By in New Zealand,

I need all those sand green bricks, it's my favourite Lego colour!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

But the best set that has been revealed today has got to be that unicorn castle. Who doesn't want one of those!

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Creator is doing fantastic! The Horse is my favorite from this series.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm going to be broke. Between the Bricklink sets and the Creator 3 in 1, The Arctic Train and the HP sets not to mention a few others it's going to be a very expensive summer and fall.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

What an odd bunch of sets for creator. They are cool, there are some must get’s like the castle, but I can’t help but miss the vehicles and family houses creator once was all about

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the Haunted House much more than I expected - a ghost ship and a train are both inspired choices. Even as a non-horror fan I'm probably going to grab that. The only qualm is I wish it had a Dracula figure.

The castle is good once again, though I can understand complaints about it compared to the previous version (though that also had a lot of complaints initially from what I recall). Almost certainly going to get it, though maybe not immediately and I want to see more pictures of it. It seems to be really nicely playable overall!

Unicorn castle is nifty, but not my thing. Rotary phone is another well-built replica model, and blessedly doesn't have flowers stapled on. Toucan is fine enough. The horse is well designed, but I'm more drawn to that lovely bear and deer builds.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Close enough, welcome back 10228.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice try. Welcome back, Monster Fighters!

Maybe I'll army-build the Steampunk Inventor and make some new-gen characters to combat them.

Also really excited for that Castle! Two brand-new factions in one C3n1 set is unheard of, and the builds are amazing! I'm just praying that LEGO learns from the Wolfpack mistake and puts the new torsos on Pick-A-Brick Bestseller for people to army-build with.

By in Australia,

Haunted House? Amazing.
The toucan? Gorgeous.
The castle? Sublime.
The retro phone? At least it doesn't have flowers growing out of it.
The unicorn castle? I would push small children and old ladies out of the way to get one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that, with the Castle set, - - Sir Edmond Blackadder?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not the only one that sees 31166 and immediately is reminded of that April Fools' "Majestic Horse" LEGO did a couple years ago, am I? Looks like they decided to improve the design a bit....

Also getting some Time Cruisers vibes from that train B-model for 31167.

And is 31175 an unofficial LEGO My Little Pony set, or what? I know it says unicorns, but only one of them has the horn... the other two are Pegasi....

"Some say, it's the most beloved Monster Fighter set ever, and that it can make people part with loads of money for an original MISB copy.

All we know is, it's not 10228.
It's 10228's 2025 cousin"

Nobody is talking about how this is technically our VERY FIRST unicorn piece. Sure we've had Vidiyo Bronies and medieval horse armor with space for a horn, but this our first legit, single-mold LEGO unicorn. Hopefully we get an adult variant soon?

Make that three or four! Or at least splurging on the cones on pab for a future rainbow star fleet.

Haunted house is also a must as I’ve not got a ghost in my collection.

Funny. That's the first thing I thought too when I saw it. Where are the gratuitous flowers sprouting out of it? :-p

Seriously though, these are some mighty cool sets. And hopefully reasonably priced too.
Definitely going to be getting some of them.

And I am so looking forward to the review of the Unicorn Castle by Thomas, aka Held der Steine.
That is going to be fun I predict.

I absolutely went, that’s 010423 Majestic Horse, when I saw it! Maybe the April Fools was actually LEGOs earliest ever leak of a pre production model?

Gravatar

This is the closest we're getting to LEGO My Little Pony. That unicorn castle's got Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie.

Knowing Lego's trends, that will probably happen.

Castle and Mansion >> DAY 1

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Last year's 3-in-1s were exceptional. This year's appear quite average, seeming to have dropped an age level. The Unicorn Castle particularly, looks more like a 4+ than an 8+.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Forget more castle; finally, we have another haunted house. LEGO needs more spooky sets! A basic ghost should never not be on shelves.

2 years to design a LEGO set

By in Netherlands,

Haunted Mansion, i wish it had the grey monster of Frankenstein instead of the green one. The designs of the monster of F and the werewolf are very samesy as their predecessors, innit? A bit weird they used cute eyes on that tree and ghost behind the windows.
I hope we’ll get a white werewolf one day. My werewolfpack needs some variation

Gravatar
By in United States,

If I had the space, I'd definitely get 31167. I love the alt models. But, the only one I get will probably be 31174. I love the touch of the pencil and notepad, and I like the cord.

In the land of OMG BIG GIANT MONSTER TOUCANS, I am afraid.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks LEGO for supporting resellers. Prices for Vampire minifigs should increase, like what happened with King minifigs after the release of LKC.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Toucan will look good on a pint of Guinness as a MOC. I have the big Haunted House and Hocus Pocus so don't need another Haunted House but needs the figs !

Gravatar
By in France,

Unicorns ? Unicorns ?!? My daughter is going to be so thrilled!
And I love the haunted house, is a perfect set to build just for Halloween (for a reasonable price !)

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I am very impressed with this wave. I like all of them, even the phone set looks tempting (finally no foliage growing out of it). The Castle looks splendid and so do the alt builds, it looks like a perfect play set! That jousting alt build is such a good homage to 383-2 (brickbuild horses!) and 6060 (layout). I am going to have a quite a headscratch to decide what to spend my limited money on this summer, damn you Lego!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

At least, the start of the Father Ted theme we've all be waiting for. The branding on the box is a bit subtle though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was really surprised not to see flowers in the phone set. Disappointed by the castle, but I was probably expecting too much. At least it looks more realistic. A sort of budget version of the bricklink sets.

Gravatar

why horses brick built in the castle set?

By in Netherlands,

Love 31168 + 6 figs, 4 new torso prints, return of the crown, yellow plume and creator dragon on background box
- using head from 31120

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The brick built horses in 31168 just don't appear quite right. I actually think the original ones from the yellow castle and jousting set looked better!

So with 31166, I wonder if we will ever see a Creator knight on a horse set in that scale...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I feel like the horse one *almost* looks like a non-branded Disney set, except that one of the models resembles a character from Dreamworks rather than Disney. Still, with those colours it does look at a glance like Rain from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (not quite the right patterning for her though), adult!Bambi and Kenai from Brother Bear all in one set...!

I'm not a horror / halloween type guy, but I do enjoy what feels to me like a reference to 6497 Twisted Time Train in alternate model the Haunted House set! Whether intentional or not, I don't know, but it's a fun nod if so ^^

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish the haunted house had tried to be more than a cheap remake. Different colors for the building and minifigures more meaningfully different from the Monster Fighters and CMF renditions would make it more worth getting for all collectors, not just the ones who missed the original Haunted House and older figures. The vampire comes the closest to being distinct enough to get as her own minifigure, but she still feels like a hybrid of previous figures.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Just took a second closer look through these and love that the alternate builds for the 31174 Retro Telephone are a flip phone and a classic "brick" cellphone. (brick the building material, not the LEGO)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I honestly think 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle is a serious downgrade from the previous 3-in-1 castle. It doesn't look nowhere near as good. The only thing it seriously improves on is that it includes a generous amount of minifigures, and surprisingly not two nostalgia-based factions, but completely new ones! For castle fans, that makes this set worth getting alone. I honestly prefer that jousting tournament alternate build over the main one, which is an obvious rework of set 10223-1.

Quite right. I actually like the non-main builds more than the castle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think the brick-built horses in the Castle set are really clever, although since it has minifigs in it seems odd it doesn't get minifig horses.
And impressive as the horse is, I just want to see if someone can rebuild it into a (differently coloured) rabbit to go with last year's.

The bear is my favourite, too.
Need to see it next to the fox of 31154, the scale might not work all that well, but would make a nice combo!

I just think the name of the set is rather funny, why call the horse "beautiful"?
According to LEGO, 5836 is a beautiful baby princess, but I don't think everybody agrees.

By in United States,

The Unicorns make me think of this old song by the Irish Rovers:

'A long time ago, when the earth was still green
And there were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
They'd run around free while the earth was being born
But the loveliest of all was the unicorn

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn

Now god seen some sinnin' and it gave him pain
And he says, "stand back, I'm going to make it rain"
He says, "hey, brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do
Build me a floating zoo"

And take some of them green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorn"

Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started fallin'
He marched in the animals two by two
And he called out as they went through
"Hey, Lord"
I've got your green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just can't see no unicorn"

Then Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns was hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was pouring
Oh, them silly unicorns

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, "close the doors 'cause the rain is pourin'
And we just can't wait for no unicorns"

The ark started movin', it drifted with the tide
Them unicorns looked up from the rock and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
And that's why you'll never see a unicorn, to this very day

You'll see green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorn'

We now have almost all the animals to recreate this song, if someone was inclined to do so. (missing only the Geese!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, I NEED that mansion!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

What stands out to me the most about these sets are the minifigures.
Usually, the minifigures in 3 in 1 Creator sets feel like an afterthought, mostly reusing pieces from other themes, the one prominent ecception was 31132, which introduced a bunch of new torsos, and even a new minifigure hair piece, something unprecedented for this theme.
This new batch of figures looks even better, however! The ghost and the unicorn are new molds, most figures have leg printing, there is basically no figure made of only reused pieces, new Castle factions, remakes of https://brickset.com/minifigs/mof008 and https://brickset.com/sets/8804-7/The-Monster.

I love it

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of each except the horse... And maybe two of a couple of them. What a great line-up. Creator 3-in-1 is consistently Lego's best series. We love building one, leaving it out a month or two, then doing another of the builds...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Best theme of todays announcements by a country mile. Every one of these has done an amazing job at the designs at their target price points. Designers should be commended.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This whole series totally knocks it out of the ballpark--and into orbit, even! I can take a pass on the telephones (since they don't have flowers) but admire the set a good deal, and the rest of them are *all* going straight onto my wishlist--at the top. I sympathize with those who wanted regular rather than brick-built horses but the brick-built ones are very clever as well as being more traditional in Creator sets. The actual castle is less elegant than the previous Creator Castle but I like its flexibility, and of course the new and delightful factions.

This is going to be an expensive summer--but I'm definitely not going into another Dark Age after all!

Teasing aside...

I love that Creators emphasis on building techniques also applies to minifig-scale animals. I think it's an important lesson that a lot of people have forgotten. LEGO did a great job with the castle set's horses.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I'm trying to figure out if 31168 connects with 31120.

Looking at the back of the boxes they have the same clips at the same height, but there are slight differences. In 31120 the clip protrudes while the bar is recessed, while in 31168 it looks like the clip is recessed while the bar produdes. As far as I can tell this means they're not able to clip easily together with a small amount of modification.

Still it's pretty cool that LEGO obviously have it in mind that these castles should be compatible in some way.

Personally I don't have a preference between the old castle and the new castle, they're both obviously different designs and I appreciate that. And I appreciate the expansion of the minifig selection, even if all the new knights appear to have the same torso.

I actually heard this song as a kid, but not from the Irish Rovers. The original author was Shel Silverstein, a comedy poet (the same guy that wrote "A Boy Named Sue"), and I had a book of his works when I was young. Good to know someone else appreciates it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this is the wave that fully made me realize how underrated Creator is. Sure, its kind of a leftover bin of previous sets, but that's what LEGO has always been! The Golden Age of LEGO never ended, its just living on in these traditional, enjoyable sets allowing for infinite creativity without being restricted to the confines of the set itself. There aren't inaccuracies or bad printing, no unnecessary stickers, and no licenses to hike up the price. More people need to buy LEGO Creator.

This might be the first seasonal wave in a long time where I get every set. They're all great.

The horse looks amazing! As someone who has collected Breyer (but these days, more Schleich and such), LEGO did something that looks decent compared to them. Guessing it'll build out to around the same size as my 1:9 Traditional scale horses.

Rotary Phone--one literally saved our hides during Helene. Modern cordless phones work off AC, but old ones worked off what voltage is in the phone line. Despite having no cell service or power, the GTE Princess worked off the slight voltage in phone lines to allow us to contact the outside world. And blue looks better than that sort of fleshtone pink the old GTE came in.

Haunted Mansion and Medieval Castle--Yes please!

Just me, or does the Unicorn castle appear to use Friends horse/unicorn molds?

I'm quite surprised by the minifigure selection in the haunted house. You normally don't see CMF-quality minifigures in Creator 3-in-1 sets.

I assume the Horse Knights are a new faction, rather than a reboot of something from the 20th Century. I'm happy to see that this year's castle breaks the model of four towers around a courtyard followed by 7094, 7946, 70404, and 31120.

That's not going to work going forward. By law, phone companies have been required to maintain massive batteries to provide that faint voltage that powers traditional landline phones. Problem is, they're expensive to manufacture and maintain, and once cable companies figured out how to provide a competitive alternative in VOIP, the traditional phone companies followed suit. Having used pricing to convince most of their customers to switch over to VOIP, they finally got Congress to eliminate the battery requirement. As a result, traditional landline service will no longer function going forward, and only VOIP, cellular, and satellite will be options going forward. VOIP requires an AC outlet to function, and the other two need one to charge. So, if you still live in a hurricane zone, your only option might be to get a sat phone and a solar recharger, because everything else relies on infrastructure that's just as vulnerable as you are.

Frystem horses don't have squared off hooves. They're all ovoid, like the minidoll feet. Pretty sure the pegasi are just recolors of the foal from 71032-5, with the wings from 71048-9 snapped on the stud. Unicorn appears to be a new mold based on that same foal body, but with changes to the hair design.

As a Telephone Exchange Technician from 1973 to 1992 the telephone is a must for me.

By in Belgium,

As someone who learned to build with the Castle sets of the late '80s and early '90s, I'm stoked to see Lego come up with new factions in 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle. I'm not a fan of brick-built animals, but since it's a Creator 3-in-1 set, it makes sense. I hope someone is able to design nice stickers for the bardings, so I can substitute the brick-built ones with actual Lego horses. I do admit that I will buy Fego bardings fromn Uncle Ali to put the stickers on, and not ruin actual Lego ones. :D
