The next addition to the ever popular Modular Buildings Collection has been unveiled!
Here's the press release:
10326 Natural History Museum
4,014 pieces, rated 18+
$299.99 / €299.99 / £259.99
Available to pre-order now on LEGO.com, for release on 1st December 2023
Today, the LEGO Group announces the arrival of its largest modular set by piece count and one of the most requested building themes by fans - the LEGO Icons Natural History Museum set.
The set is the perfect addition to the Modular Buildings Collection, and features fresh architecture, new building techniques and countless fun stories. The two-story model includes dual atriums, a removable roof and middle floor, and is packed with brick-built exhibits and details.
To the right of the entrance, visitors are welcomed by a giant brick-built Brachiosaurus skeleton. This dinosaur is so large, its neck rises above the first floor and stretches into the second. It’s flanked by several smaller exhibits including a sabretooth skull, a fossil, and yes, even dinosaur eggs. Up on the landing, the museum’s geology section showcases a colourful array of quartz, geodes, stalagmites and spotlighting a cutaway of the earth and its molten core.
Heading up to the second floor, witness a large map of the planet showing the projected orbit of a new rocket, a detailed orrery of the solar system, and a diorama of a future space base. Up on the roof, the museum’s curator recounts his experiences and travels in the detailed office, writing memoirs.
Get ready to go on a journey from the past to the future and celebrate key moments in world history with the LEGO Icons Natural History Museum set.

Nice :)
Love it! Been waiting for a museum for so long! Especially love the choice of colours!
I think that this looks better on it’s own than the Modular’s on the back of the box.
Whoever will do the review needs to put it between the Brick Bank and Palace Cinema - the other two storey buildings. And of course the 10243 Parisian Restaurant!
Would also be interesting to see it next to the Town Hall. To compare the two grandest modulars with it’s classical entrances
It's not perfect, but it could've been a lot worse. The overall design is very appropriate.
The illusion with the bulldog and the bone is hilarious.
Oh wow! I really like it.
The use of the whip for a large fossil is incredible.
Dr. Kilroy was here! The museum curator's face and attire has to be a reference to the classic Adventurers character from 7415 Aero Nomad :D
What a nice and original addition to the modular building line.
We have been so spoiled with this line since the beginning.
This is a must-have. I just finished a MOC natural history museum cobbled together from what I had lying around, but this is much nicer. Except the tree, I think I made a better tree--time for a transplant!
An actual modular I may buy after the poor showings recently
Absolutely delighted that it's a brick built dinosaur skeleton... was really worried that if might have ended up as the usual Playmobil type monstrosity!
Did TLG need to get the first release of a cool next-yearly set booked early in this year’s financials? Happy to oblige if so. Though would love it even more if it were three-storied.
It looks sooo good, but I can't afford it. It even has more pieces than Assembly Square!
Going to buy multiples of this and add at least two more floors.
Can't wait to see the 'add Pluto to the orrery ' Mocs.
Actually what I'm most excited for is that olive green masonry bricks are back! Hopefully they'll be on the Lugbulk list.
isnt this based on a MOC of a few years ago? Lepin made a version of that.
Bummer there aren't better photos of the interior details. There's a video on the site that gives a better glimpse, but I wish I didn't have to dig so deep to see the details of a set I might like to buy.
The dog is stealing a fossil!
I think I'll be waiting for the reviews on this one. It's impressive, but larger and more expensive, and from the limited photos I'm not sure how it will compare to the BH, PR, DO - which are my favourites of the modulars I own. I like the dinosaur but I'm not sure there is enough interior detail to justify the size and piece count.
But I might be wrong, I loved Assembly Square, that one I was also initially unsure about.
In any case, great to see a new idea, and I'm sure it will sell well with all the people complaining about smaller less impressive modulars lately!

Check Jay's Brick Blog for many more detailed photos. Definitely a first day buy for me.
I like it very much, but shouldn’t it have been much taller to underline its grandeur? I know it would even have more pieces and be more expensive, but it kinda dwarfs next to the Jazz Club and Boutique Hotel
I feel like an ingrate because I’ve long wanted and clamored for a natural history museum… and I don’t love this! The exterior doesn’t really wow me, and the interiors look like they’d be difficult to appreciate, given the small windows.
And the $300 price tag is more than I am willing to spend on a single set. I’m sure it’s much more impressive in person, but overall I’m not blown away by this as of today.
It is stunning, and I love it, and I really wish it was just a regular square-based one because there's no way I can rationalise spending that much on this. >.<
Oh my goodness, I see that updated Dr. Kilroy minifigure! The glasses, the beard, the red bow-tie, even the jacket from his Mount Everest wardrobe... I'd say all he's missing is his signature green pants, but he never actually wore them with the jacket so that actually makes sense.
Between Johnny in 71025-7, Mike in 71037-12, and - I've seen it suggested at least - possibly Pippin in 60267, and now this, I think we've definitely got an Adventurers fan somewhere on the minifigure design team! Plus of course Baron von Barron's mansion in 10273... if I had that set, I'd definitely see this one as a good 'home base' for the Adventurers team to complement it, and would want to fill it with little references to all the previous Adventurers subthemes.
As always not really for me, the one modular I do have is plenty for my collection, but definitely a very nice entry into the series ^^
Any rumors of a relevant GWP for this one like the Jazz Club/Moving Truck? Might be worth holding off for that.
Man this absolutely incredible. Could've had more civilian minifigures,but it's nothing I can't fix. And a 3rd floor wasn't necessary,cut it's already massive.
At first I thought the fact that they revealed it today was to make up for how late they revealed the Jazz Club last year, but then I realized it's because it's releasing in December and not January. Definitely seems like they'll get much more holiday sales for it this way.
Anyway, it looks really impressive. I want to pre-order, but I'm also wondering if there will be a companion GWP for it later on.

Not yet, but on one of the photos on Jay's brick Blog there is a conspicuous food/hotdog truck next to the museum that is definitely not an existing set. Could be speculated that this is the GWP of this year.

If I were you, I would wait. There are plenty good GWPs coming up, such as Majisto's Workshop in November for Black Friday. There is also a Black Friday 2x Insiders points weekend coming up.

Don't forget the Boutique Hotel had the vintage taxi GWP that came later as well. I'd expect something similar in this instance, though anyone's guess about what would be an appropriate side-build to go with the museum. An outdoor statue, perhaps?
Imagine how cheaper it would be if it would have open back. :P
I really love small builds inside, I will build that brachio for sure!

Hmmm, I was at least going to wait for the Galileo Galilei GWP, but knowing that, I might wait a little longer.

I saw one of the lifestyle pictures with a Hot Dog food truck on the side, I'm not sure if it's a GWP that will come out to pair up with it or it's unrelated. You can see the image in Beyond the Brick's Instagram post.

One of the lifestyle images on Jay's Brick Blog shows a Lego food truck sitting next to it on a shelf... possibly a GWP?
Not loving the olive green, I may have to replace that for a better colour.
First time we've ever seen a monolithic building on more than 1 plate
Could they have picked an uglier color than baby s*** green?
I would have preferred that the big skeleton was made entirely of white pieces, but I realize that the light blay parts could represent a metal frame that holds the bones together. BUT what is up with the dark blay parts in the middle of the trees?
I do like the curved windows that make up the skylight/roof. The way they used slopes to make the stairs is also neat.
Definitely in for one! I imagine some people will do amazing things with two or more, it feels like it'd be fantastic for expanding.

That is also a nice one. I might pick that up with this preorder, and get Majisto's Workshop with a few of the tiny plants, the Orient Express or the Avengers Tower end of Nov.
You had me at "Modular Museum." The price isn't so much a problem for me as the "Where would I put it?" question. I would definitely have to put some stuff in storage if I got this.
It looks great IMO. I'll add it to the "List of Sets I'll Get When I Have More $pace".
So will there be a special Modular GWP in 2024?
That Brachiosaurus has an extra-large tail! It seems that they have mixed the Diplodocus skeleton with the Brachiosaurus one...
This is the first time I can remember that the annual Modular isn't being released on January 1st. I'm used to arriving at my local store before the sun comes up to get in line, still either slightly drunk or hungover from the night before. LOL
Just be warned that preorders are for a set amount of sets. Once that number is reached, the option to preorder goes away. The Ornithopter set only lasted a few days on preorder before that option was removed. Again, just FYI...
Now that I look at it a bit longer, those die cut plastic banners will have to go. They'll just curl up over time and look bad. They don't look good with the set either. The exterior ugly green with the bright, colorful banners don't look good together. I guess the pink blossoms on the tree are also a bad contrast with the green, probably change those to regular green.
Beautiful and it will be going into the collection. It is regrettable however that this set as well as many other suffers from the questionable urge of always being bigger and bigger...
There's a nice promo vid on LEGO's Instagram with some better views of the interior.

Very delighted with this set. I'm a bit of a history buff (not really natural history, but whatever), so this is a must buy for me. Not really sure that it needed to be that big though.
Awesome choice for a modular building. I'm not a fan of the green, I think I might make it tan instead if I can. Cool stuff though!
Can't wait to get this and expand it to accommodate the skeletons from 21320, and maybe some prehistoric mammals from the 2018 City Arctic sets.
Out on 1st Dec. What are the chances that it has 24 bags and could be built during advent (like the Home Alone House)?
The last modulars that I bought were $160 and $170. Time matches on, I suppose.
Looks like a nice set though! Those columns are very well done.
The T. rex costume minifig 71037-6 and the upcoming Triceratops costume counterpart will make excellent docents.
That guy with white hair with glasses looks like Dr. Kilroy from the Adventures theme! adv033
It's great that it's released on 1st Dec. Any later and trivial stuff like heating bills might have got in the way!
The release date fits in perfectly for my partner to get it for me as a Christmas present - then I saw the price and cant really expect her to spend all that! I like it but cant help thinking it looks a bit squashed so will probably end up buying a ton more bricks to increase the height a bit. There is also a space issue, land is at a premium in my town (like any town I suppose) and I was not expecting a 48 stud wide model to fit in (I had calculated that I had enough room for 2 more years of Modulars but not any more!)
It's... A little dull...
I wonder if that's an Egyptian map in the office.
Is it just me, or do we normally get more pictures? I was expecting pictures of the interior, but the only ones offered are at the back of the box.
The only reason this is better than a museum I made is because of the roof, but a City can have more than one.
The set looks very good - but it should definitely be 3 story high - looks tiny beside the Jazz club . It should have the height and presence of the City Hall (even though the hall was bland, it was tall). Yes, there would be a cost issue but people asked for this for a long time, many reached 10000 on the idea program - you save for a bit longer and then you get it (all this applies for me as well - my collection is not big at all - like everyone, due to high costs).
BUT am i the only one thinking that there isn't many exhibits in this museum? There is the diplodocus/brachiosaurus the 2 fossils (a head and ammonite), and the solar system. They (Lego) could have done (1) room with snakes and frogs and spiders and butterflies, (2) a scenery of a cave man making fire with a big cat behind - both of these would not take much space. In the space department they could have added a 'historical' Mercury/Gemini/Apollo capsule - printed please! - (any one of those 3 would do - also does not require much room). Also a spaceman - silver painted - to depict the space suits they used back then - space fans would go nuts for that. While natural history museum are usually those grand large space, you do not have that luxury with Lego and the place should be crammed with exhibits (I think).
I will get this anyway (this will be roughly CAD$400 here). Most likely after the associated GWP is announced. (EDIT. apparently the hot dog truck has already been announced)
(haven't got the boutique hotel yet and just recently got the book shop - I'm getting behind...)
Love the museum theme but something is just off for me in this set. maybe the olive green, or the "simplistic" facade details. the roof design is the only part I like. I feel it just needs a bit more design development for the building details. and olive green doesn't really suit it. I would have to change the olive colour if I bought this and that's a big cons point. will only get this on a massive discount.
Purely personal opinion of course, and I see that I'm in the minority too, but I don't like it at all.
I especially dislike the fact that they once again didn't fit it on a 32x32 baseplate. I have all my Modular buildings in IKEA Detolf showcases since they are the perfect fit for 32x32 plates and anything that is based on them.
Also the reason why I still haven't built my Assembly Square yet. It might be a great modular, but I just have nowhere to put it.
And contrary to Assembly Square this new one doesn't appeal to me from other aspects either. I already have a Natural History Museum (made a MOC myself years ago) and the colour scheme looks awful to me. Ever since I was in the military I have an aversion to anything olive-coloured. It's like with the Parisian Restaurant. I liked everything about that one except for the colour.
And lastly the price is just too expensive imho as well. 300 Euro isn't Modular money for me.
I miss the days when Modulars were around 150 Euro RRP and could be had on sale for between 100 and 125. I don't need 4K pieces in a Modular anyway, most of which are 1x1s to begin with.
Second year in a row where I rather buy something else.
Natural History? So there isn't A Knight At The Museum?
i prefer the Lepin version from a few years ago

I'm thinking that our LEGO City will need to go Dutch and reclaim some land from the sea. Otherwise, the municipal construction crew will need to raze Diagon Alley to make way for progress (a museum is ever so enlightened). And that's going to set off a debate about gentrification and proper city planning. Of course, we never did get 10224, so instead of Town Hall, any dissidents will have to present themselves at 10305, and while the Queen is a benevolent monarch, she really does enjoy a good fossil exhibit, so....
neat but for that price it should have another floor
And again one wonders where the high piece count comes from. This looks way too small for that count even on the official photos compared to the Boutique Hotel and Jazz Club.
The color choice is also surprising as this must be one of the ugliest Lego color available at least imho.
Already pre-ordered. And mercifully in a window without yet another GWP I would have to find a home for. Appreciate this coming in December too, nice to have something more substantial to build during the holidays since it doesn't seem we're getting something in the coliseum/titanic/eiffel tower range this year.
This new Animal Crossing set is pointless without a Blathers minifig.
I'm a huge Jurassic Park collector, so this is right up my alley. Love the brachiosaurus skeleton and banner.
"This dinosaur is so large, its neck rises above the first floor and stretches into the second"
Can only see a ground and first floor? Will the UK version be taller? ??
A bit too much (At least in Canada), and its size is deterring but it's a nice build and I expect after market value to be one of the higher ones of the series once it's retired.
Side question - how many of you do anything with the inside of these builds once on display? Do you let your kids play with it? One of the reasons I stopped buying these sets is that I feel I'm paying for tons of interior bricks that I never see or use.
For a 1.5x size modular like Assembly Square and at this 1.5x price point, it just seems insubstantial, both on height as well as interior. Am I really in a significant minority here?
@Zink said:
"Finally! A Freud minifig"
I don’t think it symbolizes Freud. Sometimes a minifig is just a minifig.
I personally HATE the Olive Green on this. Would rather see Dark Tan all the way on this with tiling. (I guess piece count budget stopped that going all the way up the building)
Otherwise looks to be a good model.
Who is the Museum Curator supposed to represent? The designer said it was a reference to something. My first instinct is Krux but I don’t think that’s right.

Not at all. All things considered, and even with all its qualities, this set is, in general, somewhat underwhelming (there seems to be different themes for different persons: height, colour, price, value, all of the above, etc).
It is just that it is a new offering compared to the usual fare - was highly requested, many Ideas proposals etc. Wait when Lego finally do a modular train station (many great Ideas proposals as well).

Yeah I agree. Sand yellow would probably look better than olive green.
I mean, it's a cool idea, but this doesn't have a $300 wow factor to me. I've never spent that much on a lego set before but if I did this would be low on the list. The dinosaur exhibit seems like the only one that would be cool to build in my opinion--the rest seem like things I could throw together already in about thirty seconds with about ten bricks from my collection. The point of a museum is having cool exhibits, and while the ideas are there, the builds don't really have a wow factor. And the exterior seems pretty average for a modular, so I feel like this is really relying on the cool concept.
Count me in the group of those who really wanted a museum, but that are somewhat disappointed by the color. Olive green was a great choice for the Parisian Restaurant, but here...? Maybe it'll grow on me.
I kind of wish they'd try new stuff instead of coming back to Sand Green and Olive Green so much. I guess we all expected Tan or White with some greys, but it would have been a great opportunity to get a new creamy or greyish white too.
Ahh well, I'll just wait a little bit for a GWP and it'll be in the lineup like all others... Still looks like a great build overall!
Was hoping for something a bit more gothic, like the NHM in London rather than this American inspired building

Ok, I watched the relevant bits of this extremely long video: a bit more to see but I still stand with my ideas of what should be there. Broken glass stuff, takes lots of space for nothing. Of note: the designer put the tiniest 10497 possible at just 2 parts I think. Mind you, I will get the thing, its just that there are several ways it could have been better without being more expensive than it is already.
Since my wife is a museum curator, I think the bearded gentleman in this set is going to be forced into early (?) retirement and replaced with a minifig of my wife. Which I guess means I need to make a minifig of my wife.
As a building it looks great.
As a museum, the Olive color is all wrong.
Nothing a simple color swap won’t fix!
Yes!
@HOBBES I totally agree. I was hoping for something like the Ninjago History Museum in the Ninjago City Gardens with a bunch of exhibits referencing the history of the minifig and Lego itself not just the 3 hats and micro scale sets fkr Castle, Forestman and Pirates.

yeah, the color is a dealbreaker for me. would love to add a museum to my City, but looks like i'll have to moc something (in a nicer color than barf green) instead.
I really like this being the olive green color. I will probably place this between the BB and PS both tan buildings, so I am glad it's not tan. I remember thinking the olive green was not good for the PR as it is not a color I care for, but it looked great & PR is still my favorite modular.
The facade looks interesting, but I was expecting more from the interior. I was geared up to go off-theme and get this because of the subject matter, but upon seeing it it’s an easy pass for me…
This looks really cool! I just (weirdly) wish it weren’t so big, or that it had been released several years ago when I still would have had room for it in my city. I technically already have a MOC museum, and I’m too attached to the prior sets to replace any. I realize “too many good modulars” is a great problem to have, though, and it’s awesome the theme has given us so many great things!

Sand greed or sand yellow would probably look 100x better than olive green. It would look better as a rustic feel in my opinion olive green just doesn’t fit a building like a museum.

I get what you're saying, but I think they've done a good job over the years maintaining variety between the buildings and avoiding a single plain color.
I could imagine that this was an old mansion or public building of some kind that was turned into a museum.
I can't believe no one has mentioned the fossilized dino poop on display.
Blimey, could be my first modular!
Beautiful.
Edit: wait, who am I kidding...? A little too spendy for me!
This is one Modular I actually like. But the space exhibits belong next door in the Science Museum.

You mean the whip on the wall? Isn't that supposed to be an ammonite?
I'm torn. On the one hand 300 EUR is a lot of money, on the other hand it would serve as perfect counterpoint to Town Hall in my city layout. But the footprint means I'd lose half a plate of "real estate" in my city.

Well, they are both there.
I am in the it’s-the-wrong-color camp. Plus i find the exhibition a bit lackluster. Might i buy this set i shall make it an art-museum. Or a museum with jewels to steal from. I do like the brachio skeleton and the roof. But it could do with some more height (not necessarily a new floor).
And to complain even more, i wish those banners were just printed tiles.
About the gwp: i’d rather had some extra fossils or dino-skeletons to change the exhibition every now and then
The set looks amazing to me!
I know the olive green color has been divisive, but I like the way it's accented by the dark tan and dark brown, and while it looks good for the exterior I especially like the look it gives to the interior walls (which feel appropriately formal for this kind of museum).
I'm impressed with it architecturally, the proportions feel nice and I like the way the front columns are designed to "split" when you separate the floors. The exhibits are cute—the interview with Tiago on his YouTube shows them off in more detail. Obviously the star of the show is the big dinosaur fossil, which does a good job of having both a dynamic pose and a realistic amount of reinforcement to make sure it can hold the pose.
The tree out front looks good to me and I like the colors. The dark grey bands remind me of metal braces I've seen on some trees in urban settings, which I presume are meant to help support the tree and direct its growth upward so that it doesn't become unstable in the future.
The roof of the museum looks great, and I especially love the skylights and the little alcoves for the trophy figs in the left and right wings. The proportions of the building allow them to use those 2x8 rail plates to good effect for the white entableture between the walls and roof.
Personally I'm a fan of the use of vinyl sheets for the banners on the front of the museum, coming from themes like Monkie Kid, Elves, and Ninjago where that kind of detail is more common. Since they are punched out of a flat sheet they shouldn't curl or deform, especially since they'll likely be packed in the same cardboard "sleeve" as the instruction manual (which will prevent them from being curled or folded inside the packed box).
It needs another level as it looks a bit short.
"and a diorama of a future space base."
Hmmm... I wonder
Received a LEGO email a couple of hours ago advertising specifically this, but also announcing the moving truck as a gwp with purchases of £160 or more. I didn’t notice a date range.
Not sure you’ll fit too many bones in that one.
Looks good. I'll get it when they have a double points promotion.

Black Friday should have that. Plus some potentially interesting GWPs
Finally a museum. I like it, it'sa nice addition to my city.
I am a bit surprised it's released on Dec, 1st and not January as usual.
Remember to wait and buy this once Lego offers the matching GWP (like moving truck for jazz club, vintage taxi for boutique hotel). Always buy with GWP, double points, and/or on sale.
I buy very few modulars but I plan to buy this once it's on some kind of discount.
I've been able thus far to resist the allure of the Modular Buildings, but this one may break the streak!
This has to be the single most disappointing modular released by Lego. It is so bad, it makes me reconsider my disinterest in the few modulars I skipped such as the Corner Garage. Although I like the individual interior pieces, especially the brachiosaurus, the building itself is not aesthetically pleasing at all! The olive green color is a poor choice, and the proportions of the columns is off-putting. I would have preferred four columns (two on each side) similar to the city hall modular with a shortened height (something midway between the height of the columns on city hall and the columns here). If Lego wanted to use a unique predominant color, how about introducing sand red in a wider selection of bricks than currently exists (I'm drawing inspiration from the real-life Egyptian Museum of Antiquities in Cairo)?

"The set looks very good - but it should definitely be 3 story high - looks tiny beside the Jazz club .
(haven't got the boutique hotel yet and just recently got the book shop - I'm getting behind...)"
100% agree, and I really like some of your additional suggestions.
While the current number of exhibits is a bit underwhelming I at last may have an opportunity to house the fast amount of historical minifigures and other printed pieces that have been begging for a home for years.

No, the brown poop piece that's under a dome. It's in the LEGO video & the designer shows it in Tiago's video.
The exterior design and colors are nicely done in such a way that it conveys the image of a big museum, but still fits into the small-town feel of most of the other Modulars.
This just feels a bit lazy to me? 1.5 baseplates is a lot of real estate and I don’t feel the most has been made of it and the colour is not nice. I’ll get it but only as a modular completist. A bit underwhelming!

I get that they were afraid of having to map every planet they might discover in the Kuiper Belt, but they used bad logic to justify demoting Pluto. Anyone who looks at a side view of the solar system can tell you that 99.999999999% of Pluto’s orbit is more clear than any of the other eight planets’ orbits. Pluto and Charon should technically be classified as a binary planet, since they orbit a point located between them, not within Pluto.
@raygunn:
It’s not really Christmas-themed, though. Home Alone was.
Anyways, I missed my one chance to do that. I rushed to get my copy built in one day (Saturday after Thanksgiving) at our Festival of Trees display, so I could have it in our layout at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s annual Home Alone concert, and then they opted to hold off on bringing us back for another year. Now it’s built, and committed to a weeklong appearance in mid-December every year. I’d have to buy a third copy to do the Advent build (Not. Happening.), or I guess I could build a digital version. It’s not really the same, though, and it would take a lot of work that I might not be able to get done on a daily basis.
@IgelCampus:
I would assume there’s a distinct lack of 2x4 bricks. My LEGO Store is shaped like a giant 2x4 brick that fills two baseplates, and it ran over 5000pcs with just one floor. The exterior walls took two PAB holiday boxes worth of red 1x2 bricks, plus a few more. Small pieces add up a lot faster than you’d think.
This is the first modular building in a while that's looked like something someone who's not into modulars and isn't sure about committing to collecting them might pick up as their first one.
I almost absolutely love it!
I would have chosen different colours, but other than that (actually it is kind of a big deal) it looks pretty marvellous.
It will probably be way too expensive to exchange most, if not all, of the olive green for another colour. In Amsterdam there are quite a lot of black buildings with white accents. I would be interested to see it in that 'noncolour', it will look nice in either of the two main colours used for the Jazz Club: dark red, and light 'cool' yellow, used for the pizzeria, but it is customary not to use the same dominant colours for successive modular sets. Vibrant coral, or (light) lavender are two other colours which I think might be suitable for this neoclassical building as well.
In all cases, I would probably go to some degree for other complimentary colours as well, when opting to swap colours.
Does anybody else thinks this looks small? Like I know it's in scale with the other modulars, and it's one and a half baseplates wide, but for some reason it looks small to me. I think it's mainly the height. The other 1.5 baseplate modular, Assembly Square, has some components with more height that look more imposing. This just seems less impressive to me. I still like the idea and the execution is pretty nice, I just expected it to look a little bigger. Maybe it's just the angles in the pictures/renders and I'll appreciate its size more in person.

The designer has indicated that it’s a reference to an earlier character. I’m with J0rgen and BaconKing in thinking it’s Dr Kilroy. The similarities are too great for it not to be. Here’s the old version: https://images.brickset.com/minifigs/large/adv033.jpg
@HOBBES There are other exhibits beyond the fossils and orrery. There's some geology stuff and pottery on the first floor, and the second floor has some stuff about a space mission, some microscale recreations of old Lego sets, and some stuff off to the left (facing away from the street) that I can't quite identify (but there seems to be a telescope on the wall over there).
Also, I don't mind the color. I'm happy to have the olive green. Maybe that's just because I don't have a lot of that and will likely need to borrow some for a project next year, though.
My first thoughts were the details taken from other modulars
Window cleaner in carriage - why we had one in grand empriomum
Tree - similar construction to book shop
Main wiindow above door - ver similar to brick bank
Also this size / price was hoping for brick built letters or date
It seems to be missing something - cant put finger on what
I've just pre-ordered. I have every modular from Cafe Corner to Assembly Square, but I've been out of the game for a few years. This will be a nice addition to my modular streets.
I'm planning on adding a 3rd floor, without the cutout holes. It'll hold ancient artifacts since I'm fluent in Latin and Ancient Greek!! Perhaps a mummy, Elgin Marbles, statues and mosaics

BB is white with light bluish grey, and the two buildings of the PS are dark red and sand blue.
Where’s the tan supposed to be on those?
The only Modular to date that was mostly tan was GE. DD was partly tan, as was PC, but both don't fit the new set architecturally, so there's no reason this one couldn't have been a better colour than this baby poop olive green.

This is gorgeous. I have avoided the Modular’s so far. Always found them cool, but only one or two of them did I pine for, just didn’t wanna pony up the dough. This, however, has broken me. And I’ll probably get a couple of the others to compliment it, as well
It is just me or do the modular buildings keep getting shorter?
I mean, this is nice and all, but one of these days I would really love to get a modular hospital for my city. It's got fire and police stations, needs some medical assistance to round out the trio.

This is really lackluster. The exterior is the plainest modular we've seen in awhile. For the size and cost it's an easy pass.

And I agree with other posters, it would be better being three storeys. There’ll be loads of MODS no doubt.
Also, it should just be called a museum, not a natural history museum as only part of it relates to natural history. Stuff like pottery and exhibits of the future do not belong in a natural history museum.

I worked at the Field Museum in Chicago and it absolutely has archaeological artifacts in its purview. There is an entire house-sized room in the bowels of the place devoted to Kenyan pottery because of one curator's obsession. Future-oriented stuff is a bit more of a reach but that kind of thing would come through on a visiting basis. I think that would be even more true in a museum in a smaller town (Chicago also has the Museum of Science and Industry, which is perhaps more of a natural home for space-themed exhibits).
Is Venus the small purple orb? It looks closer to the Sun, so the bigger red should be Mars, and of course the Bkue is Earth. But Venus is bigger than Mars, almost as big as the Earth. And it should be yellow, no?
I never knew there were so many olive green haters out there.
Personally it's one of my favorite Lego colors, especially when paired with dark tan.
I stopped collecting modular buildings but this is stunning.

The only NHM I’ve got experience of is the one in London which to my knowledge only has displays of fauna and flora. Not pottery or spaceships, which would be in another museum like the British Museum or the V&A. And this goes back to my other point about the design of the building being US inspired rather than the incredible gothic NHM in London.
i think the way they photographed this makes the proportions look off. It looks better in the set handling photo. I'm glad its one whole building and I do wonder if it needs another floor, but I think that's down to photography. The olive green looks off until the last photo too.
It has a sort of supernatural look about it. I think it will grow on me.

Personally I don't mind the olive green, but I do find it a strange choice given that 10273 put a lot of olive green on the market just a few years ago (which made me happy since I used a lot to build a Olive Green Green Grocer)
Great classic design, maybe needs more display items. A large telescope in the circular dome on a turntable would have added to the play-ability.

The Police Station is mainly tan & the Brick Bank is tan on the top part. So if the museum was also tan, it would not stand out from those sets. The others you list GE, DD & PC are tan as well, that's a lot of tan buildings. It is nice that the museum is not tan too.
Tan, olive green, dark orange are all colors that were popular in the 70's. Which are the main colors used in the modulars. It's not my favorite color palette, but they go well together. So this being olive green, goes well with lots of the modular buildings, since many are dark orange as well.

They really seem to be styled that way. Even though the brick count can be comparable or higher than the older modular, the lack of height does make them less impressive in my opinion.
I'll wait for a more detailed review & images. But I stopped being that into modulars since the police station onwards.
I was wondering what colour the new Modular would be and thought we were due something in olive green as the PR was 10 years ago and we haven't seen anything in olive since then... I think the colour looks good - think a stone building which hasn't been cleaned for a while and is a bit grimy and I think we are there with this colour. The trouble is with lots of people saying it is too short, there will be a run on olive bricks on BL...
Looks disappointingly simple
Lessee ... Ground floor, left to right: geology (cross-section of Earth on the left wall), lobby, paleontology (sauropod; inset photo: skull, fossil shell, coprolite under bell jar). First floor: Topic unclear, space science (orbit over Earth, rocket and gantry, orrery), unclear (anchor, naval bicorn, tiny ship, forestman's cap, helmet).
I've visited many science/history museums internationally (DC, Philadelphia, New York, Dublin, Darmstadt, Prague, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taichung) and there's a lot of variation in content and how the museum is branded ("natural history" or otherwise). Even so, the room with hats seems an odd duck -- maybe it's meant to be "history of exploration"? If so, a pith helmet and scuba gear would've made more sense. As for the geology wing, I'd've emphasized with more mineral samples (which are easy elements to include).
Of course, like any other Modular it's easy enough to swap-in your own furnishings if you're not happy with the stock selection.

My guess as to why the printed tile just says “museum “.

I quit buying modulars when they crossed the $200 threshold. Now that they've passed the $300 threshold, all I can do is shake my head. I remember buying the Cafe Corner at retail for $135.
A museum is a fun, unique idea for a modular. I'm not convinced that they nailed the execution, but the concept is sound.

Cafe Corner released in 2007 at 140 USD retail. 140 USD then equals around 200 USD now. Cafe Corner had 2000 pieces, the Museum has 4000 pieces. Even while there are more smaller pieces in the Museum, you cannot deny that it is about 50% bigger, and I thus do not see how the Museum suddenly is considered to be crazy expensive at 300 USD now, while Cafe Corner was considered to be reasonably priced at the time at 140 USD (which is, again, 200 USD now). Seems like some people do not understand the concept of inflation, and think that when something cost 140 USD in 2007, it should also cost 140 USD now.

I guess @kwickbrick doesn't own Brick Bank and is just going by the official marketing pictures, which make it seem as if it was tan, but like you said, that's an optical illusion. The top part is white, with accents in light and dark bluish grey. The only two or three tan pieces on the building are below the top floor windows of the laundromat to the side of the bank.
And @kwickbrick : I was indeed thinking of the Pet Shop when you mentioned PS, since I haven't yet had the time to build my Police Station and it's therefore not as present in my mind. My bad.
Brutally disappointing. Everyone wanted a museum and to miss this badly on such a layup raises serious questions about the decision making process. Screwing up the color two years in a row is a sign of a clear problem. Everyone loves dark red and olive green but just because a color is great doesn't mean you can misuse it. The interior is an even bigger issue. So many cool things you can do and they did nothing except the dinosaurs.
A museum should not be drab and lifeless. TLG needs to give the modular line some TLC. Don't kill the golden goose.

I respect your list and there is absolutely truth there. However MSRP's over the last several years far outpace inflation. In fact, the MSRP's are kind of laughable on a simply percentage basis.

I do own the Brick Bank but I changed most of the white, to tan. I preferred the tan as a local bank here with arched windows, is tan. So I guess it shouldn't count as tan, since it's not the official color. I haven't built the Police Station yet either, but the other colors, may clash with the olive green. I may need to get Jazz Club after all.
@SummerSanta:
Sets have gotten a lot larger, with higher piece counts (cost to produce a piece is mostly tied up in the process and labor, not the amount of plastic used), and the quantity of new sets has skyrocketed over the last 20 years. It's really easy to forget that, while you may have only bought a dozen sets per year in the 90's, now you may be pushing 100 without even realizing it. Or, you've moved on from modest $20 sets to $200 behemoths. But price per piece has stayed remarkably stable over the past 40 years. Sets based around minifigs still often run in the $0.10/pc range, and bulk buckets and boxes can be found well under that, so it's not that the same X amount of set costs a lot more than it used to. You're just buying more X.
This is especially true if you're a completist. Consider that there are at least two waves of Star Wars sets that include more sets, and more total piece count, than the entire theme had in 1999. There are far more themes now than there were back then, as well. It's really easy to dip into a new theme and suddenly find you're trying to stay complete in _just_one_more_, without counting up how many there were previously.

"I feel like an ingrate because I’ve long wanted and clamored for a natural history museum… and I don’t love this! The exterior doesn’t really wow me, and the interiors look like they’d be difficult to appreciate, given the small windows.
And the $300 price tag is more than I am willing to spend on a single set. I’m sure it’s much more impressive in person, but overall I’m not blown away by this as of today. "
I feel the same. I love love love the idea of any museum, art gallery or science center but this just isn't doing it for me. The walls seem kinda bare like the room with just one anchor on the whole wall besides the tiny windows. The middle room on the second floor has the opposite problem and looks empty aide from the walls, and the floor is just bare studs. I mean I'm getting really nitpicky here but for $300, I'm gonna be.
Then there the reuse (or maybe homage?) to way too similar things recently or still available. The tree outside is a combo of the birch book tree and the bonsai tree, the statues are similar to the Rivendell ones, the dino skeletons we just had with similar 21320
I do like the exterior colors, love the banners, the space wall hangings, the columns, the windowed roof, the minifigs, and that broken statue the guy is sweeping up. I dunno, I think if there's a big enough discount, I'd consider buying it.

Good call!

I never understood that "completist" behaviour. What's that about?
Do these people also go to the supermarket and if they like Kelloggs Cornflakes they feel a need to buy one packet of each of Kelloggs' offerings, even if they don't intend to eat them.
Or do they buy a new car, say a Mercedes (to keep with the "LEGO is a luxury toy" logic) and then they need to buy one of every currently available Mercedes model?
Completism might kind of make sense for collectibles, but LEGO is simply a kids toy, and one that for every theme they do make sets that are awesome as well as those that are mediocre at best.
Why should anyone want to collect all of them? Doesn't make any sense to me.

"I quit buying modulars when they crossed the $200 threshold. Now that they've passed the $300 threshold, all I can do is shake my head. I remember buying the Cafe Corner at retail for $135.
A museum is a fun, unique idea for a modular. I'm not convinced that they nailed the execution, but the concept is sound. "
Seems like some people do not understand the concept of inflation, and think that when something cost 140 USD in 2007, it should also cost 140 USD now."
My comment was related the COST, not the VALUE. I’d prefer to see Lego release more $140 modular buildings, even if it means they get smaller. The VALUE of a $300 set is irrelevant to me. It doesn’t matter if it has 4000 pieces, 8000 pieces, or a million pieces. I still can’t afford it. Lego is constantly pushing the COST upwards (even while keeping the VALUE relatively stable-ish). I bet they could make some very cool $140 modular buildings, but they have chosen not to, and I find that increasingly frustrating.
Dinosaur Fossils: T.rex Skull (76964) would look great with this set
@JDawg5:
And that’s a legitimate issue for many people. Most people who complain about the rising prices refer to a sets of comparable value getting more expensive over time, which just isn’t supported if you run the numbers. But just because the sets have grown larger over the past two decades doesn’t mean everyone’s budget has kept pace. For me, the relief valve is MOCs. When there are more sets I want to buy, it comes at the expense of being able to build physical MOCs. Or sometimes I have to pass on something I really want…or recognize that I don’t actually _want_ it so much as I’m being caught up in appreciating that it’s a really impressive model.
Maybe it's because I've just disassembled the Town Hall, but I have to say I'm slightly underwhelmed and it does remind me a lot of the TH.
This is one I will need to see in the flesh. Won't be a day one purchase for me but will definitely get it.

"It is just me or do the modular buildings keep getting shorter?"
No. You're getting taller. Congratulations.
Looks very nice and I like the choice of a museum theme. But I prefer modulars that stick to the square footprint and go taller as opposed to wider and shorter. I've not much space left in my Lego modular display.
