LEGO teases 2K driving video game
Posted by Huw,
Rumours about a LEGO driving game, developed by 2K Games, have been swirling for some time. It seems some proper information will emerge, finally, on March 23rd.
A teaser video for the game has been published on Twitter, which you can watch below...
We are not supposed to say anything ?? but tune in for March 23rd pic.twitter.com/i0NUiF3bqG

Any idea what platforms this might be on, and if it's going to have split screen (if on console?)
Lego Top Gear 2!!!
2K is not a very good publisher so I'm hoping they don't screw this up.

Besides Traveler's Tales, LEGO has not really been good at judging game developers. (Anyone remember NetDevil, who made Lego Universe? They even went outta business before the game shut down)
"... tune in for March 23rd."?
Are they saying "tune in on March 23rd"?
Lego Racers reboot? I'm cautiously excited.

Nope,
tune in now and just sit waiting for 2 days until it starts.
Hope they have some exciting build up planned for that time...
cautiosly optimistic
Given they just cancelled my fave which was Legacy Heroes Unboxed and Legos track record of other exceedingly short lived games I don't think I'll even bother.
Hoping for a game similar to Lego Racers.
The minifig at the end of the teaser is wearing the race suit from Race Car Guy from CMF series 18.
I've seen some leaked stuff and apparently it has no references to classic themes. Nothing of Space, Pirates, Castle or Adventurers. Hard to call it a Lego Racers reboot if it is the case.

Yes.
LEGO Racers 3 would be amazing.
If it were to happen, While I would love it to include the original themes and characters, I dont think that likely. (Though there was that big Redbeard the other week, so some people at LEGO still remember him)
could definitely see it made and work well with modern themes though (Ninjago instead of Adventurers for example)

2k has some great games under their belt. Mafia, Borderlands, Bioshock and Xcom series are all theirs.
Hopefully this will be a Borderlands and not a NBA2K69
I'd like to think of it as Speed champions meets Lego racers: you build your own vehicle, BL Studio-like, but depending on what you build and what parts you use, the vehicle properties change! But that's wichful thinking i guess (though unlocking pre-maded chassis(es?)/part packs should be doable).

Unless it’s mobile-only, I’d imagine XBox Series X/S, XBox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, and possibly PC. Mayyyybe a Mac port from the PC version, possibly slightly later.
Conceivably it could be only for the latest generation, so cutting out PS4 and XBox One, but I don’t see them doing that with the Switch for a LEGO game, and if not that then probably not those other two, either. That’s unless it *is* a mobile game, and hence only for Android and iOS or something, maybe even exclusive to Apple Arcade. But although there are AA-exclusive LEGO games, I don’t think they’d tease it as a major release like this for just one platform. I’m guessing console.
I, of course, don’t actually *know* anything; I’m just guessing for fun, so I can see in a couple days whether I’m right!
The real question, of course, is whether this will tie into the existing Speed Champions theme, or get new sets of its own, or just not have any corresponding physical brick…
Lego Racers with Emmet, Benny, Hidden side, Ninjago and Heartlake girls would be sick.
But if we will not get sets from game I already see it as a failure because most of kids will have no idea it exists

I say it comes with: Microsoft Windows, Play Station 2, and Game Boy Advance. Why? Because I *think* I see a Rocket Racer logo on the figure's jacket. RR last came out in 2001 with Racers 2, so naturally, it should come out on the same platforms as a throwback!
(If you read this in a serious manner and got excited, you are gonna be sad!)
2K Games?

Oh, FU-

Well, that's, uh, not so good, I think. Actually, judging by the quality of their games, I'm surprised they are still a float. I hope Lego knows what they're doing, but I doubt it.

Travelers Tales also went through some serious development hell with the Skywalker Saga.
2K is also infamous for loading their games with pay-to-win microtransactions - particularly with their sports games.
Firaxis has yet to make a bad game, and several of those are my favorite games of all time, and 2K publishes all of their games. Depends on the studio that made the game honestly.

I’d like to think a LEGO game, one one might reasonably expect to be targeted at least in part at children, won’t be full of microtransactions. But I guess we’ll see.

That was most unfortunate. LEGO Universe was so promising, and what little of it I got to play was very cool; I still miss it, and am sad it shuttered so soon.
Am still trying to amass the tags to play all of dimensions. (Wish there was a way to open them all up without being stung by every obscure character being classed as a collectors item). Cautiously optimistic though for a new racing game. TT have set the bar pretty high, so I hope 2K can reach it.
Certainly not the only "new" LEGO game for 2023, with the rumour of some appearance in Fortnite is still on, for Chapter 4 Season 4 (V26.00)
Could be something as small as a creative map, and some skins, from perhaps a map section in battle royale/battle pass.
Or nothing at all, it's a rumour.

Neither is TT Games, if the allegations are anything to go off of. Cautiously optimistic for this one, I get why people hate 2K but I also love XCOM so I’m somewhat divided. Hopefully they don’t turn this one into a LEGO casino (for real, even Overwatch has dropped loot boxes), if they do I can always go back to LEGO Racers on the PS1.

LEGO has shown willingness to implement micro transactions in their various mobile games.
Also, it’s very easy to implement these mechanics in games that are supposedly aimed at kids.
If it's a Mario kart like, I'm in!

You did the worst crime of all! Spelt Lego with an "s" at the end!

For a while I was wondering if they would ever make speed champions into a Mariokart style game, but I never expected it to actually get done! I hope that it would be a mix of various themes having vehicles like 70829, 70423, 71710, the car in 75968 and 21108, although I don't think so.
I am all for a Lego MarioKart-like game and hope it is on a device I own!

There is a Steam game called Brick Rigs that you should look into. I doubt LEGO will come close to scratching the surface of that game's vehicle building.
IF it isn't Lego Racers 3 in disguise, I'm not interested.
Lego really decided to work with the selling-gambling-to-children company huh. Though I guess the video game industry being the cesspit it is, they could've chosen worse, like Blizzard - oh wait.

2K is extremely fond of selling gambling to children. Its one of their main business models
Hmmm...2K is...'part of' Rockstar Games...GTA: Lego City???...Naaaaa, like that'd EVER happen...:D
Still: Lego Racers was fun 'back in the day', if they updated it...
Nice, I wonder what will come out of this project.
There’s no way it will be as good as the LEGO expansion in Forza Horizon.
why is it not called lego racers 3?
Boogity, boogity, boogity boys, it's lights out and away we go!

Um…what? Aside from the Midway Arcade gamer (who is just a placeholder minifig, as far as I’m aware), the 2016 Ghostbusters, and maybe Chima, all of the Dimensions minifigs are from IP that is, or was, extremely popular. Most of the minifigs from licensed IP were one-off designs, and a lot of them are “only instance” minifigs. But if you just want the little pucks, there were a lot of people who only wanted the minifigs (and maybe the parts), so there was a time when you could scoop up the pucks for a song. For instance, if you were looking for an Aquaman puck, I’ve got a few dozen that I’m not particularly interested in. Even if I keep enough to max out the portal with Aquamen, that’d still leave another 34 I don’t have any use for.
@ozbrickcreator:
Almost as bad as using “LEGO” as a noun in the first place (it’s an adjective). And technically, @Big_Jarv appears to have been trying to use it as a possessive referring to the company, not as a plural referring to the bricks.
