiencing hair loss, someone get him some hair treatment!

Gravatar

True. I don't own Wyldstyle as a Brickhead either, but I just wanted to make my point that the Dimensions gang have now all been made into Brickheadz

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seeing Gollum alone, I wasn't impressed, but with Frodo by his side, it's brilliant. His body only 3 studs wide to Frodo's 4, he is a shrunken version of a Hobbit. Naked and holding his meal, he looks pitiful next to Frodo. Bravo. Truly.

Gravatar
