Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 15

Posted by ,

The contents of the Avengers Advent Calendar have been mixed in quality, thus far, due partly to the only occasional connections between the minifigures and the models.

Hopefully a degree of consistency will begin to emerge today...

I suppose this Advent Calendar is showing a degree of consistency, as most of the items arriving recently have been poor. However, I think we have reached a new low today, with a rack to keep some accessories. The trans-light blue 1x1 round brick is odd, but presumably intended to attach Iron Man's helmet, which in turn leaves me wondering why Tony's hair piece was not included on day one.

Overall - Accessory racks are bad, but accessory racks with no distinctive characteristics and no accessories are worse.

I... guess that's where the hokey stick is stored?

Boo! A rack with nothing!? Lame.
This calendar has been a rather poor showing, especially since it is 'themed' (sarcastic quote marks for the weak, tenuous links several of the builds have to the Marvel brand) and therefore premium-priced.
I've held off on buying it this year - normally I get these A.C.s - and I do not feel I've missed out on many days so far. That Quinjet was pretty sweet though...

An accessory rack that doesn't even include any accessories seems really poor.

I think it'd be doing this calendar a favour if Dreadflipper showed up and took them all out.

Tony Stark's lighthouse.

In theory, you put the hockey stick, spear, and Black Widow's batons here.

Maybe it's supposed to be the pedastal that held the Orb in Guardians of the Galaxy. But then, it needs an Orb.

Anyway.

Star Wars fans after years of pointless Weapons Racks in advent calendars:

"Yes! That's how it feels!"

Behold! The holy tube! The invasion of Mr Freeze and the Penguin has finally brought them to the heart of the Batcave and now Mr Freeze has found what he has been looking for! With this tube of pure chrystonium he can finally save his wife. But unfortunately Batman doesn't want him to, as who is Batman without his rogue gallery to make him feel like he's filling the hole left by his parents? So Batman actually hid it elsewhere in a different calender. Unbeknownst to Mr Freeze it's actually supposed to look more like a crystal with four smaller crystals jutting out from each side.

And thus, today's build is not worth alot. At least it gave us the information necessary to track down the REAL chrystonium crystal! So it's actually a pivotal moment in this crazy year of DC comics caldender builds!

So I think today we are looking at Selvigs portal generator from the Avengers movie.

I believe the bunny may be a nod to Tony (and specially Iron Man 3) giving Pepper stuffed bunnies as gifts.

Pretty poor! Unless perhaps it's part of the T.A.R.D.I.S. and then maybe it's a little better?!

This calendar, apart from the festive jumpers, feels phoned in. I did wonder why the preview images showed so little of the calendar, and Brickset didn't have an ensemble image like the other calendars do, and after this I think I know why - embarrassment. They even had Spidey's accessories as a day to itself!!!

I agree with @Zordboy , let the Avengers take on Dreadflipper - you thought Thanos was tough, wait till you deal with primal, elder god dread and madness!

HAH! I didn’t peek, but I did call out the possibility of a hat rack on the 9th. I wasn’t expecting them to Rocket the hat, though.

@Doctor8:
No, those at least come with weapons. And the lightsaber hearth from 12-23-2014 actually looked really festive for what it technically was.

Glad I didn't pay full price for this calendar

100% agree. I didn’t particularly feel like I needed this set other then the Spider-Man sweater but when I saw it at $20 I reluctantly bit on it.

With two kids we usually only do two calendars which are usually Lego. We picked up a Star Wars funko pop calendar on clearance last year and saved it for this year so that was one and the Star Wars set has been a now five year tradition so we grabbed that when is was on sale too.

We are a big Marvel family and it’s a shame how poorly represented it is. It should be a calendar that is a no doubt purchase for us. Also looking
back at past sets for not just Marvel but Star Wars too, they are all lacking cohesive theming and Special/Non typical Parts Usage.

I didn't know Iron Man was into showing off shoes.

So it's a weapon rack, without even any weapons, that has got to be a new low in Advent Calendars. Could the not at least gave us a couple of helmets for earlier figures and included their hair with the figures instead?

Oh a weapons rack? Here I thought it was the Tesseract on its podium in Asgard. Not included; Hela calling it “not bad”

$20 for seven minifigures and a bunch of parts isn't bad! Although it is weird how much this showed up on clearance PRE-Christmas. I found all three ACs at a Walmart at $20 back in October. I was hoping my store was an abberation, and then I found them at a different Walmart at $25....

Its why I bought it here in the UK when it dropped down to £20. If you put it in terms of the collectable minifigs which are £3.50 each, 7 would cost me £24.50.

I'm so glad I decided to return this abomination of an Advent Calendar. Didn't even bother to rebuy it when Walmart had all of them priced at $20. Even the Friends one seems pretty lacking other than the cute animals. I've contented myself with just SW, HP & City calendars this year. They just don't make them like they used to.

It would need to be square to be the Tesseract. Also, it's been a while since I saw that movie, but wasn't she referring to the other Infinity gauntlet?

The other Gauntlet was “Fake!”, Surtur’s crown was “smaller than I thought” and the Tesseract was “not bad”
