Last chance for 40586 Moving Truck
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Today is the final day to qualify for 40586 Moving Truck, with the promotion ending at midnight on the LEGO Shop and in brand stores. There are plenty of new March releases to help cross the high threshold of £160 / $180 / €180!
You can find our review of this superb set, which makes an excellent companion to 10312 Jazz Club, here.

Is there anything known about the next GWP yet? Will they finally throw in the 40606 Spring VIP bag?
These GWP sets should become generally available say 6 months later.
I don't think these incentives to get you to buy more are morally correct. I would expect better from a responsible company.

40587 Easter Basket but only a rumor so far.
Would have been nice if we could get 40606 and 40586 in one purchace but sadly no damn.
I'm still tapped out from all the high thresholds toward the end of last year. Cute set, but I'll have to pass.

I see them more as a way to make us pay full price for sets we most likely could get cheaper on sale in other shops. I do not see anything morally wrong with that, it is up to you if you will pay full price for a set and get a GWP or get it cheaper somewhere else without the GWP. However with all the great GWP they have started coming out with lately I have decided not to go for them. Instead I plan on swapping the ones I do not need with someone I want (if I get desperate FOMO for one I may even buy it) and buy the sets on sale to save some money.

I don't see how giving a customer a free set as they spend more is in any way morally incorrect. It's the entitlement some feel to having a set without meeting the criteria which is morally dubious.
I'm already getting two of the moving trucks. Seems plenty to me :)

Indeed, people often need more than one removal van when moving ;-)
Somehow I didn't get it this time. Usually I end up with multiple copies. Hope to get it some day though.

Quite. I ended up with a rank of Vintage Taxis last year. A fleet of Moving Trucks isn't quite so appealing!

It's called Capitalism.
LEGO is a commercial, for-profit organisation. Not a charity.

I fully agree with this comment. I adore this set but frankly I won't be buying anything today.
It's a great little set, but I don't know why you keep wanting to associate with the Jazz Club?
It’s a bonus if you happen to want to spend a nice bit of money on their website. No need to look too deep into it.
Especially around Black Friday I ended up with several of the same GWP in the past.
Nowadays I just buy the GWP set via Bricklink or eBay if I am really interested in getting it. More often than not that's cheaper than buying some overpriced set at Shop At Home for RRP in order to qualify.

The piano and jukebox? I personally agree with you though in that it isn’t a real match.
It’s cute in its own way, but the proportions are weird to my eye - some nice techniques though.

The sticker on the packing box says "to jazz club".
^ That could mean anything. Typical Brickset. ;o)
@Tuzi:
Still waiting on Winter in NA…
@ra226:
I would have made an attempt, but we got LUG Day coming up, and the discount is more appealing.
@CCC:
They already do that, except it’s spend 100, get 5 free. And nobody complains about it being morally wrong that you need to actually spend the 100 to qualify for 5 free. The physical VIP Reward items, on the other hand…
@kfr:
Two Trucks & a Man? It’s funny if you live in Metro Detroit…
@Duq:
Technically they are both, but we mostly only deal with the former aspect.
@mkrey:
Did you read the sign that’s included? It’s all stuff that’s being delivered to the Jazz Club, from the looks of it.
@Huw:
The “J” that’s also a saxophone.

Good eye! I missed that detail.

Why do you capitalists always assume anyone who dares to question a company's decision expects charity? Please show the comment where someone asked for charity.
Personally I am against GWPs at all, however I think making them freely available later on is a good compromise. Also, I don't see how that is a bad thing for the company. You either have happy customers getting a free set, or happy customers buying lots of the sets they want (eg I would have bought a whole bunch of vintage taxis and moving trucks). It's a win-win situation.
$300 AU for a GWP is highway robbery. GWPs should go back to what they used to be. A nice little polybag you got for free when you spent a certain amount. No exclusive minifigs, no Classic sets or vintage vehicles all of which are highly sought after. These should be sold as regular sets. Just a cool Creator polybag that people appreciate as a gift. Nothing more, nothing less.
40583 is back

Personally I dislike pure capitalism but I accept most of the world is built on a capitalist economy. As a LEGO buyer if GWPs were only polybags I wouldn’t care about them and would only buy exclusive sets from LEGO during double point events, and non-exclusive sets when discounted by other retailers. However, because of the interesting and unique GWPs they do offer I spend £’000s with LEGO each year.
In your example, the GWP doesn’t cost AUD300. The set is free with AUD300 of LEGO sets. They need to incentivise purchases throughout the year and the current GWP programme clearly works.
