Chinese Traditional Festival sets now available
Posted by Huw,
After a false start at Christmas (*) the two superb Chinese Traditional Festival sets, 80110 Lunar New Year Display and 80111 Lunar New Year Parade, are now available at LEGO.com.
Additionally, 40580 Blacktron Cruiser is still available until this Saturday so if you buy the pair and add something else small to your cart you'll receive that as a gift with purchase along with 40605 Lunar New Year VIP Add-On Pack.
(*) The sets were put on the shelves of brand stores in the UK on the 27th then removed a few days later, apparently.

Yes, that was really weird: I had 80111 in hands on 30 December in the Brussels store… This whole thing discouraged me to try and reach the €190 threshold when I went to buy the new Collectable Minifigures last week… (but at least I got 40605).
Time to start frantically refreshing Pick a Brick to see when those purple helmets and air tanks appear.

I ordered all the LNY sets on Christmas Day and they arrived end of December. I think Europe and having VIP access allowed us to get the sets earlier? With my order I hit a couple thresholds so I got the Fun and Funky VIP add-on pack and (another) fleece blanket. :)
However I did place another order Jan 1 (for the Jazz Club) and got the LNY VIP add-on and the Blacktron Cruiser, so I think I'm set now.
Finally the one I ordered on 1 Jan has moved from In Process to In Warehouse :)
I managed to get 80111 New Year Parade at Lego.com on Boxing Day, in hand before year-end 2021. Needed to put in an order to redeem some vouchers before they expired and was glad this was available for a short period.

According to the folks at New Elementary you'll be frantically refreshing for quite a while.

"However, as well as the fact PaB is pretty much closed right now, LEGO also take a minimum of 3 months to add new elements to Pick a Brick, so none of these elements will be available yet. We will remind you when they are appearing!"
Yet the Rabbit GWP isn't yet available. Seriously Lego?!?

This seems to make you "a rabbit of negative euphoria" ;-)
Availability seems to be very disorganised and confusing
I wonder whether the purple air tanks and helmet will end up in bulk in a Bricklink store some time in the coming months.
Some interesting pieces, but not a series of sets that I have any interest in.

I'm not sure I understand why you are equating Lunar New Year with your "local takeaway" -- care to elaborate? Is that something you'd say for a different theme?
My order has finally been processed. Hopefully they won't change their mind for a 3rd time at Lego.com before it dispatchers!
I did enquire if they were offering any compensation for their unprofessional messing about, but no reply yet, so I'm not holding my breath!
Rabbit is rumoured to be available from 15th-25th (£80 threshold) and the current VIP Lunar add-on pack is also due to end on 25th.
The new Feb 1st Botanical sets are now available to pre-order, which might be useful GWP threshold wise.

Well put, I will just throw out there as a public service, the last several orders I have made at shop at home were ridiculous, going all the way back to March. I have had gwps canceled because stuff sits in the warehouse too long. I can also report that twice I called to check on an order that was "in process" for over a week, was both times told it would take another week. However magically after both calls the item was shipped the next morning.
I ordered 80110 and 40648 on 26th Dec and received both of them before I saw the availability was pushed back to the 10th Jan.
That delivery went smoothly, unlike the Jazz club, which i could not track until I complained, then was out for delivery from 11.40am Saturday- 8.25am Sunday, with no notification of delivery slot.

I'm going to guess it's a Chinese takeaway

@kongutahu:
I was going based on how long it took the squirrels to return, but then they followed them up almost immediately with parts that didn’t come out until a few months after the squirrels had. I think it’s safe to say there’s no fixed schedule for when elements show up on PAB.
@Padmewan:
“Takeaway” is British for “takeout”, so probably referring to a local Chinese restaurant.
@DoonsterBuildsLego:
Consensus seems to be that it’s 2023 now. There are still a few dissenters, though.

I saw @Padmewan 's comment and thought well it'll be a Chinese takeaway so they might be particularly interested in these for their counter come CNY. Now I'm wondering what the comment from @LegoBoi69 can be construed as meaning in the US?

The best thing is for @LegoBoi69 to elaborate on his comment. Just because you were not offended does not mean others (e.g. @Padmewan) shouldn't be. Personally I find his comment a bit insensitive.

I don't know what the fuss is about.
Lots of takeaways (I know the term because I've been to the UK so often, but we also have such restaurants here in Germany) are filled to the brim with decorative Asian items (not just the infamous waving cats), so I guess @LegoBoi69 thought sets like this one might appeal to the owners of his local takeaway restaurant as another decoration. Nothing insensitive about his comment at all imho.
Where’s the problem?
Are those stickers on the 2x2 round tiles that make oversized Lego studs?
Edit: I just checked the instructions. Stickers they are.
Why no diversity in these type of sets? All the figures always look traditionally Chinese.
@Huw perhaps there should be a survey asking if you are most excited about the sets or the purple helmets and air tanks.

Interesting sets. Unfortunately pricing in the USA has reached Looney Tunes levels.

The last set I bought from LEGO had a missing piece. I jumped through the hoops to request a replacement and received an email in reply that essentially said “tough”. Lucky for me I’m a fan who knows that LEGO were allowed to buy up the largest secondary marketplace in the shape of Bricklink from where at my own expense I bought the replacement part. So I think your own experience could be part of a strategic decision by LEGO to avoid having to attend the annual customer service awards ceremonies.

I'm always surprised when I see people talking about how great LEGO's customer service is. In my experience it's actually pretty awful.

It USED to be fantastic. During the pandemic it went into the toilet. Since then, I think they realized how bad they dropped, and are beginning to try to correct it. However, I agree that it is still quite awful.
They very rarely will actually do anything to help- especially on the first call. Chat or email is completely worthless BTW. The only difference now is if you complain long enough they'll give you a bunch of VIP points.

Put in an order last night to get the CNY Parade and was emailed that it was cancelled for having bought too many of the Boba Fett microfighter (3 total in 2 separate purchases). Couldn’t call or email me to offer another item in order to maintain the Blacktron GWP threshold? Guess LEGO would rather lose my $190 so that Everyone has an opportunity to acquire a $10 set (which is still available BTW). Fortunately, I did get another one submitted.
Got 1600 VIP points (£10) compensation for the Lunar New Year Display being held hostage 'in process' from the 1st to the 10th Jan. So worth asking for anyone who had a similar delay!

Our research suggests that it may be due to the fact that the Chinese New Year and its distinctly Chinese aesthetics, traditions, and values originate from traditional Chinese culture, with its overwhelmingly vast majority of participants observing it in China or heavily-Chinese-populated areas as a celebration of their Chinese heritage and Chinese lineage. We will continue to provide updates on this hypothesis as further data is analyzed.
In other news, the pieces in these are so fantastic that my finger is hovering over the LEGO Shop cart button, and decisions may shortly be made.
Love all the parts from these sets. Just excellent.
Need two of each, one for parts one for display.
Bristol Store had them avaiable on Jan1st (before this date as well) then takne off sale a few days later.

Nice try. This is a Chinese traditional festival set, so why wouldn't the minifigures be dressed in traditional Chinese outfits?

If you mean black hair, there are several minifigs in this set without black hair. What do you mean, exactly?

Yes typical chinese hair colour is black and females sometimes has more brown shades. But Lego use to be great with diversity in western sets, with afro, blond and even blue hairpieces.
This is like releasing a traditional Swedish set with just blond figs.
I ordered 80111, the Parade on Dec the 25th and I had to wait until Jan the 10th to be sent. Pick a Brick is another mess. My order from Nov the 14th is still not delivered. Almost 2 months! I ordered before they held the service...
