Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 21
Posted by CapnRex101,
Our stay at The Three Broomsticks was extended yesterday, although I am expecting the calendar to move on today, hopefully to something more interesting than another table.
Let's open the door and find out...
We have already seen Harry, Ron and Hermione in their winter clothing from The Prisoner of Azkaban and Draco Malfoy joins them today. Draco's attire is darker than his fellow students, naturally, with a black jacket and matching hat. These elements are new and the dual-moulded ushanka is particularly notable, not reflecting the film exactly, but giving a fair representation.
In addition, the medium legs are effective and I like Draco's double-sided head. This element has only appeared three times before and both expressions suit the character extremely well, including a frightened design to depict Harry scaring Draco away while wearing the Invisibility Cloak.
A black wand is also provided, corresponding with Draco's prior appearances. This colour is an odd choice because his hawthorn wand is distinctly lighter, but I suppose LEGO wished to give different wand colours to each of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Draco.
Overall - This unique version of Draco Malfoy looks excellent and was a perfect choice for an Advent Calendar.

Yeah, that's me and my two facial expressions concerning winter weather.
That's a nice fig. It's a good torso, but a fantastic hat!!
This year's HPAC is a hat battlepack.
How is it that HP n SW are so much better than Marvel? HP has good scenery stuff, pieces, prints, and unique figs. SW has great design, pieces, and figs.
Marvel has... NOTHING.... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! You so STUPID!!!

Harry Potter has very specific environments and iconography that lends itself well to small Lego builds in a way that Marvel does not. (Marvel's iconography largely centers around the characters, not the environments, and it has few iconic vehicles.)
With Harry, you can put a few pieces of food on a table and fans can recognize it as being from the Hogwarts dining hall or Hogsmeade or the Yule Ball. Do the same with Marvel, and....
Oh, Hermione?
An ushanka?
I have a PhD in science. I'm no dummy. But reading CapnRex's reviews over the years has definitely expanded my vocabulary.
Now I know it's called an ushanka and not a 'fuzzy hat'.
I love these scene-specific Prisoner of Azkaban figs! So much better than the generic figures and Christmas jumper figures we get in the Marvel and Star Wars calendars. And I love Prisoner of Azkaban so I just have to get anything from that film/book.

Avengers would need schawarma.
@woosterlegos:
Bricklink has been using "ushanka" in the descriptions of both the hat and any minifig that's wearing it.

Well, for me it's the opposite. I'm enjoying a Christmas in the sun.
I feel like Waylon Smithers whenever a minifig has an exciting new hat.
I don’t care about HP, but HE HAS A NEW HAT!
His father will hear about this!

Unless you really like tables. Then, the Marvel calendar is your jam.
Add me to the list of folks that are new to the word "ushanka" as the name for that style of hat. I've heard them called a trapper hat and a bomber hat before. My partner and I refer to them as a "Sh*tter" hat! This name is inspired by National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, where there is the scene of cousin Eddie pumping out the septic tank of his RV into the sewer while wearing little more than a bath robe and one of these style hats as he loudly proclaims " Sh*tter's full". :)

Yes, I'm sure Marvel has a table that's designed exclusively for the spreading of jam. Comes with toast, biscuits...but no lamb! That's going to have to wait until next year's jelly-spreading table.
