Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 2

Posted by ,

Just as the Spider-Man Advent Calendar started with Spider-Man, Harry emerged on day one of his Advent Calendar. Also, he was accompanied by a plinth to display something.

Door number two may reveal that something...

The four Hogwarts houses are associated with particular animals and Gryffindor has the lion, reflecting the house's values of bravery and adventurousness. This rendition of a lion is quite basic, but I like how the mane is assembled using 1x1 slopes and the stubby limbs, formed by 1x1 tooth elements, are cute.

The 3x3 wedge plate mounted on its back looks awkward, but is intended to represent wings, inspired by the winged statues found in the Great Hall onscreen. This is a fun concept for the Advent Calendar and the statue certainly looks better once attached to yesterday's plinth, but people could be forgiven for struggling to recognise this.

Overall - Even though this statue is very simple, I think it works once placed atop the printed plinth.

I'm sorry, but this looks like a griffin sitting on its hiney with its limbs extended in front of it. A lion? Come now. Appreciate the designer was limited with what they could do.

I’m not sure I’d have guessed “lion” when looking at that devoid of context. “Tardigrade” maybe

By in Netherlands,

It reminded me more of a panda the way it's sitting.

That said, I guess it might be more familiar once the other three statues and plinths are there as well...

Oh boy, another 3 days like this and a further 3 figs withs the base preceding them. Oh boy oh boy

Reckon most folks were stumped as to what this was supposed to be going by the comments on Facebook :)

I agree, putting the statute on its plinth makes this build.

I like how they've captured the lion's characteristic fan-shaped tail and stabby little feet.

I expect to see Batman brooding on top of that on the corner of a building somewhere in Gotham

It's definitely an object, of that much I am certain.

The lion opens the dor, and the snake slithers in.

I would not call that a lion. Yes the Gryffindor tile is below it, but as far as I am aware, lions don't have wings.

I'd call it just a statue for the Great Hall or something. It doesn't have to be a representative of any of the houses. *shrug*

If you put the wedge plate higher (so the point of the plate engages the bracket) it looks much more like the lion's mane. Insruction error?

Oh, I know! It's a tardigrade statue.

Maybe it's sitting on the toilet, like Elijah mockingly said.

As @PurpleDave said, it's got wings, so it's a tardigriff.

Clearly, this is an Utapaun monk cudgel. Looks like the real thing too, not the ceremonial variety.

I thought this was supposed to be a winged boar........
