Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 22
Posted by CapnRex101,
LEGO Star Wars expanded to over 60 sets each year in the late 2010s, although the theme was scaled back a little in 2020. Still, there are many options for today's Advent Calendar item.
See what was selected below...
The Mandalorian debuted in 2019, but much of its merchandise did not arrive until a year later, including 75292 The Razor Crest. That provides the basis for today's vehicle, which is already the third model of the Razor Crest available in an Advent Calendar. This is my favourite of the three, taking some aspects of the 2021 design, but featuring more colour, with flame yellowish orange tiles on either side.
Those splashes of colour look nice and I like the laser cannons on the front too. The cockpit is odd though, consisting of a trans-black 1x1 half rounded tile and a trans-brown 1x1 slope. The slope has evidently not been produced in the new shade yet and the combination looks slightly awkward, but it is hardly noticeable.
Overall - Advent Calendar iterations of the Razor Crest continue to improve and it is difficult to resist swooshing this vehicle!

I'd love to, at some point, see Brickset do comparisons of how various Advent micro-vehicles have changed over the years. We currently have five Millennium Falcons, four Y-wings, three Razor Crests, two Obi-Wan Starfighters, and an R2 unit made into a tree (sorry, couldn't resist).
I can't tell if this Razor Crest is more "accurate" than last year's. The yellow is nice, although the amount of yellow on the "real" ship is actually very minimal.
Here is today's ranking (in my opinion):
6. Disney
5. Spider-Man
4. Star Wars
3. Harry Potter
2. Friends
1. City
Slightly strange they didn't use the 1x1x1 round tile with the hole in the middle for the engines. Luckily there are a couple of spares from other calendar builds to swap them out!
Personally, I think today is the weakest day of AC countdown across all themes.
6. Dis Worse than yesterday, but the clock tile is nice (0 points today + 38 points previously earned = 38 points total)
5. Fr Most basic, though within the Friends design language. means only one star as decoration (1+48=49)
4. SM Hmm. Colourful. (2+48=50)
3. City Some AFOLs complain LEGO doesn't like making trains (3+58=61)
2. HP At this point, I wish for wider benches (4+56=60)
1. SW Without doubt the most substatial build today (5+48=53)
I got a second AT-AT today... these mistakes seem to be getter more frequent. but hey, only the best with LEGO right?

I'd consider today's better. For one thing, it has festive touches.
"3. City Some AFOLs complain LEGO doesn't like making trains (3+58=61)"
They don't mind making them, they just insist on giving them a very low piece count.
I was wondering if it was just me that got trans brown and trans black in the same bag.
Build it then break it into pieces again to replicate the events of Season 2 Episode 6!

I have to agree.
"6. Dis Worse than yesterday, but the clock tile is nice (0+38=38 points total)"
Not worst of all IMO, but I agree this mini-castle build is disappointing as the climax of a calendar.
"3. City Some AFOLs complain LEGO doesn't like making trains (3+58=61)"
Obviously TLC loves *toy* trains. The real thing? Not so much.
"2. HP At this point, I wish for wider benches (4+56=60)"
Another table at this stage of the calendar? I was quite disappointed, myself.

I've made a grid image which has all the builds from all the advent calendars day by day and year by year- not sure how I can share it though. I've been using it myself to compare the builds from previous years without needing to find my actual builds
Well, there you go. All you people complaining about not enough Disney Wars stuff, here's the one thing that's safe to include.

I understand what you mean by this, but it still sounds pretty funny.

I haven't watched the show, but when I heard they did that I thought that it was really dumb that they destroyed it that quick; it was a cool ship.
It's hard for me to get excited about this when it's already been our third Razor Crest in the past five calendars.
This calendar actually started off a lot better than I had expected, but sadly hasn't wowed me in the past couple of days. Oh well....
