A second GWP for April has been revealed at LEGO.com. 40588 Flowerpot adds more varieties of plants in an attractive pot to the hugely popular botanical collection.

We'll let you know the spend threshold when we know it, but expect it to be high.

You'll find more pictures in the database.

That's the first time we've seen the balloon pieces in yellow. Odd for that to be in a gwp.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

INCREDIBLY disappointing. this would be such a nice set and could be priced better than the other botanicals at this size... but as a GWP chances are the threshold will be unreasonable given the size of this, and GWPs that are at all desireable often end up scalped...

Agree! As far as I know, the plant stem in reddish brown is also a new recolour. I'm not into botanical sets, but I may try to get this GWP for parts!

New trees coming up. Nice.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Shouldn't be too hard to hit the price point using botanicals :)

I'd bet that we'll see those pieces in those same colors in a regular set within a year. (Just because they're debuting here doesn't mean they'll be exclusive to this set.)

Love the design, kind of hate that it's another GWP. Why can't Lego just do these as regular sets?

Here we go again
wah wah this free thing isn't free enough wah wah

By in United States,

Now, I can really get around this GWP!

Mrs. StyleCounselor loves the plants. She also loved the recent GWP Easter Bucket. "Can I build that?... soooooo cute!"

Love the ol' school B-Set warning from @Huw
"expect it to be high."

We are ready!

By in Netherlands,

Another GWP.
It wouldn't feel so frequent if we at least could get an overview over a few months instead of getting the whole works for every single one.

At least this one isn't a homage to a classic set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Do we know if any more classic set reimaginings are coming? Holding off on Rivendell until a good GWP,
This is ok (prefer it to houses of the world, if both happened to be at the same time that could be tempting.), but not entirely what I would be looking for

Yes, you're right.

I've complained many, many, many times. I sooooooooo miss the old Lego store calendars (and free mini-builds, great customer service, prices, etc.).

Think all the children who would love give this to mother for Mother's Day. Now can't... Scrooge, strikes again, Ruining holidays sweat children...
IF Price to get is high.

By in Norway,

All those green eggs would be good for an "Alien" MOC.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Awesome! Been wanting a Hot Air Balloon that isn’t pink.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I wonder under which conditions the designer was forced to work on this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it, though I’d been kind of wondering whether there might be some Indiana Jones GWP for April since that’s when the new sets officially launch. Perhaps late June and/or early July, for the new movie’s release and/or Indy’s birthday?

Natural light and frequent watering

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is the GWP this year that might tempt me - there have been some nice ones but nothing that's been enough to get me to want to spend. (I'm quite glad of that really - that I'm picky and there's been that much variety of GWPs that I haven't wanted the others.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Binnekamp: Now that the ninetieth anniversary has come and gone, I don't think those homages (whether in the form of GWPs or retail sets like 10497) are going to be that frequent. Lego's well aware of how powerful nostalgia can be for AFOLs, so I don't expect them to go away completely, but in the absence of a major milestone to celebrate...

@J0rgen: Get it with an order that includes 10309 to really max out your hatchery.

Gravatar
By in United States,

i am not a fan of botanical, but i have a couple of sets i've been saving up for a good gwp so i might buy this for the pieces.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I really want this and Houses of the World 2 to be simultaneous, which of course means they won't be. I do have a few sets on the to-get list, so hopefully they will cover at least one of these.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I understand disappointment that it is a gift with purchase. What I don’t understand is people thinking it is a bad strategy for Lego to employ. Creating a set that people want creates an incentive for customers to spend more to get it. As a business, that is exactly what Lego wants.

Scalp candy

Gravatar
By in United States,

For everyone complaining about not being able to buy this … bricks and pieces is a thing you know. Not that many elements here and since most people want this for the parts not the set even more reason not to sweat forcing a purchase out.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Guessing most AFOLs would rather see the balloon parts in a steampunk airship?

Well, it is not free at all as you have to pay to get it. And you have to pay much! It's free for Brickset when they get it for review.

They can celebrate the whole decade leading up to the Age of Play ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks great. But I likely won't be able to get it. Money is too tight for GWP these days. Oh well, enjoy what you all can.

Exactly. My niece came home last weekend with a large Friends set and the Easter GWPs in tow. They impressed me so much, I ended up buying a Friends set to hold in reserve for my stepdaughter just so I could get the GWPs!

Now that B&P has been rolled into online PaB, it takes forever for new elements to show up.

Those yellow pieces to create the pot have never been released in yellow before. It's the color of those pieces that is new, not the mold.

Those wider "balloon" pieces have only appeared so far in white, bright pink, and dark pink. Yellow is a very nice addition.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Ridgeheart: What does being Dutch have to do with it?

@ambr: Oh yes, we need more steampunk Lego. Ninjago's Skybound subtheme was nice, even if that was more dieselpunk.

"pot" equals "drugs"
In Europe at least there's the cliché that the Dutch are quite fond of their "coffee shops" where you can legally buy all kinds of "good stuff". Plus the Netherlands used to have very lenient laws when it comes to drugs anyway.
From what I gathered they are trying to change that, but the cliché is still very popular.

"it is not free at all as you have to pay to get it. And you have to pay much!"

I could have bought a big set a couple weeks ago and gotten nothing with it, or I could buy a big set now and get the Easter Basket with it, or I could buy the same set sometime in April and receive this with it. I would be paying the same amount for the big set in each instance. I'm not paying anything extra for this. Therefore it is free. I'm being given a gift with my purchase of the big set at a particular time. Lego is providing a bonus incentive for me to buy the big set from them instead of a different retailer, and will be doing so at a time when there are not a ton of new items. Lego knows a lot of people will make day one (particularly January 1) purchases so there is no need for big promotions then. I am being rewarded for making my purchase during a particular time period.

How is this so hard for people to understand?

Bought the new modular day one instead of waiting a few weeks for the [both] complementary and complimentary set? Already bought everything else on your wishlist? Too bad, buy something else if you want the bonus. Be patient and build a wishlist in anticipation of a promotion that particularly piques your interest.

By in United Kingdom,

Really good set, although I'm not really seeing a flowerpot, more a vase or a tub. Not a residence for Bill & Ben!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

No chance I'll be able to hit the threshold for something like this in Australia, but I'll have to pick it up from Bricklink

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love the Botanical sets, so I guess I have an excuse to get a larger set or two.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why can't LEGO also have the option to do a limited release for these sets? My girlfriend loves this one, but I don't have 100+ dollars to spend right now to get a "free" set that would otherwise be 30.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh damn Bois! LEGO getting clever. …It’s about time we get a botanical GWP.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@FuddRuckus : while I agree that GWP sets are indeed absolutely free, since you get them in addition to what you buy anyway, I would only buy a set at RRP from LEGO themselves if the GWP was extraordinarily attractive to me. Which is extremely rarely the case imho.
And even then I nowadays just don't have so many sets I would want to buy, so I would rather buy the GWP on Bricklink or eBay later. Most often GWPs are available for very reasonable prices there.

We fight that same 'cliche' in Colorado as well. ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@AustinPowers: I buy sets directly from Lego not just for GWPs, but for the VIP pints, as well. Even if no VIP rewards I want come along, I can still get discounts on future purchases.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@TheOtherMike: but that only makes sense for exclusive sets that aren't available elsewhere, since VIP points only mean about ten percent discount, which is far less than what you get for the majority of sets elsewhere.

Simple example: say you buy a 100 Euro set at RRP from LEGO themselves and you earn VIP points worth 10 Euro (off another purchase in future no less, meaning you have to buy another set at RRP then, minus VIP point discount earned before). You might get a smallish GWP with your 100 Euro too, worth 20 Euro at best on Bricklink or eBay.

Or you buy that same 100 Euro set from the likes of Amazon for somewhere between 60 and 70 Euro, get the GWP for 20 Euro on the aftermarket, and have already saved more than if you bought from LEGO directly.

Buying from LEGO themselves only makes sense under very special circumstances:

a) the set is an exclusive
b) there's double VIP points
c) one or several enticing GWPs are included
d) preferably the set is available at a discount to begin with

I bought the Ideas football table for a friend when it was discounted heavily recently, and all the above conditions applied.
The set (exclusive) was 40% off, there was double VIP points, and I got both the Blacktron retro ship as well as the winter accessories polybag.
