Disney Advent Calendar - Day 2
Posted by MeganL,Meeting Moana on our first day was a good way to start off the calendar. There's some debate as to whether all the characters shown in the box are princesses. The Disney expert in my family (a four year old) informed me in no uncertain terms that all five women pictured were princesses, so princesses they are.
It's too early to tell what the general theme of the calendar will be, so let's see if we have clues behind door number 2.
This is a nice scale model of Moana's island. I like how the designer, with just a few parts, has captured the palm trees, greenery, a structure, and even a shell on the beach. The printed tile is a really nice touch.
It's not overly seasonal (though it does include green), but a nice mini-model nonetheless.

Great, now what are we going to debate?
*Much pondering later* Ahah! Moana's Island of Motunui? Surely with the pounamu stone in that form of the heart its actually the isle of Te Fiti before Maui stole it.
Agreed. If the target audience says that Mirabel is a princess, then by goodness, someone get that girl a tiara.
I admit, it's been years since I've watched "Moana" so I had to look this one up. But I think it's a cute little model, and I love the printed tile -- also, it's great that there's a spare.
The good thing: put it anywhere in your LEGO City/Heatlake City/Ninjago City/Beach scene and it won't look out of place. Welcome addition.
@Zordboy European Moana or Rest-Of-The-World Moana?

I genuinely wasn't aware there was a difference?

I think there was an adult movie called moana released in some European countries years before the Disney movie. Thats atleast according to some brickset commenters on a prior article.
No italian-moana here in UK. It's just called Moana. Thankfully not Vaiana or Oceana or any other -ana's
I spent longer than I should have wondering why there was a blob of ice cream on the beach before realising…

You know, a simple time-out probably would've sufficed.
" @Zordboy : Italian Moana has lead an incredible albeit tragically short life, which would make for an amazing movie. Just... not a Disney-movie."
Yeah, I just read the Wikipedia article about her.

You think me above arguing with a 4 year old?
I have no such weakness...
Dios mio! I thought D1 was bad! Puke! No tiara can cover up this tramp stamp.
That looks like a weak Jefs, Jess, Jesh, Josh... oh, yes, Jeffffffs. (like a weak o)
Glad I didn't buy this one. Sorry for you Disney saps that did.

Wow. We're rioting early, this year. It's only day 2!
Anyone would think this was the Marvel calendar.

I blame the nog.
Also, on a more personal note, my boy just turned 18. So, that makes me a FREE MAN!!.
Thus, I plan on rioting continually for the next 50-60 years. I might settle down a bit after that.
To quote The Kills; "Doing it to Death."
Just for pedantry: "Disney Princesses" is a branding label independent of whether a Disney-owned character is a technical princess.
DC Comics' Captain Marvel (now popularly known as "Shazam") is not a Marvel Super Hero even though he is a Marvel and a super hero. Got it? Good.
Something to note: the region from which Moana originates will not celebrate Christmas the same way as people in Europe or the USA do, so this build's seasonality may not be as expected. To start with, the Pacific Islands are exceedingly unlikely to experience snowfall at any time of the year!

And Tamatoa... Toa Tama? Is Moana just a weird Bionicle AU?
The printed heart stone was the best today, especially as got 2. My daughter was excited for that. We also did not realise the white cream top was a shell, but my daughter had decided it was sea foam, which works as well!
If they also added a raft, Wilson!

Hitting it a little early, aren’t you?

They could have used one of those in the movie. Also, I’m pretty sure we’ve put @Ridgeheart in timeout before, and it doesn’t seem to have any effect.

(See above)
For people who really do buy these calenders, is there a consensus as to whether they're worth it regarding minifgures or what is the pull here, have never understood it?
Well... it's an island.
Maybe she veered off course and somehow went to Christmas Island.

Both were derived from Polynesian names, or something along those lines. Easter Island is known to the original inhabitants as Rapa Nui.

Well if you really want to debate with a 4 year old Disney expert.... I'll go get the popcorn... and your name engraved on the losers cup.
@Lamarider : Generally when It comes to the calendars, if you've got exclusive figs with them I count them along the lines of the collectable minifigure series and think If I'm willing to pay for those, the calendar is worth at least what I'd pay for those. Whatevers left over, I think of as 'bits packs', and judge how much I'd pay for random items you get. Usually though I tend to wait till they're on discount before buying them, but retailers seem to be getting more limited numbers of them over the last few years.
