Bricklist notes: This was an extra special set to work on. I didn't play Horizon Zero Dawn until it was released on PC, but then immediately fell in love with the world. The incredible scenery, majestic machines, crumbled ruins, and unique tribes captivated me and I was thrilled to take on this project.
Joseph Kyde made the first sketch model which gave me a great starting point. I also received plenty of support from Frederic Roland Andre as I developed the model. We were fortunate to work closely with the Guerilla Games design team who gave a lot of key input on the most vital aspects of the Tallneck to capture. Nothing like being able to get feedback from the original machine designers!
It was certainly a challenging product to design, and every section of the build went through loads of iterations. In the end, I'm very satisfied with the final result.
Special shoutout to Casper Glahder for his amazing graphic design work on Aloy.
Element design by Gitte Thorsen and Christian Vonsild, Building Instructions by Morten Sørensen (also a big Horizon fan!), and Hans Henrik Sidenius was the Model Coach.

Bricklist notes: At the time this was my largest product yet, and a fairly challenging one due to the double levels and numerous things that needed to be included. Was great to able to represent the Lush Cave biome in LEGO form for the first time, while the training dojo and sakura tree were inspired by the numerous Asian themed builds in the Minecraft community. Again, Erik Jensen built some of the initial sketch models.
I spent far too long figuring out what ended up being a very simple trapdoor mechanism, but am quite satisfied that the same 'trigger' both activates and resets the mechanism and can be operated easily with just one hand.
There are several more useful dark brown recolors here and even more exciting: two entirely new elements that are very useful additions to the LEGO system.

Bricklist notes: Another set that has a very special place in my heart. I grew up on a dairy farm, so creating a classic barn playset was super fun! I made sure to include several stalls for animals, lots of gates to open and close, and of course a hayloft upstairs. It was important to me that there be plenty of space for play inside and out, and easy access to every area. The growing crops function was a fun extra detail, and something we had made quite a few variations of in past Minecraft sketch models. Quite happy with the new villager and hero character, plus it was fun to bring the chicken jockey back!

Bricklist notes: My second set to be released was also the second set focused on Minecraft Dungeons. The Jungle Abomination was an enjoyable change of pace from the primarily landscape focused 21165. Erik Jensen made the original sketch models and some details like the large flower in its torso stayed very similar throughout the development process. I love the chunky action figure style established by 21163 and found the whip-like function of Jungle Abomination's right arm to be a lot of fun to play around with.
There were a few nice color changes, most notably dark brown 2x4 bricks, which I'm very happy about.

Bricklist notes: I was assigned this set almost immediately after starting at the LEGO Group and it was a great model to learn the design processes with. Also was great seeing Elytra finally added to the world of LEGO Minecraft!

Bricklist notes: Erik Jensen and I both made sketch models of a panda house, and I was tasked with taking it through the development process. Which proved more of a challenge than I expected - since the house can be placed standing or sitting, it meant the structure had to be very solid in multiple orientations. Quite a lot of sideways building ended up being the solution.

Bricklist notes: The second animal house I designed for LEGO Minecraft, this one was much more straightforward than The Panda Haven. It was good to bring the dolphin back, and we tied that into a play feature with it able to lead you to buried treasure. A small detail I appreciated was the wet sponge block inside the house which the player presumably used to remove all the water.

Bricklist notes: Designing Sonic the Hedgehog sets was a blast, and very different than the Minecraft products I had primarily worked on before. The whole team spent loads of time perfecting the speed sphere and launcher: making sure kids could use it easily, that it didn't cause any safety risks, not fall apart too easily, but still be possible for kids to quickly take apart and place a character inside... Lots of factors to balance!
The large loop elements from Stuntz proved a perfect fit for the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog loops. In one play test a kid managed to send the speed sphere through three consecutive loops!
A modular track design for the level means you can create a simpler or more difficult course as you prefer.

Bricklist notes: Erik Jensen made the first sketch model, which gave a great starting point for the model. In fact it was mainly details and only slight adjustments I made taking it through development. It had been a long time since we visited the Mushroom Fields biome, and we took advantage of this set to make the rare brown mooshroom. Hinging the head gave some nice access to the storage space inside, but also lets you make the giant mooshroom look sideways, which I found amusing. One other little detail I was very happy with was the potted pink tulip inside.

Bricklist notes: Dungeons have become a staple of the LEGO Minecraft line, and I was happy to take this Zombie Dungeon all the way through development, from first sketch to final product.
The zombie spawning function utilizes Joe Kyde's clever solution from 21189.
Going vertical with the layout fit well with the layered world generation of Minecraft, and also made it easy to incorporate a sand trap function. First portrayal of rotten flesh in a LEGO Minecraft set; that's exactly the loot everyone hopes to find in a dungeon chest, right?
