Hot on the heels of the announcement of 43243 Simba the Lion King Cub, a larger 18+ version of the young feline has been revealed by fnac.pt.

The 1,445-piece 43247 The Lion King will be released on June 1st priced at €130, which will probably equate to $130 / £110.

Ailurophiles will therefore be spoilt for choice next month, what with these two, and 21349 Tuxedo Cat, launching on the same day!

"Ailurophile" sounds like a word that only vet students and furries must know of.

By in United States,

I’m a big The Lion King fan, but I can’t say I’m particularly interested in either set. Not everything makes for good Lego, I guess.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

This was not the set reveal we were waiting for.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I'm pretty sure 130€ will equate to 130€

I like this better than the smaller one but the only articulation seems to be on the neck

This is why we love Huw and his wide-ranging diction!

... I have questions.

By in United Kingdom,

Interesting interpretation of Sauron, I will give them that at least.

This is what they were teasing the other day right?

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Five pictures, but always the same one mirrored... It seems to be a bi-dimensional set

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that a cat toy behind his back?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I hope it has a B-model.

He is a cat, after all.
The tuxedo cat should have some with a ball of wool.
Not on its tail though.
It could always play with the eyeballs and cat jaw!

FFS - more disney cr*p and TWO of the same subject.......

This is getting out of hand!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice that there are two options at different price points. It may spark "We have Simba at home" style arguments thought

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It’s cute! Yet another set from this year’s lineup I want. Will see what the reality is going to be, which ones I’ll actually buy. The wanted list is way too long…

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

It's beautiful but as the models look beter and better, I feel like were closer to collecting sculptures than Lego sets. There is nothing wrong with it, but still, it doesn't look and feel like Lego.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Dare I say I much prefer the small one? While this one obviously looks way more detailed, it still feels a bit off. Once again right in the uncanny valley.

Making things bigger doesn't necessarily always make it better.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Looks pretty uncanny

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I still have a cheap Simba-shaped shampoo bottle from 1994, and it looks decidedly better and less creepy than this LEGO model. It looks great for the most part, but the nose and eyes ruin the look for me. Not a massive fan of these cartoon characters-turned-buildable figures anyway, because it's so hard to do the faces justice with LEGO bricks.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I feel like it would have made more sense to recreate adult Simba at this price point, considering the cheaper LEGO Simba looks pretty good.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

The title just sounds wrong.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

@JayCal

Huw has edited but I can't edit not delete mine xD it used to say "€130, which will probably equate to €130 / £110"

Gravatar
By in United States,

Something happened between last year’s leak and this final model - particularly to his nasal bridge - that takes away from the final model. Hopefully the pieces exist in the right colors to reverse engineer it because my initial reaction to that leak was “I’m all in” and my current reaction is “hmmm”. The neck area also looks rough (and not just in the furry way they are going for)

We have the same "duplication" thing in Technic :D (42171 and 42165)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I prefer the smaller one. That doesn't mean I will buy it though, just that I prefer it over this, which looks kind of creepy to me.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Not going to buy this. But I like this much more than the Ideas cat. This lion looks much more lifelike and dynamic (despite, or maybe because, technically not being modeled after an actual living lion).

Might also be because there are whiskers present...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dammit! Now I've gotta decide whether I want this or 43243.

(Probably 43243 just because it's more friendly to my bank account)
(Either way I'm gonna try modding it into Kion)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, look It's Simba from the 'Be careful what you wish for' song scene as being King usually means the previous King is dead, so...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Mixed feelings about this one. I definitely like how he has more 'bulk' to him than the smaller version, and I like how specific details have been built such as his 'mane' tuft and his toes. The fact that he has whiskers is a nice touch, especially since more other official figures or toys leave them off (for obvious reasons I guess), although for complete accuracy he's short one; in the movie he has three whiskers on one side and four on the other at this age. Looks like there might not have been space on his muzzle to place the extra one, though.

But I dunno. The face just isn't quite doing it for me here. Normally I do prefer brick-built details like this over the smaller set's prints, but... I both like and don't quite like the way his eyes are done here, and I can't quite place a finger on why. Having actual round pieces for the eyeballs is for sure a nice detail, and I like how the sausages work for eyebrows as well. The eyes just don't quite feel like they fit naturally with the rest of the face to me?

And I definitely prefer the *price* of the smaller version!

Still, I wonder how long it'll take before someone MoCs up the rest of the movie-canon lion cubs to match him. I'd love to see Nala, Kiara, Kovu and Vitani in this style...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

If Lego could recolour those antennas in white, maybe we could add the missing whiskers to the tuxedo cat.

This set (and the smaller one) are not for me but I always welcome new parts and parts recolour.

Just relieved that this one's not titular. Keep expecting Frankie Howerd to pop up... ooh err missus!

Gravatar
By in United States,

“You must avenge my death Kimba, DAH, I mean, Simba…”

Echoing comments that I prefer the smaller model - it’s cuter and more toy-like, while of course being a fraction of the price of this larger one.

This model looks good, I’m just not sure what’s really gained by making it so large. It’d just be hard to find a place to display it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

"You know what grown-ups really want? Plush toys of cute infantile animal Disney characters! Let's make one out of ABS and charge people over $100 for it!"

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

This is a better model than the black and white cat. Still won't buy either though...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think the big and the small versions both look very good. I'm actually quite surprised that they're releasing them both on the same day. A lot will probably pick one or the other, who could have ended up with both if they were a few months apart. Nice that Lego are offering the choice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

6.509x the piece count
6.503x the price

Gravatar
By in United States,

Obviously more expensive, but I think this larger one looks a lot more like a lion than the smaller one (whose face and ears remind me more of a lion mixed with a monkey for some reason). Price per part is good too.

What is this smaller Simba you speak of?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

It's an exceptional sculpt, and I'd love to know who the designer is to give them credit where credit is due!

Printing the white highlights on the eyes is something I've been wanting them to do for a long time. The black plastic isn't quite glossy enough on it's own, and unless you have the perfect lighting to highlight the eyes, they can look pretty soulless.

Also, glad to finally see some love for Lion King in the LEGO portfolio.

Fun animal gift for adults

Build your passion for animals, art and design with this lifelike (and allergy-friendly!) lion cat display model. Recreate the distinctive flame yellowish orange fur and brick yellow underbelly of a lion cat with LEGO bricks. Choose brown or light brown sticker eyes and build the lion cat with either an open or slightly open mouth. Display your striking creation and slightly swivel the head, ears, paws and tail for cute near identical feline poses.

This collectable LEGO set includes illustrated instructions as opposed to the more standard all text type for other sets to guide you through every one-piece placement step of the mindful, creative activity. You can also find instructions and 3D digital viewing tools on the LEGO Builder app (like and subscribe) to enhance your non-color matching building experience.

This LEGO Icons model is created by an in house designer, not voted for by LEGO fans and produced by the LEGO Group, and it’s part of a carefully curated collection of top-quality if not somewhat duplicative LEGO Sets for Adults (each sold separately). Whatever your passion, there is likely a better building project waiting for you!

Oh, Kion would be amazing. They should really have done some The Lion Guard sets, that would’ve been amazing. Such a wonderful series from Ford Riley.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

You guys are all way too fussy!
I think that this lion cub looks great!
I challenge any of you to make one better?…..
Some wonderful parts usage too.

Not sure if I’ll buy it yet, as the want list is VERY long and costly ATM, and space is VERY limited ATM, but I’ll probably pick it up at some stage.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don’t need a buildable figure of Simba, but unlike apparently a lot of others here, I do at least think this one is really well-done.

Gravatar

Lego doing a small set and then a UCS set of the same character? That's the circle of life.
