LEGO Marvel has been running continuously for thirteen years, but has somehow avoided any sets containing the Fantastic Four, until now!

Ahead of the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July, LEGO has today unveiled 76316 Fantastic Four vs. Galactus Construction Figure, a 427-piece set arriving on the 1st of June and costing £54.99, $59.99 or €59.99.

The minifigures are undoubtedly the highlight here, but it is good to see Galactus in LEGO form at last too.

What do you think of the Fantastic Four's LEGO debut? Let us know in the comments.

Galactus is perfect, I will definitely be buying this once it goes on sale. Just wish the Fantastic Four's powers were reflected in more than just handheld accessories.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh Ben, they done you dirty!

Gravatar
By in Bulgaria,

surprisingly reasonable price for a Marvel set to get all the figures in one set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Galactus looks great, but they've cheaped out on the minifigs as they're all literally the same apart from the heads and accessories.

Think maybe I'm confusing one of the video games, but could have sworn they'd done Fantastic Four figs before.

Agreed. Ben in particular just looks ridiculous with those huge hands at the end of regular mini-fig arms. A big-fig probably would have been TOO big, but something more like Hagrid would have been perfect. And no printed flames on Johnny's torso?? Come on. Or maybe a transparent arm / leg for Sue? They definitely got lazy on the figures. Galactus looks terrific though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I believe this will be a Day 1 buy AND build for me. I’ve been waiting a long time to add the F4 to my Marvel collection. It would be nice if Lego produces an upscaled Galactus alarm clock with sound effects.

Gravatar
By in France,

Galactus!! I need this set... except the F4 minifigs aren't fantastic at all, yikes !

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love everything except the figures. Lego really did the bare minimum with all four.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The Thing looks ridiculous. Ok set otherwise.

Reed Richard's torso is slightly different, but three our of four figures are almost exactly the same. It's a disgrace for them to do the First Family of marvel this way! (I wish they had made a set of the Fantasticar from the trailer, as it look awesome!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego, I am once again asking to stop using the Jyn Erso head on every female character. It is now being used on three MCU characters. What happens when those characters meet, and you have to include them in a set together?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Galactus is basically perfect. Sue is probably the best minifigure here, but she's still not perfect. Johnny's face print looks nothing like Joseph Quinn. The Thing's head piece looks kind of weird. But I don't mind him just being a minifigure, seeing as how the MCU Thing isn't too much bigger than the average human. Reed is just a mess though. His face print looks nothing like Pedro Pascal (which is stupid since we've already had several face prints for Din Djarin). The brick built stretchy legs are also quite bad. Galactus really is the highlight here.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I would have dual moulded parts of Sue and Johnny (assuming this is technically possible). Still, there’s nothing wrong with having ‘stock’ versions of the minifigures - and it’s good that they didn’t go the Incredibles route of having minifigures scattered across multiple sets.

I don’t mind the minifigures too much - it makes it easier for them to be integrated into models, and given the source material it’s not too out of character. I’d like a model of Herbie at some point: I love his retrofuturistic styling.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Saw this comment elsewhere: unusual case of a Marvel set with a great build and below average figures.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think the figs are alright for what they are, not sure there's much more one could reasonably expect from the torso prints or the thing.

Though I do feel dual-molded legs with white boots was a missed opportunity and would have REALLY elevated them. Guess I gotta keep an eye out for when there hopefully get produced

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

That's not a big Thing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The inclusion of "Construction Figure" in the set name will never not sound weird to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe the most exciting thing is this effectively confirms Galactus' classic design is what will be used for the new movie.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Must…have…this!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So Johnny doesn't go on fire in this one?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why couldn’t the set be named The Fantastic Four vs. Galactus.
Why add in ‘construction figure’?
Strange no?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

LEGO saves costs by not having dual moulded minifig legs.
LEGO saves costs by not having a purpose moulded torso for the Thing.
LEGO saves costs by having the Thing's hands be the same colour as the other minifigs'.
LEGO saves costs by not using the extended, tubular arms (Ms Marvel's) for Mr Fantastic.
LEGO saves costs by using bricks for Mr Fantastic's extended legs instead of Avatar long legs.
LEGO saves costs by giving the Invisible Girl a male torso print.
LEGO saves costs by using some dark red parts for Galactus instead of magenta.
LEGO saves costs by maximising the number of stickers/minimising prints for Galactus.
LEGO keeps the set price way down through these cost saving measures.... oh, wait.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh LEGO why does Ben Grimm looks like this?
Johnny and Sue needed some trans parts and Reed should’ve been done with the long rubbery arms.
Yes, the price would’ve been higher.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Not interested.
1. The figs lack arm and leg prints. They wear white boots in the movie.
2. Galact should be an oversized brick-built fig,
3. Thing should be a big-fig.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Like the set. Same critiques as others here regarding the Minifigs. I am wondering if there won’t be improvements on a second set (modular, inevitable Doomsday sets)…

Gravatar
By in United States,

Crazy it took them this long to make the Fantastic Four in minifig-form. Maybe it's cause I'm used to their looks in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game, but these minifigs feel kinda lazy. I have similar complaints to everyone else (Mr. Fantastic's brick-built legs, the shared torso pieces, Jyn Erso's head piece being used on yet ANOTHER Marvel character, the Thing looking kinda funny as a minifig, etc.).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Shouldn't Mr. Fantastic come with a helmet?? Thought we weren't supposed to see his face!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Somehow YES! but also NO!

I'd be tempted to take The Thing's hands and head and brick build him a body more like the comics

Gravatar
By in Japan,

@one_wag said:
"Oh Ben, they done you dirty!"

In the comics, the scale of The Thing has often been on par with Hulk, so why not just make him into a bigfig like the Hulk one from 76018 (but most definitely not from 4530 !!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely be picking this up for Galactus don't care that much for the figures though they do look good. I do wish they had boots for Johnny because I think he is the only one to wear boots. I think a big fig for Ben would be too big as he is only a little bigger in the film. If this were the comic version then a big fig would be needed. As it is they could have used a recolored version of the dark trooper armour piece to show his bulkiness would have made his hands look less strange.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I get Ben not being a bigfig. MCU Thing isn't that big. However, he does need a little more bulk than the others. The head is find, and I don't even mind the fists, but there should be something to give some mass to his torso.

Either a Chewbacca-style 'head and torso molded together' piece, or even just some shoulder 'armor'. Maybe a piece like 6413776 molded in orange, with an orange torso for a shirtless Thing, or mold that shoulder piece in blue with white printed highlights. Make it look like "That guy has huge shoulders", not "That guy has on football pads."

Gravatar
By in United States,

My unsolicited hot take:

-Hey look, it's Lord Business fighting Galactus... oh wait, that's Mr. Fantastic.
-I expected The Thing to be a bigfig. But maybe he's not that big in comparison. Still, those fighting gloves look odd/awkward.
-I'm not sure that she's going to be able to do much with just those cooking lids she's holding.
-On the other hand, with all those angular slopes and interesting coloration, I'd love to see a rebuild of Galactus into the exterior of a scifi spaceship.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I actually don't really mind the way they did Ben Grimm? Based on stills from the film, he's shorter than Reed (although much wider). I don't love the giant hands, but I feel like this mostly captures his look from the new film.

Gravatar
By in United Arab Emirates,

I like Reed's slippers when he streches - hilarious addition to his 'minifig', but really highlights the fact that everybody else is just wearing onesies rather than boots.

Thought perhaps it was a lighting/box rendering issues, but yes, he does seem to have a different colour collar to the others. Still exact same design though, they've just missed out the printing process for the other colours.

But yes, utter cop out in the design. Think they could have duel molded the legs to give them the accurate white boots.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is this a construction figure? Because the stickers are a major downgrade from the other ones. Those should not be present on something that is primarily meant to be played with as a figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think all the downsides of this set are a direct product of the Marvel IP tax - which based on set prices seems like it must be higher than the Disney tax and as high or higher than the Star Wars tax.

That said, I agree with the comments about the minifigures - very nice to have all four, but The Thing should have been upscaled in some way, and I also think it would have been nice to include a 2nd Human Torch made entirely of trans-red or trans-orange parts. That would've upped the set price by $10-$15 I suppose, but I am guessing the value for what you'd get would have been perceived a bit better by most potential buyers. I don't collect this theme, though, so perhaps I'm wrong.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd fall off if I was walking on stilts that long. That is what they are right? As they don't look like legs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Saw this on the shelves of my local Meijer 4 days ago. Thought it was weird it was out with no announcement.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like this set because it reminds me that these are Lego, and the idea is to make something out of Lego. If it looks too much like an action figure or statue, it loses the appeal and soul of what it is. No lego model will ever be a perfect representation of, but it also never should be.

He is not that big compared to the other heroes, so, no, a bigfig would not make sense."

MCU Thing is SHORTER than everyone else. It would have been more accurate to make everyone else Bigfigs. I get wanting a bigger Thing, but it wouldn't be accurate. People need to learn to be happy with the size they have and stop fronting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you look at the picture of the cast members on the side of the box, you'll see that Reed's collar is blue. They messed up a few things with Reed's figure, but not that printing detail.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Easy to pass.
I will wait a reissu with more decent figures.
Maybe it will take another 10 years.
No hurry, I will wait.
Zen mode on.

Wish granted! How about some footheld accessories?

@GrizBe:
No, FF was on Disney’s restricted list, in an attempt to get Fox to sell the rights back to them. They even made Marvel stop publishing the comics, but they couldn’t quite get away with that for the X-titles. They did, however, start vetoing any X-Men film merch once the MCU started making money.

@Mister_Jonny:
The benefit they got from going that route with The Incredibles is you got two different versions of Pixar’s Elastigirl (not to be confused with DC’s OG Elastigirl); one with stretchy arms, and one without. They could have done alternate versions of three of these minifigs.

@WemWem:
Are you kidding? Clearly the most exciting thing is this means I’ll be able to have the Iron Squirrel sitting on the roof of a building, sharing ice cream with a reformed Galactus.

@Classicsmiley:
So Reed is the Commander and the other three are the Explorers?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Very disappointed with the minfigs.
Lego got their noses all wrong!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Disappointing designs. As a playset for kids, it will do, but not for adult collectors. Since I doubt, there is a big market for 18+ Fanta4-Sets with better designs, I mourn over this lost opportunity for really nice mini- and big-fig designs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, there are some very grumpy people messaging, the fact that you get all members of the team in one set is great.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Lazy, not even a gender specific torso for Sue?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The figures are absolutely awful. Galactus actually looks good, but I’d rather make one of the ones of the offsite MOCs to make him more of an upscale minifigure. This is very disappointing for being the first thing we get of my favorite comic

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Hands down the best construction figure ever, It just looks so great!

I know that there have been some critics, but I personally don't have any problems with this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

FOOLISH CREATURES, TO COME BETWEEN GALACTUS AND HIS MEAL!
Super hyped for this set, only way it could be better is if it came with Silver Surfer.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@PurpleDave Thought it was the case when it came to the MCU, but I was right I was confusing the video games as the appeared in the Lego Marvel Super Heroes games which is why I was thinking we'd seen physical figures before.

Gravatar

Ooph, straight to the clearance bin.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I agree the F4 figures could've been better, sure ...

... but it's Galactus. That alone makes it one of the best sets of the year, for me, and one of the highlights in the Marvel line-up (a line-up which already seems pretty spectacular).

Same.
I've been ragging on the figs, but I'm excited to finally get a big figure Galactus.
That alone makes the set so worth it. I can mod these F.F. figures to my liking.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Galactus is a hit, despite being coated in stickers, big stickers. I know the minifigs aren't anything super special but getting all 4 in one set is something I'm surprised by with Lego's current practices

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Further thoughts: I get what they are trying to to with Ben's hands but maybe something like the new plaster cast (as in 60459 ) would have been better in orange for scale. Also I might get this just to make a Galactus in the style of 'Ant-Man' in 76051

No, you're not, but as seen with 76314, Lego seems to have stopped doing large figures that look like minifigures in sets where the large figure is meant to interact with standard minifigures.
