Spider-Man Advent Calendar - Day 24

Posted by ,

I was very pleased with yesterday's Spider-Ham snowman, although I hope the Advent Calendar has not peaked before the end. A new minifigure to finish would be ideal.

See how the calendar concludes below...

I think this Electro-themed Christmas tree would be a good inclusion on any other day, but as the climax to the Advent Calendar and following a fantastic snowman yesterday, I find it quite disappointing. The shape of the tree is very basic, but taking advantage of its green colour to make reference to Electro, with some decorative bolts of electricity, is a clever idea.

Overall - This is a decent model, but a mediocre climax to the Advent Calendar.

Summary

Marvel Advent Calendars have generally been criticised since their introduction, suffering from an obviously scant budget for new printed elements and often lacking festive theming. Sadly, I feel much the same about 76293 Spider-Man 2024 Advent Calendar. Though not as messy as the disjointed effort from last year and avoiding any truly embarrassing days, many of the items included are underwhelming.

There have been some highlights though, including the Spider-Ham snowman, the clockwork Rhino and the fireplace with stockings themed for Spider-Man. Miles Morales in his Christmas jumper was also a welcome addition, albeit not quite as good as the festive minifigures we have seen in previous calendars, in my opinion.

Rumour has it that the Marvel Advent Calendar will not be returning next year. Whether or not that is true, the indifferent reaction to the rumour from many fans, myself included, provides a clear indication that these sets are not working.

What do you think of the Spider-Man Advent Calendar and what, if anything, would you have changed about it if you had the chance? Let us know in the comments.

Ditch the pizza build, replace it with J Jonah Jameson with a newspaper tile.

Oh boo hoo! Let me play a sad song for you on the world's smallest violin!

Throughout the history of comics, there have been Christmas episodes. It is mystifying to me that the Marvel calendar can't be a better value. The work has been done for them. Pick items from the comics, provide holiday decorated versions of everyone's favorite heroes and villains. This isn't hard. They're just making it look very difficult.

It's a shame for it to end. Yet, it's deserving. I have picked up all the editions. After the first year, I've waited until they are under $20 for the subsequent iterations.

I do like today's lighting tree, but it's kind of a weak Jeff ending, but I've a sneaking suspicion that the SW AC is going to be much, much worse!

But they didn’t put an Electro in the calendar? That’s like putting a Loki throne and tesseract in last years without a Loki. Could even have given us classic goofy costume Electro so his five pointed mask matched the five pointed star. Would have taken that over the latest in a very long line of Venoms

A very strange final build - the Spider-Ham snowman would have been a better finish by far. And I agree that including an Electro tree without Electro is a bizarre more.

Spider-Ham snowman was the highlight of this advent calendar. Miles Morales in his Christmas jumper is cool too, but other than those two minifigs, this is a totally forgettable advent calendar, much like most most of the other Marvel advent calendars -- or really most of the LEGO advent calendars in recent years.

For what it's worth, I find today's build creative for a tree.

The overall calender though... there were some things I liked but on the whole it feels a bit tenuous.

I like this unusual tree, although I do hope that the electro-volts are LED…otherwise, quite a fire hazard.

Thanks for the fun reviews, CapnRex!

Woah, woah, woah! Woah! You don’t need to burn the entire place down in embarrassment!

I like the construction for the tree. I can picture a modern artistic styled tree built in this way with but with 8 trans green lightning bolts to make up the body of the tree.

This looks the worst of the marvel advents, they've always been a little hit and miss but I did like the GOTG theme as it actually aligned to a Christmas theme.

I suspect the problem is trying to shoehorn Christmas into marvel (or the MCU) when other calendars have a greater catalogue to draw on.

I hope they drop the Harry Potter one next, they’ve blatantly run out of source material for the HP calendars and nobody buys them.

DC would work. Batman canonically trained under Santa after all…

Some of the builds representing New York were cool, if not specifically Spider-Man or festive they are still usable in other builds, my favourites were the computer desk and fireplace. I would have liked a few more unique outfits for our Minifigs or even fleshy heads w/ hair so they could eat their pizza! As pointed out multiple times Green Goblin should have been festive to match his glider. The worst for me was the Spider-Man candycane, but if people wanted it to be directly Spider-Man themed that was a monkey-paw move there. Won’t be missing the calendar next year, already have my 2024 Lego SW calendar for 2025.
It’s been a pleasure again this year, Merry Christmas Capt’n!

And Santa penetrates Apokolips' defenses every year to deliver coal to Darkseid. Which made Thanos' lump of coal in 76196 particularly funny.

They haven’t even touched the Slug Club party, nobody could _find_ the HPAC this year, it’s consistently been one of the best of the bunch every year since it started, and everybody knows that’s not the true reason you’d like to see it cancelled.
