2023 set announcement recap
Posted by CapnRex101,
Over 150 sets have been revealed over the last few weeks and last Friday was particularly busy with announcements!

There are leaked images of a tie bomber, 501st specialist pack, and a slave 1 microfighter.
@bananaworld
My thoughts exactly. Where’s Star Wars?
We’re also due an announcement I would presume for the new modular - I can’t remember it being this late before.

We were just discussing this over in the Forum. Tomorrow would be the latest official announcement in recent memory.
Official announcement dates for the last five buildings:
- Boutique Hotel: December 6th 2021
- Police Station: November 27th 2020
- Bookshop: December 6th 2019
- Corner Garage: December 3rd 2018
- Downtown Diner: November 29th 2017
Black Elsa hair! I love seeing CMF exclusives getting recolored.
I always find it entertaining when stores put sets out that Lego hasn't even revealed yet...

Wow, that's a lot of great looking sets!
The Technic Bugatti and SC Skyline are my favourites, but Friends, Minecraft and Creator also have really strong sets coming.
Looking forward the most to the rest of the Speed Champions lineup :)

I don’t get why they don’t just reveal the Star Wars stuff sooner. The Star Wars stuff almost always gets leaked before Lego officially announces. Especially when they are already starting to ship sets to retailers. Good luck controlling all your retailers from leaking them early.
Saw some new ones...
75345 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack
75347 TIE-Bomber
75344 Boba Fett's Starship (SLAVE I) Microfighter
A new Minecraft polybag, a mini X-Wing polybag, an Australia postcard build,
30649 NinjaGo Ice Dragon Creature polybag (very cool little dragon 2in1 to a robot).
30648 Duplo cute 3in1 whale polybag.
A train poly and an old town car polybag too.
Don't know if these are in your database yet?
I am truly amazed to see the repurposing of the Cactus Girl torso ( 71021-11 ) in 60369 for K-9 training. That's brilliant!
Oh, and another, a Games polybag with a minifigure with a purple(?) Shark costume head.

I think it is usually only revealed late - well into December. Lego is getting good at preventing leaks as well.

The pirate captain minifig, introduced decades ago, at least has a hook for a hand, and a peg-leg (and an eyepatch). But these minidolls aren't swashbuckling pirates, and IMO there is nothing appealing about this. TLG could have giving the amputee a prosthetic arm/hand.

How do you cope out in the real world where real people have these real differences...?
Hopefully children who are introduced to differences between people will not grow up to "not like" anything which isn't the same as them.
Sets that have yet to be revealed:
-Star Wars
-Harry Potter
-2023 modular building
-DC Super Heroes (unlikely)
-Remainder of Speed Champions
-Indiana Jones
-$500 LoTR set
-Possible Games theme...?
Am I missing any?
What I'm looking forward to that have pictures on the database:
31133 White Rabbit
60383 Electric Sports Car
60385 Construction Digger
60386 Recycling Truck
60390 Part Tractor
60494 ATV and Otter Habitat
OTTERS!!!!!!!!

Without a doubt 31143
Anything Lego Birds is a win, but this just blew us away. Almost cried the first time I saw it, and it just gets better every time I see it. Usually not in a rush for Creator sets, but this is a day one purchase, or hopefully sooner. There's a toy store here that usually gets new year sets out just before Christmas. Scoring this early would make our holiday.
I’m calling bull on Marvel mechs being $15 while Brick Headz are still $10.
Star Wars! Star Wars! STAR WARS!!!!!!

If the rumours of the SC line are correct, it's a REALLY strong wave.

Curious to know when the next modular will be revealed, and what sort of architectural style they chose for it!
I would love it to be a grocery store with one or two apartments/flats on top.

Oh yes, definitely, I've been following the rumours for every wave on Eurobricks as much as possible. The list included on the R34 reveal on Promobricks is mouthwatering, will most likely be getting the full wave again. I love this theme.

What word would you suggest instead of: 'disfigurements' of which the definition is: to spoil the beauty of; deform; deface. An appropriately chosen term with regard to said medical/pathological/anatomical conditions.
I mean what I say, so I say what I mean, it's called being honest, and I did so in a civil manner. Censorship does not change that. Why or how is that awful?
I’m relieved that some of my favourites such as the Series 24 CMFs and 60394 ATV & Otters are among the least expensive.

I WISH, but from the look of the polybag that leaked, I think it's going to be more of a sports theme rather than board games.

It's not about "censorship", it's about recognizing the harm in both the words you choose and the message they carry.
Regardless of your intent, your comment seemed to imply that mini-dolls with those fairly common, real-world conditions were ugly or had no place in your envisioned Lego world. That's uncomfortably close to a lot of real-world stigma against disability—that people who look different or don't conform to conventional beauty standards are something to be pitied, scorned, or hidden away, rather than people just like you or me who can live fulfilling lives. And your comparison to pirate characters reflects the not-uncommon media trope of people with disabilities being portrayed exclusively as villains or as fantastical or historical oddities, rather than just regular people who continue to exist in all walks of life in the modern day.
Did you know that Autumn, the new main Friends character with a limb difference, was introduced partly due to feedback from a young girl who had a similar condition? This sort of representation is not being pursued merely as part of some abstract "agenda"—there are real kids who can benefit from these sorts of characters. Judging by your comment, there are adults who could stand to learn something as well.
I'm not asking you to "censor" your opinion and go on thinking that sort of thing in private. I'm asking you to do a little introspection and consider just who these are for, and why normalizing non-life-threatening conditions like vitiligo or a missing limb can make such a difference for both disabled kids (having toys that reflect their condition) and for abled kids (learning to recognize the shared humanity even with people who look different than they do).
I'm most excited for the things yet to be revealed. Whatever the next UCS is, the rest of the Speed Champions line, and whatever non-Brickheadz LotR is on the way. Aside from those, I'm looking forward to a few of the approved Ideas sets.
Thank you @Lyichir , @shedjed and @bananaworld for calling this out. I can’t believe more people here haven’t challenged this. Dehumanisation like this has lead to some of the greatest tragedies in the world. Don’t repeat them.
Is 11031 the Homemaker reboot we've all been waiting for?
I see @TheBigLegoski 's original distasteful comment has been removed. I will leave those that quote it, as they rightfully call out his unacceptable attitude, and ask that he refrains from posting any more diatribe on the subject.

That's some great sleuthing you did there. You're a regular Ace Brickman!
Maybe all the Friends animals are escapees from a cosmetics company's animal testing lab?
I've read this a couple times and still can't find why this guy's post got deleted.
- He gave a compliment that the Friends grocery store looks good.
- He voiced that the Friends sets are interesting to mod and incorporate into a City setting.
- He prefers the figures or minidolls to not be disabled or scarred. Just his opinion about a toy. It doesn't appeal to him. He can't voice an opinion on a toy? His own preference.
- He saying a disfigurement about a plastic doll, not a real life person.
- He prefers the Pirate type figures that have a hook for a hand or peg-leg. He seems to prefer the disabled characters to have some prosthetic with a function. Just seems to be his preference.
Couldn't he voice these opinions on say a Lego survey or would Lego delete his survey?
He said nothing disrespectful about anyone from what I read in his post below.
He's just stating what he like and doesn't like in a toy.
Unless he said something else and personally insulted someone (I only read the below), I can't see why it got deleted.

Looking forward for the rest of 3-in-1, but this year's rabbit and birdhouse already look nice and have awesome creative alternate builds, so that's already 6 awesome builds out of 2 3-in-1 sets.
None of those builds look like the "lesser" build with leftover bits, but there's actually thought put to the parts selection, like the beehive honey transparent yellow bricks are hidden somewhere in the main build (since the main build uses all parts)

Exactly, LEGO's been fine with making sets based on cultures and traditions, such as the many Chinese Festival sets, and they're also not opposed to representing political views, so I don't see how religion-based sets are off the table.
I'm w/ @Clutch_P :
-DC Superheroes (Even just some MECH to counter 'Morbids'; a Superman, a Wonder Woman, a [Kyle Rayner] Green Lantern ['cuz it fits/works], and HOW ABOUT DC CMF2)
Also:
-D&D: but that's pending review...it's irony though: TLG has NOOOOOO PROB putting this along side LotR; buuuuuuut 'Morbid' and DC...:(
I am so excited for friends.
Also we had no new info of Dreamerzzz yet.
I believe Friends will be big bang theme for this part of year.

Because reducing someone's religion to a toy can be offensive, and if they do some religions then why not all?"
Hmmmm that's actually a really good point, I never thought of it like that. That's honestly a pretty valid reason imo.
When will we get new Burton's Batmobile?!! 76221
Minifig scale, Speed Champions style.
We got backhoe in smaller set after years, what is great, but it would be even greater to have it in Creator line as dumper with trailer and backhoe on it.
What I don't understand when it comes to the embargo on religious sets, is why the Taj Mahal escapes that rule. A tomb is a religious monument in my view.
I'm surprised that we're not getting any Pocahontas sets for the Disney line. Pocahontas is the only official Disney Princess who doesn't have any Lego sets. Why is that I ask?

Totally agree.
Our younger daughter also has such a skin condition (vitiligo), and she would be thrilled to have a minifig or minidoll that represents her, because it would show her once more that it's nothing to be ashamed of or sad about.
Remember, everyone is awesome!

Is there an embargo? Have TLG stated that? They released 21058 (religious, in your view) and 21026 is centred on a religious building. Hell, 80039 is literally "Heavenly"!
The trouble TLG have with doing religious sets is one of all-or-nothing. If they do a (miscellaneous religious building) people who worship in (another miscellaneous religious building) will carp on about their M.R.B. not being represented. There are hundreds of religions, loads of which have adherents who think that worshipping in the "wrong" M.R.B. is sacrilegious; these sort of people will get, at the very least, huffy if TLG puts out the "wrong" M.R.B.

Other people say there is an embargo, not me. And there are pilgrimages made to tombs, not just saintly ones, that's why I count them as religious.

NEWS FLASH: LEGO has already produced a whole series of religious sets that contain Santa Claus, who was a historically Christian authority.
Getting a LEGO nativity set would be brilliant! I agree reducing someone's religion to a toy can be offensive, but if you’ve ever been to a Christian book store of any denomination, you’ll see all kinds of toys based on Bible stories: games, dolls, action figures, wooden characterizations, etc. A nativity scene made of LEGO minifigures and animals would be no different than many other nativity sets that are made specifically for and marketed to children.

I've always seen Lego's stance on it as a wonder of the world akin to the Pyramids, Great Wall, etc.
The birdhouse 3-in-1 is my top pick for 2023 so far. I'm a fan of 3-in-1 in general, and that one's a cut above for its main build just as a standard model.

Though, there is something that totally baffles me, and that is those new minidolls. One is an amputee, and one of the others has a skin disorder. I don't like it. I rather have minifigs and/or minidolls without any such disfigurements.

"
I'm ok with Lego giving us the difference in people. But why can't the Lego Group give us a church or nativity scene? "
Exactly, LEGO's been fine with making sets based on cultures and traditions, such as the many Chinese Festival sets, and they're also not opposed to representing political views, so I don't see how religion-based sets are off the table."
a proper hijab piece would be cool, instead of relying on the keffiyeh or jawa hoods

"Sets that have yet to be revealed:
-Star Wars
-Harry Potter
-2023 modular building
-DC Super Heroes (unlikely)
-Remainder of Speed Champions
-Indiana Jones
-$500 LoTR set
-Possible Games theme...?
Am I missing any?"
I'm pretty sure some of those are March releases though..."
Hmmmm... actually yeah, I think that's true for Indiana Jones and the Games theme, but I'm pretty sure the rest are January releases."
Another citation of Games? Is this a revival of the LEGO Games theme from a decade or so ago, that gave us Creationary and the LEGO die element and microfigures and all that??"
Video games, to my knowledge.
