Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 7

Posted by ,

The wrapping station revealed yesterday has a clip on either side, suggesting there might be some connecting modules to come from the Avengers Advent Calendar.

Let's see whether another arrives today...

Our third minifigure emerges instead and this version of Black Widow, like Spider-Man before, wears a charming festive jumper. The knitted style is again effective and Black Widow's symbol is displayed on the front, although with a Christmas tree inside on this occasion! The blue colour does not feel suited to Black Widow though.

Nevertheless, splendid detail continues on the back, where the Avengers logo is topped with a classic Santa hat! Natasha's hair element and double-sided head have remained the same for several years now and I have never been entirely convinced by either, but the determined and calm facial expressions work for her personality, in my opinion.

The minifigure wields a bar of trans-light blue 4L bars, representing Black Widow's electroshock batons and returning from many of her past appearances. Hopefully they will not be needed for the Christmas season!

Overall - Blue does not particularly suit Black Widow, in my opinion, but this minifigure is very appealing, nonetheless.

Why the long face? Don't you like your sweater?

That is a great sweater.

Ugly sweaters are making a great alternative to the annual Santa figure. More, please. (Particularly if we get an X-Men calendar next year. I can't see Wolverine agreeing to a sweater, but Deadpool could probably wear something appropriately obnoxious.)

Google “snow maiden story Russian Christmas” and look at images.

Seems to me the guys at LEGO are right on the money dressing Black Widow in blue. The white trim on her sweater is reminiscent of the trim on the Snow Maiden’s coat, and there is even snow falling on both the front and back of her sweater.

Aw! Poor Natasha.

Odd. It's like we have Barbara Gorden, but with Nightwing's colors and batons. I'm not sure which continuity this one is from, and if I should call her Nightwing or Batgirl.

Either way, we now have someone to defend yesterday's section of the Batcave from Mr Freeze and the Penguin's invasion with their robot snowman. Besides christmas-colored Cyborg of course! Oh, and red hood. At least, if he's not a villain.

The plot thickens...

For added trivia:

In the comics, Natasha died in 2017 when she was killed by an evil version of Steve Rogers. Then it turned out that the Red Room had a stockpile of Black Widows on standby and a new Natasha was eventually released. I understand they left it ambiguous as to whether it was actually a clone who died and the real Natasha actually got out. Anyway, there's comic precedence to have a bunch of Natasha minifigures running around. (And Spider-Men. And at least one extra Jean Grey.)

I will admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the blue color on Kang Widow here, but the Avengers logo on the back makes me smile and that's what matters most.

And yes, there are many infamous girl variants of Kang out there, my fellow Kanglovers. The most dedicated of Marvel fans will no doubt remember her triumphant moment in Avengers 129: Kangn't Stop Me Now - this sweater is a clear tribute to that legendary finale.

That’s not an Avengers logo. It’s a “scarlet A”. See? It’s got a little dash of red in the upper right.

Of course the Avengers version of the scarlet A is on the back.

What does any of this have to do with Kang

That's if you didn't know. If you do, I honestly have no clue. Maybe Black/Kang Widow is a secret sinner?

We don't talk about the Clone Saga. Unless you meant the Spider-Verse, in which case I apologize for doubting you.
