Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 19

Posted by ,

The Last Jedi was released in 2017, introducing various new vehicles, none of which have been selected for the six Star Wars Advent Calendars produced since, between 2018 and 2023.

That could change with the seventh...

It seems LEGO has an aversion to acknowledging the Sequel Trilogy in this Advent Calendar, which some will doubtless appreciate, but I think is a shame. Even so, we do receive a vessel never before seen in a Star Wars Advent Calendar, with Yoda's modified starfighter, introduced when Yoda travels the galaxy to learn about the Force in season six of The Clone Wars.

LEGO has attempted the fighter a few times already, including in 75168 Yoda's Jedi Starfighter from 2017. Ironically, this model probably captures its most proportions most accurately, as the cockpit should be enormous in relation to the wings. A blue 1x1 round plates represents R2-D2 in his socket and I love the lime green 1x1 bracket, which could depict Yoda seated inside.

Overall - This is a remarkably effective rendition of Yoda's starfighter, with clever use of colour to represent Yoda and Artoo on board.

Oh, and here I thought this was the Jedi *interceptor,* which still hasn't been made in Advent form. Shoot.

the yoda detail is really nice. seeing some techniques used to achieve smaller things that wouldn't have any reason to be in models any larger than an advent day is nice to see

C'mon guys, you know that today should have been Snowtroopers Bob and Tim :-/

Here is today's ranking (in my opinion):
6. Friends
5. Disney
4. Star Wars
3. City
2. Spider-Man
1. Harry Potter

I don't usually cal micro-builds in Star Wars Advent Calendars "cute," but this stubby little thing qualifies, at least IMHO. 75360 was actually sitting near my calendar as I built this. I didn't go and get it, it just happened to be sitting about a foot and a half away.

I've never watched TCW far enough to see this ship, but I have an odd sort of affection for it. It just such a goofy little thing, while also bridging the gap between Eta-2 and TIE. Adorable model, love the bracket Yoda, love that R2 puts in a second micro appearance this year.

(That said, @ResIpsaLoquitur is also correct, we should absolutely have an Eta-2 interceptor in an advent calendar some time!)

While there is very little information about Yoda's starfighter in canon, it probably could be classified as an interceptor. Clearly, it is not a traditional Eta-2, but I have always considered Yoda's fighter to be a variant.

If I were developing its backstory, I would name it something like the Eta-2C, an even more compact version of the Eta-2 designed specifically for diminutive pilots.

I have an aversion to acknowledging any SW movie set after The Force Awakens.

Easily the worst Advent Calendar build so far, from one of the worst Clone Wars arcs. They could've just had Force ghosts be a normal thing for Jedi, but NOOOO, you have to do a ton of studying and a ton of galactic voyaging to do it. One thing I'm glad the Kenobi series retconned with Qui-Gon's Force ghost appearing.

They could have re-used the printed R2-D2 1x1 round tile from 75329!

I like this. I think it's brilliant and has good use of parts. I think it's great that this year's AC is attempting models that have never been included in a previous calendar.

It appears Yoda is naked with part of him sticking out the starfighter's rear. Maybe the rest of the Jedi weren't wrong in thinking he was going senile in that episode.

It'd be pretty hard to microscale the wings.

Yeah, it’s a shame the advent calendar doesn’t seem to be including any micro scale versions of the sub theme with dozens of sets that composed the line for a fifth of its life. Especially since this calendar is seemingly a celebration of said line.

The Prequel fans got their victim complex, now it’s the Sequel fans’ turn I guess?

Exactly the recognition that TLJ deserves in this calendar. Nature is healing. There's beauty in this world.

I still wish they'd used that tile in 30654. I know they retire and decommission unused molds after five years, but I have no idea how long a print has to go unused before they get rid of it.

Hard disagree. I think the ability to retain consciousness after death as a Force Ghost should be a difficult thing to do, rather than an incidental and entirely normal thing for anyone who happens to be a Jedi. That would devalue the whole idea, not to mention creating significant story issues. Surely there would be tens of thousands of Force Ghosts all over the place in the Star Wars universe if it was something that could happen accidentally?

Also, the Kenobi series retconned nothing in that regard. Qui-Gon's training was incomplete in life, but can continue after death. That is how Anakin gained the ability when he died. We know Qui-Gon's spirit continued to communicate with Yoda after that Clone Wars arc from a deleted scene in Revenge of the Sith*, so I like to think Yoda, now possessing the knowledge for himself, was able to guide Qui-Gon to a full manifestation.

*We see Yoda meditating on Polis Massa before Bail Organa enters to report that Obi-Wan is returning from Mustafar and that scene was planned to be longer, with Qui-Gon speaking to Yoda through the Force.

The novel and comics adaptations in 2005 actually incorporated Qui Gon. Those books used to be published contemporaneously with or earlier than the films and they often relied on earlier versions of the script with cut scenes.

I sense a half-hour comedy series in the making. The only question is if it’s the American version, with the adorable Rose McIver (yes, I appreciate the irony), or the British version that feels more like a rough draft for the American clone.

If it was an ability any Jedi could have, the universe would be full of force ghosts.

Just exactly what was forced reconned in The Last Skywalker. Blech!

6. Fr At first, I wanted to rank the chairs higher but noted that they're not versatile (0 points today + 40 points previously earned = 40 points total)
5. Dis A bit festive, but the colours aren't right. (1+37=38)
4. SW Only for the creative move to have yoda represented by a lime brackett (2+41=43)
3. City No carrot? =/ (3+54=57)
2. SM As stated by the Captain, a missed opportunity but I guess it's still a good minifig. (4+36=40)
1. HP Prof. Flitwick deserves an additional Santa hat!. And coat! And sack! And elven ears...! (5+47=52)
