Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 23

Posted by ,

Despite the server's surprising effort to avoid exposing you to any more of 76267 Avengers Advent Calendar, we have returned to examine today's item.

See what it is after the break...

Day 23 brings a Christmas tree mat, inspired by Captain America's shield. I like the colour scheme and the rare instance of Marvel and seasonal theming, but this is clearly an underwhelming model alone. Nevertheless, I hope the mat will contribute to an attractive design when combined with the presumed contents of day 24, as suggested on the Advent Calendar packaging.

Overall - The crossover of Marvel and Christmas theming is welcome, but this is a disappointing item on its own.

This mat would fail Health and Safety checks as a trip hazard.

Christmas tree mat. I was struggling to figure out what this was; an ornament? a target for Hawkeye?

Oh no! The christmas cake for Superman melted!

At least Lex stole 0 cakes today. That's as many as 0 tens! And that's not terrible!

...
Unlike this superhero calender

Love the intro. The server's desperate effort to avoid hosting any more Marvel Advent Calendar content.

Oh, snap!! The Cap'n's dishing some zingers.

Yes, there's nothing like starting your day laugh-snorting some mocha java. That dry, dead-pan English humor. I love it!!

As for the build, "perhaps we should leave Target Practice behind."

With the mat for it being designed to look like Cap’s shield I’m surprised they didn’t ditch the idea of making the tree look traditional and instead give us a star like is actually in the shield’s centre.

I mean, given the quality of the rest of the calendar not -that- surprised because it’s clear not much thought or effort when into it, but still

Capn, you're hinting towards a Christmas tree as tomorrow's gift. But I'm still expecting a Loki minifigure from this calendar. What a letdown.

Since we got a very Loki-themed throne on Day 16, I was still expecting a Loki minifig. Then again, we got a ridiculous Strange cloak the very next day. What a disappointing calendar.

I'm counting on a Lok-tree now

Well, this is just the floor rug under the table, so if tomorrow is the table legs, it better include an advertisement for an upcoming DK Book on making Marvel-themed table tops.

I saw a theory somewhere (I think on Jay's Brick Blog's AC countdown) where the poster theorized there was supposed to be a Loki minifigure but was replaced with Wong. He/she also pointed to how Wong never appears with the Tesseract for evidence. Maybe there was no Loki minifigure in production when this was being made and was developed before the Avengers Tower.

Link: I can't find it.

So what you’re saying is it’s really a minifig of Loki, disguised as Wong. That fixes everything. Best Calendar Evar!

@bealegopro: That was here, on yesterday's (or what should have been yesterday's) Marvel AC entry.

That makes sense. Thank you! OG comment for credit:

Given that Wong never really appears in Avengers Tower, or has anything to do with the Tesseract do we think this was actually at some point supposed to be a Loki? Both are more appropriate to him, and it would explain the Loki-styled throne we got a few days back

@bealegopro And here I thought you might have just run into someone with the same suspicions as me, didn’t think we were going full ouroboros XD

I knew it. I knew that this calendar was so bad, it crashed the entire site.

Maybe we've been looking at it wrong? Maybe this is the Tables and Furniture Calendar (with guest appearances by a couple of Marvel characters).

I have a problem with the way that the last three were put out. ASSUMING that the last one is the tree, and that you are fine with each of the days (they are for kids), why would you do it Wong, tree skirt, tree? I think the idea of having the tree skirt before the tree makes SOME sense, given that it is a CA shield inspired skirt, but putting Wong before just seems weird as you could have him with the “star” the last day and just throw a Santa hat in.
