Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 8
Posted by CapnRex101,It would be hard to surpass yesterday's superb minikit under any circumstances, but especially since only eleven sets were introduced in 2006, so there is relatively little to draw from.
Nonetheless, this calendar has impressed so far and I expect similar quality today...
Jabba's Sail Barge is an excellent choice for the Advent Calendar. Not only is 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge perhaps the most memorable Star Wars set of 2006, but some lucky LEGO fans will likely be receiving 75397 Jabba's Sail Barge for Christmas, so this is a lovely teaser! The proportions of the vehicle are slightly odd, but I like its general shape and the angled sails.
Those features certainly improve on the Sail Barge from the 2015 Advent Calendar, but I did like the tiny steering vanes on the original version, so both designs have their strengths and weaknesses.
Overall - I think Jabba's Sail Barge translates well to microscale form and is a good selection for 2006.

This is a vast improvement over 75097. I make little vignettes of my Advent Calendar builds and replace and retire when an older model becomes outdated. I now declare 75097 to be...retired.
6. HP Cool building technique, yes, but a bit boring compared to the other entries (0 points today + 16 points previously earned = 16 points total)
5. City Nice accessory (1+18=19)
4. SW It works! (2+17=19)
3. Fr Spidey wants "his" mailbox back! (3+19=22)
2. SM VROOM! It's an RC car, OKAY!? (4+17=21)
1. Dis Can't help myself, but I love the bust! (5+15=20)
All the people who thought the sails were too low on the UCS one, is this more to your liking? :D
Part of me wishes they’d given this a matched pair for the sails. The other part of me wants to see what it looks like before agreeing.
This is actually my first Sail Barge. Also, is this the first time a set has had more of one side angled slope than other side?
It certainly is recognizable. And I guess that the sailbarge is a decent choice to represent 2006.
Day 1: X-Wing - representing 7140 from 1999
Day 2: Princess Leia - representing her first appearance in 2000
Day 3: TIE Fighter - representing 7146 from 2001
Day 4: Super Battle Droid - representing its first appearance in 2002
Day 5: AT-AT Walker - representing 4483 from 2003
Day 6: Y-Wing - representing 7262 from 2004
Day 7: Minikit - representing LEGO Star Wars: The Videogame, released in 2005
Day 8: Jabba's Sail Barge - representing 6210 from 2006 (the year that I was born, actually)
I always try to guess the build from the pieces before looking at the inside of the door, and I COULD NOT get this one. But what a cute little model it turns out to be!

I completely agree, or at least have the opposing pair in another model. I noticed this with a Christmas tree in the city calendar one year that had left wedge plates, but then the following year they used right and my pair was complete!!! Will SW do the same and force us to buy two calendars?
Finally! A budget version that won’t hurt my wallet!
I remembered 2006 being a very sparse year for LEGO Star Wars. The Interceptor and B-Wing were the only ones that sprung to mind. The Sail Barge is a good choice, even if the model is a huge step down from the 2015 version. I'm glad I didn't buy this calendar, but it's very fun to follow the reviews here!

It's ironic that the sail height is one of the only flaws of the UCS version, and are exaggerated here.
I actually like the previous one more, the sails are too high on this one. Although accuracy for this microbuilds isnt really a factor

Why do you continue to ignore 10134 for day six? 7262 wasn't an exact re-release of 7150 (even ignoring the change to the grays, they altered the design of Vader's TIE slightly), but the fact remains tha you pick is still visually indistinguishable from a 1999 design.

This is the third SWAC I've bought in a row, and the eighth I've bought overall (not to mention the three on my wanted list), so there's a decent chance I'd be getting next year's, anyway, no forcing (or should that be Forcing?) necessary.
