SDCC Exclusive Batmobile revealed

Posted by ,

LEGO has unveiled the third SDCC Exclusive set, the LEGO Super Heroes: DC Comics San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile (a bit of a mouthful - possibly the longest title for a LEGO set ever?).

It is to be released in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the franchise, and is aiming to inspire nostalgia with its classic Cadillac grill and tailfins. Two minifigures will be included, Batman and Robin dressed in their 'classic get-ups'.

The minifigures look to be the same as those featured in a Juniors set earlier in the year which should please minifigure completists. It would also seem to suggest that the Rocket minifigure in the Marvel SDCC exclusive set may find it's way into a retail set sooner or later.

See below for the packaging picture.

Update: FBTB have posted that the final exclusive minifigure to be given away at SDCC will be Zur-En-Arrh Batman. There's no photo yet but we'll let you know when one is revealed.

An 8-wide car? Really? I mean, I realize you can fit both figs in it, but it's almost as wide as it is long.

Still a cool set though. Not that I'm ever going to be getting it anyway, but $35 is really astronomical for this set.

Aw, man. That's a cool chibi Batmobile. Screw this tired, ridiculous SDCC exclusive nonsense.

For accuracy's sake, the Robin minifig's legs should be bare with green shoes, and the mark shouldn't have the flared edges.

I sure hope the full-sized Ideas Batmobile isn't in jeopardy because of this set, which practically no one will ever own.

It's cute, but not what I was expecting. And that is a good thing. I won't be drooling over it now. I was worried it was going to be awesome with an exclusive figure. These figures look like the same two that came in that Defend the Batcave junior set. Can that be confirmed?

It's adorable! I love it. I know a lot of people were hoping for a full-size one, but this one has the same cutesy charm as the Star Wars microfighters while still having seating for both Batman and Robin. Plus, now that we know there are no licensing complications, there's always the possibility of getting a full minifig-scale version at some point in the future.

Oh my. If they take Batman sets there that would be awesome. The Bat-copter, the villains, the Green Hornet cameos, that gold tank with flat patrol car, Chief O'Hara, etcetera. Much potential if LEGO were to go there. Was there not a pizza slice exclusive with the first ever tmnt sets? Maybe next year we can get non kre-O Star Trek. This batmobile looks great by the way. Though a tad like a Junior inspired.

By in Germany,

About the exclusive Rocket and Collector minifigs - those are not going to be available in a set. There will be no GotG sets in 2015 and even the current run is pretty limited (in production numbers and period compared to the X-Jet, Spider-Man sets etc). Sorry to say.

This is one of those "wish I was there" moments. I want that set so bad! Come on, Comic Con!

Getting really tired of this SDCC exclusive line. Another set I would pay for… TLG for once is being easy on my wallet?!

I'm sick of this SDCC malarkey! I'd buy this set for £/$35 in a flash if it was available. I love the classic series of Batman but there's no way I'm gonna pay some shmuck twice the price for it just because I don't live in America and Lego can't be bothered to listen to feedback from customers about not doing this kind of thing anymore.......rant over.

@Modok- And he should have bear arms w/green hands and brown hair. Batman should be dk blue, too.

@obiron: Why would the LEGO Group stop doing something because people who aren't affected by it in any way complain? If the LEGO Group were somehow taking sets away from you that you already owned, then you might have reason to complain, but they don't do that (and can't).

You'd be no better off if these exclusives didn't exist than you are now. I'll never understand why people get so bitter about the possibility of other people owning things they don't have and don't need.

Do you have to go to comic con to get this

These all look like common parts and one can probably just BL the Juniors figs, so that is a definite thumbs-up from me.

Will somebody post the instructions and part list for this set when it comes out?

@lego lego lego:
Sadly, you must attend the SDCC to get this as a set, but you can buy the Juniors line "Defend the Batcave" for US $30, and then you could get the parts list, as they're all common pieces. Same with the "The Ghost" set.

Gotta be honest. I'm far more interested in the Zur-En-Arrh Batman, and more disappointed that I won't get the chance to own that one (but that'll go in the same file as Captain Marvel, Phoenix, Bizarro and Green Lantern. Sad smiley face).

@Modok, I share your concern about the Sam Gras project on LEGO Ideas. I really like his proposal and hopefully this doesn't preclude that one going through. I'm going to share it on Twitter and FB again right now that I've gotten this extra motivation!

Oh thank christ. I was momentarily terrified they would blow a potentially amazing set on an exclusive. This is cute, fun, and a great souvenir --- but doesn't preclude the possibility of legitimate Batman '66 sets down the road.

Not expecting much, but a minifig-scale (ish) '66 Batmobile would be amaaaaaazing.

The SDCC exclusives this year don't seem nearly as brutal as the past two. The Collector is probably the one you'd most expect to see in a set, but I can easily live without Batman of zur-en-ar or whatever he's called. It's not missing out on freakin' Bizarro and Phoenix!

I think this is a great exclusive set for SDCC. It's unique and pays homage to the theme rather well, but it's still not something that would necessarily be in high demand on the whole market... or at least it's not something I would go out of my way to purchase. Plus, it doesn't look like it has any unique pieces, so it probably wouldn't be that hard to build from one's collection. So the Comic Con people can brag about their exclusive and I don't have to be jealous about it... win-win!

By in Australia,

I think Lego got it right with this one. If they released new exclusive 1960s Batman and Robin then I think they would have got it totally wrong. This set looks like it's if not totally than almost totally buildable from readily available parts which is great for those that want to make their own, And for those lucky enough to grab one, they get the cool packaging and instructions and I'm sure they'll still fetch a premium on the after market. I think everyone wins here... if the rest of us can get a copy of the instructions that is.

A very cute set - if only it wasn't an SDCC exclusive...

The SDCC Batmobile is cute but it really does not do the 1966 Batmobile justice. I really would love to see the Batmobile on Ideas become a set.

I love it--I would totally love having this! I like the idea of building this with pieces I already own (or BL a few of them).

This SDCC exclusive nonsense is ,in my eyes, damaging TLG's image just like the stupid Mr Gold idea! All these sets only available to the very lucky few is a kick in the teeth to many loyal Afol's and enthusiasts (or is it just me) who don't have unlimited funds to scour Ebay for these cool sets at hugely inflated prices! Badly done TLG!!

By in United States,

If we get a separate '66 Batmobile as a general release, then this is a cute early preview and I'm cool with it. If it's an alternative to ever doing a real '66 Batmobile release - no thanks.

By in United States,

There are people paying over 400 dollars for this set on ebay right now are people stupid that set can be built the min a parts list hits lego for cheap

That is cute. Yep annoying it's exclusive I suppose but this would be a nice one to get the brick list and instructions for! :) Quite small :).

I spoke to someone in the Lego store today and he said that this set is coming in-store! Rumoured date Aug 13 but not confirmed and this could be for VIPs first.
