BrickLink designer program series 2 finalists announced

Posted by ,

The five BrickLink designer program series 2 finalists have just been announced and thankfully Jonas Kramm's Mushroom House is among them.

The designs will now be refined and crowdfunding will commence in June next year, with production and shipping following in November.

Find out the other four that made the cut after the break, and read more about the process at BrickLink.

Darn... I want more money. These seem like where my big LEGO bucks are gravitating towards these days.

By in United States,

The Modular Train Station looks fantastic!

And I’m very happy that Jonak’s mushroom house made it! Congratulations to each of the designers on their success.

Mushroom House!!!!!!! It's so beautiful...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Yes!!! The station made it! I'll be happy to sell my MISB studgate for it. I really love the look of this modular railway station. Great news for me and hopefully for many more!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

That Logging Railway, awesome!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Its all going to be very very expensive.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wow! Finally one that I voted for made it! :-) Brick Cross looks amazing. Congratulations to all of the designers.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

To be honest Mushroom House deserves to be Ideas set. Lovely set which would attract AFOL's AND kids! :)

On the other hand Ominous Isle looks poor after seeing hundreds of great Ideas Pirate theme projects.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Congrats to all the finalists. They're all great designs.

I hope I'm able to get my hands on Brick Cross Station since that one will fit in particularly well in a Lego City (admittedly, it's clearly based on a UK railway station, and my city is supposed to be a fictional US city, but I'm sure I can incorporate it somehow).

As an aside, I love the BrickLink program and the opportunities it provides designers who'd be unlikely to see their concepts realised via the official Lego IDEAS route. Long may it continue.

By in United States,

My money will stay in my pocket this time around

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now series 1 is out and we know more about the sets, I wonder if these ones will have the same stability issues.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m a bit amazed the logging railroad was chosen, but I love it! Such a dream set for me representing my favorite narrow gauge U.S. railway equipment.

All of the selections I really like. Mushroom House is very original.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Most of these can be build with my own pieces, another pass xD
Love the sea house the most!

I'm just waiting for it to be denied because Lego will be doing licensed Smurfs instead.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Since the start of this program, I've wished that more smaller scale models went through. The mushroom house is a nice step in that direction—hopefully we'll see more like it...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My wallet is pre-emptively aching...

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Mushroom house AKA castle civilian torso battle pack.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very happy Brick Cross made it this time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Glad one of jazlecraz' models made it in. I had preferred others, but I'll enjoy this one!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The gorgeous Mushroom House is a definite must buy. Also Brick Cross, depending on how expensive it is. I love the loco from the Logging Railway, but not too fussed about the rest of the set.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

@JayCal (reply isn't working)
I'm in the same boat. I love the "ironwork" of Studgate, but this has more details and fits well with modulars. I do wish this was a terminus and had the trains running out the back, but it's probably not too hard to do that.

Or maybe I'll have one station at each end of the line...decisions, decisions.

@AliveAndBricking
The interior looks a bit like the station in Porto to me.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

All very nice, and the mushroom house is something particularly original and cool, but nothing screams “BUY ME!!”
Especially at the high prices LEGO will surely demand for these.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not crazy about these.
Nothing really stand out or original.
But the Train Station build looks nice. The designs of the buildings are nice to break up a modular city layout with some interesting architecture.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh no...I really like ALL of these. ??

Gravatar
By in United States,

Bummer, didn't place. I'll resubmit and make some new things for next time. Another train station, though?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Brick Cross = Studgate?

and Ominous Isle looks a lot like the pirate level in the BrickTales game.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A second train station huh? Guess at least modular and train fans can be happy, plus pirate fans by the looks of things.
Mushroom house looks to be the most interesting, but hopefully next time around we'll see some actual variety/creativity in the designs that pass.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I love the heavy focus on Lego trains.

The logging train is cute as a button, and the modular station is beautiful.

If they weren't going to be insanely expensive, I'd be first in line!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m curious about how much the logging train will differ in the final version, particularly the bridge as the tracks are made using an illegal (and definitely not stable enough for use as train tracks) technique.

Gravatar
By in United States,

gorgeous, but i bet the mushroom house will be the only one close to affordable for me

Gravatar
By in United States,

My purchase of Eldorado Fortress might end up getting delayed. These look nice, seemingly an improvement over the previous round. Probably that and the mushroom house, provided they're priced reasonably.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

When the Mushroom House was originally submitted to Lego ideas I was so excited for it. Then, it was all disappointment when I learned that it hadn't been selected. After that, a long time passed before I learned that there was a possibility it could still become a set through the Bricklink designer program. In the meantime I found this MOC available for purchase on a website that sells MOCs and other brick brands so I decided to get it as again, back then nothing had been mentioned anywhere about the possibility of this design eventually going through the Bricklink designer program. Long story short, I got the MOC, love it so I'm not planning on purchasing the official set, perhaps modify the MOC a little bit if the new set includes some additional details that catch my interest (the snail for starters for sure is going to be different than the one I got).

Looking forward to seeing your varied/creative design come through in the next review, like the submissions here that people had worked hard on. If you can’t say something nice…

These won't be available to buy* until 2024... plenty of time to by Eldorado Fortress now and then save for the other stuff later.

*Even if you buy it, it might not be produced.... and even if it was, it would probably ship in 2025.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Will there be a discount if I want to buy all five?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mushroom House is a must. I have never to this day been able to actually be successful with an order from this program, so fingers crossed it works this time!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I waited till midnight to see the finalists. But sheesh I gave up after an hour and just waited till morning. I'm so happy Jonas Kramm's Mushroom House got through! I hope Lego doesn't make the designers change too much of the build but I'd be ok if Jonas is able to get those acorn elves and maidens back like from his original submission. Lol But I'm looking forward to the final designs and crowdfunding stages. And Mazel tov to all the finalists of Series 2!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll definitely grab the mushroom house and train station from this round. I'm super bummed that the Mississippi adventures set didn't get picked. That was the one I was really hoping for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

With the Orient Express coming in a couple of months, and THREE Bricklink Designer Program sets focused on Trains in 2024, this is looking to be the best year for Trains since the My Own Train days!

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

They are all nice but Mushroom House feels more original and stands out among others. Besides it looks fun.

You do need to pay in advance, at least I had to.
So 1 year to gather the money and 2 years to create space to store/display these.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The mushroom house looks outstanding, but Brick Cross is a must in my city.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Nice designs, congratulations to the winners! Forgot about the Ocean House. Surprised by the Logging Railway, but that may just be the one I'll buy.
Got the message yesterday that my design, Stone Grace Railway Station, wasn't selected (not surprised). Maybe submit it next time with some upgrades. One always needs more than one railway station, otherwise they're not much use.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I am quite tempted to pre-order Brick Cross (I love the fact it could be easily integrated in a modular city, while I found Studgate Station too large) and Mushroom House.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

I love them all!

That was not meant to be mean or to say people didn't work hard on their entries. All I'm saying is that the designs that have come out of this program are often incredibly samey because people want to push out another modular or something of the like. It's rare to see anything unique make it through, like the little mushroom house for example.

All I'm saying is, I'm hoping a lot of the great sets that were overlooked in the early rounds get another chance because they elicited far more of a reaction than "generic building/castle." People are allowed to be excited for these, but people are also allowed to be disappointed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m fine with the choices. I just hope one thing changes this time. I REALLY hope LEGO changes the way they collect the cash on the crowdfunding this time around. With most crowdfunding, the person(s) doing the thing collect when the solicitation is over. But last round LEGO didn’t.

My dumb ass thought they did, and so when the 3 products (Winter Chalet, Drive-In and Construction Site) were nearly ready to ship a recent VIP splurge had me tapped out and scrambling to find the cash to pay for all of them.

I would love it if I could just pay when I order., with the option to opt out and be refunded all the way up to the notification date. I know it might be a big ask…but pretty please? :D

Same here! I love the looks of that mushroom house, the snail is rediculous as well. If you ask me there is no need for improvement before its released. Do you know how to get a bricklink set?
Anyways, i do like to read your comments a lot.

By in Germany,

I like this train station so much better than the Studgate one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These all look pretty cool, but Bricklink Designer Program is such a weird thing that it's hard to get excited for any of these.

So much beauty here... but, always: BRING PIRATES BACK! :-)

Yes, it's a beautiful set but you can see it's using the design language of MOCs. I think sitting down with a Lego designer as an ideas set would've helped making it better.

This is an understatement :)
They all will sell out in less than a day. Reviews of these sets are just a fun side read but won't really help with purchase decision making.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I don't see how the logging train with 2/3 or the parts just in the bridge will make it through the crowdfunding phase. It's cute but not 300$ cute. And I don't see how building 15x the same truss and trying to fiddle with bars and tiles in 1x1 clips (illegal if stressed like that to form a curve) would be any fun.
The only sets interesting to me are Brick Cross and Ominous Isle. Maybe mushroom house if under 100$. But we all know how greedy TLG can be and setting the purchase limit to 2 per person will again lead to scalpers buying the sets off and fans getting frustrated.

Gravatar
By in Romania,

No direct Castle set, but the Mushroom house and pirate island are great! Can't wait to get round 3 =))). Wish they made smaller sets though. Not small small, just around 100 Euro at most.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I want all of these

Thank you! I imagine the BL-links will show up on this site soon enough, so we can get our orders in. I'm guessing we'll also get some reviews of the individual sets around that time, but they do tend to sell out pretty quickly."

That is a shame. That mushroom house i need to have but i dont think i want to spend more then lets say 100-150 bugs for that. The aftermarket prices for those bricklink sets are tromendously redonkules! I hate that. The modular lego store is nice as well but 500 or similar prices are just not justified. If a set was released in the 90's and is still sealed i can understand such pricing. Other than that is just madness.

On the other hand it might be very difficult for me to open such set if the aftermarkets prices go skyrocket.. Darn.
