Here's the press release for the 58th LEGO Ideas set:

21350 JAWS
1,497 pieces, rated 18+
€149.99 / $149.99 / £129.99
Available from 3rd August at LEGO.com

Today the LEGO Group unveils the LEGO Ideas JAWS set, a brick-built diorama commemorating the infamous 1975 blockbuster movie “JAWS,” from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.

21350 JAWS is a meticulously designed recreation of one of the most famous scenes from the film, allowing fans to relive the suspense and excitement of Spielberg's masterpiece in brick form.

Originally conceived by LEGO fan Johnny Campbell, via the LEGO Ideas community platform, the 1497-piece set captures key elements and characters from the film in LEGO minifigure form – including Police Chief Martin Brody, marine biologist Matt Hooper and sailor Sam Quint. The set also features the iconic Orca boat, with a detailed cabin with a removable roof, an adjustable boom and rigging, plus lots of recognisable accessories, such as a revolver, compass, fishing rod, harpoon, spear, and the yellow barrels that were pivotal to the plot.

The set can be placed on a brick-built seawater base with the JAWS LEGO shark model attacking the Orca boat which includes a printed tile with Chief Brody’s famous line “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” to complete this nostalgic and playful centrepiece. Alternatively, the Shark can be displayed separately from the boat, on its own stand.

Speaking about how he approached the design for the set, fan designer Johnny Campbell, reveals: "JAWS is my favourite film of all-time, so I really wanted to recreate it in LEGO bricks. LEGO building has always been a part of my life in some shape or form, but in order to get all the finer details, I actually freeze-framed JAWS as I watched it so that I could catch a glimpse of the finer details, taking notes as I went along.

"It is just mind-blowing that my design is now an official LEGO set. I can't wait to stand in a LEGO shop looking at the shelves and seeing a set that I have been involved with and watching someone buying it. It’s every LEGO fan’s dream!”

Will you be buying this set?

Yes, as soon as it's released
Yes, eventually
Maybe, I haven't made up my mind yet
No, it doesn't interest me
No, it's too expensive
No, but I like it

By in United States,

Oh that’s so cute, I love it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was expecting it to be, like, $200. $150 ain't bad!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Glad we get a full shark, thought briefly it was just part of it

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I'm going to need a bigger shelf

Gravatar
By in United States,

If only this also came with a Fonzie minifig and ski ramp as an Easter egg.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Back to 2019 31088: Deep Sea Creatures + 31093: Riverside Houseboat for a fraction of the price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyway, we delivered the bricks.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Still looks fake :)

By in Ireland,

Bruce!
That mini top hat as the bell on the top of the mast is very clever.

Gravatar

Great use of that newer Ninjago vehicle piece for Jaw's gills!

That's some top hat, Harry.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks awesome! $150 is really good for a set I'm 2024. And I'm glad that you can remove Bruce and the Orca from the base! Might consider picking this one up!

The shark is still way too big though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've come to dislike those black stands. It adds almost nothing to the overall builds and inflates the price by around $30 each time. I get that it's for display on a shelf, but they could honestly sell those separately in different sizes for different sets.

I like this set otherwise though. Reminds me of the 910010 Great Fishing Boat.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The price per piece for this licenced set is reasonable compared to those recent Star Wars sets.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

is that a new way of ball connection with the ropes?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Jaws is one of my favourite movies and his set looks way better than I could hope for :)

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Good model and fair price for a licenced theme. But is it just me or does the shark kind of look too “friendly” on the front of the box? Would have loved to see a meaner looking, fearsome shark, not a cute one.
The other picture with the whole shark from a lower angle looks better though.

No, that ball-joint has existed for years.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

A shame the swimmer isn't included.

Gravatar
By in United States,

After a 10-year hiatus, *this* is the set that will finally get me to dip my toe back in the LEGO waters again. It's just so irresistibly charming.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That shark looks too cute to be a dead-eyed killer

Gravatar
By in United States,

The whole thing is so characterful and this is easily the best fishing boat ever done by Lego. What a refreshing release.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

€149.99!

For that you get the head, the tail, the stand, the whole damn thing!

I've never heard Bruce the killer great white from Jaws described as 'cute'. It runs contra to everything that is actually cute - puppy dogs, flowers, silly cat memes ...killer sharks? I think I'm getting a headache just trying to rationalize this. It's like saying 'The latter statement is false, but the former statement is true' or 'what is the sound of one hand clapping' or even 'how many angels can dance on the head of a pin'.

...I think I need an aspirin or two.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

My youngest says it's a beautiful shark and a very detailed boat!

Think we're gonna have to save for it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Do I see strings with a ball at the end? Is that a new piece?

Edit: It is not, it was used in 2016 and 2019 in a lot of city fire department sets.

Unfortunately the perception that sharks like the great white are just deadly killing machines has lead to the merciless hunting and near extinction of many species.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Day 1 purchase for me, GWP or no GWP.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I wish I could but I'm not gonna get this set. None the less, it's a beautiful set.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

$200 over here, these prices are getting ridiculous.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the 'Bruce' model (except for the tail, it looks wrong), but I'm only interested in that.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the weird shape of the tail fin?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can I safely assume this is the first Roy Scheider minifig? That's the most appealing thing about this set for me. I kind of have a rule against buying sets that are purely for display and can't be made part of a larger scene, but this might challenge that.

Also would have loved to see a Narragansett can somewhere.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The shark looks too friendly and not menacing at all.
It looks like a dolphin hopping along with the boat.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Not a set I'd likely buy, but I quite like it!

That said, we're gonna need a bigger base, as it is easily the weakest part of the set. Also, it would have been cool if you could also recreate the final scene (without completely MOCcing it).

Price seems a bit high, though certainly not as bad as some other recent sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks lovely, just perfect.

I like how the logo-and-quote tiles make it a pretty nice match for 77015 : Temple of the Golden Idol and all the Star Wars dioramas. I think I’ll get it and put them all together in a big Lucas & Spielberg display. Maybe I should try to see if I can get comparable things for American Graffiti and Close Encounters of the Third Kind through Ideas…

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oooh oooh is it my turn to do the thing where I say I have no interest in this property and mumble grudgingly about it being a parts pack or fitting into a medieval scene?

Seriously, I've never seen Jaws, but what a neat little diorama. I can't decide if I like the boat overhaging or not. And who doesn't want to display half a shark on a stick?

Are those ropes ending in ball joints? Is that a new piece?

Hadn't run across that before. Didn't realize they'd updated the fishing pole, either.

@LukeSkywalker:
The shark finning industry is responsible for the massive number of sharks killed annually. Many places that have large shark populations have turned to shark-tourism, making the sharks a resource to be preserved.

@Rabrickzel:
I believe flying sharks were covered during Shark Week, in either 2013 or 2014.

@Blondie_Wan:
Alternately, you could go with 1989 Batman and Home Alone, as there was a point in time when those, along with the SW trilogy, the Indiana Jones trilogy, E.T., and Jaws, were the top ten grossing films of all time.

One could! But I’m more interested in classic Lucas / Spielberg…

… as well as Lucasfilm generally. I’m probably the only person here who’d totally be up for comparable display-oriented sets (or, well, any LEGO sets, really) from Howard the Duck, Labyrinth, Twice Upon a Time, Tucker: The Man and His Dream, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Red Tails, and Maniac Mansion.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great! Very nice display. Minifigs and shark are perfect. I'm surprised about the price--I thought it was gonna be more expensive.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like the way they've handled having a full model of the shark that also fits smoothly into the diorama. The ship's details are also impressive! I'm not a fan of the movie, but the separate components would make splendid displays in other situations....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Been waiting for this since it was out, and for me it does not disappoint! Great looking boat, shark and base. I’ll have to modify the Stranger Things Chevy into Brody’s vehicle - shouldn’t be too difficult…

"

Absolutely. That sadly is true for real life and a sad and important fact. I’m totally against hunting of endangered species.
But I was comparing it to the movie “Jaws” here, which this set is based on and where the shark actually is portrayed as a deadly killing machine. He doesn’t look as menancing in the set as in the movie, therefor I would have prefered a meaner looking shark.

The comparison doesn't work quite as well with Lego since mini-doll eyes are wider and more colorful than beady black minifigure eyes—sort of the inverse of classic doll eyes compared to human eyes.

@LukeSkywalker:
Oh, you mean sport fishing of sharks? Lots of publicity, for the a whiff of vapor in the bucket, compared to finning. One sport-fishing boat may go out on a day excursion and bring in one shark, while a small flotilla of finning boats come back with fins numbered in the five and six digit range, each. The more significant damage done is that people who donate to aquatic conservancy funds are less likely to do so for a group that specializes in shark conservation over just about any aquatic mammal you could name.

But there have been changes. There’s been a string of laws in the US alone, aimed at banning involvement in the shark-finning trade for US-flagged ships, because every time they pass a new law and pat themselves on the back, someone figures out the inevitable loophole and it takes years to get the next law written and passed. Shark Week has brought in the likes of Andy Casagrande and Paul Degelder, who are both vocal proponents of shark conservation (the latter of which, only after losing his hand and foot to a bull shark attack during an Australian special forces training exercise).

LEGO Mishima is not something that has ever occurred to me before, but I now realize it’s something I very much want, especially if it came with a Paul Schrader minifig

I'd really like a version of a nearly vertical Bruce, partially underwater, with the poor swimmer balanced on his nose, a la the short video that was released. That would be a no-brainer for me. Very evocative. Very Iconic. Maybe someone could create a MOC...

I don’t think straight up murder-hunting of sharks really happens anymore, and least not that can be blamed on this film. Sometimes when a shark bite victim dies, the local community may start hunting until they bag _something_ that can be blamed, but that’s more about making themselves, and any potential tourists, feel safe enough to venture out in/on the water again. A lot of people may not swim in the ocean because of this, but the film has likely done as much harm as it ever will, at this point.

He's right. The market for soup is what is destroying sharks. That, and long-line, bottom trawling, and giant net fishing. Also, the general decimation of prey fish stocks and reef bleaching due to global warming.

It does happen. I suggest you try William Mckeever's Emperors of the Deep for a horrifying and uncensored look at what happens during sports fishing competitions where sharks are targeted. Culls are also often implemented if a shark "attack" or death happens on a coastline, depending on political pressure.

I’m just pointing out that Jaws had an undeniably profound affect on the public’s psyche and view of sharks that (directly or indirectly) lead to a catastrophic decimation of their populations in the years following its release. Modern day overfishing and climate change remain the biggest contemporary threats to their survival.

Yes, those things do happen, but 49 years later, is it reasonable to keep blaming this one film when, say, Egypt institutes a cull to pacify the coastal communities following a brutal shark attack? That would presume that, if the same attack had happened in 1974, they would have reacted differently. And sports fishing competitions being blamed on a single movie would be like saying someone who hunts a lion in modern times must have done so because they watched The Ghost and the Darkness.

Jaws terrified the audiences of 1975. The Jaws franchise turned comically absurd, with one film even involving the shark (who somehow survived the end of the first film) chasing a boat to the Caribbean because it was bent on revenge against a single human that it knew happened to be onboard. And since then, you’ve got films ranging from The Meg to Sharknado, on top of Discovery’s Shark Week and NatGeo’s Shark Fest. Viewers may not fully understand sharks, but they’re no longer terrified of Jaws. Sharks are a huge entertainment business now. People have developed a fascination with sharks. So a very pertinent question is, how much of current shark conservation efforts owe their existence to the attention sharks gained from Jaws? Then, has that outweighed any harm that can be _DIRECTLY_ attributed to any panic caused by Jaws when it first hit theaters? And finally, how much of what is currently still happening is being erroneously blamed on a film that’s 49 years old?
