Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 24
Posted by CapnRex101,With the arrival of a Christmas tree mat on day 23, there seems to be only one possibility for the final day of this Avengers Advent Calendar, which would be fitting for Christmas Eve.
View today's item and our summary of the whole Avengers Advent Calendar below...
Christmas trees are, unsurprisingly, a common feature of LEGO Advent Calendars. Four of the five include a Christmas tree this year and this design looks reasonable, combining dark green and green wedge plates to create some texture. However, the pearl gold baubles are odd, more closely resembling a Dalek than tree decorations.
The situation certainly improves once the tree is placed on its mat and the Tesseract is attached on top, as suggested on the box. This is quite a substantial model and I like the vibrant colours. However, my favourite of this year's Christmas trees is the one from the City Advent Calendar, which only needed one day to complete.
Overall - This is a nice Christmas tree, but falls short of versions in the other Advent Calendars.
Summary
The two previous Marvel Advent Calendars have struggled and I think 76267 Avengers Advent Calendar is even worse, unfortunately. Some of the individual items have been poor, but I think its greatest weakness has actually been the muddled focus of the calendar. Minifigures and any items to accompany them have often been separated by several days, for no apparent reason. There have even been items with no companions at all, such as Loki's throne.
In addition, this set has offered some of the worst single items of any LEGO Advent Calendar. Doctor Strange's cloak appearing alone was ridiculous and the ice hockey equipment was not much better. Ultimately, I think the last three years have revealed that Marvel Advent Calendars require more creativity than the others, which has sadly been lacking thus far.
What do you think of 76267 Avengers Advent Calendar and what would you like to see in future Marvel Advent Calendars? Let us know in the comments.

I think the first was good, but the rest just "fell off". I'm referring to this calendar because day 1 to like day 10 was pretty good but it just got worse. Also, I'm referring to the first marvel calendar, as that was great, but gotg and this year's were extremely poor. Hope we get ninjago next year
Honestly, I liked the first Marvel calendar.
But it's been downhill ever since.
Last year's was bad, and this year's was just terrible. I'm so glad I changed my mind and bought the City calendar instead, this year, because that calendar was great. This calendar wasn't just bad, it was inexcusably bizarre. Loki's throne, but no Loki? Hockey equipment? 15 tables and those odd Iron Reindeer things? Who signed off on this?
Honestly, I was hoping for a group photo of all the builds, just to see how much furniture we'd actually gotten, as opposed to actual minifigs or builds somehow connected to the MCU.
Ultimately, thumbs down on the Tables and Indoor Furniture Calendar (with brief appearances by characters from the Marvel movies).
I love the mcu,but I really got no reason to get this.
The worst calendar in a line of bad calendars.
Is there any chance you could post a photo of all the builds together at some point?
I had this advent calendar, and I was looking at the builds and noticed that only one of these builds is a direct representation of an MCU event (the train). I'm not counting the festive Quinjet in this.
I understand there aren't that many good scenes to represent in LEGO, but could they only find one?!
Lok-tree it is...?
I guess that with all the obvious buildup for a Mr Freeze or The Penguin the final boss is Swamp Thing or something.
I applaud them for doing a superhero thing without Batman.but not doing any other villain either is a bit bizarre.
Unless...
This isn't a DC calender, is it???
A return to a classic brick-built calendar like the first, 1298, is long overdue.
Imagine how cool it could be nowadays with neat mini-builds of animals made using the plethora of new curved and SNOT parts released recently.
So...
Another year, another muddled calender. In this section I'll just speak out of character for a bit.
After the insanity of last year's GotG calender I remembered that it just was fun to try to bring some creativity to what might be the most sterile of the calenders. At first I was afraid that it wouldn't work as well. But I suppose it doesn't matter: it was fun to come up with crazy takes on stuff like day 15, the weaponless weapon rack.

I'm actually neither into Marvel or DC that much. I just felt like poking fun at the strenuous relation the builds have to the source material with some mental gymnastics. The Lok throne just had the colors and 'horns' for example. I'm not a licensed theme guy, so I wanted to approach these like the open ended 'lore' of themes of old. It just so happened that DC (and true to lego, basically just Batman) fit well as a shorthand.
I hope it was intertaining to people besides myself. If not, I hope it wasn't too annoying.
If anything for me it brought some extra fun to a mostly disappointing outing. That said, the articles themselves were a fun read too! I love the humor about Brickset's outage from yesterday! Thank you for the review!
To whoever designed this: any criticism wasn't meant personally. I don't think I would be able to do anything better with the source material. Marvel is hard to get iconogaphy from besides characters.
I really liked the first Marvel advent calendar but the 2 since have been really poor.
I agree with @Huw that a simple build calendar (maybe tree decorations like the friends one a few years ago) would be better than a specific theme. I've also wondered with the rise of expensive tool advent calendars if there is a market for a £60 Technic or Creator calendar.

No. Again, Marvel lacks the environmental iconography to pull this off.
Star Wars is all about armies and fleets. They have a vast wealth of iconic ships for microbuilds and generic army characters for minifigures.
Harry Potter is all about the play environment and Yule prominently features into the story, so there's also lots to pull from.
Marvel lacks both.
Honestly, Lego should consider rotating Advent Calendars among IPs. A Batman calendar would have been great years ago, as well as an LOTR. Both their times seems to have passed, though.
Yeah this just seems like a profound disappointment; at least last year’s had a cohesive theme, being Guardians of the Galaxy centric. This one was just all over the place, starting alright but rapidly tailing off. Makes me wonder what on earth was going on behind the scenes, was whoever planned this just stretched a bit too thin, was it just an assumption that anything with an Avengers logo on would sell like hotcakes anyway so no effort needed, or were there some sudden last minute changes that forced a bit a rejig?
Wow, kinda of speechless, the 24 is typically in nearly all Lego calendars a figure, but a tree and a pretty lame one at that.
Disappointing....
If there is another Marvel one next year, I think I'll skip because this one has been quite terrible, and given these cost more that the City one, I'm not really seeing the value.
The NUMBER BOX is over! Put your tree pants on the tree and give it a BOX HEAD. Goodtime Chrisbumps!

Even then though, there are other recognizable things LEGO could have done, like some of the mechs or a miniature Avengers Tower. Not having those seems like a missed opportunity.
It’s time for TLG to abandon this theme and give the kids what they want, a Minecraft themed advent calendar. There are no good MC advent options (12 items and 12 paper items is weak) and they would sell like crazy.
The set that broke BrickSet.
I'm truly mystified as to why this is so bad. The Marvel universe is truly vast and expanding exponentially. There are plenty of cool gadgets, gizmos, side-characters, and cool things to build. Moreover, there are plenty of Xmas cross-over ideas to take advantage of.
The Marvel ACs remind me of Star Wars before the current Gonk crew took charge. Marvel needs focus, dedication, and, most importantly, desire to create fun, cool builds.
The Marvel AC desperately needs someone with passion for the theme.
My favorite part of this was all the most-excellent
jokes told by the BS commentors and even the venerable Cap'n got in on the act. My favorite day of the AC is tomorrow because it will mercifully be over! ;)
It’s true that Marvel lacks icons. However with the few there are I think Lego also lacked inspiration in portraying them.
There are iconic buildings that could have been made into modular multi day builds. I don’t think these should have been in one calendar but if they were included over the last three years it could have lifted the overall value and changed negative perception.
Avengers tower
Sanctum Sanctorum
Daily Bugle
New York Skyline
Asgard
Knowhere (GOTG)
Temporal Portal
X-men mansion
Atlantis
Wakanda
And for good measure a Kevin Bacon MF last year would have been awesome.
I know I’m reaching here but these are some of the things I as a fan would have enjoyed seeing.
Exterminate the Marvel AC. I'd like to see a DC themed calendar in the future.

They did Avengers Tower and Hulkbuster Iron Man in 2021.

No, Marvel has icons. But its icons tend to be its characters rather than the locations. Iron man's helmet is iconic. Tony Stark's Malibu Mansion is not.
I think the first year was great. It gave me several minifigs I did not have and the minibuilds were recognizable with things such as Quinjet, Avengers Tower, Helicarrier, DUM-E, the Hall of Armor, etc.
GOTG was good with minifigs, but after Milano and Benetar, literally every day was "What is this?"
This year hit a new low, not just for Marvel, but licensed AC's in general. This is the worst I have ever seen for a licensed AC. They had a decent minifig selection, but they were not spread out evenly through the calendar. Cape day will now be the stuff of legends. Seriously, you can buy this thing on Bricks and Pieces for $1.22 (79786). Loki's throne without Loki will also go down in History. I too subscribe to the theory that Loki was originally intended, but was replaced by Wong. The Tesseract would have made much more sense to be paired with Loki. Day 24 ending on an average Christmas tree was also a head scratcher. And yes, there were lots of tables.
I agree with other comments that the time has come to allow another theme a shot at an AC. Batman is an evergreen license and could easily fill 24 spaces. Lots of minifigs, vehicles, accessory builds, and locations to choose from. Ninjago and LOTR could also do quite well among others. Otherwise, I fear we are going to get Santa Hulk next year with one day for the torso, one day for the arms, one day for the legs, and one day for the head. Yeah, I know. Don't give them any ideas.
This one looks even more like a Dalek than the City tree did. Here's a thought: Christmas Daleks vs. Dreadflipper. Place your bets!
I thought having the calendar was fun, but it did not have the greatest reveals. I wish I had gotten a City calendar in addition to the Marvel one. Hopefully next year I like the look of both and I can find both.
As mentioned above and in previous days' comments, Marvel does lack iconography outside the individual characters, and direct Christmas connections are pretty thin. I think part of the 'problem' is also the focus on the cinematic universe over the comics universe. My ideas for future Marvel calendars is;
Fantastic Four - lots of characters to choose from, gadgets like HERBIE and the Fantasticar, weapon, Mole Man creatures for builds...
X-Men (suggested by someone else several days ago) - even more characters, Danger Room builds, mini-Sentinals...
Avengers vs. AIM or Hydra or Ultron - weapons robots and tech builds instead of tables...
Christmas across the Spider-Verse - lots of heroes and villains, buildable spider-tech, buildable spider characters like Sp//dr...
Lego should also release a DC calendar. Batman alone has lots of potential, furniture builds would make a lot more sense for a Batcave setting ;). Superman's Fortress of Solitude has an arctic/winter setting...
A very poor calendar! Next year it might be a case of waiting until it's reduced after Christmas before picking it up! Assuming they make another one next year that is?!
Maybe introducing the X-Men might be on the cards...
I am surprised that with the length of time Ninjago has been popular they have never done an advent calendar for the theme.

Santa Wu. It's right there.
This is my first ever advent calendar and I chose it to be the Marvel one and to be honest I'm quite satisfied with it,no matter all the negativity surrounding it. Nice variety of minifigs and accessories. Of course there were some head scratches, but comparing it to other 2023 calendar, this made me most sense of getting it.
It's Loki! Disguised as a Christmas tree!
@Huw:
Minifigs are king, and TLG has learned this. Especially with _five_ other Advent Calendars running concurrently (plus the occasional employee gift), I very much doubt they'll try to pile on a basic Creator calendar.
@stevesheriw:
Batman could pull off an entire Advent Calendar with nothing but Christmas-themed Batsuits. And it would be awesome.
@TheOtherMike:
Oh, I've had Christmas Daleks for several years now. I can't remember exactly when I made them, but I think it was before 21304 released.
@kdu2814:
I don't know about filling the Batcave with furniture, but it would give them an opportunity to do a more fleshed-out range of his Batcave trophies. Of course, the three most famous are probably the mechanical T-Rex, the giant penny, and the giant Joker playing card, but there are all sorts of ways they could reference various Batman villains with other trophies.
@RustySP:
Oh, I know it seems like that's always the case, but in reality it gets really messy. Of the three Marvel calendars, only the GotG one concluded with a minifig. 2022 was the only HPAC to end on a minifig, but that was kind of built into the format, since every three days were based on a different movie, and always concluded with a character (Hedwig being the only character who wasn't a minifig). The SWAC and City calendars do follow your theory, with ten of the SWACs ending on an exclusive Christmas-themed minifig (the other three ending with a beach ball in a Santa hat, perhaps the best Advent Calendar snowman ever made, and a chicken in a Santa hat). Nearly every City calendar has ended with some form of Santa, and even one of the years without a Santa minifig still ended with a minifig.
Friends is the extreme opposite. Besides having zero minifigs at all, it usually gets the few minidolls out of the way in the first week (sometimes the first day is the only minidoll), and 2018 was exclusively ornaments to go on your real Christmas tree. 2020 and 2022 were the only two that concluded with minidolls...and 2022 probably shouldn't have.
Both Castle Advent Calendars did finish things off with minifigs, but the Pirates one put a skeleton on Day 22, with the last proper minifig on Day 29. According to Bricklink, the lone Creator Basic calendar put the same Santa minifig on Day 2 and Day 13 (at least when City gave you two Santas, they were different minifigs), and those were the only minifigs in the whole calendar. Clikits did two calendars, with no minifigs. Creator did four, and the first two gave you Max and Tina Jack Stone characters the first week...but the second calendar was a straight repeat of the first one.
And then there are the two weird Advent Calendars. We're still waiting to find out the contents of 4002023, but 21330 actually does save Kevin's mother until the 24th day.
I wish this article had a photo of all the days together like some of the other articles do.
This was like watching a bad movie but you just had to stick it out to see the ending. No fun. The one redeeming thing was the $20 discounted WM price.
This wasn’t a bad calendar, people just don’t appreciate the references. Remember when Tony confronts Loki at Stark Tower and tells Loki “You’re missing the point. There is no throne. There is no version of this where you come out on top.” Well, surprise Loki - there is a throne!
I’d very much appreciate a short description from the designer of all the references and Easter eggs.
A DC Advent Calendar focused solely on Batman would’ve worked for the LEGO Batman Movie; too late, now. Make it Justice League or Legion of Doom Christmas. Maybe a Teen Titans Christmas.
Bizzaro-Santa is here to take Superman’s gifts! Lugubrious Christmas to one, and to one a bad night!
@Rumble_Strike said: "I am surprised that with the length of time Ninjago has been popular they have never done an advent calendar for the theme."
It's been years. Next year, they really should just abandon the Marvel theme, and finally do a Ninjago calendar. We've waited long enough.
I think the first Marvel Advent Calendar was the best Marvel one. It was new and they put some cool stuff in it.
This year like last years, was just kind of blah. And I feel it has some great potential. Don’t get me wrong the Christmas Sweater/jumper minifigs are the best ever. Just wish there was more stuff at that calibre.
Have a great Christmas everyone!!!
:)
@MutoidMan:
I would totally buy a Teen Titans Go! Advent Calendar. They do awesome Christmas specials every year.
@Zordboy:
They absolutely should do a Ninjago calendar. But call it a DC one. And fill it with Batman.
I think toward the end, the designers of this calendar truly ran out of ideas for mini builds that they had to fit a seventh minifigure into the calendar next to the usual six. Disappointing effort from LEGO, what with the singular cape for Doctor Strange on one day, or Loki throne lacking an appropriate companion.
Honestly, with Spider-Man already having had a special torso made for him back in the 2021 calendar (albeit not Christmas-themed) I think they could have replaced him with Loki who would be given a special Christmas sweater instead, and maybe just give us a regular Spider-Man minifigure if they truly wanted him to be included. Wong and Okoye aren't particularly common but I think they're just there to bump up the value a bit
