An upcoming promotional item, almost certainly produced for May the Fourth, has been revealed on LEGO.com.

5007840 Return of the Jedi 40th Collectable contains a Death Star II coin, seemingly packaged in a cushioned box, similar to 5006363 Han Solo Carbonite Metal Keychain and 5007403 The Mandalorian Beskar Keychain.

No information about the purchase threshold is available currently, but the Beskar keychain required a £70, $70 or €70 spend last year. We will share more information when we have it.

LEGO needs to stick to LEGO.
Nobody (or at least, next to nobody) cares about tat.
Give us a polybag, a minifigure, a discount, bonus VIP points etc.

By in Spain,

meh... fans want bricks and figs, no coins.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That looks like really cheap packaging. At least the Carbonite and Beskar keyrings were in what flet like premium packaging - sturdy box and dense foam cut to shape. The coin on the other hand looks to be in a really flimsy box and a vacuum formed plastic.

It's been revealed! Finally!

Now I can sleep at night.

I like the collectables that lego keeps on coming out with, like the Logo coins for VIP.

By in Australia,

5007840 is yet another non-buildable trinket! Swim lane LEGO, swim lane. Stick with the Automatic Binding Bricks concept you began those many decades ago.

By in Ireland,

Are these coins legal tender anywhere? Could i use it to buy LEGO somewhere?

Personally, I appreciate LEGO producing some promos which aren’t made of bricks. As a general Star Wars collector, not just SW LEGO, this is a nice collectible.

My main frustration with the article is the pains they take to not say it is definitely for the May the 4th event. It is obviously for that. What else could it be for?

The title is 'May the Fourth promotional coin revealed', so I am not sure what else I needed to say.

This will obviously be available at some point during the May the Fourth promotional period, but I cannot say for certain whether it will be across the whole weekend, only for one day or even tied to purchasing a specific set.

Unfortunately you're not allowed to. The knowledgeable folks in the comments club have already told you that nobody wants them (presumably as a result of extensive research). The 4020 members that own the last keychain obviously just weren't paying attention.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The previous VIP collector coins seemed to be very popular, so it makes sense for them to do one for the most prolific licensed theme. I prefer this over a cheap polybag.

I've got loads of Star Wars polybags and would gladly swap unwanted coins for SW polys.

By in United Kingdom,

I think it's neat. The reverse side of the card is made to look like the data card with the Death Star plans on from ANH/Rogue One. There's also a brick built GWP that's been leaked elsewhere.

I don't understand the sulking. It's free. If you like it, great, if you don't care for it, look at it this way: it's another toy to throw out of the pram.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Neat, I appreciate both non-brick promos and all the whining about how no one like's non-brick promos. It's a two-fer for me!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Once again Lego SW fans can’t be satisfied. I’ve seen past complaints about GWPs not containing minifigures, then I’ve seen complaints that minifigures aren’t a good idea because they get expensive really quick once the promotion ends, then of course we’re hearing these comments today that don’t like this! Lego is gives stuff away every month and fans still find a way to feel entitled to more.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Presumably this will be in conjunction with the [REDACTED] GWP so I think there's little for the hardcore builders to complain.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those interested, Mandproductions did a thorough video on all of the upcoming May the 4th promos.

So why say “almost certainly” in the article, as that only throws the title into doubt?

By in Czechia,

I don't care for the SW side of things, but as far as the coins go, I love the classic LEGO logo one, in the style of the old Pirate coins. I had to grab one because, I mean, it's a metal coin version of the ones I loved as a kid!

Did you type ‘redacted’ or did Huw replace [REDACTED] with ‘redacted’?

Not sure why people are so angry, you get this for the £70 spend and a mini Lego Death Star 2 for £150.

I typed it! We can try though - Death Star II mini build...?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd much rather have a minifigure. This reminds me of something you would get with an action figure.

It originally said 'Luke Skywalker Mini-doll' but the world wasn't ready.

Some people do care because every time I get something like this I can sell it on my BL store for $25-35.

From the leaks that I've seen it doesn't look like we're getting an exclusive minifig this year, unfortunately. Not excited for this either.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Must admit I prefer Lego, and if not Lego then I preferred the key chain, because at least it has a use or even a SW blanket like they had for Christmas. This is cool for those who like it, I like the pattern/image well enough, but for me personally, it's just more "stuff".

I enjoyed the collectible coins, but that one was definitely the highlight.

We used to get Colonel Yularins. Look how far we’ve fallen.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego is saving me money with these lackluster GWPs. I could care less about a coin and the mini Death Star II surely isn’t worth the high spend threshold. This will be the first May 4th event where I purchase nothing since coming out of my dark age.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this is a great Gift with Purchase, especially as part of multiple GWPs during the same promotion.

If you don't like it, that's fine, but stop being so arrogant that you believe your personal views represent the entire community.

Yeaaaah guess I'll avoid ordering stuff that day

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ooh, so pretty! The way the trans-blue overlay gives it a bit of a 3D effect is awesome, and the coin itself reminds me of the Power of the Force coins that were packed with every carded action figure around the time RotJ came out.

@gunther_schnitzel:
I will give you $5 value in trade for any of these coins. Hey, like all rare coins, “face value” is way less than they sell for on the open market.

@sjr60: I would love to have Star Wars minidolls. And hey, Leia's technically a Disney Princess now...

@BJNemeth: You find that in almost every fandom. "This doesn't appeal to me, so how can anyone like it?"

"Leia's technically a Disney Princess now..."

She is a princess. She's (sadly) owned by Disney now. She's definitely not part of the Disney Princess marketing juggernaut, nor does it appear they have any interest in adding her to the lineup. While there was a huge discussion/argument about what rules Disney applies to the Disney Princess club, Disney does not appear to have publicly stated these rules. Tink was a member, but got spun off into Disney Fairies. Esmerelda just got dropped from the lineup altogether. Mulan isn't a princess, a princess-equivalent, or married to a prince, but she's included. Anna and Elsa are not (but Frozen merch sells well enough that they don't need to be shoehorned into the other branding). As yet, no live-action characters have been added. Giselle was a possibility, but they reportedly would have had to pay Amy Adams royalties on use of her likeness due to her film contract. Even the brief animated version wouldn't get around that, since it was based directly on Adams.

So, maybe it's because she's live-action. Maybe because she wasn't the focal character of the first film in the series. Maybe it's because Disney didn't release that film, but simply acquired it in a soulless corporate buyout.

Apparently the set was ready for release but Darth Vader had an issue with his Lilac and Teal outfit.

By in United Kingdom,

I like this. As a collector of varying Star Wars merchandise since the early eighties, anything a little bit different is always welcome and if you don't agree, my Emperor Palpatine Pez dispenser will come and visit in the small hours.
(Actually like all three of the promos this year. Along with the rumoured additional VIP points I should have a good May 4th).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It’s a shame that Lego can’t do a blistered minifigure like the Kenner ones - this would look great above a blistered Darth Vader with a homage card back.
I appreciated the classic logo coins they did - they set off a display nicely (especially the space one!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

If it were designed and packaged like it belonged in the set with the other VIP coins I would be much more interested.

@Jackthenipper:
They came close when they switched SDCC minifigs from just a 2x2 plate glued on cardstock to provide a place to mount a minifig, to the clamshell packaging that lasted until the pandemic effectively killed that line of promotional items. However, with the shift away from using plastic to package plastic, I don't see that as likely to happen. But I would absolutely love to get Boba Fett and a Scout Trooper packaged this way.

Lego never did a Star Wars clamshell for the conventions, did they? All I can think of that came close were the 2009 Comic Con displays. Obviously Marvel and all the other themes had plenty of clamshells.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Jesse_S_T:
No, not that I'm aware of. They started with the 2x2 cards with DC, then added Marvel before switching over to the clamshells for both. TLM2's Unikitty, The Hobbit's Bard and Azog, and Stranger Things' Barb are the only others I can think of offhand. And the two from The Hobbit weren't even unique minifigs (nor do they have the SDCC exclusive bug like the others). However, I know that there was a clamshelled version of Lester, the Leicester Square "mascot", and a LEGO Store employee that were released through other avenues, so I suppose it's _possible_ that at least one SW minifig has been released this way. Just, you know, not at SDCC.

Ooh, I thought I'd just thought of one (Times Square "NY I <3" Yoda), but I was able to find a few photos of the packaged version, and they're just heatsealed in plastic bags.

By in United States,

Ah, ye ole Lego mint is back in action.

I side with those who desire brick-fig promos. But, I also appreciate stacked GWPs of any type.

I guess I'll be adding to my mostly-unintentional collection of 6 Lego coins (gold (best one), space, pirate, oil, Mario x2).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it actually. I don't know if I'll be able to swing the price, but it looks neat otherwise.
