Spider-Man Advent Calendar - Day 3

Posted by ,

Yesterday's web accessories were rather poor, but with Spider-Man fully equipped, I hope we can move to a more substantial and interesting model on day three.

Find out after the break...

Peter often needs to hide his backpack somewhere in New York City when donning his Spider-Man garb and this newspaper rack will suffice! Though not exciting, this is a reasonable model and I like its festive colours, aided by the adjoining green bin. The sculpted detail on top is also effective, featuring a red roller skate.

You can connect one of the aforementioned web accessories to keep Peter's backpack secure in the box, which is a nice addition. Perhaps those pieces will be used throughout the calendar.

Overall - This is a welcome piece of scenery, especially for its seasonal red and green colours.

Oh my goodness. I always thought the weapons racks were the worst thing we ever got from these advent calendars, but the marvel one really is pulling out all the stops to prove me wrong.

It’s kinda a pile of junk (literally in the case of the bin) but I respect that they’ve at least made it fit the theme, being one of Spidey’s hidey-holes. Better than some of the random junk last years attempt gave us

This could have used an actual printed newspaper 1x2 tile, and it wouldn't have hurt to get a green dish for a trash can lid or a banana for trash.

I added a spare glass pane to the front of the newspaper bin, because I had one available and what newspaper bin is open on three sides like that?

And there was a better example of a newspaper bin in 76058.

It's sizable and I like the colors.
The idea is okay and it has the backpack and train windows.

That's about it for me.

Off topic, but I love the font for the countdown images. Almost but not quite Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Great job!

You know, the newspaper box (kids, this was a real thing, last century) looks fairly decent. But now all I can think of is the short film of Deadpool changing into his costume to save someone who’s being mugged.

Web-on rack.

Interesting.

I actually think this is quite a fun little build. It's very efficient in how it uses pieces, and yet it would fit in perfectly on any modular street.

"Nice outfit!" "Shut it, Stan Lee!"

I rarely keep these "scenery" type builds built for long past the 25th, but I always enjoy them.

Honestly, in terms of the last couple of Marvel calendars, this is really par for the course.

My wife has always got me a Lego advent calendar, as I’m a big marvel fan she opted for this one.
Well it’s only day 3 and I gave to say I so disappointed :-(. Day 2’s webbing my heart dropped then today we get a dustbin and a ‘thing’ no not THE Thing , just a thing.
Not really sure what it is , but I have to say this 58 year old is a very sad boy :-(

Don't buy the Marvel ACs! They're designed by drunk interns with no budget.

The red object is a newspaper box. You’d put coins in the thing at the top, which would release a catch that allows you to open the face of the box, and then you can pull a newspaper out before letting the door spring shut again. Once shut, it’ll latch and the next person has to pay again to get it open. Or you could always just pay once and take the entire stack. They weren’t super high tech, because there wasn’t much of a black market for stolen newspapers. Most people were satisfied with just taking one, unless maybe they had a massive flock of parakeets whose cages needed to be lined.

I remember when I was a kid and we were visiting my mom’s mother in the nursing home, I got sent to buy a newspaper for my mom. Keep in mind that this was a tiny little two-street town (one commercial, one residential). The money went in a canister that had a slot in the lid and was chained to the box. And there was a rock sitting on the stack of newspapers to keep them from blowing away.

I like it! In the Spider-Man lore, he’s always hiding his backpack somewhere.
