Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 13

Posted by ,

Yesterday saw the arrival of a workbench, likely designed for Tony Stark. I wonder whether day thirteen will present something to confirm this association.

There is only one way to find out...

It seems not, as we instead receive our next minifigure. Okoye is an interesting addition to this Advent Calendar and slightly unexpected, as the other characters have been more prominent within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, I welcome the representation from Wakanda, not least because this opens the possibility of some Wakanda-focused models to come.

This exact version of Okoye, sporting her formal Dora Milaje attire, has appeared once before, but similar designs are also found in two more sets. The level of detail is impressive, especially on the tattoo across the back of the head, which is brilliantly intricate. However, I think decorated legs are conspicuous by their absence, given the outstanding torso design.

Okoye wields a spear onscreen and this recreation is more ornate than others we have seen. The standard spear element is a better match for the shape of the Dora Milaje's spears, but I like the golden band on this one, which reflects the source material.

Overall - Okoye is a good addition to this Advent Calendar, but I wish the opportunity had been taken to introduce printed legs.

Chewing on this now, I wonder why they went with Okoye instead of Shuri as Black Panther. If multiple heads are too much, they could have just gone with an unmasked Shuri (look, Steve was unmasked too) and still included the spear.

ResIpsaLoquitur: I was thinking of Shuri as well, because she'd be the perfect to a workbench.

Gah. There really isn’t any way to say this that doesn’t sound dirty, but she’s got a bit of flash on her crotch, and I can’t unsee it.

Not even Wakanda - or in this case, WaKangda - can escape the might of the Conquerer himself.

Okoyekang is the new ruler of WaKangda after single-handedly tossing the Black Panther off a cliff during trial by combat (you think the world's most advanced supernation would have a more secure means of establishing new leadership!) and now rules as one of the many Kangs across the multiverse. Of course, you already know this - Avengers 499: Kang Of The Hill was a fan-favorite that chronicles these events quite fully.

WaKangda forever!

Actually ... (pushes glasses up nose) ... in Avengers 92: Kangsequential Events, it was revealed that Loki was actually a Kang all along. If you truly knew the Kang Cinematic Universe lore, you would know that. We shall see if this KCU calendar provides us with a Christmas sweater Loki, in which case, we shall have even further evidence.

(Legit tho a Christmas sweater Loki would be a fun addition here)

By in United Kingdom,

Nothing against Okoye, but I kinda wish Lego would give us a couple of different Dora Milaje once in a while, so we can build a proper army, rather than using clones

This character is so obscure I can't find her in any of the DC films or animated series. Therefore she must not exist.

Look, I only care about one thing, and that’s Batman. And purple, so that’s two things, I guess. But if I cared about a third thing, it…would not be the Spanish Inquisition, so don’t worry about that. Probably Harley Quinn. So, yeah, three things. If I did actually care about a fourth thing, it would have to be finding out how many games of mahjong he has to play before he can win entirely by scoring kongs.

What do you mean? You HAD TO at least once hear about Amanda Waller, even if you never watched the 2016 masterpiece Suicide Squat.

Yeah that's a typo, but I love it way too much to correct it.

I repressed that movie so much I think I never did watch it. But I'm pretty sure she was too buff to bother benching a spear like this. Not even any weights on it!
