What is your favourite set of 2022, costing less than $40?
Posted by CapnRex101,
Larger sets are often impressive and monopolise attention, although smaller and more affordable sets present different qualities. Some wonderful examples were available this year.
In fact, 262 sets were released costing less than $40 and many were discussed in the nomination article. The fourteen most popular suggestions appear in this poll, asking what is your favourite set of 2022, costing less than $40? Vote for up to three sets after the break...
(Select up to 3 options.)
Which set(s) received your vote? Let us know in the comments. The results will be published in the New Year.

From the available choices the DB5 is the best i.m.o. Love these end off year polls btw :)
Aston Martin for me
In the initial poll I was suggesting 60322 Race Car: although the set is 4+ you get 2 minifigs for less than 10 €/£/$, the build is fun with less than 50 bricks. Initially I tried to build it without instructions, just following the box image, almost succeeded… :-) It’s also regularly on sale on Amazon, you should pick it up for fun
In it’s absence my vote goes for DB5
Would have been the DB5 but for the awful colour matching of the stickers, so the Mercedes-AMG pair get my vote.
Speed Champions will win.
Wait Dark Trooper Attack is here? Nah.
Wow, this is such a disappointing selection. They're not all awful by any means, but you should be able to get much more than any of these for £40

Yes, for many of the selection you can buy two sets for £40.
I appreciate the option to vote for multiple sets, very helpful given the wide range of price points represented in the options.
It is a shame that we still glamorise cars. It'll be many years before we can claim to live in a modern world.
Where Luigi at?
60326 , 75333 and 75342 for me. Gargantos would maybe jump into one of the spots if not for the questionable building technique. Countach lost the spot because of the abysmal color matching, too.
I voted for the dolphin & turtle set. Made a great gift to someone who has never played with Lego before.
The Lambo is somehow the only thing on the list I actually have, thought Mobile Crane is one I've considered enough that seeing it there makes me lean toward picking it up.

Same here. The F1 is awesome.
Lamborghini Countach then Aston Martin DB5 and Mercedes-AMG pair.
Bathtub stunt bike for the win!
Lamborghini set is really good
Gargantos is a really cool build with a lot of unique pieces in olive green colour. A clear standout for me from this list.
I'll take a Martin... Aston Martin. Shaken, not stirred.
I voted Bathtub bike (it's too meme worthy to not mention!) and the Aston Martin DB5... although I put a Sean Connery fig in mine. You just can't beat the classics!
Speed Champions has become LEGO's line with the best value (cost, quality, playability, looks). And I'm not even a car guy.
Voted for drk troopers and the countach.
But only because the city farm vn is not on the list. I mean it has corn pieces. Who doesn't love corn in any shape or form?
My favorite is 31128. So cute and fun to build. A perfect little LEGO set for all ages.
The Countach and DB5 are also great builds, but for one they are only display models, plus I much prefer animals to cars in real life, so there you go.
Not at all surprised about the Speed Champions. I fully expect one or two of them to be in the top 3.
Personally, I love the Countach, but I do understand the love for the Mercs with the only 8-wide F1 car so far.
I went with the squirrel battle pack as that would be the one I would buy from all listed items.
I've been thinking about buying this year's Speed Champions Ferrari since these end of the year contests started.
Zane's Golden Dragon Jet for the win. Great minifigures and a fun play feature.
This is the toughest vote this year

Agreed. What really won me over was being able to attach minifigs to its tentacles. That makes for a very fun, dynamic way to display the set and some of my favorite Marvel figs.
My vote is still the Mercedes double pack
Thanks for three choices. Was worried I had to pick between them...

Damn.... I'm sure that happened in 1977!
Only noticed I could pick up to three after I voted... oof.
Well, my sole vote went to the Mercedes pair. Speed Champions sets are amazing and almost always a great deal, but this one especially is EVEN better. Two cars for less than you would pay for two separate ones. Also, the AMG ONE has such an amazing build with so many clever techniques. Same for the F1, easliy the best in minifig scale to date.
My other two votes would go the the Lamborghini and the DB5. Speed Champions really needs to take this trophy.

You mean like how we stopped glamorizing times in the past noted for their brutality and horror? Like Medieval times and the golden age of piracy?
Totally possible to glamorize things while moving forward technologically and socially.
I was going to vote for the one that I owned then realized I had none of these! I must not be buying LEGO like I used to!
Aston Martin DB5, Lamborghini Countach, Obi-Wan's Starfighter
Picnic & Zane's Golden Dragon Jet would be my picks.
I have never been a big fan of LEGO cars (especially not attempts at capturing the appearance of real ones in LEGO form), and nothing released in 2022 came close to changing that.
Unfortunately, I can's select Aston Martin in good conscience due to those abysmal color-matched stickers.

Plus, it does not mean one glamorizes cars just because one acknowledges that the Speed Champions theme regularly produces great little LEGO sets.
Star Wars sets and James Bond's car for sure!
When I think of 'best set' I think of value for that money. Actually I would say the Mercedes two pack of cars for 34.99 is a pretty good deal.
Went too fast and did not read properly so I only voted for one item. Of that list, I believe I only own 60324 and 60326. My vote went for 60324. Looks like this segment will go to Speed Champions and its fair. Not something I collect but the models this year were very nice and tempting.
As I said on a previous post, this set (60324) has more functions than many Technic sets. In fact, (1) raising the boom on this set IS a Technic function: it uses gears and a linear actuator. Then you get: (2) boom extension(manual), (3) cable, (4) outrigger extension(manual), (5) outrigger lifting(manual). All this in a very compact format and looking reasonably good.
I'm a bit surprised the Gargantos Showdown isn't eliminated because of its illegal building technique.
It had to be the Aston Martin as my first choice.
The Dolphin and turtle and Picnic in the park were cute runner ups.
It has to be the DB5. The model is pretty detailed, a fun build, a reasonable $20 compared to the similar-sized $25 speed champion sets, and the Daniel Craig minifig is excellent. I also very much appreciate the extra liscence plates and secret gun/binoculars pieces that they added.
I voted for 60324, 60326, and 75333 but 60326 Picnic in the Park is my favorite under $40 set of the year.

You are shaming people for ... liking toys?
I went for 75342 Republic fighter tank because of the unique phase 2 clones and arm printing for Mace Windu. However, my real favourite Lego set in that price range for this year would be 76831 Zurg battle

A Modern world, Full of plastic toys?????
I voted the Aston Martin, the Dark Trooper Attack and Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter (:
Happy to give it to either of the single Speed Champions. I voted Lambo myself.
As an aside, given the perennial colour matching issues, why don't Lego use transparent stickers more often?

What are you on about mate? Thank God we still glamorize cars!
But anyways, Countach wins easy here.

Im not sure I agree with the use of perennial, but I have to say, the color matching on the Aston Martin was atrocious! Luckily you dont miss out on much if you leave them off.
Clearly the Aston Martin
The mobile crane for me. The very moment I saw some photos I knew I have to get it.
The Lambo Countach!! Fantastic build, looks great, (the windshield coloring looks fine). Building a custom LEGO showroom garage to display/protect it.
My second and third choice were the mobile crane, nice looking for a crane, neat functions too, and the bathtub bike, it makes me smile.
Got to be the DB5. It's an incredible display piece, given the scale. It arguably looks more like a real DB5 than the larger one. That said, the other two Speed Champions sets are both excellent as well (although the colour matching on the Lambo's windscreen is appalling). The 60324 Crane is also an excellent set, although it's clearly overpriced at present.
Super Robot
I think it's easy to argue Friends had the best waves this year of any theme so it's disappointing to see none of those sets on either ballot
