75367 UCS Venator found in store
Posted by TheBrickPal,
The upcoming October Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series release, 75367 Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser, has been made available for sale early at KL International Airport's LEGO Brand Store in Malaysia.
The 5,374-piece set includes two minifigures, Captain Rex and Admiral Yularen, as well as the eponymous Star Destroyer as it appears in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Hopefully high quality images and an official press release aren't far away...
What do you think? Let us know in the comments, and view more photos after the break!
Thanks to Jay's Brick Blog for the news.

Looks very nice.
Seems like the press release usually happens shortly after a mistake like this. Looking forward to seeing it!
Stoked
Serious question: why would someone buy such a big set at the airport? It would be a huge pain to bring on the plane...
It's about time, I frequently see people building MOCs of this.
Omfg I've been wanting this ever since I saw that giant one someone built with like steel support beams. Yay for Prequels!!!!
I may be mistaken but from the back of the box(usually the back of the box shows the functions), it does not look like the front bay opens. Otherwise looks nice and fairly accurate. this will take just as much space as the Concorde.
Oh looking really good. Very nice shaping and color.
I've wanted a great big Lego Venator since 2005, when I first saw the design and also when the Lego magazine featured Erik Varszegi's amazing model. Unfortunately, eighteen years later when a great big Lego Venator is finally released as a retail set, I still can't afford it. Can't wait for the review!
I love that it has the red bridge that Anakin's flagship Resolute has
They just had to put Captain Rex in the massive set!
I'm excited anyway.

No, no, you buy it upon arrival, then give it to your nephew, making you the coolest uncle EVER.
Assuming the kid is into Lego and Star Wars. If they're not... why are you even visiting them? ;)
Looks pretty much like I imagined. Definitely going to get one for sure.
Woohoo! Another massive display piece which looks beautiful but one I don't have the budget or space for.
At least I already have a Captain Rex, albeit the Phase I version.
Very nice! Any word on the price tag?
*edit* Never mind approximately €570
Look close at the sticker on the front. MYR 2849.90 = $609.41 US on a conversion web site right now. Do airport LEGO stores suffer from wild mark-ups because of their locations? If the KL International Airport's standard mark-up for retail items is as bad as any other airport I know of for a simple bottle of water, then there is a chance this won't have a stupid $600+ price tag on it in regular retail locations, or on LEGO.com. It's still going to be high though... fingers crossed.

Yeah, I agree. If it doesn't have any functions or interior, it seems like quite a missed opportunity. Otherwise, it looks nice.
Funny that Captain Rex was in an almost pocket money set back in the day... and now, this. Yularen was a cheap GWP.
It'll be interesting to see if the new one has anything close to an improvement. With printed kama, I'm guessing it is a step backwards.
I suppose the value of my sealed 75012 will likely increase even more.
Omg its finally real. M&R has been talking about this for a year and all I could do was hope and save up $. I see they are doing the red bridges design, I think in the lore that means there is a Jedi general onboard aka a flagship. Maybe they have the extra pieces to make a standard fleet Venator, but if not I might actually mod a set for once because I would prefer a regular Venator.

K-2SO: "It's high.... it's REALLY high."
Oh good, I was hearing rumors a year ago it was gonna be $900 so I was saving up for that so $570 is music to my ears!

What's an M&R? Is that some sort of masochistic thing going on in the swampy, marshlands of Orlando?

Really close.

The Lego store at JFK International seem to have the same U.S. retail prices when I was there this past June. But I didn't check all the prices. Nothing exclusive either.

M&R is a guy who makes a living releasing video after video tanking amazing sets that don’t have minifigures that meet his exact specifications. He did that with the gunship—a beautiful model that he himself campaigned for—and is already well on the way with this set. He’s the ‘No waistcapes?’? Here are nine videos tanking the model!!’ guy.
Don't ever let anybody tell you money doesn't change a person. Last week I got my old boss's job for about a %25 bump. I'm looking at this set going "Hmmm..." but I wouldn't have even opened the article two weeks ago :D
I've spent years building Anio's amazing MOC of the regular Venator, and it's now the pride of my displayed models.
I doubt I'll get this one though, since while it certainly looks very good imho, I simply don't have the room (or need) for two UCS Venator sets.
I remember seeing the enormous LEGO Venator set in "Tag and Bink: Revenge of the Clone Menace" and thinking "yeah, that's never gonna happen".
Sixteen years later...

Well airports also have arrivals, not just departures, they would buy it because they are on their way home or as a gift for someone at their arrival destination.
It's absolutely beautiful.
I just hope that they haven't included stickers like they did with the Razor Crest, the only thing that delayed my purchase and really caused me to hesitate and only then, with a discount at that price point.
Just comparing it to : https://worldofjaymz.fandom.com/wiki/Venator_Class_Star_Destroyer?file=Venator_clonewars.jpg
As I said, simply beautiful.
I thought this was slated for a November release but I guess October. With the Avengers Tower still to come these are the last huge releases for 2023

Welcome to lifestyle creep, my friend! 25% more salary = 50% more Lego....
I have a general rule of no UCS myself, can't make the space for it. But this? This is making that very, very difficult.
I'm crossing my fingers for a midi-scale one similar to the Executor.

I completely stopped following and banned M&R after he thought it was funny to see what happens if he’d smash a 9,000 part Colosseum set on his driveway. The fact people have to work hard to afford it and he simply thought it was fun to destroy it was very off-putting. And some sets he gets from Lego. I never understood why Lego kept on supporting him.
Anyway, back to the Venator: it is beautiful and the 6x6 tiles with the logo look printed (not very shiny indicating these are not stickers). I hope it has some type of interior. Can someone read the dimensions of the ship?

I thought my facetiousness was evident by revealing the geographic locale of said subject.
He's the "I need to hire that guy, for a dollar." He's the guy who roots for Boston sports even though he resides in the swamp. He's the pretend Miami type that couldn't make it there.
Yet, he's getting better as he matures. A mortgage will do that to a guy. He is approaching that adorable sincerity that he had when he was just a wee lil' Tuber.
Moreover, I do support his SW spinoff project: Attack on Lego. He's a minifig nut, and I think that's great.
Minifigs are the only defensible piece of intellectual property that Lego owns that is worth anything. (I mean, minidolls (*gag!)). Therefore, Lego should put the ol' 'only the best is good enough' into them.
Additionally, SW is the IP that saved Lego. (Bonc fans having hissy-fit, here). It's the IP that KEEPS saving Lego year, after year. Yet, the state of SW minifigs is really quite poor. There are almost no fabric accoutrement. There is a sad lack of leg and arm printing. Color-matching is so horrible that every figure is now designed wearing a turtleneck. The state of ALL Lego printing is really quite poor. Pink Commander Fox is inexcusable.
The design choice to have kamas represented on clone troopers with one thin line on the front of the leg is embarrassing incompetence. It makes me embarrassed to admit that I like Lego SW.
They have done so much better in the past. It really is ludicrously indefensible in a $600 set.
Oh, how I wish I had the space and the money. The Venator is easily one of my favorite capital ships (if not *the* favorite) and I've never lusted after a UCS set so much.

Airport Lego usually isn’t marked up and MYR is weak right now so the price will definitely be above 600 in the US

It’s a sad comment on modern-day American culture (M&R is a Florida man) when the above amount of mental backflips are required to justify an entire YouTube Chanel built on whining and tantrums.
As with any Lego set, no one is forcing you to buy it. Incessant complaining and playing the victim is just…sad.
The angle of the front box pic sure makes it look short of the 109cm the back looks to list. Looking forward to finding out how expensive so I can brace my bank account for impact!!!
Nice also to have a big ship with some colour, the SW team are really embracing the dark red this year :)

It’s a disappointingly sad fact that whiny bile channels like M&R that really don’t deserve to do well, do, and channels that are more informative and intelligent don’t do as well as they deserve.

Seriously, I don't watch him much. But, he's just a kid enjoying Lego and being on (small) tv. There's much, much worse. For me though, I prefer the dulcet tones of the Jang.
As for Lego continuing to 'abuse' me with their pencil-line-skirt kamas and color-matching-- that's serious business!!

I have zero room for this set. But it’ll be a day one purchase for me.
I’m always saving money for UCS sets and because I haven’t bought any in a while now (the Razor Crest is a nice ship, just not UCS worthy for me, and don’t talk to me about the land speeder or the way too big gunship), I have the expendable income to purchase the set, which is nice.
As for M&R, I stopped following him 2-3 years ago and I feel better for it.
I’ve been waiting years for a new phase 2 Rex and its in a $500 set, or will be $100+ on the aftermarket. Kind of feels like a cruel joke to wait that long for it to be out of reach again. Ah well. First world problems!
I’ll probably just go see what clone army customs has.
M&R also feels like one of the whiniest of the LEGO YouTubers. Not sure why. I appreciate his passion for LEGO Star Wars, but I think the UCS Falcon videos rubbed me the wrong way when he started complaining about not getting more stuff when the special torso they got now goes for a pretty penny in and of itself.
That, and I always hate marketing campaigns by influencers that encourage spamming hashtags everywhere. It’s kind of annoying.

Honestly it’s kinda reasonable how M&R is complaining so much about the helmet holes and printed waist capes. Lego’s slogan is “only the best is good enough” and it feels like they are going backwards with Lego Star Wars Minifigures. If you look at a the snow troopers for example, the 2014 ones look way better than the 2020 ones because of that waist cape. It gives the minifigs depth. As for the helmet holes, I agree he does complain a lot but Lego does falsely advertise the correct placement for the helmet holes on the box. They should really print 3 different helmet

I'm not a fan of licensed dust collectors, but I like this. Though mainly because it reminds me of ye olde space battles in 2005 Star Wars Battlefront II. Good times.
I would be interested in a mini version of this ship. Looks great though.

I wouldn't worry too much about Rex being exclusive to this set. I think we can expect him in a cheaper set later, albeit without his bandaged head. The real question is whether the cheaper Rex will have arm printing as well. Also, I doubt he will be that much on the aftermarket. The Mexico Factory has been good about dropping prices.

Sure. But you also _land_ at airports, after which you walk the front doors and usually leave by car.
It’s a big, expensive, mostly gray set from the film that more-or-less killed my love of STAR WARS as a property so… yeah! Hope the people who buy it enjoy it!
Don’t know M&R, probably wouldn’t like him. Minifig obsessive collectors kinda weird me out, and the LEGO Star Wars line really led the charge into our modern era of “EXCLUSIVE FIGS. BETTER DETAIL. BETTER ACCURACY. EVERY TIME. Set?… Oh, that’s right, these come with building kits.” Robs a lot of charm from the whole purpose of minifigs, IMO.
@andygott:
Well, he's still cuddled in that sad, sad, security blanket of claiming Star Wars saved the company at a time when it was in a between-movie lull and Bionicle was in a full on multi-media blitz, so seems entirely appropriate.
@zootlewurdle:
I read about a study where it was shown that, in markets where there was only one newspaper, they tended to skew towards the center so as to not alienate half of their potential audience. In markets where two or more were available, they all tended to skew to either extreme because both sides would gravitate towards whichever source most aligned with their particular flavor of outrage.
I can see it working the same way on YouTube. How many people have come here from there braying about "price per stuff", because they've been convinced that bulk is the only thing that matters in a LEGO set? How many have accused Brickset of being in TLG's pocket whenever they post a review that's not negative? Hatemongering and spectacle rule the day.

It's the 20th anniversary of "Clone Wars". It's the 15th anniversary of "The Clone Wars". The plaque just says "Clone Wars". It's a bit ironic, since Clone Wars is the one that Disney declared to be non-canon.
@PixelTheDragon:
To be fair, aftermarket value years down the road, and raw value based on production costs of a new set, are entirely unrelated. Or, if they are related, it's because far less people buy a set if they feel the latter is not worth the price, which just feeds into out of control aftermarket prices on exclusive minifigs.
I love the clone wars and am fond of the ships from that era but for the first time ever a UCS does not resonate with me, and I just don’t have the need for this a surprisingly easy pass for me I must be getting sensible in my dotage, am pleased for everyone who needs this in their life, enjoy.

This is a weird feeling.
Cue m&r making 10 videos complaining about this set, like the ucs gunship he petitioned for and just about every other set released in the 2020's,including the 501'st battle pack he cyberbullied lego months for them to make it. (Less so for the latter, but he still whined about that)
if only Jar Jar Binks was spacecraft
I heard this was $649.99 US. I need to get official confirmation before I start my whiny baby machine…
Looks awesome, though.

Have you seen the designer video for the UCS gunship? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAQSQLuNshk
You would expect that in a $350 set Lego would actually make us show accurate not pretend prequel fans are stupid. On their website they even said it was from Star Wars the clone wars not attack of the clones. A clone commander does not double as a clone pilot! Anyone who has seen episode 2 can tell the difference.
Will this make the price of the 2012 Phase II Rex higher or lower?

It’s probably going to stay the same. Honestly the older one is better than this one. The waist cape honestly adds more depth and detail to the minifig.
Oopsie! XD But, seriously, it looks like a great set.
Meh, they went with the TCW version. Why couldn't they go with the Episode III version?
And 20th Anniversary Clone Wars logo? Really?

Wow, what a surprise. AustinPowers watches only 10 Youtube channels and one of them is Held der Steine, probably the most disgusting and offputting personality in the LEGO community, sorry... the bricktoys community. That guy is a fraud, he is the Donald Trump of LEGO Youtubers. His entire existence is built on bashing LEGO, with the same old criticism (too many colors, stickers, easy builds, price.... aaaaaaaargh). All he can do is complain and crap on LEGO, not only as a company, but also as a product. At the same time he has zero issue presenting products that look like SW and Harry Potter and Ferraris and Porsches, and many more that are clearly majorly infringing on design rights and copyright. His credo seems to be: as long as it is cheap and shiny, I do not give a crap that it is not 100% legit since I can present it for clicks and crap on LEGO some more and my fanbase will LOVE it and I will make tons of money. Yuck. HdS honestly disgusts me 100 times more than M&R will ever do. But, oh boy, a younger LEGO Youtuber that actually does have some valid criticism concerning the accuracy of SW minifigs, suddenly is too much? Really? Don't you honestly see the hypocrisy in your statement here?
I am not a major fan of M&R, but when compared to HdS at least he has principles and a deep love for a specific topic, i.e Star Wars ships, figures and other SW related stuff made out of LEGO. HdS only loves things that fill his bank account. And yes, if you are paying 650 USD for what looks to be an awesome Venator, I agree that the minifigs included should be perfect, and not just 80% ok.
Wow, what a surprise, @MrBedhead disagrees with me.
Who cares? I certainly don't.
By the way, I definitely don't agree with everything HdS says or does, but I do agree with him quite often. Plus I value the entertainment factor of his mostly sarcastic comments.
Personally I like Thorsten from Johnny's World much more, but that's just me.
M&R's production quality (lighting, camera work, studio, etc.) is excellent, but that's about it. I find his online persona so insufferable - he's basically the LEGO YouTuber equivalent of a frat boy. I can only hope his *actual personality* is better.
The funny thing is, I sort of agree with some of his criticisms. I think the printed kamas on the new clones look pretty bad, for example. However, he nitpicks sets into oblivion and takes every flaw as a personal slight against him. He talks about LEGO as if Niels B. Christiansen personally broke into his home, beat up his grandma, and killed his dog for good measure. No toy company is worth that much time and vitriol.
I genuinely think he and similar content creators have made the online LEGO Star Wars community a worse place. I work at a LEGO resale store, and I see a (thankfully small) subset of young customers who openly talk about watching M&R and emulate his behavior/personality. I really don't want his sort of behavior bleeding into the "real world".
If you want good, mature LEGO YouTubers who review sets while being incredibly honest about their opinions, I would definitely recommend JangBricks and Tiago Catarino!

Bricks by Mind and Duckbricks are good too. Unfortunately, don’t expect early reviews from Duckbricks until February.
M&R has a great point about the waist capes though and he’s mainly upset about the helmet holes because they falsely advertise them on the boxes (501st specialist battle pack). For instance, the 2014 snow troopers look way better than the 2020 ones because of that waist cape. If Lego doesn’t want people complaining about the waist capes then either bring them back, dual mold the legs (and home that it’s not grey legs for the new Rex), or give them side leg printing.
Does anyone know the width of the Venator? I've seen the length and the height measurements, but not the width.
Somewhere, right now, MandR is patting himself on the back, seeing more Brickset users talking about him under Venator leak article than about... the actual set. Any press is good press.
Does anyone else picture Admiral Yularen narrating intros in his free time?

First of all, I do not really respect people who constantly promote cheap Chinese LEGO copies that completely disregard copyright, not the users on LEGO forums who shamelessly use the name of one of my most loved movie characters, and also not the Youtubers who used to have a LEGO store but discovered that bashing the company they used to represent online makes them more money.
Also, You mean Thorsten the Youtuber that went against LEGO in court because they were taking away all his copycat LEGO minifigs and who gloriously lost this case? You mean, the same guy who out of spite is now using the Kiddicraft name to make a comeback with minifigs that, granted, look nothing like LEGO minifigs, but that do just look like abominations that are almost as bad as the new Funwhole (another one of these completely original Chinese companies that just released an A-Frame cabin and a Vintage Pickup Truck...) minifigs?
I mean, good that these people are finally understanding that the LEGO minifig is a registered design and that just putting on a slightly differently shaped head does not mean it is suddenly legal. But, all in all, it also feels a bit like a very sad David vs Goliath story where David naively thought he could win, but sadly lost. Very sad indeed.
Not into the clone wars or sequels but this ship has always been my favourite after the Imperial Shuttle. Much better looking than the Star Destroyer. May get it eventually.

Well, I did just realize that “MandR” is apparently supposed to be “M and R”, and not “Mand-R”, as in some sort of play on “Mando”. Not that it interests me in heading to any YouTube channel to watch reviews. I did do that for one of the Indiana Jones sets, but only because I was trying to find views of some of the stickers that were not visible in the official set photos. The tenor of the conversation seems to put him well below the “price per stuff” guy in terms of both likability and quality of his reviews. I don’t think M is likely to see many of the commenters here showing up to sample his videos, but you never can tell how many lurkers are just reading but not weighing in.

BETTER ACCURACY. EVERY TIME. Set?… Oh, that’s right, these come with building kits.” Robs a lot of charm from the whole purpose of minifigs, IMO."
Which film are you speaking of, and what moments? I'm genuinely curious.

I think he’s talking about Revenge of the Sith, which is one of my favorite movies. This set is actually from the clone wars show because the Venator in episode 3 has a grey bridge.

The red bridge is only in the clone wars show, it’s supposed to represent the flagship. In the opening scene in Revenge of the Sith the bridge is grey.
This looks pretty fantastic...will probably my first UCS ship purchase.

You really need to get your facts right.
Thomas doesn’t "used to have" a store (and it's a brick and mortar store too, he never "represented them online"), he still does have it, and he even still sells sets by LEGO. I know, I've been there just recently. If by "represented them online" you meant that he used to sell pieces on Bricklink years ago, true, but that was never the main part of his business.
Just because he critizises a lot of what LEGO does doesn't mean he hates everything LEGO.
What he critizises is simply what many others critizise about current LEGO too. Rising prices while quality issues abound, bad quality prints, dumbed down instructions, rainbow colour mess inside 18+ sets, cheaping out on stuff like set design, number of minifigs in sets versus price, etc.)
Secondly, Thorsten didn't go against LEGO in court, it was the other way around. LEGO had German customs seize a container full of Qman sets headed for Thorsten's toy store and accused him of trying to import illegal merchandise (on the grounds of the Qman figures in those sets). In the end he was allowed to sell most of the sets, but the court ruled the figures to be in violation of LEGO's intellectual property rights to the minifig. Even though the Qman figure looks absolutely nothing like a LEGO minifig, so "copycat LEGO minifigs" is just BS. If you actually knew what the Qman figures in question look like you would never have used that term. But since you don't seem to know the facts it's no wonder you just reiterate the LEGO corporate speak.
Funny sidenote, Lidl regularly sells sets (made in China by Gudi and other companies) in their German stores, and these sets contain figures that are much closer to the LEGO minifig than their Qman counterparts. However LEGO never took Lidl to court over the matter. One does wonder why.
Well, food for thought: Thorsten is just a single toy store owner while Lidl is a global giant that could eat a company like LEGO for breakfast. Instead of the Goliath LEGO is to Thorsten, it would be the David in a battle against Lidl.
Just saying.

From the UCS gunship as much at the designers don’t care and the 2010 10215 UCS Obi-WAN’s Jedi Starfighter which was the last Prequel UCS set aside from the gunship, this one will probably sell well because it’s similar to the Star destroyer and is recognizable by a bunch of fans and doesn’t look like Lego made a bunch of mistakes unlike the gunship.
The gunship designer video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAQSQLuNshk
The gunship also had the wrong logo on the box and the wrong Star Wars movie that is was based off of, episode 2 attack of the clones, on Lego shop @ home they marked it as clone wars in the official set description.
Sorry if that was a little lengthy
For the price given this is not bad. Obviously can't be compared to Martin Latta's version due to scale and piece count but I was still expecting surfaces to be more smooth.

The bridge on the command ships is red. In ROTS they're all gray as I recall.
The Open Circle Fleet roundel is in a different location.
The biggest difference is in the main ventral hanger doors. In TCW they have a kind of roof shape, with a slight peak running down the center. And the doors themselves have kind of chevron shaped panels. While in the film, the doors flat across the top. With gray boxy details on top. (And Obi-Wan's has an additional smaller doors.)
A well-deserved UCS treatment that'll satisfy prequel fans; I'm glad they went for this colour scheme instead of the bland AOTC look. I'll purchase it at some point when it's discounted.
Hopefully the Finalizer (Resurgent-class Star Destroyer) will get the honours of the UCS treatment, when (if?) the sequel trilogy can benefit from more sets — in less than 15 years, I hope.
*scrolling, scrolling, scrolling* hey an on-topic post! *scrolling, scrolling, scrolling*…

I remember seeing Erik’s massive model from the magazine too, and dreaming of someday owning a big Venator myself. I really don’t have the space for it, but fulfilling an 18 year old childhood dream of mine is extremely tempting.
I’ve got a lot of VIP points saved up, so if If I’m patient and wait for a double points event, I may end up taking the plunge with this thing. It would be by far my largest set from every metric: size, parts, and especially price. But boy would it be worth it to own such a beautiful ship.
Model is looking good but I hoped they would produce it in a scale that would make a Lucrehulk at same scale a possibility for below 1000$.
Rex is definitely appearing a year or two later with a different face that lacks the brain chip band aid, not that anyone wants or needs the mixed stylization clones.

It's still going to be high though... fingers crossed. "
I will break it to you, as a neighbour of Malaysia, their currency aren't doing the greatest at the moment.
And pretty much everything you buy there will be cheaper than in your home country based on currency exchange.
And on a final note, the US retail price as rumoured long ago, is $649.99 or $650. Whatever floats your boat.
If I had enough money, I would totally get this! (Note, this is a factor of my personal budget, not a criticism of the price, since I'm not getting it anyway I'm choosing not to care about that)
Fingers crossed there's a microscale interior hangar, though if it existed it'd probably already be on the box... :(

M&R is a guy who makes a living releasing video after video tanking amazing sets that don’t have minifigures that meet his exact specifications.
I didn't say I 'liked' him. I mean, not like-like or anything. What are you trying to imply? Why, do you think he likes me? Just asking for a friend.
Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! Come see the violence inherent in the system.]]
