Spider-Man Advent Calendar - Day 8

Posted by ,

I have been fairly impressed with the pieces of New York City scenery in this Advent Calendar, though it feels like we have drifted away from Spider-Man to some degree.

I hope that changes today...

Indeed it does, as we receive a mini version of Miles Morales' car from 76244 Miles Morales vs. Morbius! The model's black and red colours are immediately identifiable with Miles and I like the trans-red windscreen, which corresponds with the original set. In addition, the car looks very sleek, although I think a 1x2 slope could be more effective for the nose.

However, my favourite detail is the trans-light blue spearhead representing a flaming exhaust at the back, again matching 76244 Miles Morales vs. Morbius. A spare is included as well, which is useful for a relatively uncommon piece.

Overall - Miles Morales' car looks superb at this scale, serving as a toy for the minifigures.

Marvel's great difficulty qua Lego is that it's not known for its vehicles. You have the X-Men's Blackbird and the Avengers' Quinjet and...that bathtub the Fantastic Four fly and that's it. Honestly, city scenes work so much better for Marvel.

If we get a Marvel calendar next year, I hope it does X-Men, which will be a little more amenable to 24 small builds. (Blackbird, a micro mansion, some Danger Room vignettes). Otherwise, we're going to get more non-iconic cars.

Don’t think I’d have recognised it if not specifically mentioned by the article. It’s at least roughly spider themed even if it’s not something I’d automatically associate with Miles

He's too young to drive. This is clearly Dreadflipper's car. Miles must be working for him, like Frostflipper.

That’s Spider-Man’s car. Unless we’re gonna start calling the other one “Peter Parker’s Monster Truck.”

I wanted to get a City calendar last year, but waited to long and only the Marvel calendar was available. I wanted to get the Marvel and city this year, but again I waited to long and was only able to get the Marvel. Guess nest year I need to order the City one in October.

As for today's build, I thought it was a train when I saw the picture. It was only after I built it that I realized it was a red Batmobile. Hopefully this is a sign that next year there will finally be a DC calendar. I would not even mind if it was just Batman themed. In any case it needs to include Calendar Man.

TLBM, with 24 Crazy Batsuits! They can even charge $100, and it’ll be good value.

In addition to what @b2_O said, I can think of one (admittedly mundane) Marvel vehicle associated with the X-Men: Wolverine's motorcycle.

I don't know what a "dreadverse of multiflippers" is, but it doesn't sound pleasant, does it?

I think the primary issue is that the better known Marvel vehicles are team vehicles, such as the ones you named and the various Guardians of the Galaxy spaceships. Individual heroes tend to either not use vehicles for transportation a good portion of the time (Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, etc.) or make use of ones that aren’t particularly distinctive (motorcycles that aren’t designed to look like their costumes, standard military helicopters, etc.) There are exceptions, like Ghost Rider, but that does seem to be how things are generally. That, or we get vehicles like this-and other Spider-themed ones-that can come across as strange. Like, what does Spider-Man need a car for when he can websling?
