City Advent Calendar - Day 18
Posted by MeganL,
Yesterday we took a turn for the festive, when we met Mrs. Claus, the latest in a lineup of excellent minifigs we've seen in this calendar. If only we could say the same about the builds! Maybe that will change on opening today's door.
This is a delightful little build! A small reindeer with an even more micro sleigh. I'm wondering why the reindeer doesn't have a red nose, but that would be easily remedied with a common extra part.
It's a sparse build - I wouldn't mind seeing a couple more bricks for the sleigh - but it does depict the reindeer and the sleigh quite well. As with the train in Friends on Day 16, I'm happy to see this is all behind one door and hasn't been spread across two days.

This is, frankly, adorable.
And it keeps to the theme of toys for the Ugly Sweater Family Children, that is, a micro version of 40499 (albeit, a few reindeer short).
But, between this and Mrs Claus yesterday, it feels like the calendar is trying to buy our forgiveness. Like, no, it's far too little, far too late.

Am I the only one who takes extra bits--particularly the 24 days of spare pieces--and tries to make mini-builds bigger?
I took a whole bunch of extra pieces and was able to make last year's Star Wars mini Endor speeder bike into a minifigure-sized chibi bike.

Which explains the non-red nosed reindeer.
If they added a red nose to the reindeer, then they'd have to pay licensing fees since the Rudolph story is owned by The Rudolph Company apparently.
Not much space for Santa or his sack.

Funny thing about that. Rudolph is under copyright, having originally appeared in a coloring book, before being licensed for the song, and ultimately to Rankin-Bass for the animated special. And then Rankin-Bass put a copyright of “MCLXIV” (1164) instead of “MCMLXIV” (1964), effectively ceding all original characters to the public domain as soon as the special was first broadcast. So Rudolph is the only part of the animated special that has ironclad copyright.
What happened to that poor reindeer??!! He must of really stopped short!
'One-in-a-million shot, doc.'
Someone call Dr. Assman, proctologist.
It looks like the sled bumped into Rudolp really hard...
"Rudolph, the brown-nosed reindeer
Very good at sucking up..."
No red nose?
I have to say that last year's City AC 60381 had a much better reindeer and sleigh, though. https://images.brickset.com/sets/large/60381-1.jpg?202303230615
They put the reindeer in the washing machine and it shrunk. Not even the baby can ride its sleigh at that size.

That one was built over three separate days, though.

Well, baby can always lay across the seat…back. Not even close to the most comfortable seat (I once crewed in a yacht race where we had to sit over the seat backs), but I guess it’ll get you, you know, wherever. Hopefully that reindeer has GPS, so you’ll at least end up where you wanted. Probably the nearest hospital.

For a weird second I thought you meant Gold Plastic Syndrome (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Gold_Plastic_Syndrome) and was like, "Why would you want it to have that?"

What, me and Grampa aren't allowed to desire justifiable revenge? That thing's a menace!
Appropriate? Probably not, but relatable anyway:
