Speed Champions images
Posted by Huw,
Images of the Racers replacement theme Speed Champions sets emerged overnight in another video posted by just2good.
It seems they are all minifig-scale and feature a plethora of new parts -- windshields, mudguards, wheels, new curved plates and probably much more besides. They are also plastered in stickers.
Meiko has posted an article on Brickipedia comparing the models to the real vehicles which is well researched and a great read, so head on over there to find out more about the cars the models are based on.
I can't say I'm particularly excited by them but maybe you are...
(Note I've removed the controversial statement in the above text which is referred to in the comments).

I like the smooth shapes, but I shouldn't be surprised that I didn't get my wish of some 8-wide things. These would fit better into City layouts.
There appears to be some interesting new parts (windscreens, mudguards, wheel hubs), so I'd rather just bricklink those than wait the 6 months it will take for the sets to arrive in Blighty.
As I don't like stickers, the Porche will be the only one that still will look good without, imo. Using a skateboard as a spoiler is something I haven't seen yet.
Cones! Cones! Cones!
couldn't agree more. It is so annoying that he doesn't just link us the website.
I'm excited in the sense that they're definitely a different style of car, and non-stickered-versions would fit great into city lay-outs (as awesome cars). The only car I don't want is the fancier Ferrari, because the other three look fantastic.
I think these cars, and the whole theme looks great! I'm not a massive car fan, but these cars look very detailed, and lots of fun. But oh my, the amount of stickers!!
I love these sets! For the scale I think each vehicle has been captured rather nicely and I am not too bothered about stickers as long as they remain faithful to the car in reality (although printing is always preferred of course).
At least a few of them will be must haves for me.
Only liking a few of the cars. Yellow in particular, due to yellow snowboard as a spoiler. Hilarious ingenuity. Looking forward to 2015.
I completely agree with your opinion Huw, completely agree. It does seem odd where he is getting these pictures ...
I only like the yellow car, the other ones are ehhhhh. I was really hoping for some really cool super cars. I know it would be hard to pull it off, but i hoped LEGO could have.
And oh my goodness stickers....
Most of them look very proportionally off.
P1 is awful.
GT3's look the best along with the Fezza.......
I'm not amazed by the builds of the cars themselves, and I am hoping beyond hope that the minifigs do not have stickered torsos (like the old Ferrari theme). I'm mostly hoping this is a theme which will continue on for a while, and evolve into something pretty awesome (more car licenses, better designs, and so on).
They look nice for someone that's into that type of thing but I'm just glad this is one theme that I won't be going near.
These might be the best LEGO cars ever.
Maybe he makes the videos because that's what he likes to do? What's the big deal? Be happy these pictures were even found.
The reason that they are video's is that you get paid for views on YouTube, if you get enough views. So it is a way to make some money. Not much but something, compared to nothing on an image hosting site.
^^^ Don't forget the Speed Racer cars. Scale, proportions, everything made sense (except for the movie). But for Lego one-minifig-scaled-cars I think these look great.
@matu2004: These are most definitely the best Lego cars ever! (Not counting the larger scale models or the previous Ferrari them) And I call dibs on the Ferrari F150, the Porsche 918 Spyder, and the Ferrari F14 and Scuderia Racing Truck! I love these, and in sure hope that that truck is an 8- wide cab. We'll have to wait for the instructions.
As i said in the forums, despite being overstickered new-parts models, i think they look great! I'll definitely see if i can buy the set with the 911's.
I really like this theme! Especially the yellow car looks great. The only downside is that they used so many stickers.
Don't like them at all. Good for my finances. Maybe I get the Porsche set for my street in front of the modular buildings but not sure about it, depends on price and offers. (And a better quality picture to see if the logo is the real one, looks like it is but I want to be sure.)
Oh my... it's no secret that I am an absolute car nut (in fact, before LEGO became my passion, all my money went into diecast model cars, and even now my common username derives from a very famous supercar) and I do spend a large amount of my time trying to create faithful minifig-scale cars (for example, the McLaren F1 road car on my Flickr). So seeing these is basically my two loves combined. I just wish the headlights weren't stickers and that they seated 2 minifigs side by side like in real life. But I'll let them off for that.
EDIT: I just noticed the doors don't open on any of the cars either :-(
If these are a success, then personally I would love to see even more car licenses to diversify the assortment. Perhaps some Lambos, Aston Martins etc. But I really wish for LEGO to get the Bugatti license so I can see them do a set of my all time favourite car, the Veyron. Well, given the theme name "Speed Champions", it would make perfect sense to do a car that used to hold the record for fastest production car :-)
2015 is looking to be a really expensive year for me, my wanted list just keeps growing and growing... and my wallet isn't getting any bigger...
@Brthorsen - if just2good is profiting on YouTube (as ajresol suggests), then linking to the video featuring stolen images would be even more so in poor form. In fact, Brickset has a close relationship with LEGO's PR folks, so Huw generally is cautious towards leaks like this, as LEGO often asks to have information taken down if its posted early (though, in this case, the horse has pretty much left the barn, so to speak - there's no way to contain the spread of the leak now).
They look lovely, much better than the Racers, and very smooth. I could do without the stickers, however.
zOMG these are amazing!!! The scale is never going to look right because of the way minifigs are shaped, but these look just right for "LEGO-ized" cars.
And as a spacer, I am ALWAYS excited when new space parts become available, and new windscreens are definitely new space parts.
This is a most welcome new theme.
These are not illegally obtained in any way, nor stolen. They were obtained in a very similar way to this: http://brickset.com/article/12254/bionicle-2015-news
And, if I gave away anything, we would never have this opportunity again and I'd think the place that had them would be in trouble. Take this as you may.
And for all of those who are very supportive towards me, thank you so much! It means a lot. :)
@yuffie As I said, these are NOT illegally obtained. And, Brickset runs ads as well, so by your logic we should not support Brickset as they have these pictures in the database.
Very neatly designed sets!Though they are not detailed designs.Anyway Racers is alive again,I do like super cars.
If there's a problem here the video can be requested to be taken down by TLG. Standard youtube policy.
If it's still up after 24 hours, TLG doesn't care. Unless Huw has received direction from TLG, to remove the link out of his articles, then why is it still in the forum? It seems a little childish to someone who has only just recently joined the community. My two cents.
@just2good. I am happy to be corrected, thank you. I will edit the article.
However, if the source is likely to get 'into trouble' it would be better not to post them at all, or better still, tell them the images are being leaked so they can take steps to prevent it.
Yeah, I don't think LEGO has a problem with these, as they're official (non-preliminary) images. Maybe they came early, but if it was a direct problem, I would have got hit with a strike. Also, I mentioned in some of the videos that they could contact me directly and I'd remove it ASAP. I do not want to disrespect the LEGO Group in any way, but I am yet to get contacted or have a strike put on.
I understand @Huw, I will make sure they're aware of these. It may not be the easiest way to contact the place that had them, but I'll try my best.
I'm not a big fan of LEGO cars, of even cars in general, but these look really good in my opinion! Those curves!
Thanks for explaining yourself just2good :)
These cars are works of art; LEGO bricks simply can't do them justice. Whilst I see a whole bunch of new parts in these sets, they're still reminiscent of the original Star Wars sets; i.e. ugly pieces of rubbish that even a die-hard fan would struggle to love.
I'm only happy to see the new windscreens and the return of the CMF trophy, in silver, too, no less. Otherwise, I don't care about this theme, but the builds look very impressive. That truck looks great, though. I sorta like the truck. It looks very bulky and solid.
Some harsh criticism for someone who is taking these images to use in the database. If you have a problem with them then you should wait until lego gives you the pictures for the database.
I am getting the McLaren P1 no matter what.
Stickers all over the place... Nope, don't want them.
Any reason you are being bitchy to the person who is releasing new set photos? All you come across as Huw is rude and petty, like you are jealous he got them first.
Nice sets
Now I am glad I didn't buy that Mega Bloks set.
Cool cars for car fans. Not my bag, but I love those cute little orange cones!
Huw, are you sure that set 75899 has the right name, because I'm 100% sure it is the Laferrari
I think anyone questioning Huw needs to remember what website they are posting on. Bearing in mind Huw wants to give the best Lego news, WITHOUT upsetting the good relationship with Lego that he has built up over years, I can see it's only prudent to question where the pictures came from and question the legality of how they came to be obtained.
Still, what's the internet without a cause on a forum and badly misplaced moral indignation!
It's a welcome change to see F1 sets again in Lego in one form or another. However the F14-T looks a bit narrow and wide. It could just be that the photo doesn't give the car any depth perception unlike the photo of MP4-29 which looks more realistic compared to the other. It should be an easy modification to make with the right parts.
although I can't speak to the official set name, the "Ferrari F150" was the development name of the car, the name it uses now is the "Ferrari LaFerrari"
Woo hoo! LEGO Porsches!
Shut up and take my money, LEGO.
Probably will buy the Ferrari ones, too. These look like really cool sets.
I'm not jumping on any bandwagons nor do I have any specific criticisms about this news or the member just2food but I abhor videos on YouTube that are just stills of sets - really don't see the point myself. Do people post such vids just to achieve 'likes' or is there something else? There's some good reviews and info on sets on YouTube, but there's so many of these dire stills 'videos' to sift through to get to the good stuff.
To be fair it is easy to see why just2good publishes the images as he does since that earns more views and therefore more money. I agree it would be easier to just post the photos on Flickr or elsewhere, but as long as we get to see the sets early and build up a bit of excitement about them, I am happy!
Better not to look a gift horse in the mouth. If he says they have been acquired legitimately, I see no reason to disbelieve him, particularly since LEGO allows the video to stay up.
i cant wait for this stuff to come to america im gonna buy they all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
:D
Whew, I thought I was the only one annoyed by videos of pictures. I guess I can see why he does it that way, but eh... the internet has enough videos of things that should really be photos (or text!).
Anyway, regardless of the presentation, can't complain about the content!
Why does the Scuderia Truck come with a scooter?
@Rytupiop Because Racecar.
I'm not much of a car guy, but I kind of like these. Especially the first red one and the grey one. I like that 2x2 1/4 circle tile on the yellow one (hope its not a sticker).
Steve
These sets would fit into any City themed table, I like them.
The news videos I do are my news blog- but my platform is YouTube. I'm sorry for any incovenience this has had. I have been sending out photos to various sites like The Brick Fan, Groovebricks, and Brickipedia at the time of uploading, as I'm usually out and cannot post them deeplinked (the YouTube videos I do are done overnight and sent to private).
Next time I give a tip here, I'd like to attach the raw photos (you can upload them and stuff), but I don't know how to. What's the direct email for Brickset?
I'm so glad they're minifig scale! I'm adding a racetrack to my city, and these will fit in perfectly! Thank you 'just2good' for the pictures...as far as I'm concerned, all they do is stoke interest in something I may or may not have had an interest in, which is good for Lego in the long run. Not sure what everybody's problem is.
Interesting that there's no Lamborghini in this mix...McLaren, multiple Porsches and Ferraris...no Lamborghini. I'm curious why they left that out as they've made Lambo sets befor.
Really like these!
I love them! Very cool little cars. will by them all!
I thought the pit stop set looked familiar and then I remembered back to a MEGA blocks set i was given for some reason a while back. I did some photo hunting and found this: http://cdn.dealsdirect.net/m/products/68/19068/2/product1_19068.jpg?file=Mega+Bloks+ProBuilder+-+McLaren+F1+Pitstop
Unless It's just me it is an almost identical set to the new street champion one! odd coincidence...
Ninjago here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0errJcs3mCo
Not exactly what I had in mind, but these would be great parts packs :)
@Obiwonkydonky - how different would you expect the sets to look considering they are based on the same real-life source material? Aside from the general shape and inclusion of an F1 car, the two sets don't really look that similar to me.
These cars are REALLY COOL. I love all these custom elements, and they are certainly much more detailed than any Racer could ever hope to be. Two things, though... too many stickers, and do these actually have any action functions at all? Like a pull-back motor or ejector seat or something? Cause these seem the same size as all the function-equipped Racers sets.
BTW, can anyone tell me where just2good is finding these official-looking images?
Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren in one theme? Wow...
Now that they have the Porsche license, bring on the Creator Expert 911!
@PicnicBasketSam It's from a source that is not public, and I fear announcing it will not only put people in trouble, but prevent a situation like this from happening again. Plus, it took me around six hours to find these, so I don't think anyone will find anything new after this.
@just2good: You can refer to the contact link at the bottom of the site (http://brickset.com/contact) or simply email Huw at huw[at]brickset.com. :)
That Porshe is going into Darth Vader garage.
Same with me about that "F150". I'm pretty sure it's a LaFerrari.
McLaren P1 doesn't look to good.
Was hoping they would make these in a larger scale. Maybe they'll do it later like they did some larger ones in racers.
A little too many stickers.
I am kindof disappointed :(
i don't expect these mini-fig scale racers to be the exact likeness to the real cars but they are close enough with the nice curves and new parts. I have some qualms about the many stickers, so i won't use them. i'll get the Ferarri and Porches. No issues here. lol!
I also like the new Justice League mini-figs
But I really HATE the new Ninjago sets. They're not aesthetically pleasing.
@Rytupiop: I'm guessing it's for the team to get around the race tracks faster as they work and go about their business The areas around race tracks can be rather large with lots of space to park trucks, equipment, cars, etc. Actually, it would also be appropriate to include a bicycle. The drivers often ride the track on bikes days before a race to become acquainted with every detail of a track.
Personally, I'm drooling over all these sets and am super excited to get new F1 sets and a non-Ferrari F1 set to boot. I can't even recall the last non-Ferrari set Lego has done. I hope they do more race teams for future releases. I would really like to build up an entire race scene in my Lego city.
I'm trying to figure out if the race track map inside the Ferrari truck is an actual F1 track. It's definitely not Monza which would have been the most logical choice.
@sharky the map in the truck is very similar to Gran Torismo's "Midfield Raceway" but I don't recognize a real location similar to that map
I like these sets, they will will complement the CITY sets from last year a little bit. I have been waiting patiently for sets like these.
@sharky the track is the Ferrari test track at Fiorano
I hope they release a Nissan GT-R or a Toyota 88C-V
