Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 18
Posted by CapnRex101,Receiving the Cloak of Levitation as a lone item yesterday was ridiculous and probably puts the Advent Calendar beyond redemption, but today should provide the cloak's owner.
Find out below...
Doctor Strange does indeed arrive today. Ignoring the bizarre decision to separate the figure from his cloak, the design is impressive. The blue highlights on the torso stand out against the predominant dark blue and I like the intricate wrinkles across his robe, as well as the details on Doctor Strange's belt.
The metallic gold Eye of Agamatto looks excellent too, as do the grey flecks in this minifigure's hair. However, the same minifigure has now appeared several times, including in 30652 Doctor Strange's Interdimensional Portal, so its appeal in an Advent Calendar is certainly not as high as some less common characters.
Of course, the rubbery cloak looks splendid when attached around his shoulders, completing this minifigure very well. He comes with a pair of accessory holders too, featuring trans-green 1x1 round plates to represent a time-based spell. These are fine, but printed 2x2 dishes would have been so much better and would have had the potential for re-use in the future.
Overall - It should not have taken two days to complete, but Doctor Strange is a superb minifigure.

Completely agree, splitting this figure over 2 days was stupid, and pretty much just amounts to a cash grab move that they can put less in the calendar.
Also don't know why when we got printed discs in 76060, they've kept going for simpler 'spell' elements when its clear they can do better.
The worst thing about this calendar is that it just doesn't make any sense.
Like, if it just bad? If it was just disappointing? Okay, you'd maybe be able to understand the logic that went into the "builds" (using that term loosely, here) on some of the days.
Like I said for yesterday's entry? If the final six days of this calendar are just the Infinity Gems, one after the other? Sure, fine. That would be amazingly disappointing, and show an almost-unfathomable lack of creativity or thought or even respect for the customers who bought the calendar, and the kids opening it every morning.
But you'd still understand it. One Infinity Gem a day? There's logic to that. There's a pattern. A lame pattern, but a pattern.
Three days ago, we got a decent build for Loki's throne ... yet there's no sign of the character who would actually be sitting in the throne. They produced a specific character's throne, but didn't bother including the actual character ... and instead, one full day was occupied by nothing more than a single minifigure attachment. This isn't just disappointing, it's bizarre. There's no logic here. Who signed off on this? How many Lego company executives saw this year's Avengers calendar while it was in pre-production and thought, "tick, no problems here!"?
It's just surreal, how unbelievably-terrible this calendar has been. I don't get it.
I'm surprised the producers of the calendar didn't put his spell accessories in tomorrow's box...
This would have been a good opportunity to do the Doctor Strange with the puffy jacket and Columbia hoodie from No Way Home when they forgot to close the portal to Siberia and the Sanctum is all snowy
If they wanted to split this over two days. They could have at least given the cloak a clear stand to have it float independently.
@Zordboy it makes perfect sense. After we saw his throne a few days ago we now finally get Ra's Al Ghul!
The really bizarre thing is Superman's cape. I guess it's an invisible superman. Must be that technicolor kryptonite again.
...I'm not coping, you're coping!
Just kidding of course.

Just wait until next year...
There will be one figure, plus 23 single pieces, one for each remaining day, making for a truly awesome build on the 24th.
Oh and the RRP will be raised to 50 Dollars, because, you know, inflation and all... ;-)

At this point, I think we should just summon Dreadflipper, and leave the calendar for his reign of wintery terror.
Spoilers for 2024 Marvel Advent Calendar:
Day 1: Iron Man (no helmet)
Day 2: Helmet (no visor)
Day 3: Visor
Day 4: Trans-light blue effects pieces for Iron Man
Day 5: Alternate hair piece for Tony Stark
Day 6: 3-piece stand for Iron Man helmet
Perfect combination!
^ And now we're just giving them ideas.

Don’t give them ideas…
He’s not even got the bigger parabola accessories that Lego uses to represent MCU wizardry, so absolutely nothing that should have stopped the cloak going with him. What an absolutely baffling choice
The interdimensional portal is just 8 pieces. 10 if you add in a couple more so it stands up on its own. Those with the cape would at least give us something to build.
I wonder if the ACs have a daily budget limit and the cape is weirdly expensive to produce for some reason, or something like that.
Anyway.
Today LIMBO has all's favorite MARBLES AVOCADO: DOCTOR WHO! Trust a doctor. I would.
Ooh, it’s Leisure Suit Stephen!
As much as I agree that they copped out on this one a bit, I do like the choice of green for his magic, I can't remember seeing that before. It's usually orange. And I don't mind the smaller parts, the time stone has slightly different looking magic anyway.
Splitting the figure in 2 days is insulting, but at least they could salvage it by giving us cape AND printed discs on day 17 and figure itself on day 18, instead we got basic studs. Lame
kang comment idk i'm losing faith in this calendar idk
So far, this calendar has been a bit lacking. With the exception being the fireplace with Thor's hammer.

Perfect example of how if you know the subject, you can very easily make themed figures without running out of ideas.
@MisterBrickster:
They could have done printed 1x1 round tiles, then.

And it goes well with his red cape to give the completed figure a minuscule bit of Christmas flavor.

True! And it probably helps in my case that trans-green 1x1s always remind me of 6541 Intercoastal Seaport, the best Christmas present I ever got!
Now I'm starting to wonder when those stopped coming on sprues.
