Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 21

Posted by ,

LEGO Star Wars celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019 and I wonder whether today's item will mark that occasion in some way. If not, there is plenty more besides to draw upon.

See what day 21 brings after the break...

Although not related specifically to the 20th anniversary, Fortress Vader on Mustafar makes total sense for the Advent Calendar. 75251 Darth Vader's Castle was launched in 2019 and the castle offers an easily recognisable shape, ideal for a small scale iteration, which is why it has appeared twice before in Advent Calendars! This design is very similar to that from 2020, albeit without the grey or dark tan pieces, which I consider a positive change.

Overall - Darth Vader's castle works brilliantly at this scale, though it would have been great to have something new for the Advent Calendar.

Three days ago, I didn't realize what I was building until I finished it. Today, I had a different realization upon completing the build. Namely, that if you laid this thing on its back, it would make a great microscale spaceship! It would still even look like somewhat like something out of Star Wars.

By in Netherlands,

It kind of looks like a spaceship.

Cool to see something from Rogue One again, and the set this homages was a novel one.

Looks more like a Mandalorian Gauntlet than the actual Mandalorian Gauntlet we got from this calendar

I like the shadow box version. But, it's a little redundant.

Future designers for the Lego Batman Advent Calendar are taking notes on this for helping with ideas for microscale Batwing.

I always disliked the name for 75251 as "Darth Vader's Castle". It seems a bit too much like they were trying to make Vader into a Disney Princess!

Any thing like: Fortress, Bunker, Citadel or even Sith Clubhouse would have been a better name IMHO

Fortress, Bunker, or Citadel would work. Sith Clubhouse almost sounds like something out of Rebuild the Galaxy. I can just picture Darth Jar Jar. "Meesa in da hizzouse!"

The lack of sequel models feels like an embarrassing admission. Missing models from every sequel film release year is a miss, regardless of how you feel about the movies.

I find it a bit wierd that they used the 1x1 bricks with studs on two opposite sides instead of the version with stud on only one side. Both black and dark-bley are in current production, so I don't think it would be about trying to shave costs on the parts budget.

I laughed so hard. That was funny. I agree with you on "castle". Weird choice of word.

I have to sort agree. Say what you will about the prequel's plot and writing, cool spaceships are cool spaceships!

6. Dis Idk, partial builds won't ever be interesting, even when the final thing is good (0 points today + 38 points previously earned = 38 points total)
5. SW It becomes a starship when it tips over (1+47=48)
4. HP Duck! Oh no! I said DUCK! -- Quack? (2+54=56)
3. Fr I wonder in how many countries the fireplace-DVD was a hotseller (3+45=48)
2. City It's to scale and the sword is a reason for recall (4+58=62)
1. SM works with or without the last day's build. Clever! (5+43=48)

I meant the sequels, not the prequels. I hate it when I don't realize I made a mistake in a post until after the edit window has already closed.

@jkb: You're being awfully generous to the Spider-Man calendar today. How does it work without yesterday's build? And you're being unfair to the Star Wars calendar, as microscale spaceships (whether or not the model was designed to be one) are awesome!

You underestimate my power! I'm just joshing. I like it too, for reasons I stated earlier.

By in United States,

@jkb:
We displayed at Cranbrook House in Metro Detroit a couple weeks ago, and they had a nutcracker that stands 4-5' tall in the reception hall of the main house. One of the kids who was there for family photos slipped around behind it, and it does apparently have a working nutcracker mechanism, though I don't know if it has the geometry or strength required to actually crack nuts (nor was I even considering testing it out myself). It had a sword that was comparably smaller in scale, and it was also sheathed.

@TheOtherMike:
Your subconscious clearly prefers the prequels. And the sled does sorta work on its own. I wouldn't try going downhill on it, without raised tips on the runners, especially since those daredevil kids can only stand upright on it, but you could hook up a towline and pull it over snow.

The trailer works as sleigh. And I'm really, really, REALLY not into microscale.

By in United States,

Yawn. Cool build I guess, but we've already gotten this, and I prefer the one from 75279, if only for that little TIE Bomber it came with.

Look at my username; you'll know what I wanted today, lol.

Absolutely; adding to your point — the only two movies that were acknowledged for their release years were AotC and RO. That means that Episodes I, III, VII, VIII, IX, and Solo were all ignored during their release years, and there were great sets for all of them released during those respective years.

To be fair, Episode I came out the same year that the Star Wars line started, and the X-Wing is one of the most iconic starfighters in all of sci-fi.

Definitely agree with you there — I could let that one slide, for sure. I don't want to go dissing the X-wing (probably one of my favorite builds in this set).

Well sure but Rogue One has 2 models and the entire sequel trilogy has nothing. I get not having different versions of the X-Wing or Tie Fighter but no Kylo Ren's shuttle? No Resistance Bomber? Nothing?

Exactly! Those two would have been awesome! I think I brought up in one of the other threads that a microbuild of 75189 would have been great, especially since they've never done that before.

I'm not sure how you'd make it clear that it wasn't just another AT-AT, though, considering the scale.

Maybe hunch the back a little more, add a 1x2 plate to the front feet to give it that "Gorilla Walker" look, and maybe have a piece on top to denote the main cannon? (idk, just spitballing)
