Friends Advent Calendar - Day 20

Posted by ,

Yesterday we added two comfortable chairs to our indoor scene. While they were a nice substantial build, there wasn't much in the way of a festive feel to them. We're getting down to the last few days of the calendar, so hopefully we'll have a festive bent soon.

Today we meet the last member of the family, Jonathan - Paisley's and Ella's dad. He's performing an outdoor chore - chopping wood - though he doesn't seem to be quite dressed for the season! I'm a little disappointed that he's not wearing anything holiday themed like most of the rest of the family.

It's nice to see the whole family. Perhaps we will turn festive for the final few days.

I thought that was a gun for a second from the picture, "my, this calendar has taken a new direction!"

All male Friends figures with beards look kind of weird, because LEGO just designed the one head mould that was clearly designed for use in female characters, and when the time came for the first male character they cheaped out and simply printed a beard on a female head.

New Elementary says, "There are 2 main head shapes: On the top right is the most-used, often described as 'female' but there are also boys who use this version. The one on the top left is usually used for adult males. " https://www.newelementary.com/2022/05/old-elementary-10-years-of-lego-friends.html?m=1

Which would be fitting as Die Hard is a Christmas classic anyway.

By in Russian Federation,

Catching a quick glimpse of the photo, I saw a gun in his hand and two beer cans for the practice shooting. I was, like, ""Whaaaaa?" xD

City got a realistic fire axe a few waves ago, but I like the classic feel of this one. A bit more versatile

Maybe it's just because I've not owned any minidolls myself, but I had no idea that they had any variance at all in head - or, as the article also points out - torso moulds; I assumed that, like minifigures, one mould was used for everyone regardless of age or gender. That's so fascinating, thanks for sharing the link!

Will Heartlake turn into Twin Peaks? Find out more next season...

From the initial picture angle, I though that the mini doll had a gun.

We sure this isn’t Johnathan Kent?

Although I think that the Advent Calendars are low point of Lego sets I would certainly consider buying a Die Hard/Monty Python mashup one. Maybe next year.

I'm a bit surprised at the people who thought he had a gun at first glance. Even leaving aside the fact that Friends sets never have guns (nor do any sets depicting real-world, modern day settings), Lego doesn't make any gun pieces that look like that.

All the same, that was my first reaction too. Something about how the axe is seriously foreshortened in the photograph, I believe.
