The piece count is actually 420.

Fixed, thanks!
The pricing is starting to get ridiculous :(
I was afraid we would have to go 24 hours without a set reveal! Good thing there's this... spaceship... thing.
I really, reaaally miss the days when waves of sets would just drop all at once a couple of times a year. I mean, they still do. But stuff like 'The Hoopty' is probably not really worth this hubub. I suppose it's because of all the licenses :/
It doesn't help that we will probably also get a 'official reveal' article again, followed shortly by a review... As I'm writing this I think I should really just adjust my news settings...
Final edit: gosh that price is a good joke. I thought 'why the fanfare for a mid-sized set'?
It isn't mid-sized... This is apparently worth as much as a Galaxy Explorer, lol
The profit margin of this must be better than the cartels.
wow that price is insane even for current lego prices
Wow that sure is a.... grey blob.
You sure the currency is right on that price? Its not meant to be like... 94 NZD or something?
95€? Half of that would be more fitting considering the piece count.

That price has to be wrong, surely
That price is insanely high compared to parts.
Not even like there are many figures either to make up for it.
What makes them think it's worth that much.
When I first read it, I assumed it was Eur 49.99 not 94.99. The set doesn't look bad at all, but at over 20c a part I cannot see it selling too well, and there better not be lots of small pieces in it at that price.
Crazy cat ladies of the superheros ;P

It could be but don't call me Shirley
A bit of a weird ship. Khamala looks good. Photon could’ve used some leg printing details. I don’t like really detailed minifigure pieces next to just plain pieces.
Kamala should probably have medium legs
It's a nice set and the Photon Mini is great. But you could knock £30 off the price and it would still be expensive. At least it's not a Hulk buster or a stupid buildable figure. I'll see if it gets reduced or buy Photon as a single mini. Not paying £80 plus quid
I'll always like a Police Squad joke BRAVO
Crazy price!
Awful, will be sold at half price the whole time surely. Like Rise of the Domo, which was a similar price point but had 1000 plus pieces.
£49.99 would feel like a pretty rough deal for this set.
Assumably it will be £89.99 in the UK.
This is a genuine question: what are they thinking? I don't understand the price here. I understand that costs have increased. This set has 3 Minifigures, one with leg printing. There is no justification for the price I can identify here.
What is causing that price? Can anyone in the ambassadors network query this?
This is worse than the Iron Man Armory and the War on Water.
Takes the crown as most overpriced Marvel set ever.
I can't understand it. Hugely disappointing.
I actually like the set (wish that Captain Marvel and Photon were more detailed though).
That price has to be wrong! I'd consider £50 but whatever 95€ converts to is extortionate.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen that windshield/cockpit piece. I didn’t know that mold was still in use.
I like the model well enough, but ouch ouch ouch that price. I hope this is one of those 75338 situations where what looks madly overpriced at first impression turns out to be merely quite overpriced when you get your hands on it.
Is this the most cats in a set to date?
Question: will the increased insane prices result in the same revenues considering less will be sold probably?
€100x50 is the same as €200x25.

Hence why LEGO pushed me put of the hobby.
The ship looks nice, but no way am I paying anywhere near that much to get it.
Looks a nice set, with 3 great minifig characters in it. But for that price?!? No thanks. Not until the sales reduce it by 50%...

The Cat Hotel 41742 has three cats and a brick built cat sign, if that counts.
And if you count big cats, there are two adult lions and two lion cubs in 60307.
And five robot/mech cats in 21311.
While I don't want to put any limits on human creativity, sometimes I feel like there's only so many ways to design a sci-fi spaceship before it becomes generic. (Or else you have to do a radical redesign like GOTG3's Bowie.) That thing looks "okay," but we're past the point of the iconography of an X-Wing.

The thinking behind it could be: (1) we'll see if we can get away with it, or (2) we'll price it ready to discount it at 30%.
Will you be buying this set?
No, it's too expensive 99%
No, but I like it 0.2%
Yes, eventually 0.2%
No, it doesn't interest me 0.2%
Maybe, I haven't made up my mind yet 0.2%
Yes, as soon as it's released 0.2%
Idk my thoughts on this, mainly because I'm not sure about the quality of the movie it's based on.
Also,didn't expect 3 cats in a spaceship.

But that's not important right now.
If you're going to put out a set that has a comparative price this high, you need some major hype behind it. Unfortunately for LEGO, I have not personally met ANYONE who's excited for this movie.

I would imagine so, at least for molded cats. There was a mosaic set ( 1014-2 ) in the 80s that had I think 8 but they were pictures so don't really count. Unless there is some game or jewellery type set that has multiple cats in, I cannot think of another normal set with more. Tic-tac-toe had five lots of animals, but they were bunnies and hamsters. Cats vs dogs would have been good for a parts pack.
Interesting that this set names the depicted ship (I assume it's a name? It might be a description impulsively assigned by Kamala), whereas with GOTG half the time we got something generic like "The Guardians' Ship" instead of a name (Milano, Benatar and Bowie). Specifically (not counting micros):
Unnamed: 30525 , 76107 , 76193 , 76255
Named: 30449 , 76021 , 76081
Oh, if it wasn't evident to non-American readers: "hoopty" is urban slang for an worn-out, probably not road-worthy car; the term (...research...) dates to the 1950s but surged in popularity after 1989. The short-lived UPN "Homeboys in Outer Space" (1996) had a vehicle described as a "space hoopty."

The $90 price was attached to the leaks for weeks, I don't think it's a mistake. As for 95€, 4 other sets this year have that price, with plenty of 85€ and 105€. Seems like a "let's squeeze just a bit more" to me.
@sipuss said:
"The piece count is actually 420."
it's clearly a coded message as to how the price was decided
Let me just say something about the price, because I think that issue has been largely overlooked in the comments: that price is insane!
Maybe it's fully chromed and the renders don't reflect it well, then I'd happily pay 95 euros.
WOW that price. Just wow. It's like they set the target price at $90 and halfway through the developer realized there was NO WAY they could meet a 900-ish piece count and they just gave up.
And so much for the usual "Oh, stores routinely sell sets for 20-30% off retail." At anything other than heavy clearance this is a terrible value.
A shame, too, I like the look of the film!
Mama mia papa pia that is perhaps the worst value for a set I have ever seen in a while. Almost 100 dullars for 420 pieces? Yeah no, yikes on a stick. The ship is cool but what was lego thinking with this piece? This is a really really nice ship but it's not gonna last long with that price tag. 55 dollars at best.
Please tell me these are Hongkong Dollar? Or New Taiwan Dollar?
Love the design, its a very slick looking ship, though looks like you've got to take an entire wall off to see any interior detail? That said, the price tag? Its at least twice what I'd be comfortable paying for a 420 piece set,
Hahahah, no thank you.
I guess the definition of hoopty has changed since the 90s?
This looks too nice to be a hoopty. It’s almost all one color!
I really think they are starting to factor in the 30% mandatory Amazon discount. So basically you will end paying a regular price even with the discount. And the dumbest fanboys will pay the VIP price on the LEGO website. As a marketer I respect that but I’m not certain it’s sustainable. Anyway, shareholders will be happy. Actual customers not so much probably.
So an "old car in bad condition". Well, maybe they'll accept a "best offer" pricing.
Another Superhero set without any antagonists....come on LEGO! Why couldn't we get some Kree warriors or another Accuser?
This will definitely be a wait for Target or Walmart discount before purchasing. I'll wait it out.

Totally agree with you. The level of "Reveals," and press releases are turning ridiculous. Every single set has to be revealed, which turns Lego marketing one the most annoying ones...
i wish the star wars designers would put as much effort into the interiors of smaller ships as the marvel ones.
that said maybe i'll get the instructions for this one and see what I can adapt! bo-katan's fighter needs an upgrade
Let's hope corporations lobby for more imaginary costs that can be added onto imports from China and Vietnam, because 50% surcharge on top of the real price for a set that consists of plain, basic bricks, 3 torso prints, a leg print and a couple common printed accessories from overproduced City and Friends sets is not something I will ever acquiesce to. You might as well pay 47 bucks for the separate parts and the other 47 bucks to get a customizers version of these figures and cats.

I was worried I was the only one that had homeboys in outer space pop into their head.
Asides from the horrendous price I thought this looked OK until that last image of it sat on a shelf and it just looks... dull.
I know it will be based on a pre-existing design but take a look at any Monkie Kid or Ninjago vehicle around the same price and it is sooo much more interesting. This has nothing on 80035 and that even comes with more figures!
*looks at spaceship*
"Not bad, but I wonder how much it will cost."
*looks at price, does double take*
"I think I can live without this one."
Fun spaceship, but that price! And the render looks awful, it looks as bad as a Mega Construx product render. Except Mega prices aren't that extortionate yet.
Price on this article isn't wrong, LEGO.com UK lists it as £84.99
That's bonkers.
Wonder if there will be more than just 1 set with these leading ladys

The cartels are going to want in on this lucrative new market... pretty soon we're going to see deals going down on street corners for Lego addicts.
"You got a nice MOC there. It would be a shame if something happened to it. Now, me and my boys could protect that model for you, for a fee..."
Just a little comparison between this set and a similar enough one, 76156 Rise of the Domo from 2021:
– RRP: €95 vs €100;
– part count: 420 vs 1038;
– minifigures: 3 (+ 3 cats) vs 6;
– side builds: 0 vs 2.
I leave it to your eyeballs to compare the size of the main builds, aesthetic preferences notwithstanding.
And as some pointed out, the minifigures here don't even have any arm printing (while the Monica Rambeau minifigure from 71031-3 did), and only one has leg printing. I get that generic parts are more reusable, but these bland elements always stick out jarringly to me next to the detailed torsos.
The Marvels set seems well made and all, but the price gouging is *rough*.
Boy, LEGO is awfully proud of this set aren't they? I'm betting that this will be the 'big' set for the movie hence the price point. Well out of my family's budget especially for what it appears to be. LOVE the minifigures and the kitties but it's a no-go for me.
This is a joke right? Miss Marvel without her domino mask...
I think you really may be onto something here. LEGO has to be looking at Amazon and gnashing their teeth what with their (LEGO's) history of being very rigid on price points and discounts. I think the only reason Walmart gets a pass from LEGO is because of their ridiculously strong buying power/influence.
$90 is laughable for a $50 build.
HOLY SIR MIX-A-LOT!
Wish that it was Ms. Marvel’s TV show outfit. And that the set was 50% less, which I’m sure it will be in about two months.
This feels like one of those sets marketed for non-Lego fans. That price is shocking.
Is that actually the name? I guess it looks fun, but this seems like one of those other 'meh' Marvel sets. Plus, that price is an absolute joke! The least they could've done is add Goose's mouth tentacles.
The weed in Denmark must be amazing, because they have to be high when they priced this set.
@busyman said:

Wow, very high PPP... It must have a lot of large pieces and play features!
Large pieces: the canopy, and umm...
Play features: stud shooters, the top lifts off, and... umm...
I don't get it.
That's a cute ship.
The price is a mistake though.
The only question is whether it's a mistake by Marketing or a mistake by Sales.

Last year, I forget if it was November or December, Target had a spontaneous weekend where the WF boat set dropped to about $45. I picked it up and then later resold the stupid boat because I really just wanted the minifigures. I may have to play that game with this set as well. (I am noticing that of late, MCU and Star Wars sets lack sufficient iconography that I'd really want to keep the set in addition to the figures. An X-Wing is timeless. This ship is...a gray and orange blob.)
It’ll end up like that Black Panther boat thingy at Target which is permanently on sale at massive discounts. Target can’t even move those at $45.
This like actually kind of makes me mad. At least with the BP War on the Water we got like, 5-6 pretty great figs, but this has 3?? 400 pieces??
Please no one buy this set. We have got to let Lego know this isn't acceptable.
I know it's just a toy, and with that said, this seems so smarmy thinking they are going to get parents to buy this measly little set for almost $100. C'mon man.
$90?? man.
If this was £35 I'd consider it. I opened up the link to the LEGO site and saw the £85 tag and I thought it must be a joke. That is obscene. I know the 10p-per-piece metric is controversial to some, but this is double that which is clearly unacceptable, and it doesn't even have anything which could bump up the price (light brick, electronic functions, etc.)
This isn't just bad, this is actually a disgusting move from LEGO and they should be ashamed of themselves for thinking this is even close to okay.
$134 CAD after tax for a 420 pieces set? Yet still, people will find a way to justify it.
420-piece set for $90? No thanks, Lego. It's way overpriced. We'll all just sit back and wait for this to be heavily discounted to $50 where it belongs.

Given that all of the named ones are the Milano, I wonder if it has to do with the specific name? Like they're worried about about Pat Benatar or the Bowie estate making a fuss, but for whatever reason that doesn't extend to Alyssa Milano.

No, don't buy it at all. Not even the figures from the after market. Let it rot on the shelves, where it belongs!
Overpriced garbage, for that price we should be able to remove the Flerkens’ heads and put them back on. A shame that it’s this expensive because I wanted Carol and especially Kamala but I’ll probably skip this one unless there’s a > 50% discount.
What is Lego smoking thinking that it's worth that kind of money
maybe Disney assumes they will be losing money on the movie, so are demanding a bigger cut of the LEGO sales?
That might be the only explanation for that price...
I'm probably more often a LEGO apologist than LEGO critic, especially with pricing:
The Justifier - well, it does end up pretty well sized
Motorized Lighthouse - well, it comes with powered up elements
Triceratops Research - well, it includes some large custom molds
Spiderman Final Battle - well, it comes with so many special minifigures
The Hoopty - well, um,
This must be an error. It has to be.
The build looks fantastic but the price is simply insane. This is a $60 set at the absolute most. At this price I'd expect CMF-level minifigures, which these are not. The minifigures are fine by Marvel standards but not for a $90 set with 419 pieces and only 3 figures. Where's the main villain? Where's Nick Fury? I'm so excited for this movie and I like this set but the price instantly destroys any happy feelings.
It’s really cool. I haven’t liked a ship so much in a while.
But I’m so broke, even my processor has no cache…haven’t been buying LEGO from LEGO in like a year or more. Won’t be buying this…maybe I can get lucky when it gets clearanced.
I mean, I’m SO broke…all the last guy who broke into my house got was experience.
On the bright side- it's one less set I want to buy!
Am I the only one thinking of Austin Powers?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju1UwmgkKgI
Jokes apart, this is and the Chewie statue are prime candidates for next season's shelfwarmers, that price point is something unjustifiable.
Shout out to the designer for bringing back the Slave I windscreen in a new color! I’m excited to see what will be done with it.
@merman said:
"Question: will the increased insane prices result in the same revenues considering less will be sold probably?
€100x50 is the same as €200x25. "
Perhaps. But from LEGO’s perspective, the *margin* may be greater. Even allowing for economies of scale, 25 sets may have lower per unit costs than 50 sets. Storage and shipping, for example, would be less. Marketing may too, I’m not sure.
$120 for Canada, wow that is over priced..
LEGO must be using Hasbro's pricing strategy--which is, at any price, people (and by that, I mean Marvel fanatics) will buy it. I have occasionally bought action figures, but the $25 MSRP pricing of most of the Hasbro ones have priced me out of the market for Legends/Lightning Collection. I wait until they go on sale on Amazon (or even local closeout retailers) for like $10-15 anymore.
Normally I would be looking for reasons to justify a price. Here there just aren't any. It's crass profiteering and reminds me that there is no such thing as a nice Billionaire!
I won't be buying this set at anything under 40% off.
I’ll consider this a preliminary vibe for the next Marvel instalment and considering the recent output, I think I just saved £12, thank you!
Could the price have anything to do with all the drum-lacquered pieces?
The set itself isn't too bad, not great, but I've seen worse, the Minifigures are the most interesting feature of the set though, the two cons I have for the set is however, the ridiculous price, haven't seen a set this badly priced before, some sets from earlier this year were starting to push it, however, they atleast had pieces that are either using newer molds or were on the rarer side, this set doesn't really feature any new pieces that I'm aware of, nothing that would justify the price anyways, the build is kinda nice, but it shouldn't qualify for the insane price either, the other issue is a big one for the sets based of the recent Marvel movies, and is a common complaint I heard constantly from other fans as well, none of the major villains for their movies have made an appearance in any of the sets, it would be fine if maybe one or two of the villains didn't show, but for all three movies, not cool, that is some of the reasons why I collect superhero sets to begin with, for the villains. Any sets that actually featured villains are for the Comic based sets as well as for younger based Spider-Man cartoon and The Infinity Saga! Great set concept, horrible price!
@darthbooji said:

These pieces only appear to be drum-lacquered on the renders (are the apologists going to excuse that as a "simple, meaningless mistake" like they do all the other ones on boxes and renders?), if you look up the real pictures and the short video at LEGO, they're just bley.

If they were drum lacquered, that might answer the pricing issue... but the parts are light bluish grey.

The movie's not out yet, this ship isn't in the trailer, can't tell how accurate it is but I think the model designers have done a really commendable job here of making a fun toy spaceship. Too bad nobody in their right mind would buy this
What a ripoff.
Ive actually just contacted LEGO Customer Service and ive been assured that the price and the piece count are correct. But they are "supposedly" passing my question on to the relevant team to double check.
402 pieces and 3 minifigures for £84.99? This surely has to be a mistake?
By comparison, you have The Guardians Ship 76255 with 1108 pieces and 5 minifigures for £89.99.
I remember when Marvel used to be good value for money.
This is not going to sell well, particularly as people are now getting Marvel Cinematic Universe fatigue.
I'd like to get the set but I won't even start considering it until at least a 30% discount.

Nope. The lighting on the product render on the front of the box is deceptive. You can see in the lifestyle pics that it's plain old light bluish gray.
Wooooooow 420 for $90
paying for 3 cats sheesh

I love marvel but 3 times over priced, I could see selling 30-50, 50 think be high,
But 90 reminds me that star wars set mostly a baseplate.
Am I wrong? $20 100pieces times whatever seem high?
$25 figure though hmmm.

STARTING TO? Lego's prices have been ridiculous for a while now, although this does seem excessive. Overpriced sets have become the norm and as much as I hope that their pricing goes down, I doubt it will be anytime soon.
Almost every set revealed these days have at least someone saying that they'll get this set on a fair discount.
It is refreshing to for once see a set that everyone seems to agree on. Unless I overlooked it, I don't even see anyone complaining about people complaining about the price. Did Legio finally make the one set to unite us all?

Though Batman black box was one lol
So at $90usd, this is another like that $90 Iron Man Armory and the diorama sets.
Just wait. Wait til Amazon puts this on sale.
I waited. Got the Armory for $60, got the Degobah diorama for $64, Trench-Run for $50.
Missed out though on the Trash-Compactor (it was at one time on Amazon for $70usd).
At this rate, might have to be 70% off to move. Oh, for the Kiwis, it is $170, or FORTY cents a piece!
CRIMINAL pricing, holy moly
I really hope that price is a mistake. If not, I might just by one and store it away. Because no one else is going to buy it, and I can make millions off it in 20 years.
Edit: Ok, after doing some looking, the only other set that price with a piece count less than 700 is either Duplo, or 76948 which has 466 pieces, comes with a T-rex! and still has more minifigures than this.
I suggest we label any obviously overpriced set a Hoopty. By what criteria I don't know, but I like the sound of it.
P1: "Look at this new set!"
P2: "Oh, it's expensive, think it's a Hoopty?"
P1: "Yeah maybe."
CapnRex101, Huw, The Brick Pal, whoever reviews this, all you need to do is go straight to the conclusion and write ‘most overpriced Marvel set of all time’, and we will have our satisfactory review.
Guess cats count as minifigures...
I think, it’s actually a great set. But the price is ridiculous. Thankfully, many Marvel sets are only selling at half price, anyway. But this is getting crazy.
I was happy to see a set with 3 female heads of differing skin tones, but they're all smiling on both sides? Really? After Wanda in the collectible series and this, I think Brie has to have a conversation with the design team who seem to think girls need to smile more...I just want some frowny faces :(

I just bought kitten loose for $2. Got another included in a small firefighter City set that cost $9
I’ve stopped collecting LEGO and started collecting action figures. $90 could go a long way in my new hobby…
Looks great, but the price is unbelievable, scandalous, outrageous and disgraceful...ostentatious, egregious, so exorbitant, not cool!
I love the part where she said "it's Marvelin' time!" and then she Marvel'd all over that insane $90 USD price tag. Truly the of all time.
That is a $45 CDN set TOPS.
I like the characters... Not so wild about the ship, if you can call it that...
I've decided I'm going to call LEGO customer service and straight up ask why this set is more than twice as expensive as comparable sets. From my point of view it hasn't got any features that could justify the price.
I'm already curious about their answer.
For they must at least give SOME explanation, since that RRP is not only outrageous, it's beyond any reason.
I had to see this for myself. So I went to the lego website and sorted new products by price. Absolutely everything in the same price range gives you twice as much stuff, in any theme. The more I look the more confusing it gets. What is going on here? This just doesn't make any sense!

I understand why, but it seems like a waste of your time for you and the person who will handle your call.
Don't buy it, or at least not at the normal price. Write a complaint. Even if they don't read it fully at least their marketing should keep score of the numbers and reasons.

That's exactly what I meant by "call". I didn't phone, I wrote an email asking whether the suggested RRP was a mistake and if not, why it is over twice as high as any comparable set. It just doesn't make any sense.
Remember when people wrote and complained about the crazy RRPs for some of the Bricksketches and LEGO subsequently reduced those?
It's not that I am even interested in buying this set. It's the principle. If people start accepting such crazy prices without question, LEGO will feel justified in following up on that practic. They must know that they can't get away with everything they try.
What is it with one Marvel set always being way overpriced? Last time it was Ironman's latest workshop set (76216).

Speaking of which, notice how that set from last year had five more minifigs, more pieces, yet while already overpriced was 5 Euro less at RRP?
Just goes to show even more how absolutely crazy this new set is.

Huh?
Maybe it will come with a brick built middle finger as GWP.
You know, the shape of this ship, plus the name, reminds me of somethin' phunky.

Good one.
By the way, the answer I got from customer service was as unsatisfactory as expected.
They didn't even bother to go into my question but simply said that shops would be free to charge more or less than RRP and that they had no influence on how shops went about their pricing. Not at all what I had asked. But what should one expect from a company that doesn't give sh** about their customers as long as they pay through the nose for their products no questions asked.
Oh this is definitely going on clearance.
For all those complaining about the price: which set comes with three (!) Flerkens? Cats are a dime a dozen, but Flerkens are a rare breed.

Love the middle finger GWP, but it will be gone within the first hour as LEGO will sell out.
This ship's about the size of 75178 Quadjumper (457 parts, $50). Even subtracting some parts due to the large canopy piece, and factoring in a post-covid corporate worldwide price gouging of +$10, that should still be only $60!
Another Lego set released directly to the clearance bin. Was this set contractually obligated by Marvel? Is the price high so they can discount it like a product in an infomercial? Lego might have better luck selling crappy knives and cookware than this set.
For a brief moment I thought (judging from the 1st picture) that TLG had actually executed this set in metallic silver grey, BUT it's just light grey. Bummer.
BTW, the price is absolutely insane.

There's a page on the Lego website, "How we decide the prices of LEGO sets." In summary, LEGO marketing looks at number of pieces, number of new and unique molds, licensing fees, stat data from a country's population, transport costs, exchange rates, local laws and taxes, and prices of other toys.
I'd love to see the data sheet with these numbers for this set, then the reasons why the team decided to settle on the $90 price tag.
One thing is for sure, they captured Captain Marvel's smirk/personality perfectly holding that cup.
I'll take the figures, the set is okay but I'd never build it. And I will never pay that for this set, so I guess I'll have to do without.
Lego has started pricing scheme like those wannabe brands, that go with high rrp but actually count on 50% sales.

If only the U.S. saw the level and scope of sales the EU gets.
It has a nice silhouette but what a TERRIBLE price
With these prices I'm considering another dark age.
Bye LEGO!
Curious what price would building just ship pieces from here?
They should've gone the extra mile and set the US price point at $100 and marketed it as an 18+ collectable, black box and all.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LEGO IS NOT SERIOUS WITH THIS REALLY 90 DOLLARS????????
yep, no denying anymore that LEGO is copying Mega...
I was looking at the piececount and considering buying it for €45 , I thought the actual pricing was a typ-o . Alas……

To be fair, when 'Those were the days' my Fire Station was under £3!
I think someone made a mistake and mixed the price between the Ashoka shuttle and this. The star wars one actually looks reasonable when compared to whatever this is supposed to be.
That is one expensive overpriced phallus shaped space ship, I guess Di$ney needs money but this is outrages.
The price is LEGO's way of telling AFOL's to go touch grass.
...this would be a great $60 set.

Disney have imposed a massive profit percentage for this set as they know the movie will be a flop and lose money at the cinemas ;-)

My theory is this set is more or less being sent out to die. The movie has been moved twice, and is now about to be moved a third time. Reaction to the trailers has been fairly bad. And there are reports that following Disney’s utterly catastrophic summer, several of the toy license contracts have been reworked to where Disney pays for unsold merchandise. So my theory is Lego is pricing this to amortize their costs using the absolute minimum sales numbers, while also fluffing the price that Disney will end up paying when they go unsold.
Hey, has anybody said anything about the price yet? No? Well, here goes…
I like the look of this set, I do. It looks like a fun LEGO spaceship, with useful parts, play value when built as the official model, and three very cool minifigures plus three printed single-piece animal figures. Cool.
But man, I do not see $89.99 USD of value here. Is it just about size / mass? I get that it’s not exactly tiny, and has a number of fairly big pieces, and it’s a spaceship large enough for a playable interior that accommodates multiple minifigures and can fully enclose them, but… what else? It’s mostly stone grey, a color hardly underrepresented in sets generally and licensed spaceships specifically. It doesn’t have a light brick or a motor or anything like that, as far as I can tell. It appears all the set-specific decorated elements (that aren’t figures or parts thereof) are stickered, not printed. The set isn’t an ultra-limited convention promo or anything like that (right?). It has play features, but not exactly play features galore, like the Galaxy Explorer. It opens up, it shoots studs… anything else?
$89.99 for 420 pieces, huh? Ouch.

You and me both. I’ll defend LEGO on lots, and have, but this is just ludicrous. This is one hill I won’t die on for them.
Person A at LEGO store: “$90 is way too much !”
Person A at BrickLink: “$90 + shipping + fees for ( insert retired Star Wars battle pack) ?!? Dude, hold my beer.” *empties wallet*
And yes I agree the price is absurd. But still c’mon people ….
No, they're shipping it in a gold-covered box with premium boxes and cardstock instructions.

It looks great and therefore wasn’t surprising to find Stafford did it. But no way at that price. We have to draw a line sometime.
If you get this with the S.H.I.E.L.D. Quadjet..................................BOOMYA!
This has to be the most egregiously overpriced set ever, right? Or at least top 5? Lego has lost their minds if they think anyone is paying basically double of what this is really worth.
