2015 City images
Posted by Matthew,
Tonight's video from Just2Good shows us what we can expect from the January release of City sets. It is a known issue that there are several sets missing, and we can apparently expect a sequel video in due course.
We will aim to get up-to-date with adding the past few batches of 2015 images to the database over the next day or two. As before, you can see them right away in the video below.
Let us know what you think - I can't wait to get hold of a copy of the 60073 Service Truck :-)

Looks like we are going to be getting a lot of stuff we have already seen as well as some new cool stuff which, in my opinion, is a nice mix. Not everyone has been collecting LEGO sets as long as some of us have so it's nice to get a few repeats for the new collectors every once and a while.
molto belli, la stazione di polizia e il set di demolizione
Ooh, a female criminal AND a new alligator mold? It looks like, for the first time in a while, I'll be picking up some city sets.
The selection seems to be of two extremes. There's some very good new looking sets there such as demolition, snow plow and toilet transporter set, but then there's a lot of repetitive stuff there too, another dosage of forest police, yet another tow truck variant and more general police.
'Fire Starter Set'? Teaching kids to be pyromaniacs, are we? :P
In all seriousness, I may try to pick up a Snowplow, since I'm not really a City fan.
Being from western New York I'm happy to see a snow plow! Also - does anyone else think that 'Fire Starter Set' is a questionable name for a set? :-)
These starter sets are a great idea.
I kind of like the tow truck in 60081, but the car looks almost exactly like one of the cars from the City Garage set.
Laughing at how clever an idea Swamp Cops & Robbers is looking. Should be on TV. Swamp Cops. That toilet, and more porta potties, amuse me. Really like impressed by the new croc faces.
Great, I was just thinking that a new alligator mould would be nice. Those motorcycles are sweet.
Not bad, I'll pick up a few, mainly for the new figs, but whats up with the potty humor?? :P
I'm gonna make a construction site. :) :) :)
Snowplow and porta-potty are awesome!!!
Does the porta potty remind anyone else of a Tardis??
I do like the Demolition Site. And is that a new (slightly cleaned-up) logo?
The "Fire Starter Set": for the aspiring arsonist...
Is that our first female crook?
Also, why so many toilets in one lineup (2!!) ;)
I'm gonna wreck it!
Not usually a City fan but I might have to spring on the Snow Plow and the Servie Truck
The new crocodile is pretty cool, but as usual, most of the new police sets look the same as sets we already have, just with mild variations of colour.
And the when the tow truck popped up, I thought, another one? We just got one of those this year, and it was a lot better than this one.
Having said that ... I really love the racing-motorcycle transporter. I'll be buying that one. There does seem to be a high percentage of toilets, though, doesn't there?
I like those race bikes, but could of used smooth tires instead of dirt bike tires.
60073 Service Truck! Now THAT is an awesome set! I'm also liking 60069 Swamp Police Station. I hate LEGO vehicles that haven't been designed with working doors. That turns me off of otherwise good looking sets like 60081 Pickup Tow Truck and 60076 Demolition Site, though I love the idea behind the latter.
Anyone else think of 6654 Motorcycle Transport when they saw 60084 Racing Bike Transporter?
Does anyone else notice that the politically correct inclusion of women is becoming stupidly unrealistic? I've never seen female construction workers or firefighters in the real world. I have no problem with female minifigures in principle, but they're currently being placed in scenarios where they clearly don't belong. Put them in a shop or café, not a construction site.
@Huey1 actually, I was torn on what my favourite feature of the sets was: the profusion of toilets or the relative abundance of ladyfigs (although I do wonder why so many swamp-based robbers are female while their police opponents seem not to include many women).
It's a shame the construction sets look a little juniorised- some of the cabs look pretty closed up. Ah well; I expect I'll still buckle and buy some.
@Legozebra: No, there was one in one of the Police sets last year (60042), and has their own Youtube channel, search "Hobby Trixie" for videos with that minifigure.
The 'Tardis-Potty' ( @natro220) is a great idea. Some emergency sets are getting a bit juniorised but construction generally seems to successfully repeat variations on a theme- a couple of colours other than yellow would not go amiss on a con-site. Would be nice if the demolished building was some recognisable old retro set e.g post office or house.
@Huey1 well that's pretty offensive... I've seen plenty of female construction workers and fire fighters. Even if the profession is overrun by men, isn't that just an element from the past that is now changing? A regardless, I sure wouldn't say that they don't belong!
Yeah I see plenty of female construction workers, mostly during the summer though.
Admittedly I haven't seen many female firefighters.
My musings:
http://keefyd.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/new-lego-city-images-for-2015.html
In summary -
1) MORE POLICE - SERIOUSLY???
2) Welcome return to the construction genre, but is it me or are these sets looking a little too simplistic for my liking?
3) Some good variations on the Great Vehicles.
4) Still, WHY NO Buildings? There seems to be far too much traffic on the roads.......but not enough places for the workers to live/work! Or do we need to buy the Creator sets to make up for this??
5) Why is there no post/airport theme running? Surely these may be bigger sellers than swamp police??
I'm a girl and I love the demolition site! Brilliant! Also love the female mini figures in many of the sets in non "traditional" roles (even a burglar?!) As others have noted why call a set "fire starter set" - that's not a good idea Lego! Rename it - quick! Love the blue car in the pickup tow truck set, the motorcyclists are cool and the service truck portaloo is classic! Thanks for the humour :)
Gosh, @Huey1, genuinely shocked by such a perspective! Please, don't forget to add that we should also ‘realistically’ be restricted to representations in the kitchen and secretarial roles too! You may not have *personally* witnessed this demographic in your locality, and I must apologise for bursting your bubble, but we do most certainly exist in such scenarios in the real world. I’ll admit it was unusual, but my last dig was a 70/30 split, and we wore our hard hats and swung our mattocks merrily alongside those poor outnumbered lads.
This is *such* a non-issue and yet people flagging up ‘an increased unrealistic female presence’ makes it one… It really is quite bizarre! Personally I'm loving the mix of these city sets, Arctic felt a bit testosterone-heavy in the minifig department.
Normally I pass city by, but some of these have given me major puppy eyes... I think everyone is in love with 60073. Those alligators are beautiful and I can’t wait to get my paws on that Swamp Police Station. The police signs won’t be going up, those bars will be replaced with windows, and voila: roll up, roll up, come take a swamp tour at the ‘gator reserve (and get accidently carted away in our portaloo, oops.)
I guess another lady villain means 60042 sold well, I know I only picked it up for the Female Bandit… Oh, my 2015 Lego Budget is so blown.
Glad to see more female split in the sets. Might go for the Demolition Starter Set (Toilet seat).
Honestly I really want the snow plow and the service truck. They never did a snow removal line and I think that would get a lot of popularity :)
Working in a Motorway Depot and seeing gritters/snow plows every day I have wanted to see a Lego one for ages. The colour scheme is different to what I am used to and it could benefit from being a few studs longer, but that won't stop me getting it (sorry ALL of the sets!!)
The speed boat reminds me of a classic from the 90's - 6679: Dark Shark - that was without a doubt my favourite boat set. The black visor's were fantastic.
As predicted there are Gail's headgears reused, though not seeing Emmet's ones for unknown reason. Also, nice to see a progress of gender ratio. I especially like the new generic villainess face.
The Swamp Police Station is a good thought (neglecting the overrated police system), but I think it lacks some jungle and river pieces to highlight what the station looks like in the box art.
My question is why there is still a "racer" set classified as City set while TLC is reintroducing a licensed vehicle theme. Of course, that is a motorcycle set, but it seems like TLG is not planning on getting licenses of famous motorcycle brand. Perhaps every licensed motorcycle needs a new outer case mold and that doesn't benefit?
@Legozebra > Is that our first female crook?
Go check 60042 this year. Well the swamp crook's evil face print and no-sleeves clothes are both new.
@Huey1
This is something that the female project from LEGO Ideas want to see-- encouraging girls to do all kinds of jobs. Of course there aren't female labors like Gail all the time, but the gender ratio of this wave is good enough. Every profession/set has a lady there. If sexists really expect the gender ratio to be 50-50, that is how to be unrealistic.
Got to love the SP Police Station. The Demolition sets look great, too!
I saw the video literally nine minutes after it was posted. There's a good blend of 'seen-it' and 'brand-new.' Demolition Site, Swamp Police Station, and Snowplow Truck look great! Starter sets-- I don't know if these are better than the Great Vehicles for the same price, but they do seem more complete. I know my little brother will want the Demolition one. Helicopter Rescue looks WAY too much like the 2013 one, and is lacking the whole hideout and pickup truck that made it a good, if overpriced, playset. Service truck looks kind of bland; if you want the porta-potty, I suggest the Flying Flusher from the LEGO Movie. I do like the new racing bikes, though; WAY cooler looking than that great, misshapen hunk of plastic that was the Fire Motorcycle.
And I want three hundred of the new crocodile mold. (insert Eurobricks drooling emoticon here)
Yay for crook diversity! That new croc, on the other hand... Makes me wanna get the LEGO Movie-set with the two old ones, while they're still available.
I love motorcycle transport sets so that will be a must have for me.
@ DaveBey - That was one of the first sets I ever owned. A long time favourite! I guess it'll look funny compared to this new set but it is nice how they have changed them over the years.
Too bad we there isn't a dalmatian in the fire starter set. :(
Great snowplough - want. And demolition is a clever twist on LEGO's basic concept of building. Oh and @Huey1 , not all women wear makeup and have long eyelashes or long hair, so why not allow yourself to imagine half your minifigs are women, wherever you happen to put them in your LEGO world or whatever they're wearing. Maybe you'll surprise yourself...
Nice sets, but did LEGO really just call that set a 'fire starter' set?
Also I have seen Construction workers that are women, it is really not that mind blowing..
I agree with keefyd - not enough buildings on display.
Long time LEGO consumers will easily see the pattern here - City sets basically go through cycles that are redone every few years. The target audience are kids, which is the play-ability factor with all the vehicles.
Buildings, if and when included are typical City style building that fit into the play-ability factor (not 4-sided; open backs, etc).
For more serious buildings, we as TFOL and AFOL need to look towards Creator and Modular sets.
Is that a new curved-hinge on the snow plough? (on the orange plough itself at the front)
@Capnbootle: It looks like it. (Starts acting madly and dances about happily.) :-P
. . . and new motorbike fairings (in the 60084 Racing Bike Transporter). Nice.
All these police subthemes are getting ridiculous. Good point about 'Fire Starter Set'.
I'm surprised no one pointed out that those motorcycle molds (at least the outer shell) are brand spankin' new. It kind of looks like the frame is new, too, but I can't be certain.
If so, that would be a most welcome change. The current motorcycle setup was clearly engineered only for sidecars, and it just looks terrible. The minifigs don't sit in them well, they look all wonky, and there's practically zero room for customization. The old motorcycle molds were tons better, and they all looked identical!
It depends on the department. Most females in the fire departments around here are usually involved in EMS. I'd say a pretty good portion of the rescue squad are women. The police and sheriff are a mix of men and women.
The snow plow would have looked better if the plow was one single part, instead of several.
The pickup wrecker's wheels are way out of scale.
I think the Service Truck is a pretty good set.
video not available due to copyright....blah blah blah
