You're gonna need a bigger boat soon!

LEGO has teased the next Ideas set, 21350 Jaws, on social media, suggesting that a full reveal is imminent.

For understandable reasons, the plot of the promotional short does not quite follow the script of the film, but is fun nonetheless. View it after the break.

By in United Kingdom,

To be fair if you watch Jaws backwards, it's the incredible story of a shark that heals people.

Full leak already out in the usual places, it looks very good.

By in Netherlands,

It does look very good (in the leaks). I think i want to buy it

Looks good. I still have my Jaws game from the late 1970s, where you had to hook junk out of his mouth without it shutting (a bit like Buckaroo). I wonder how this will look next to that.

On a unrelated note, the character assasination of the shark should be studied. They really aren't that bad, and you gotta consider that humans kill more sharks than sharks kill humans.

And they're better than the water weinstein's that are dolphins.

Step in the right direction. We need to get rid of the "no weapons", "no blood", "no violence" nonsense in adult oriented sets.

I would like to see Alien(s), Terminator, Rambo and other themes related sets :)

Lego broke this themselves a few times. I still got the “german wwii faction” plane from Raiders that comes with the German Mechanic that gets shredded into pieces by the rotorblades in the scene

I think First Blood I & II might be too politically charged in context of the time for Lego to ever make sets. I think a Diorama based on Alien would likely look pretty good, but im also not really exspecting Lego to make sets based on the IP.

Splendid, my mind is weary atm, how many lego sets are there from non-Lego-Star-Wars-Potter-Lotr-Hobbit movies, this one, BTtF and the Ghostbusters sets?

By in United States,

I'm taken back to when I first saw 31088 and started going "Lego shark, do, do, do, do, do, do..." to myself. I've never seen the movie (apparently they had so much trouble with the animatronic shark that Spielberg still has nightmares about it), but I'm still interested to see what the final product looks like, as aquatic Lego sets have always interested me.

@Patrik78: They've done Terminators, in 70807, 70814, and 70817.

It looks great in the leaks. I was worried that it would just be a diorama but they’ve given both options. Only thing I’d say is that the Orca is not as big or impressive as in the original submission, but after many disappointments this year, Lego has redeemed itself with this. Day One for me

BRUCE!!!!!!!

I actually saw the real deal on the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot tour. Also saw the BttF clock tower that has since sadly burned down, the Psycho house, several screen-used vehicles from various shows/movies, and the bridge where the Bionic Woman jumped out of the river (accomplished by taping her hair down and having her jump backwards off of the bridge, and then playing the footage in reverse).

@GenericLegoFan:
Sharks account for less human deaths annually than lightning (it’s typically in the single digits). In Gordon Ramsey’s Shark Bait special, he shows just how insane the shark finning industry is, both in terms of quantity and the final result. It’s basically just murdering the crap out of sharks to signal wealth.

@HOBBES:
It is abrasive, but only in one direction (tail-to-head). At the Aquarium of the Pacific, they have a shark petting pool, with some of the cuter, more docile species (epaulette, bamboo, and something else with a similar size/shape). If you go head-to-tail, it feels somewhat smooth.

One thing I have to say: a gigantic brick-built shark was incredibly unnecessary! https://brickset.com/parts/4530672/shark-8x16-no-1 would've been a much more movie-accurate size (and it can still eat Captain Quint).

I just don't know why the shark is so huge. Maybe LEGO's misleading us and we're getting a set based on The Meg instead?

Jaws was 25 feet long which was in the realm of possibility but Benchley had it at 20 feet which has been readily documented in the wild. My best guess at this set has the shark at 35 to 40 feet long? The Orca was 42 feet long. So the shark does indeed appear to be maybe 40% too big. But the LEGO molded shark is definitely not big enough. This shark could be a juvenile megaladon but adults were estimated to be twice this size.

Nothings wrong with the size of the shark imho.
LEGO figures and animals are all caricatured, stylized, out of proportion, etc. to work in/with the system.
And this shark, ‘large’ has presence, stands out more on display and against the boat.

I’ll still need to do a lot of work to get it down to _just_ the head where it can be displayed coming out of the water (preferably) at an angle, and may have to make some minor revisions to the mouthal area, but this could be a huge help.

The longest preserved specimen is 19.1’, but that’s with the caudal fin pressed down to stretch out the full length of the upper lobe, which is only achievable in the wild if they can capture and induce tonic immobility. The largest measured alive in the wild, and backed up by a reputable organization, is indeed 20’ (not Deep Blue, but a specimen that died after being entangled in fishing gear). However, it’s worth noting that the longest and largest are typically female (males tend to max out at 13’), and this doesn’t have the girth to be a female. So if this does scale out at 40ish feet, it’s about three times longer than most documented males. There is one notable exception, which is a male named Apache, live-captured and measured at a whopping 17.9”. This would only be a little over twice that length.

Janice wasn't great, but in fairness, the entire main cast was a collection of human toilets, all of them somehow worse than the next AND previous. They weren't our friends. They weren't even eachother's friends. She may have laughed like a horse in an abattoir, but as a person Janice was still way, way too good for that despicable Chandler.

Anyway, I feel you - I still love these little bricks, you know? I just feel kind of detached from the hobby at the moment. Life is busy, life is a lot. There isn't enough time, space and/or budget for Lego at times. I question some business-decisions, and notice that failing quality-standards have become a norm. I see people defending these questionable decisions and standards and norms, and I wonder if I need a hobby away from this hobby. It's not anything in particular, but it's a lot of little things, you know? It's the little things.

Anyway! Nice boat."
