Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 9

Posted by ,

Yesterday's robotic reindeer was an odd addition to an Avengers-themed Advent Calendar, so I am curious to learn what day nine will produce.

Something equally wacky could be fun...

Captain America is quite the opposite of wacky, but an essential character and thus a welcome addition to the calendar. This minifigure wears Cap's attire from the first Avengers movie, which has appeared just twice before. The brighter blue patches on the torso look marvellous and the whole design corresponds with the movie.

However, I always think Captain America should include dual-moulded legs because he wears dark red boots in the films. Also, I wonder whether there was an opportunity to include a new version of the character here. Even if it had meant omitting one of the seasonal characters, I would have been delighted to see Captain America's garb from The Winter Soldier, which has never appeared in minifigure form.

Cap's helmet is sadly not included, but his shield does accompany the minifigure and I like the double-sided head used for Steve Rogers, with happy and determined expressions. I think this medium nougat hair element looks nice too, but the hero's helmet could have been provided as an alternative. Maybe that will appear later in the Advent Calendar.

Overall - Captain America is extremely popular and this minifigure is relatively uncommon, so I am pleased to see it here.

Never mind his helmet, I would have loved him to come with a Santa hat

How about a Santa shield? Captain North Pole?

Hey, it's Steve Trevor from Wonder Woman! The getup is a bit over the top for an American pilot, but I guess he's from WWII so it's probably not that weird.
Odd how we've been getting all sorts of characters that are not exactly around anymore during the current continuity of the films though. I guess these characters are still more popular than whatever new debuts we're being dogpiled with right now.

The prior commenters are spelling Marty McFly in such a strange way.

I think we can all agree that a hat stand would be a new low for lazy Advent Calendar filler models.

@Binnekamp:
The Wonder Woman film was set during the biplane era of WWI, not the metal-winged era of WWII.

My bad. I've seen the film years ago and not a whole lot about it stuck with me.

@Binnekamp:
Traditionally, Steve is a WWII pilot, but they decided to shift it to WWI because they felt WWII films are a bit overdone these days. And I can’t really fault that logic. Hollywood has even seen a shift to cover WWI more, with War Horse, 1917, and the documentary They Shall Not Grow Old. Plus, it was probably also a move to swipe the “first” claim from some other company, by establishing that Wonder Woman has been fighting bad guys in the DCEU for a few decades longer.

Day 9? More like July 4.

Happy Kangdependence Day from Captain Kangmerica.

Could have at least used a red scarf. Adds a bit of winter charm for those that already have a dozen Cap's, and still provides a usable Cap for those that don't.

That’s because it was, unfortunately, an eminently forgettable, poorly-executed ripoff of the plot of the first Captain America movie.

Wouldn’t know. When I recorded it on my DVR, the first half dozen times I tried to watch Captain America: The Elephant Tranqulizer, I was out like a light before they even got past the WWII part. I’ve seen static, unplugged TVs, and golf that Id rather rewatch.

Because there was no Batman cameo at the end. Got it.

"The linework on the torso looks a bit blotchy, but for the rest... the paint-application looks surprisingly good. Verdict on the Capn, @CapnRex101?"

Or.... does the barely-white on the torso match the shield?

I would need to see a white brick next to see if it sticks.
