Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 6
Posted by CapnRex101,
Six days into this Harry Potter Advent Calendar, we have only received a single minifigure thus far. Surely a second will emerge from the sixth door of the calendar.
Let's open the door and see...
Draco Malfoy is an ideal counterpart for Harry, also including a new torso. The green and light bluish grey Slytherin scarf looks excellent beside the Slytherin crest, although like Harry before, this is not a costume from the movies. Varying options for Hogwarts uniforms are always useful though, given the number of students needed to recreate many scenes.
I do wonder whether simply manufacturing the scarf element in a couple of new colours would have been equally effective, thus leaving slots open for other new printed pieces. On the other hand, many Harry Potter minifigures feature printed scarves, so at least this is consistent.
The slick hair piece and both facial expressions suit Draco perfectly, while his usual black wand is also provided. Additionally, a plinth with a decorated Slytherin tile accompanies the minifigure, matching the Gryffindor version that arrived with Harry a few days ago. I think we can predict an item to go on top arriving next.
Overall - Draco looks great in his Slytherin uniform, adding a second exclusive minifigure to this calendar.

Friendly reminder that no one is under any obligation to invite their bigoted "friend" over for Christmas.
I'm loving this variation of minifigures, adds a bit of winter fun
My father will hear about this!

You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.
I like that the torsos on Harry and Draco are actually different from each other aside from the colors. The tassels are pointing in different directions, the crease lines are different. Say what you will about some of the filler gifts in the HP calendars, but they are generally pretty good when it comes to printed pieces and mini figures.

Could have given them scarf in the appropriate colours but I suspect they wanted the animal logos on there and I don’t think you can print on a scarf piece

he's like an annoying in law or cousin who gets invited solely because one member of the family nominally enjoys them
That scarf looks freaking cool
"Friendly (not actually) reminder that in a season of generosity and goodwill you should NOT extend generosity and goodwill to THOSE unspeakable people!"
I love you comments section, never change and never touch grass ... er ... snow.
HP calendar is probably my favorite this year. The quality between each selection seems the most consistent so far. Certainly getting ahead of the Spidey calendar, whose quality is about as inconsistent as Phases 4 and 5 of the MCU.

I agree with everything you said. I undoubtedly also agree with the prior commentor's views, but they expressed them incredibly poorly (as is usual for our times).
After all, the first definition of 'bigot' is "one who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ."
Most people who spit the term out with venomous acrimony are unaware of their instantaneous hypocrisy (as is usual for our times).
Good ol' Draco -gave Snape a kill-steal on Dumbledore- Malfoy. His middle name was unused in the books because it was considered too much of a spoiler.
The snake sigil design looks a bit weird. Maybe it's because I'm so used to the design used in the original run of Harry Potter sets, but it looks more like a dragon IMHO.
For 'Draco' that's pretty apt though, at least.

And blonde. They have more fun!
These scarfs remember the ones from Hogwarts Legacy. This one even more because I played with a Slytherin student.

Nice. That's why I said I agreed with the original comment.
I just don't like their terms. If you're going to be opinionated, I think it's important to educate yourself on the language you use. You can't easily label another a 'bigot' without becoming one.
Quick and easy condemnation is almost always hypocritical, and should be avoided. If one must judge, there should be careful thought.
Nevertheless, that does not mean we can't forbid intolerance, as you succinctly provided in your reference.
Just be cool, Honey Bunny or risk the anger of the righteous man.

No, I don't think it makes me a bigot to say that white supremacism, for instance, is bigotry. You're free to disagree, but if you do I'd recommend maybe not sharing that.

In the films, their scarves are almost always striped, which becomes a massive pain to even attempt to print on that element. Far easier to print it in the torso.
@Andrusi:
You assume too much. @StyleCounselor is right on this one. I know people who have begun shutting anyone out of their lives who don’t immediately agree with them 100% on certain subjects, or if you even admit that you understand the opposing point of view on their critical subjects, you are ghosted. I’ve encountered people who claim you need to be tolerant of all the letters in the club, but make it quite clear that they’re willing to kick all the other letters out if their needs aren’t put first. I also remember when Wonder Woman got appointed an honorary UN Goodwill Ambassador _for_a_day_, people threw a fit because she’s white, and you apparently can’t be inclusive without excluding people who aren’t like you.

F---k white supremacy along with all those other supremacies! Excepting merit and intelligence.
That said, being a bigot has to do intolerance, not preconceived notions of what is ok to tolerate.
For the record, I tolerate very little... especially stupidity.

I believe you meant to say 'technically correct.'
@StyleCounselor said:
"I believe you meant to say 'technically correct.'"
You are technically…incorrect. Nope, I meant you were 100%, fully correct. When the first thing you do to create inclusivity is to write up a list of which groups to _ex_clude, you are a cookie-cutter demonstration of the old adage, “two wrongs don’t make a right.”
Or, to put it in modern terms, how many times do you have to punch someone in the face to get them to start liking you? If you kick everyone else out of the club, will you even realize that all you really did was quit? And will anyone else in the club notice that you’re gone? Will they care?
Anyone who finds that their solution to being “othered” by everyone else is to just “other” them back really needs to read about Daryl Davis, a black man who has collected hundreds of Klan robes by befriending their former owners.
Oh my God, yes, please, please continue lecturing the marginalised people on how they should let themselves be slapped in the face by bigots who hate them because they were born different, because kicking such people out of your life is impolite or something. This is exactly what every marginalised person wants to hear. We love being lectured on whether how we live our lives is suitable or not. It's great, really.

I wrote too much, and, of course, it was sent to the ether.
In sum, yes, I agree. We need to come together and f--k the companies/conglomerates trying to separate us. Looking at you, Murdoch!
Also, ready to fight the Fascists at will.
Until then, keep on laughing.
