A second Build Together set that encourages and facilitates collaborative building has been officially revealed today. Here's the press release:

41838 Travel Moments
1,231 pieces, rated 14+
$149.99 / €149.99 / £129.99
Released on 1st August, available for pre-order from today at LEGO.com

Today, the LEGO Group unveils its latest creation, the LEGO Travel Moments set, designed to capture the essence of personal travel experiences. This set invites builders to embark on a journey of creativity and exploration.

41838 Travel Moments offers a collaborative building experience, allowing up to five builders to construct simultaneously, with separate building instructions, bags, and modular components creating a shared experience. The set also allows you to showcase cherished travel memories, including photos, postcards, and souvenirs via clips. Builders can also personalise their adventures by marking visited destinations on a world map or planning future journeys.

The set was inspired by the winning model from LEGO Masters US season 4, and the version sold in the USA will have "exclusive content and a portrait of the LEGO Masters US winners, adding excitement and inspiration to the building process."

Those of us that have travelled extensively in Europe will have to use every stud on the continent to mark where we've been...

Will you be buying this set?

Yes, as soon as it's released
Yes, eventually
Maybe, I haven't made up my mind yet
No, it doesn't interest me

By in United States,

I love Lego, but I truly do not see an appeal for this seat at all? Who will buy this? If you want a large world display, the Globe is so much nicer looking. And this is way too large for a picture display on a shelf. Huge miss here, this line of photo-stand sets should be capped at the 20-50 range.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

£130? I find that third party retailers start off selling sets at RRP but very soon bring prices down to a more reasonable level that perhaps the sets should be priced at.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Map part is not bad, but definitely not worth the price tag. The weakest links are the plane and other vehicles. It does not even begin to capture the lego masters version and come across as a failed way to incorporate the show as well as an unnecessary way to inflate the price.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Now this is ugly..:

Gravatar
By in France,

The set feel small and very expensive, i don't get the point here
Why go for that when you have available a nice globe or, even better, the world map more suitable to pin locations and photos as its way bigger
I love travel but for me its a huge miss

Gravatar
By in United States,

First thing that came to mind was World Map 2.0.
I wasn't too enthralled with the model from the finale from Lego Masters to begin with, so I do think they made the right choice with having something more relatable to a wider market. But... Eh?
Conceptually I think it isn't too bad, but it really just feels like another niche display piece, similar to the Family Tree. Neat concept, but nothing I'm particularly interested in.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The map is good, the rest of it is awful and over priced. Especially those photo holders. I didn't like this when I first saw it and my opinion hasn't improved.

The art map is far superior.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This airplane is a clear winner for the most ugly version of an airplane ever created with Lego.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loving the comically oversized wheels on the car and caravan juxtaposed with the comically tiny wheels on the train (100% the weakest part of the set, it is barely recognisable)

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

If ever a set needed another few rounds of product development, this is it!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The small vehicles are so bad they've been left off the picture on the box...

Gravatar
By in United States,

$150 for 1231 pieces here is bananas. This is maaybe a $100 set that goes on clearance for $60.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For something that has supposedly got 1,231 pieces, where the heck are they? Looks like something with about a third of that number that shouldn't cost more then £35-40.... let alone being £130.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The plane is absolutely appalling. For an £80 then maybe it's semi-reasonable but for £140 you could hand-build something much more personal and meaningful, and stick a diecast model of a plane on it that actually looks like a plane...

By in United States,

I strive to be brutally honest in any situation, regarding my thoughts on LEGO sets and their quality. The creation of this set is so disrespectful to the hard work of Chris’ and Robert’s finale build. The Lego group made a microscale plane and slapped on the name World Wonderliner, but that’s all. They basically created a new set with little reference to the original build and from a design perspective, this is one of the worst LEGO sets I’ve ever seen. This Wonderliner is going to be one of sets we see marked down 50% to 75% in no time. Here’s what I would have done if I had control of redesigning the LEGO set, I would focus on the plane, make a great $100 plane (we’ve seen some nice ones in City) include a hidden section in the interior of the plane with the traveling scenes on the show that can be shifted with a rotating crank. The set should have also included minifigures of Chris and Robert (not sure if Lego would have to pay to use their likeness, but it would appeal to LEGO Masters and Duck Bricks fans) and maybe a pilot to navigate the plane. The only people I see actually buying this set is Duck Bricks and LEGO Masters fans, but other than that, your causal Lego fan would never buy this set, especially at $150.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Christopher and Robert got totally cheated! (Especially Christopher, who is a huge fan and worked all kinds of references to Lego themes into their builds, even if they couldn't say "Bionicle" on air.)

This is nothing but some vehicle polybags, a flat plate to inflate the piece count, tacked-on photo clips, and an airliner that's an insult to the presence that the LM plane had.

They strayed way too far here. A large airplane with 3 slots for interchangeable vignettes would have been so much better. And completely neglecting the "dreaming" aspect of the winning build that added charm and character. Was it fear of a lawsuit from Boeing for even hinting at "Dreamliner" that made them go T-tail and rear engines so it's more like an Embraer or Bombardier regional jet, ill-suited for worldwide adventures hinted at by the executive-meddling map?

(I know I'm hot under the collar, but I like aircraft, and I really enjoyed Christopher and Robert throughout the season. And I will take all this back if either of them says that they were closely involved in the transformation process, and they really like how it turned out.)

Big fail.

EDIT: I have seen Christopher's reveal video, and if he's genuinely happy with it, (not just put up to it by TLG, or feeling pressure to 'sell' it if he gets a royalty from the sale of each one,) then I'll be happy for him. Not what I was expecting, definitely "inspired by" rather than "based on," but if he's happy I won't complain.

I think it's a cute concept, but the execution is really not great.

I feel like this would have more appeal for a family who travels internationally (definitely not in my budget, unfortunately).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nope

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Probably the ugliest and most pointless set of all time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hands down one of the worst sets they've ever made. You literally couldn't give me one.

My first thought was that it looked like a Boeing 727, though there's some ambiguity in whether the build has a third engine or not.

Gravatar

This set makes Assault on Hoth look good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have heard of "Christmas in July" but not "April Fools' Day in July," at least not until now...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Doesn’t make the dense destination-dotted areas like Europe all that better for marking travel memories than the otherwise nicer and more interesting build The Globe- and makes the whole experience an ugly piece of creative art in the process. What a let-down for the Lego Masters name— which is probably why it’s not on the packaging.

Other option is a DC-9/MD-80. Lots of regional T-tails used to ply the skies around the world.

As to the set, way overpriced for what you get. As mentioned, the smaller vehicles are so bad, they aren't on the box art. Maybe $60.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Dead on arrival.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The globe is still on shelves right? The idea is fine, but as an undergrad law student who can’t afford to travel outside of Australia/New Zealand that often, this has almost zero practical use for me.

At least they included New Zealand.

It actually is there on the US box that shows piece count. "Inspired by Lego Masters" in the top right corner.

This looks like the sort of odd overpriced knock-off brand item you'd find in the back of the duty free catalogue on a plane.

This set doesn’t inspire confidence in ‘Lego Masters.’

Gravatar

looks bad compared to what we were all hoping for. DuckBricks should be disappointed. I guess since we got the globe, the flat earthers get their own world map. LOL.

Depicting the most polluting form of travel as the largest, and the cleanest the smallest is a miss for me. Otherwise, I also don't see the appeal of the rest of the set.

"Model sizes are proportional to carbon footprint"?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why do I get the feeling this set is going to show up in a lot of youtube list videos in the future?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm reliably informed by my Dad who is an expert on planes that it is an Embraer.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is why I absolutely hated the finale of this season of Lego Masters. The idea of making a set out of the winning build is interesting, but they should've focused on that instead of the generic "build something about you" that they told the teams. I knew when Christopher and Robert won the set would be ridiculously stupid and bad. The size of their build was impressive but the other two builds had more interesting concepts for potential sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I do not like this set at all for a lot of reasons:
The price is very high for nothing more than a display set. There's no playability for younger fans.
The map would be completely lost if on a shelft at-or-above eye level. It would resemble just another thick baseplate. If anything, the map base should be sloped.
The plane is the most rudimentary and ugly thing that could have been developed. The nosecone is horrible and the wings are at least 1 stud row too thin.
The train has these tiny little wheels, while the cars have humongous wheels. The scales are just completely wrong and visually bad.
For a set with 1,200+ pieces, you just don't get a feeling it has that many. Where are they? Are half used just for a flat base?
Those picture holders looks flimsy AF.
I didn't like this concept in the show's finale, but this final product is just far worse.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Trash set, the same failed idea of the Family Tree set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ummm $135 on Lego or groceries or insurance or an oil change for my 8 y/o car that I drive to work daily to barely make ends meet. Come on Lego read the room, we can’t afford expensive lego sets anymore. Nice sets and a lot that I want but come on. $500 for a set, rents are at $1,700 plus.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Something for flat earthers only.
And even for them this is ugly.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My jaw dropped when I saw the price. I genuinely thought this was a huge GWP or a $50-60 set. It's a cute idea but the model is very lackluster for $150, even though it has so many parts! I think the concept works and could appeal to people, but not at such a high price point.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Christoper and Robert helped design this, but this looks rather different compared to their model. At least their car in LEGO 2K Drive kind of matched better.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m a LEGO fan. I’m reasonably well travelled. This should appeal to me. It doesn’t.

Frankly, I’m struggling to understand why 10% in the poll like this. I’d genuinely like to know.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

At least the “flat earthers” have a set!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

While I kinda like the idea, excecution seems lacking. Too small, and for any customization you'll have to bring in your own parts. And the price is the final nail in the coffin.

After the Family Tree, another very weird set for those photo clips....

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is not even reminiscent of that winning model.
Why not at least have micro models of the forest, coliseum, and forbidden city from their model from the show? Plus other landmarks too.
And LEGO is far behind the times. Kids nor adults print out photos anymore. Yes some still do but not enough that anyone would buy this set:
This will be heavily discontinued soon.
Every company needs a write off.
Also in this economic climate what families are regularly jet setting around the world that would buy this set?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The map base though is cool to have.
Maybe I’d get this on discount and moc the map colors and moc a plane ala Indiana Jones travel map.

Duck Bricks is hoarding disorder masked under the guise of collecting

Gravatar
By in United States,

If this is the only set we get that was inspired by Lego Master’s S4 winning build, then I am extremely disappointed. The plane seems like just a footnote in this build. Nothing about this makes any sense whatsoever. And that price? Insanity.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it bad that I actually like this more than I probably would for a straight adaptation of Chris and Robert's winning model? The winning model was not only very specific to their own travel experiences as far as subject matter is concerned, but would have had to be quite bulky and awkward for display (previous large scale Lego plane models are bulky enough even WITHOUT having to be big enough for full-featured dioramas integrated into the top). The final set, by contrast, is a more conveniently sized/shaped display piece that's also much more adaptable to a buyer's personal travel experiences.

Totally. His collection is a huge mess. He's successful and has the money to get almost every lego set but how can he possibly enjoy his collection with stuff all over the walls and ceiling. Especially models not meant for the wall, they all look awful. So he couldn't swap out models, he needs all built and crammed into every space possible. It really looks terrible his collection.
God bless him though, he won the competition and they made a huge 'meh' set out of his and his partner's design.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I don't understand this set. How is it a travelling experience? This is an earth map, and some vehicles. So what?
You can clip some photos on those woegly-boegly things, which is ugly, but what is the concept?

Gravatar

This family has been to the South Island of New Zealand I see although gah only in the box picture. It’s a wonderful place, certainly worth a visit.

And finally, this set has been officially revealed! The images have been sitting in the database for a couple of weeks!

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't get all the flat-earther comments. It's not like this is the first depiction of the Earth's surface that was shaped like that.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

who designed the shape for australia on this??? it just isn't that shape, like cmon you have to many angled tiles it's not that hard

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks like Lego prioritized using those photo clip pieces (from family tree) over actually transforming the model into a product. If the goal is ‘use the photo pieces. Make it like family tree’ then this conversion was doomed from the start and should never have been made as it was.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I honestly didn't like any of the final builds but to me the winning one was the worst of the three. I'm not surprised at all by this abomination of an interpretation of the ridiculously oversized ugly winning build. I'm convinced that the actual winners are pre-determined before the competition even begins on the US version. I also hate that they showcase the individuals who appear to put little actual time & building effort into their creations leaving their quieter more talented partners to do the bulk of the work.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oof, the poll is currently at 736 response of which only ~30 are positive. Wouldn't be surprised if the set goes on sale before christmas.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Yooha:
There are three types of marker tiles. Cameras presumably mark where the attached photos were taken. Suitcases mark other places you’ve traveled, but not attached photos of. I think the third tile (of which there’s only one visible) is a house to mark where you live.

I don’t get it either. It’s easy to scientifically prove the Earth is found. If it was flat, cats would have pushed everything off by now, and dogs would have choked on anything that resembled food.

By in Albania,

Wow!

Gaby Dollhouse? Should be good for the demographic. Fussball table? Sounds great if you're into that. BTS Dynamite? Not for me, but I understand the band's popular. But this? To me this just screams 'designed by the marketing department'.

And I don't really get who they're targeting. People who travel, that don't see themselves as creative enough to use one of the 100,000 alternative ways to show their travels that are 1/10 of the cost this, and do impulse buys of € 150?

I think it's good that you can at least hang it up, but it just seems bad design that a focal point of the 'piece' (the photo arms) don't work in this configuration.

Overall; 'meh idea, bad execution'

edit: Nearly 70% not interested? I wonder if we're gonna see this at the end of the year lists for most/least liked sets.

South America's shape doesn't look quite right (although it would be difficult achieving accuracy in this scale), but it's cool to see that in the image of the box the round tile with the house is placed in Brazil!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Funny, absolutely funny (to me at least).
Turns out it doesn't need any comments by me to get one's dose of complaining (and plenty of it), now does it?

And the most ironic bit is, I actually quite like this set. The world map looks good to me, and the other features are decent add-ons imho. There have been worse planes over the years.
The only bit I agree on as far as complaints go is the absurd price.

Now I'll get back to sleep mode. Literally.
Take care.
:-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am not very impressed with the scale they have going on, way too many regions are distorted and the fact that the equator is almost 2/3 of the way down bugs my inner cartographer. Greenland is too large, Madagascar is too small, New Zealand got moved way far north, North America put on some weight, and the tip of South America got smooshed up. Australia kind of looks fine, but while the shape of Europe was preserved the relative size of it is quite scaled up. The world map mosaic, even as a straight Mercator projection, looks better IMO. (And the designs on the Globe set were very well done for the scale.) I don't dislike the concept (more map sets sound like they could be a lot of fun) just don't like the execution here.

(Yeah, that's right, my critiques have to do mostly with the map projection errors. Deal with it!)

I was actually having a hard time telling exactly where Brazil ends and the smaller countries to the southwest begin (I'm from Michigan, so don't really need to work too hard to find where I'm at on a world map).

Globe always wins when it comes to distortion, but it is rather hard to fold up and fit in your back pocket. Although, the LEGO version...

I have seen people frame their pressed pennies into the shape of a hot air balloon, so i have no trouble believing people would like this set.

Deal with it!)"

I don't get this set very much. Which I take as a sign it is not for me. I am sure maybe some aviation fans might like it though. That Mercator projection of the globe tho....it is 2024....common.

If Brickset had the equivalent of Reddit Gold, I'd give that to you for this comment.

Does it come with the photos :) very large stickers

Put me in the "nice idea, poor execution" camp. Just the map with some dots style 1x1 round tiles with various travel related icons, for half the price, and I'd probably consider it.

I really don't get this. As a table ornament it takes up a hell of a lot of space. As Lego it's naturally a dust gatherer. As a largely studded set, you can't even run a quick duster over it. And as a collaboration, it what, gets built once with maybe some photos added and that's it. All for a pretty weighty £130, which otherwise buys a lot of homewares

Is this set in the running for worst set ever? :)

Lego would have been better off making the winning prize based on one of Chris and Robert's builds from the season... rather than limiting themselves to the final build. The RC car or even the fall themed purse would have translated much better into a set than the huge finale build...

There's not a whole lot for aviation fans to like here either. The jump-jet B-model from 31094 shows what an approximately 28-stud-wide plane could be like, but this has as much presence as an enlarged version of the B-model from the $10 31071.

The map alone with a couple hundred 1x1 rounds (~$20 of value) could make for an interesting RISK board, if you take each patch of color as a different territory, and maybe some longer 1xN tiles to mark sea routes.

@tne328: A Lego Risk board, there's an idea. Hasbro owns Risk, so it wouldn't be the first Lego/Hasbro collaboration.

That would be interesting, although the time spent putting on and taking off 1x1 tiles would probably remove a lot of fun from the game....
But a board with moveable playing pieces perhaps.

I meant to say 1X1 round BRICKS, which are a lot easier to tilt and remove. Though 1x1 round tiles could just get piled on the territory. (And larger bricks to represent multiple units, perhaps 1X2 for 5, 2x2 for 10, is an obvious extension.)

21350 Jaws is the same price as this set ….. and that one is VASTLY better in every measurable and subjective way!!

If LEGO sells them side by side in stores, I’d expect the Jaws set to outsell this one at least 10 to 1 !

A contender for worst (/most overpriced) Lego set ever.

Expecting heavy heavy discounts on this.

This set is just a letdown and a disappointment, when I saw the leak the first time I thought "this can't really be the Lego Master set, right???"

Obviously we couldn't have gotten that big of a set, but this is just straight up something else and un-immaginative, it's just a photo hanger and nothing more

It's just a lame set and I do feel bad for DuckBricks and his partner getting this (even though he was happy to have it), it feels like a scam

I beg your pardon? We don't have that much sand in Siberia!

*upset bear noises*

But really. :) The top points of the Caspian and the Black Seas should be on a straight horizontal line. The sand should end at the row of one stud above it, not three. Look at Google maps.

If they used the map that shows heights depending on colors instead of satellite pictures, then they get mountain ridges in other countries very wrong... Pity, it was actually a nice idea.
